Potential and challenges of tannins as an alternative to in-feed antibiotics for farm animal production显示文摘Naturally occurring plant compounds including tannins, saponins and essential oils are extensively assessed as natural alternatives to in-feed antibiotics.Tannins are a group of polyphenolic compounds that are widely present in plant region and possess various biological activities including antimicrobial,anti-parasitic, anti-viral, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulation, etc. Therefore, tannins are the major research subject in developing natural alternative to in-feed antibiotics.Strong protein affinity is the well-recognized property of plant tannins, which has successfully been applied to ruminant nutrition to decrease protein degradation in the rumen, and thereby improve protein utilization and animal production efficiency.Incorporations of tannin-containing forage in ruminant diets to control animal pasture bloat, intestinal parasite and pathogenic bacteria load are another 3 important applications of tannins in ruminant animals.Tannins have traditionally been regarded as 'anti-nutritional factor' for monogastric animals and poultry, but recent researches have revealed some of them, when applied in appropriate manner, improved intestinal microbial ecosystem, enhanced gut health and hence increased productive performance. The applicability of plant tannins as an alternative to in-feed antibiotics depends on many factors that contribute to the great variability in their observed efficacies.Qianqian Huang Xiuli Liu Guoqi Zhao Tianming Hu Yuxi Wang 2018Animal Nutrition2018,,2:54
Study on detection of coastal water environment of China by ocean color remote sensing显示文摘Coastal water environment is essentially enhanced by ocean color which is basically decided by substances concentration in water such as chlorophyll, suspended material and yellow substance. It is very difficult, even not possible, to detect water color by expensive ship routing, because of its temporal and spatial variety of feature and scales in the very complicated dynamical system of coastal water. With the development of satellite technique in the last 20 a, space sensors can be applied to detect ocean color by measuring the spectra of water leaving radiance. It is proven that ocean color remote sensing is a powerful tool for understanding the process of oceanic biology and physics. Since the 1980s, great attention has been paid to the advanced remote sensing technique in China, especially to development of satellite programs for the coastal water environment. On 7 September 1988, China launched her first polar orbit satellite FY-1A for meteorological and oceanographic application (water color and temperature) and the second satellite FY-1B two years later. In May 1999, China launched her second generation environment satellite FY-1C with higher sensitivies, more channels and stable operation. The special ocean color satellite HY-1 is planned to be in the orbit in 2001, whose main purpose is to detect the coastal water environment of China seas. China is also developing a very advantageous sensor termed as Chinese moderate imaging spectra radiometer (CMODIS) with 91 channels, which will be a good candidate of the third generation satellite FY-3 in 2003. The technical system of ocean color remote sensing was developed by the Second Institute of Oceanography (SIO), State Oceanic Administration (SOA) in 1997. The system included data receiving, processing, distribution, calibration, validation and application units. The Hangzhou Station of SIO, SOA has the capability to receive FY-1 and AVHRR data since 1989. It was also a SeaWiFS scientific research station authorized by NASA,USA to free receive SeaWiFS data from 16 September 1997. In the recent years, the local algorithms of atmospheric correction and inversion of ocean color have been developed for FY-1C and SeaWiFS, to improve the accuracy of the measurement from satellites efficiently. The satellite data are being applied to monitor coastal water environment, such as the spatial distribution of chlorophyll, suspended material and yellow substance, red tide detection and coastal current study. The results show that the ocean color remote sensing has latent capacity in the detection of coastal water environment. In consideration of the update technique progress of ocean color remote sensing and its more important role in the detection of coastal water in the 2000s, some suggestions are set forth, which would be beneficial to the design of a cheaper but practical coastal water detection system for marine environment preservation.Pan Delu 1,2 , Mao Tianming 1, Li Shujing 1,Huang Haiqing 11 .LaboratoryofOceanDynamicProcessesandSatelliteOceanographyofStateOceanicAdministration ,Hangzhou310 0 12 ,China 2 .LaboratoryofSubmarineGeosciencesofStateOceanicAdministration ,Hangzhou 3 2001Acta Oceanologica Sinica2001,20,1:16

