1Increased hepcidin expression in colorectal carcinogenesis显示文摘AIM:To investigate whether the iron stores regulator hepcidin is implicated in colon cancer-associated anae- mia and whether it might have a role in colorectal car- cinogenesis. METHODS: Mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS and SELDI-TOF MS) was employed to measure hepcidin in urine collected from 56 patients with colorectal cancer. Quantitative Real Time RT-PCR was utilised to determine hepcidin mRNA expression in colorectal cancer tissue. Hepcidin cellular localisation was determined using im- munohistochemistry. RESULTS: We demonstrate that whilst urinary hepcidin expression was not correlated with anaemia it was posi- tively associated with increasing T-stage of colorectal cancer (P < 0.05). Furthermore, we report that hepcidin mRNA is expressed in 34% of colorectal cancer tissue specimens and was correlated with ferroportin repres- sion. This was supported by hepcidin immunoreactivity in colorectal cancer tissue. CONCLUSION: We demonstrate that systemic hepcidin expression is unlikely to be the cause of the systemic anaemia associated with colorectal cancer. 2Structural, morphological, Raman, optical, magnetic, and antibacterial characteristics of CeO2 nanostructures显示文摘In this study, CeO_2 nanostructures were synthesized by a soft chemical method. A hydrothermal treatment was observed to lead to an interesting morphological transformation of the nanoparticles into homogeneous microspheres composed of nanosheets with an average thickness of 40 nm. Structural analysis revealed the formation of a single-phase cubic fluorite structure of CeO_2 for both samples. A Raman spectroscopic study confirmed the XRD results and furthermore indicated the presence of a large number of oxygen vacancies in the nanosheets. These oxygen vacancies led to room-temperature ferromagnetism(RTFM) of the CeO_2 nanosheets with enhanced magnetic characteristics. Amazingly, the nanosheets exhibited substantially greater antibacterial activity than the nanoparticles. 3Progress in 3D‑MXene Electrodes for Lithium/Sodium/Potassium/Magnesium/Zinc/Aluminum‑Ion Batteries显示文摘MXenes have attracted increasing attention because of their rich surface functional groups,high electrical conductivity,and outstanding dispersibility in many solvents,and have demonstrated competitive efficiency in energy storage and conversion applications.However,the restacking nature of MXene nanosheets like other two-dimensional(2D)materials through van der Waals forces results in sluggish ionic kinetics,restricted number of active sites,and ultimate deterioration of MXene mate-rial/device performance.The strategy of raising 2D MXenes into three-dimensional(3D)structures has been considered an efficient way for reducing restacking,providing greater porosity,higher surface area,and shorter distances for mass transport of ions,surpassing standard one-dimensional(1D)and 2D structures.In multivalent ion batteries,the positive multivalent ions combine with two or more electrons at the same time,so their capacities are two or three times that of lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)under the same conditions,e.g.,a magnesium ion battery has a high theoretical specific capacity of 2205 mAh g^(−1)and a high volumetric capacity of 3833 mAh cm^(−3).In this review,we summarize the most recent strategies for fabricating 3D MXene architectures,such as assembly,template,3D printing,electrospinning,aerogel,and gas foaming methods.Special consideration has been given to the applications of highly porous 3D MXenes in energy storage devices beyond LIBs,such as sodium ion batteries(SIBs),potassium ion batteries(KIBs),magnesium ion batteries(MIBs),zinc ion batteries(ZIBs),and aluminum ion batteries(AIBs).Finally,the authors provide a summary of the future opportunities and challenges for the construction of 3D MXenes and MXene-based electrodes for applications beyond LIBs.Tariq Bashir Shaowen Zhou Shiqi Yang Sara Adeeba Ismail Tariq Ali Hao Wang Jianqing Zhao Lijun Gao 2023Electrochemical Energy Reviews2023,6,1:1
4Facile Synthesis as well as Structural, Raman, Dielectric and Antibacterial Characteristics of Cu Doped ZnO Nanoparticles显示文摘Here, undoped and Cu doped ZnO nanoparticles(NPs) have been prepared by chemical co-precipitation technique. X-ray diffraction(XRD) results reveal that Cu ions are successfully doped into ZnO matrix without altering its wurtzite phase. The single wurtzite phase of ZnO is retained even for 10 wt% Cu doped ZnO sample. It is observed from the electron microscopy results that higher level of Cu doping varies the morphology of ZnO NPs from spherical to flat NPs. Moreover, the particle size is found to increase with the increase in Cu doping level. Raman spectroscopy results further confirm that Cu dopant has not altered the wurtzite structure of ZnO. Impedance spectroscopy results reveal that the dielectric constant and dielectric loss have increasing trend with Cu doping. 8MXene terminating groups=O,–F or–OH,–F or=O,–OH,–F,or=O,–OH,–Cl?显示文摘MXenes are a novel family of two-dimensional(2D)materials that are fast gaining popularity due to their versatile characteristics.The surfaces of these materials are often functionalized by negatively charged terminal groups,such as=O,OH,and F during their synthesis,and it has been hypothesized that regulating the surface terminators enables to control the material characteristics.However,there is still a large gap between computational and experimental investigations regarding comprehending the surface functional groups.Surfaces with mixed terminations are consistently synthesized in experiments,although pure terminated surfaces are predicted by computational research.Here we summarized the nature of chemical bonding in transition metal carbide materials(MXenes)by1H and19F nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR),Raman,X-ray absorption near edge structure(XANES),extended X-ray absorption fine structure(EXAFS),ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy(UPS),X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)/scanning