1Mineralogical and geochemical features of sulfide chimneys from the 49°39′E hydrothermal field on the Southwest Indian Ridge and their geological inferences显示文摘During January–May in 2007,the Chinese research cruise DY115-19 discovered an active hydrothermal field at 49°39′E/37°47′S on the ultraslow spreading Southwest Indian Ridge (SWIR).This was also the first active hydrothermal field found along an ultraslow-spreading ridge.We analyzed mineralogical,textural and geochemical compositions of the sulfide chimneys obtained from the 49°39′E field.Chimney samples show a concentric mineral zone around the fluid channel.The mineral assemblages of the interiors consist mainly of chalcopyrite,with pyrite and sphalerite as minor constitunets.In the intermediate portion,pyrite becomes the dominant mineral,with chalcopyrite and sphalerite as minor constitunets.For the outer wall,the majority of minerals are pyrite and sphalerite,with few chalcopyrite.Towards the outer margin of the chimney wall,the mineral grains become small and irregular in shape gradually,while minerals within interstices are abundant.These features are similar to those chimney edifices found on the East Pacific Rise and Mid-Atlantic Ridge.The average contents of Cu,Fe and Zn in our chimney samples were 2.83 wt%,45.6 wt% and 3.28 wt%,respectively.The average Au and Ag contents were up to 2.0 ppm and 70.2 ppm respectively,higher than the massive sulfides from most hydrothermal fields along mid-ocean ridge.The rare earth elements geochemistry of the sulfide chimneys show a pattern distinctive from the sulfides recovered from typical hydrothermal fields along sedimentstarved mid-ocean ridge,with the enrichment of light rare earth elements but the weak,mostly negative,Eu anomaly.This is attributed to the distinct mineralization environment or fluid compositions in this area.TAO ChunHui LI HuaiMing HUANG Wei HAN XiQiu WU GuangHai SU Xin ZHOU Ning LIN Jian HE YongHua ZHOU JianPing 2011Chinese Science Bulletin2011,56,26:34
2Origin and nature of cold seep in northeastern Dongsha area,South China Sea:Evidence from chimney-like seep carbonates显示文摘The occurrence of seep carbonates is one of the characteristic features for cold seep sites at continental margins.The carbonates documented the venting history of methane-rich fluid.Compared to the chemoherm carbonates and carbonate pavements which formed on the sediment-water interface,chimney-like seep carbonates precipitated around fluid conduits below the sediment-water interface therefore better recording information of the past fluid flow and composition.Here the chimney-like seep carbonate samples from the northeastern Dongsha area of the South China Sea were studied to understand the origin and nature of the venting fluids and their potential relationship with gas hydrate deposits underneath the seafloor.Based on the occurrence,morphology,petrology,mineralogy and C-and O-isotope compositions,combined with present and past bottom water temperatures and the timing of methane release events,the oxygen isotopic fractionation between calcite and water were used to estimate the equilibriumδ18O values of the precipitating fluids.Theδ13C values ranging from 56.33‰to 42.70‰V-PDB and thus clearly show that the studied chimneys were mainly derived from biogenic methane oxidation.The calculated equilibriumδ18O values of the precipitating fluids ranged from 1.9‰0.3‰to 0.6‰0.3‰V-SMOW,with an average of 1.4‰0.3‰V-SMOW which is heavier than those of seawater even at the last glacial maximum.It is considered that the formation of chimney-like carbonates was closely related to methane hydrate dissociation in the area.The methane hydrates contributed as much as45.7%of water to the venting fluids.It is suggested that the climate and environmental changes(e.g.sea-level lowering,down-cutting canyons and mass wasting)are the major mechanisms maybe responsible for the destabilization of methane hydrates in the study area.The extensive occurrence of seep carbonates indicates that a large amount of the methane released from methane hydrate dissociation has been effectively captured and sequestered by microbial anaerobic oxidation of methane(AOM)before it escapes into the water column.HAN XiQiu YANG KeHong HUANG YongYang 2013Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,30:12
3Precipitation of Calcite Veins in Serpentinized Harzburgite at Tianxiu Hydrothermal Field on Carlsberg Ridge(3.67°N),Northwest Indian Ocean:Implications for Fluid Circulation显示文摘Serpentinization and calcite precipitation of mantle peridotites exhumed along detachment faults at the slow-to ultraslow-spreading centers can provide important clues to the hydrothermal alteration processes.The Tianxiu hydrothermal field is a new-found active and ultramafichosted hydrothermal vent site along the Carlsberg Ridge,Northwest Indian Ocean.Two types of calcite veins are recognized in serpentinized harzburgite samples collected from the seafloor at the water depth of 3 500 m(3.67°N/63.83°E) and 400 m north of Tianxiu hydrothermal field.Calcite veins Ⅰ occur in the fractures that cut through mesh texture in the highly serpentinized harzburgite,while calcite veins Ⅱ precipitate within the mesh texture in the relatively weaker serpentinized harzburgite.Both veins show similar δ13CPDB(+0.54‰ and +0.58‰) but different δ18OPDB(-16.67‰ and +4.46‰) values,suggesting that they were derived from the same carbon source but precipitated at different temperatures.Taking the deep seawater temperature of 2℃as the precipitation temperature of the calcite veins I,the equilibrium δ18OV-SMOW of calcite-precipitating fluid was calculated to be 1.78‰,which is close to the average δ18OV-SMOW value(1.74‰) of vent fluid samples from the ultramafic-hosted hydrothermal systems worldwide.The formation temperature of calcite veins Ⅱ is inferred to be approximately 134℃,based on the calculated δ18OV-SMOW above.The temperature differences of calcite precipitation probably resulted from the fluid cooling conductively and mixing with seawater along the presumed fractures during slow upflow.The low-temperature calcite postdates the mesh texture,while the high-temperature calcite may precipitate under relatively low water/rock ratios,alkaline and reduced conditions among the mesh texture,which is revealed by the geochemical models.Therefore,it is suggested that they both have been influenced by hydrothermal fluids and the sampling site is near the discharge zone of hydrothermal circulation.Yang Chen Xiqiu Han Yejian Wang Jianggu Lu 2020Journal of Earth Science2020,31,1:5