Internet of Things to network smart devices for ecosystem monitoring显示文摘Smart, real-time, low-cost, and distributed ecosystem monitoring is essential for understanding and managing rapidly changing ecosystems. However, new techniques in the big data era have rarely been introduced into operational ecosystem monitoring, particularly for fragile ecosystems in remote areas. We introduce the Internet of Things(IoT) techniques to establish a prototype ecosystem monitoring system by developing innovative smart devices and using IoT technologies for ecosystem monitoring in isolated environments. The developed smart devices include four categories: large-scale and nonintrusive instruments to measure evapotranspiration and soil moisture, in situ observing systems for CO2 and d13 C associated with soil respiration, portable and distributed devices for monitoring vegetation variables, and Bi-CMOS cameras and pressure trigger sensors for terrestrial vertebrate monitoring. These new devices outperform conventional devices and are connected to each other via wireless communication networks. The breakthroughs in the ecosystem monitoring IoT include new data loggers and longdistance wireless sensor network technology that supports the rapid transmission of data from devices to wireless networks. The applicability of this ecosystem monitoring IoT is verified in three fragile ecosystems, including a karst rocky desertification area, the National Park for Amur Tigers, and the oasis-desert ecotone in China. By integrating these devices and technologies with an ecosystem monitoring information system, a seamless data acquisition, transmission, processing, and application IoT is created. The establishment of this ecosystem monitoring IoT will serve as a new paradigm for ecosystem monitoring and therefore provide a platform for ecosystem management and decision making in the era of big data.Xin Li Ning Zhao Rui Jin Shaomin Liu Xiaomin Sun Xuefa Wen Dongxiu Wu Yan Zhou Jianwen Guo Shiping Chen Ziwei Xu Mingguo Ma Tianming Wang Yonghua Qu Xinwei Wang Fangming Wu Yuke Zhou 2019Science Bulletin2019,64,17:10
Groundwater circulation relative to water quality and vegetation in an arid transitional zone linking oasis, desert and river显示文摘In groundwater-dependent ecosystems, groundwater circulation controls the overall water quality and ecosystem dynamics. Groundwater and vegetation across a 30-km groundwater transect linking oasis, desert and river in an extremely arid area were investigated with a series of soil profiles drilled into the unsaturated zone to understand groundwater circulation and its control on groundwater quality and surface vegetation in the extremely arid Lower Tarim River, NW China. Measurements have included water-table depth, water chemistry and water isotopes (2H, 18O, 3H) for 15 water samples, soil moisture and chloride content for 11 soil profiles, and vegetation investigation. Results show that the groundwater in desert zone is characterized by slow recharge rate (pre-modern water), great water-table depth (6.17-9.43 m) and high salinity (15.32-26.50 g/L), while that in oasis (uncultivated land) and riparian zone is characterized by relatively fast recharge rate (modern water), small groundwater-table depth (3.56-8.36 m) and low salinity (1.25-1.95 g/L). Stable isotopes show that secondary evaporation takes place during irrigation in oasis. The vegetation characteristics (coverage, richness, evenness and number of plants) are closely related to soil moisture and water-table depth. Groundwater recharge from irrigation in oasis and from river in riparian zone sustains a better ecosystem than that in the desert area, where lateral and vertical groundwater recharge is limited. The more evapotranspirative enrichment may occur in the vegetated and water-rich riparian zone as compared to desert. This study also demonstrates the effectiveness of environmental tracers in studying ecohydrological processes in arid regions.HUANG TianMing PANG ZhongHe CHEN YaNing KONG YanLong 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,25:10
Bioinspired mineralized collagen scaffolds for bone tissue engineering显示文摘Successful regeneration of large segmental bone defects remains a major challenge in clinical orthopedics, thus it is of important significance to fabricate a suitable alternative material to stimulate bone regeneration.Due to their excellent biocompatibility, sufficient mechanical strength, and similar structure and composition of natural bone, the mineralized collagen scaffolds(MCSs)have been increasingly used as bone substitutes via tissue engineering approaches.Herein,we thoroughly summarize the state of the art of MCSs as tissue-engineered scaffolds for acceleration of bone repair, including their fabrication methods, critical factors for osteogenesis regulation, current opportunities and challenges in the future.First, the current fabrication methods for MCSs,mainly