transmission electron microscopy(STEM),and thermogravimetric analysis-mass spectrometry(TGA-MS)characterizations.Previous literature reveals that=O,–OH,–F,and–Cl are typical MXene surface terminators.However,recent comparative investigations on the valence band intensity distribution in MXenes reveal that the–OH cannot be considered an intrinsic termination species in MXenes.The surface terminals(=O,–OH,–F,and–Cl)of several MXenes,particularly V2CTxand Ti3C2Tx,will be identified and quantified here.We have also discussed different etching approaches for the synthesis of MXene,the dependence of MXene conductivity on MXene terminating groups,and the emission of various gaseous products that evolved during its chemical transformations.This paper provides significance,especially in the field of energy conversion and storage materials,where the intercalation process is crucial.Tariq Bashir Sara Adeeba Ismail Jiaqi Wang Wenhao Zhu Jianqing Zhao Lijun Gao 2023Journal of Energy Chemistry2023,,1:1

10Clinical profile,diagnostic yield,and procedural outcomes of single balloon enteroscopy:A tertiary care hospital experience显示文摘BACKGROUND Single balloon enteroscopy(SBE)allows ease of access for small bowel visualization and has multiple diagnostic and therapeutic indications.It provides the advantage of performing various therapeutic interventions alongside the diagnostic procedure.SBE has also been considered a relatively safe procedure with no major complications.AIM To investigate the indications,safety,and clinical yield of SBE,and determine its effect on disease outcome.METHODS A retrospective,descriptive study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital in Karachi,Pakistan.Medical records of 56 adult patients(≥18 years)who underwent SBE between July 2013 and December 2021 were reviewed and data were collected using a structured proforma.A descriptive analysis of the variables was performed using Statistical Package of Social Sciences Version 19.Results are reported as the mean±SD for quantitative variables and numbers and percentages for qualitative variables.Missing data are reported as unknown.RESULTS A total of 56 patients who underwent 61 SBE procedures were included.The mean age was 50.93±16.16 years,with 53.6%of them being males.Hypertension(39.3%)and diabetes mellitus(25.0%)were the most common pre-existing comorbidities.Obscure gastrointestinal bleed(39.3%)was the most common indication for enteroscopy,followed by chronic diarrhea(19.7%)and unexplained anemia(16.4%).The majority of procedures were performed in the endoscopy suite(90.2%)under monitored anaesthesia care(93.4%).Most procedures were diagnostic(91.8%)and completed without complications(95.1%).The depth of examination ranged from 95 cm to 500 cm with a mean of 282.05±90.04 cm.The most common findings were inflammation and ulcerations(29.5%),followed by masses(19.7%)and vascular malformations(14.8%).As a result of the findings,a new diagnosis was made in 47.5%of the cases and a previous one was ruled out in 24.6%of them;65.6%of the cases had a change in management.CONCLUSION SBE is a suitable modality for investigating diseases in the small bowel.It is shown to be technically efficient and reasonably safe and is associated with high diagnostic and therapeutic yield.Maha Inam Masood M Karim Umar Tariq Faisal Wasim Ismail 2022World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy2022,14,9:0

12Prevalence of tuberculous peritonitis in the North of Iraq and sociodemographic comparison with pulmonary tuberculosis显示文摘Objective:Tuberculosis continues to be an important health problem in the world.Despite the widespread impression that abdominal tuberculosis is rare today,the disease is still endemic in developing world and is reemerging in the West.The aim is to review our local experience with tuberculous peritonitis.Methods:Between January 2000 and December 2006,the case records of histologically documented tuberculous peritonitis (TBP) diagnosed and treated at the tuberculosis coordinating center in Erbil city,Iraq were reviewed.Comparisons were made with pulmonary tuberculosis patients regarding socio-demographic,clinical and laboratory findings.Results:Forty one cases of TBP were diagnosed during the study period.Their age range was 26-72 years(46±17),with a male:female ratio of 1.5;1.The median duration of symptoms before diagnosis was 6 weeks(range;10 days to 18 months.).Eleven patients(26.8%) had comorbid conditions and 6 patients (14.6%) had a history of positive contact with Tuberculosis(TB) case.Presenting symptoms were abdominal distension(70%),abdominal pain(65%),fever(68%),anorexia(65%) and weight loss(44%).Four patients had pulmonary symptoms;cough and/ dyspnoea(n= 2 ) and cough(n= 2).Chest X-ray changes consistent with pulmonary tuberulosis(PTB) were seen in 25%.Tuberculous peritonitis was diagnosed by laparoscopy (n=29) and laparotomy(n= 12).Adverse effects of TB drugs occurred in nearly 40%,consisting of hepatitis(n= 2),nausea/vomiting(n= 11),rash(n = 2) and encephalopathy(n = 1).Hemoglobin and serum albumin levels were significantly lower in tuberculous peritonitis(TBP)TBP patients(P =0.027 and 0. 003,respectively).There was a significantly greater occurrence of adverse effects(P<0.001) in TBP patients. No significant differences between TBP and PTB were demonstrated in regard to age and sex distribution, non-specific symptoms(fever,weight loss,and anorexia) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate.All were treated with standard regimens and responded to treatment.Conclusion:Tuberculous peritonitis is prevalent in our population.Therefore.TBP should be considered in patients presenting with abdominal symptoms and nonspecific constitutional symptoms,particularly in young patients.Laparoscopy and laparotomy with tissue biopsy was the specific diagnostic procedure.Abdulqadir Maghded Zangana Tariq S.Al-Hadithi M.Sc Sherzad Ali Ismail 2009Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2009,2,2:0
