4Selective partial salivary glands sparing during intensity-modulated radiation therapy for nasopharyngeal carcinoma显示文摘Objective This study evaluated the dosimetric consequences of selective partial salivary gland sparing during intensity-modulated radiotherapy(IMRT) for patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC).Methods Ten patients with NPC were enrolled in the study.Two IMRT plans were produced for each patient:conventional(control) and partial salivary glands-sparing(treatment),with dose constraints to the entire parotid glands or partial salivary glands(including the parotid and submandibular glands,delineated with the adjacent distance of at least 0.5 cm between the glands and PTV,the planning target volume) in planning,respectively.Dosimetric parameters were compared between the two plans,including the V_(110%),V_(100%),V_(95%)(the volume covered by more than 110%,100%,or 95% of the prescribed dose),Dmin(the minimum dose) of PTV,homogeneity index(HI),conformity index(CI),and the mean dose and percentage of the volume receiving 30 Gy or more(V_(30)) for the parotid glands and submandibular glands.Results Treatment plans had significantly lower mean doses and V_(30) to both the entire parotid glands and partial parotid glands than those in control plans.The mean doses to the partial submandibular glands were also significantly lower in treatment plans than in control plans.The PTV coverage was comparable between the two plans,as indicated by V_(100%),V_(95%),Dmin,CI,and HI.The doses to critical structures,including brainstem and spinal cord,were slightly but not significantly higher in treatment plans than in control plans.Conclusion A selective partial salivary gland-sparing approach reduces the doses to parotid and submandibular glands during IMRT,which may decrease the risk of post-radiation xerostomia while not compromising target dose coverage in patients with NPC.Guangjin Yuan Qianwen Li Shixian Chen Chengwei Zheng Jiang Tang Jiang Hu Ximing Xu 2017Oncology and Translational Medicine2017,3,2:1
5Thermal Property Measurements of a Large Prismatic Lithium-ion Battery for Electric Vehicles显示文摘Because of the high cost of measuring the specific heat capacity and the difficulty in measuring the thermal conductivity of prismatic lithium-ion batteries,two devices with a sandwiched core of the sample-electric heating film-sample were designed and developed to measure the thermal properties of the batteries based on Fourier's thermal equation.Similar to electrical circuit modeling,two equivalent thermal circuits were constructed to model the heat loss of the self-made devices,one thermal-resistance steady circuit for the purpose of measuring the thermal conductivity,the other thermal-resistance-capacitance dynamic circuit for the purpose of measuring the specific heat capacity.Using the analytic method and recursive least squares,the lumped model parameters of these two thermal circuits were extracted to estimate the heat loss and correct the measured values of the self-made devices.Compared to the standard values of the reference samples of the glass and steel plates,the measured values were corrected to improve the measurement accuracies beyond 95% through steady thermal-circuit modeling.Compared to the measured value of the specific heat capacity of the battery sample at 50% state of charge using the calorimeter,the measured value using the self-made device was corrected in order to elevate the measurement accuracy by about 90% through dynamic thermal-circuit modeling.As verified through the experiments,it was reliable,convenient,and low cost for the proposed methodology to measure the thermal properties of prismatic lithium-ion batteries.CHENG Ximing TANG Yu WANG Zhenpo 2021Journal of Thermal Science2021,30,2:1

8The bacterial effector SidN/Lpg1083 promotes cell death by targeting Lamin-B2显示文摘To facilitate survival,replication,and dissemination,the intracellular pathogen Legionella pneumophila relies on its unique type IVB secretion system(T4SS)to deliver over 330 effectors to hijack host cell pathways in a spatiotemporal manner.The effectors and their host targets are largely unexplored due to their low sequence identity to the known proteins and functional redundancy.The T4SS effector SidN(Lpg1083)is secreted into host cells during the late infection period.However,to the best of our knowledge,the molecular characterization of SidN has not been studied.Herein,we identified SidN as a nuclear envelope-localized effector.Its structure adopts a novel fold,and the N-terminal domain is crucial for its specific subcellular localization.Furthermore,we found that SidN is transported by eukaryotic karyopherin Importin-13 into the nucleus,where it attaches to the N-terminal region of Lamin-B2 to interfere with the integrity of the nuclear envelope,causing nuclear membrane disruption and eventually cell death.Our work provides new insights into the structure and function of an L.pneumophila effector protein,and suggests a potential strategy utilized by the pathogen to promote host cell death and then escape from the host for secondary infection.Jiajia Gao Wenwen Xu Feng Tang Minrui Xu Qin Zhou Xingyuan Yang Nannan Zhang Jinming Ma Qi Yang Xiaofang Chen Ximing Qin Honghua Ge 2023Journal of Molecular Cell Biology2023,15,5:0