including direct mineral composite,in-situ mineralization and 3D printing techniques, have been proposed to improve their biomimetic physical structures in this review.Meanwhile, three aspects of physical(mechanics and morphology),biological(cells and growth factors)and chemical(composition and cross-linking)cues are described as the critical factors for regulating the osteogenic feature of MCSs.Finally, the opportunities and challenges associated with MCSs as bone tissue-engineered scaffolds are also discussed to point out the future directions for building the next generation of MCSs that should be endowed with satisfactorily mimetic structures and appropriately biological characters for bone regeneration.Zhengwei Li Tianming Du Changshun Ruan Xufeng Niu 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,5:9
A Survey of MRI-Based Brain Tumor Segmentation Methods显示文摘Brain tumor segmentation aims to separate the different tumor tissues such as active cells, necrotic core, and edema from normal brain tissues of White Matter(WM), Gray Matter(GM), and Cerebrospinal Fluid(CSF). MRIbased brain tumor segmentation studies are attracting more and more attention in recent years due to non-invasive imaging and good soft tissue contrast of Magnetic Resonance Imaging(MRI) images. With the development of almost two decades, the innovative approaches applying computer-aided techniques for segmenting brain tumor are becoming more and more mature and coming closer to routine clinical applications. The purpose of this paper is to provide a comprehensive overview for MRI-based brain tumor segmentation methods. Firstly, a brief introduction to brain tumors and imaging modalities of brain tumors is given. Then, the preprocessing operations and the state of the art methods of MRI-based brain tumor segmentation are introduced. Moreover, the evaluation and validation of the results of MRI-based brain tumor segmentation are discussed. Finally, an objective assessment is presented and future developments and trends are addressed for MRI-based brain tumor segmentation methods.Jin Liu Min Li Jianxin Wang Fangxiang Wu Tianming Liu Yi Pan 2014Tsinghua Science and Technology2014,19,6:9
The synthesis of 6-(tert-butyl)-8-fluoro-2,3-dimethylquinoline carbonate derivatives and their antifungal activity against Pyricularia oryzae显示文摘A series of novel 6-(/er/-butyl)-8-fluoro-2,3- dimethylquinoline carbonate derivatives were designed and synthesized. Bioassay results showed that some of them exhibited good activity against Pyricularia oryzae (P. oryzae). It was found that the compound 5q (benzyl (6-(tert-butyl)-8-fluoro-2,3-dimethylquinolin-4-yl) carbonate) possessed good activity against P. oryzae whatever protective activity (10 mg·L^-1) or curative activity (25 mg·L^-1), which was better than that of control tebufloquin. In addition, the frontier molecular orbit results revealed that the compound held higher activity against P. oryzae when the total energy was low and the ClogP was high, which may provide useful information for further design novel fungicides.Long Cheng Ruirui Zhang Hongke Wu Xinghai Liu Tianming Xu 2019Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering2019,13,2:8
High adsorption of Cd(Ⅱ)by modification of synthetic zeolites Y,A and mordenite with thiourea显示文摘Zeolites Y,A and mordenite(ZY,ZA and ZM)were obtained from diatomite in a template-free system, and the products were modified by thiourea(TU).Characterization studies results indicated that the TU molecules were loaded onto the exterior surfaces of the synthetic zeolites as well as the channels.Elemental analysis and energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer proved that the TU molecules loaded on to ZA were more than ZY and ZM.Removal of Cd(Ⅱ)was investigated, and itwas found that themodified zeolites have higher removal capacity, modified ZA is especially noticeable. In the adsorption experiments, the effects of various parameters such as sorbent content, contact time, concentration of cadmium solution,pH,selectivity and regeneration were discussed. At the best removal efficiency by modified zeolites, the maximum adsorption capacity is 94.3 mg·g^−1,103.2 mg·g^−1 and 89.7 mg·g^−1 at 25℃,respectively.The sorbents show good efficiency for the removal of Cd(Ⅱ)in the presence of different multivalent cations and have good regeneration effect. For the modified samples, removal experiments take place via ion exchange and complexation processes.Shaoqing Zhang Tianming Lv Yang Mu Jiqi Zheng Changgong Meng 2020Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2020,28,12:5
A water-evaporation-induced self-charging hybrid power unit for application in the Internet of Things显示文摘A self-charging hybrid power unit has been developed by integrating a water-evaporation-induced nano- generator with a flexible nano-patterned supercapacitor. The nanogenerator can harvest environmental thermal energy and mechanical energy through the water evaporation process, and the supercapacitor can be charged simultaneously. The former offers stable electrical power as output, whereas the Ppy- based supercapacitor shows a capacitance of 12.497 m F/cm^2 with 96.42% retention after 4,000 cycles. After filling the power unit with water as the fuel, it can be fully charged in about 20 min. The power unit can be flexibly integrated with electronic devices such as sensor nodes and wireless transmitters employ- ing the Internet of Things. This new approach can offer new possibilities in continuous future operation of randomly distributed electronic devices incorporated in the Internet of Things.Haoxuan He Tianming Zhao Hongye Guan Tianyan Zhong Hui Zeng Lili Xing Yan Zhang Xinyu Xue 2019Science Bulletin2019,64,19:5
Molecular genetic basis for the rhino mouse from Chinese KM subcolony显示文摘Both the rhino mouse and hairless mouse resulted from hairless gene mutation, but they show different phenotypes of skin physiology. The rhino mouse has more similar histological characters to human papular alopecia. Therefore rhino mouse is a good experimental animal model for human papular alopecia. This study reports a hairless mouse named rhino KIZ, arose from KM colony in Kunming Institue of Zoology, by systematic studies on morphology, skin histopathology, gene sequence, pedigree and protein domain analysis. The results demonstrate that a C-to-T transition in exon 11 of hr gene (The mutant gene has been applied for a Chinese patent (patent No. 03135280)) results in the rhino KIZ. The rhino KIZ with clear genetic mechanism will be a useful animal model.TIANMing XIONGYuliang WANGWanyu ZHANGYaping 2004Chinese Science Bulletin2004,49,2:5

Wearable Battery-Free Perspiration Analyzing Sites Based on Sweat Flowing on ZnO Nanoarrays显示文摘We fabricated wearable perspiration analyzing sites for actively monitoring physiological status during exercises without any batteries or other power supply. The device mainly consists of ZnO nanowire(NW)arrays and flexible polydimethylsiloxane substrate.Sweat on the skin can flow into the flow channels of the device through capillary action and flow along the channels to ZnO NWs.The sweat flowing on the NWs(with lactate oxidase modification)can output a DC electrical signal, and the outputting voltage is dependent on the lactate concentration in the sweat as the biosensing signal.ZnO NWs generate electric double layer(EDL)in sweat, which causes a potential difference between the upper and lower ends(hydrovoltaic effect). The product of the enzymatic reaction can adjust the EDL and influence the output. This device can be integrated with wireless transmitter and may have potential application in constructing sports big data. This work promotes the development of next generation of biosensors and expands the scope of self-powered physiological monitoring system.Wanglinhan Zhang Hongye Guan Tianyan Zhong Tianming Zhao Lili Xing Xinyu Xue 2020Nano-Micro Letters2020,12,8:5
A Self-Powered Breath Analyzer Based on PANI/PVDF Piezo-Gas-Sensing Arrays for Potential Diagnostics Application显示文摘The increasing morbidity of internal diseases poses serious threats to human health and quality of life.Exhaled breath analysis is a noninvasive and convenient diagnostic method to improve the cure rate of patients. In this study, a self-powered breath analyzer based on polyaniline/polyvinylidene fluoride(PANI/PVDF) piezogas-sensing arrays has been developed for potential detection of several internal diseases. The device works by converting exhaled breath energy into piezoelectric gassensing signals without any external power sources. The five sensing units in the device have different sensitivities to various gas markers with concentrations ranging from 0 to 600 ppm. The working principle can be attributed to the coupling of the in-pipe gas-flow-induced piezoelectric effect of PVDF and gas-sensing properties of PANI electrodes. In addition, the device demonstrates its use as an ethanol analyzer to roughly mimic fatty liver diagnosis. This new approach can be applied to fabricating new exhaled breath analyzers and promoting the development of self-powered systems.Yongming Fu Haoxuan He Tianming Zhao Yitong Dai Wuxiao Han Jie Ma Lili Xing Yan Zhang Xinyu Xue 2018Nano-Micro Letters2018,10,4:4
Estimating abundance and density of Amur tigers along the Sino- Russian border显示文摘As an apex predator the Amur tiger(Panthera tigris altaica)could play a pivotal role in maintaining the integrity of forest ecosystems in Northeast Asia.Due to habitat loss and harvest over the past century, tigers rapidly declined in China and are now restricted to the Russian Far East and bordering habitat in nearby China. To facilitate restoration of the tiger in its historical range, reliable estimates of population size are essential to assess effectiveness of conservation interventions. Here we used camera trap data collected in Hunchun National Nature Reserve from April to June 2013 and 2014 to estimate tiger density and abundance using both maximum likelihood and Bayesian spatially explicit capture-recapture(SECR)methods.A minimum of 8 individuals were detected in both sample periods and the documentation of marking behavior and reproduction suggests the presence of a resident population.Using Bayesian SECR modeling within the 11400 km2 state space, density estimates were 0.33 and 0.40 individuals/100 km^(2) in 2013 and 2014,respectively,corresponding to an estimated abundance of 38 and 45 animals for this transboundary Sino-Russian population. In a maximum likelihood framework,we estimated densities of 0.30 and 0.24 individuals/100 km^(2) corresponding to abundances of 34 and 27,in 2013 and 2014,respectively.These density estimates are comparable to other published estimates for resident Amur tiger populations in the Russian Far East. This study reveals promising signs of tiger recovery in Northeast China, and demonstrates the importance of connectivity between the Russian and Chinese populations for recovering tigers in Northeast China.Wenhong XIAO Limin FENG Pu MOU Dale GMIQUELLE Mark HEBBLEWHITE Joshua FGOLDBERG Hugh SROBINSON Xiaodan ZHAO Bo ZHOU Tianming WANG Jianping GE 2016Integrative Zoology2016,11,4:4
Preliminary study on the orbit cross-calibration of CMODIS by SeaWiFS显示文摘China launched its third spaceship SZ 3 in March, 2002 on which the main remote sensor is the Chinese moderate imaging spectra radiometer (CMODIS). In this paper the properties of CMODIS are firstly introduced briefly. Then, the theory and algorithm of cross calibration for CMODIS ocean color channels by the sea viewing wide field of view sensor (SeaWiFS) data are discussed in detail. The total radiance (TOA) of four quasi synchronized crossing ocean areas simulated by SeaWiFS and measured by CMODIS are compared and the calibration coefficients are derived from the relationship between them. Finally, the in situ water leaving radiance data are used to validate the calibration results. The results show that the cross calibration method could provide reasonable precision for ocean color measurement.PAN Delu*, HE Xianqiang and MAO Tianming(Key Laboratory of Ocean Dynamic Processes and Satellite Oceanography, SOA, Hangzhou 310012, China) 2003Progress in Natural Science:Materials International2003,13,10:4
Synthesis, characterization and cell imaging properties of rare earth compounds based on hydroxamate ligand显示文摘Six binuclear rare earth compounds were synthesized through the ligand of 4-Bromo-N-hydroxy-Nmethyl-benzamide(sH_2 bha). Compounds 1-3 are isomorphous, and compound 1 is crystallized in the monoclinic system with the P2_1/c space group. Compounds 4 and 5 are isomorphous, and compound 4 is crystallized in the triclinic system with the P-1 space group. Compound 6 is crystallized in the triclinic system with the P-1 space group. The compounds were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis(TGA) and IR spectroscopy. The fluorescence spectrum in the visible area shows characteristic peaks of Eu, Tb, and Dy compounds. The efficiency of Eu compound on the viability of PC3 cells was assessed using CCK8 assays. From the CCK8 results, ionic concentration may have a great effect on PC3 cells' proliferation. Eu compound shows red fluorescence in the cytoplasm of PC3 cell. As for Eu compound, it might have potential application in cell imaging technology.Linyan Yang Yanping Zhang Liwei Hu Yunhe Zong Ruili Zhao Tianming Jin Wen Gu 2018Journal of Rare Earths2018,36,4:3
Possible negative influences of increasing content of cerium on activity and hydrothermal stability of Rh/ceria-zirconia three-way catalysts显示文摘The activity and hydrothermal stability of the Rh/Ce_(x)Zr_(1-x)O_(2)(x=0,0.05,0.3,0.5) model three-way catalysts for gasoline vehicle emissions control were investigated in this work.Among the Rh/Ce_(x)Zr_(1-x)O_(2) samples with different Ce/Zr ratios, the Rh/ZrO_(2) sample exhibits a significantly better activity and hydrothermal stability than the rest of the samples. The impacts of having more Ce components in the Rh/Ce_(x)Zr_(1-x)O_(2) catalysts are associated with the strong Rh-O-Ce interaction that tends to over stabilize the rhodium species.A significant amount of such rhodium atoms can be found in the bulk of the support oxides after a hydrothermal aging at 1050℃ with 10% H_(2)O in air for 12 h.Differently, the sintering of rhodium on the surface of Rh/ZrO_(2) catalysts is the main reason for the catalyst deactivation during the hydrothermal aging. These findings provide an example where high dispersion of supported metal induced by strong metal-support interactions does not necessarily lead to high catalytic activity.Tianming Huang Meiqing Shen Guanghao Cheng Yunhao Wang Jianqiang Wang Wei Li Se HOh Gongshin Qi Ming Yang Jun Wang 2021Journal of Rare Earths2021,39,7:3