4Turbidite Events Recorded in Deep-sea Core IR-GC1 off Western Sumatra: Evidence from Grain-size Distribution显示文摘Sediment core IR-GC1,from the abyssal basin of the Indian Ocean off Sumatra,may provide important information on depositional events related to earthquakes and tsunamis.In this study,based on a combination of grain-size analysis with lithological studies and oxygen isotope stratigraphy,seven deep-sea turbidite layers were identified,corresponding to seven turbidity events that occurred at 128-130,105-107,98-100,86-87,50-53,37-41 and 20-29 ka.The sediments of the turbidite deposits are characterized by coarse grain sizes,poor sorting,wide kurtosis,bimodal frequency distributions and clear depositional variations.Particle size grading is also an important signature of deep-sea turbidite deposits and can be used as an indicator to identify turbidite layers.Possible triggering mechanisms for the turbidite events include tsunamis,earthquakes,volcanic eruptions and sea-level changes.QIU Zhongyan HAN Xiqiu WANG Yejian 2017Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2017,91,4:2
5Tephra records from abyssal sediments off western Sumatra in recent 135 ka: evidence from Core IR-GC1显示文摘Three volcanic ash layers were identified in a deep-sea Core IR-GC1 from the north-eastern Indian Ocean, adjacent to western Indonesian arc. They were dominated by glass shards with minor mineral crystals, such as plagioclase, biotite, and hornblende. According to the morphology and major element compositions of the representative glass shards, combined with the δ18O-based age, it is suggested that ash Layer A is correlated to the youngest Toba tuff(YTT), Layer B is supposed to be associated with a new eruption of Toba caldera in an age of 98 to 100 ka. 6NANOIMPRINT LITHOGRAPHY TECHNOLOGY WITH AUTOMATIC ALIGNMENT显示文摘Nanoimprint lithography (NIL) is recognized as one of the most promising candidates for the next generation lithography (NGL) to obtain sub-100 nm patterns because of its simplicity, high-throughput and low-cost. While substantial effort has been expending on NIL for producing smaller and smaller feature sizes, considerably less effort has been devoted to the equally important issue—alignment between template and substrate. A homemade prototype nanoimprint lithography tool with a high precision automatic alignment system based on Moiré signals is presented. Coarse and fine pitch gratings are adopted to produce Moiré signals to control macro and micro actuators and enable the substrate to move towards the desired position automatically. Linear motors with 300 mm travel range and 1 μm step resolution are used as macro actuators, and piezoelectric translators with 50 μm travel range and 1 nm step resolution are used as micro actuators. In addition, the prototype provides one translation (z displacement) and two tilting motion(α and β ) to automatically bring uniform intact contact between the template and substrate surfaces by using a flexure stage. As a result, 10 μm coarse alignment accuracy and 20 nm fine alignment accuracy can be achieved. 8Source and nature of ore-forming fluids of the Edmond hydrothermal field,Central Indian Ridge:evidence from He-Ar isotope composition and fluid inclusion study显示文摘To understand the source and nature of the ore-forming fluids of the Edmond hydrothermal field on the Central Indian Ridge, we studied the He-Ar isotope composition and fluid inclusions of the hydrothermal precipitates.Our results show that the sulfide samples contain noble gases He, Ne, Kr, and Xe with their abundances in between those of air-saturated water(ASW) and mid-ocean ridge basalt(MORB). The ~3He/~4He ratio varies from1.3 to 8.7 R_a(n=10, average: 5.1 R_a), whereas the ^(40)Ar/^(36) Ar ratio is from 285.3 to 314.7(n=10, average: 294.8). These results suggest that the He was derived from a mixture of MORB with variable amounts of seawater, but the Ar in the ore-forming fluids trapped in the sulfides is predominantly derived from seawater. The fluid inclusions of barite have a wide range of homogenization temperatures and salinities varying from 163°C to 260°C and 2.6 wt%to 8.5 wt% Na Cl equiv., respectively. 10Bouveret's syndrome: a rare cause of gastric outlet obstruction显示文摘To the editor:Bouveret's syndrome is a very uncommon form of gastric outlet obstruction caused by a large gallstone traveling through a cholecystoduodenal fistula into the duodenum.It was first described by Beaussier in 1770.Leon Bouveret,a French physician,for the first time published two cases with the symptoms of upper abdominal pain,fever,and vomiting in elderly patients in 1896.1 It is responsible for less than 1% of gallstone ileus.2 Only 300 cases had been reported in worldwide literature by 2008.3 A 94-year-old male patient presented to our hospital with a 4-day history of nausea,vomiting,and abdominal pain.He had sought prior medical help for the symptoms of this episode at another hospital but refused operation after diagnosis.Physical examination showed no mild epigastric tenderness or palpable masses.Yu Kui Yang Jianfeng Zhen Jinzhou Zhou Xiqiu 2014Chinese Medical Journal2014,,19:1

14Fractional crystallization processes of magma beneath the Carlsberg Ridge(57°–65°E)显示文摘Fractional crystallization of basaltic magma at variable depths influences strongly the geochemical compositions of mid-ocean ridge basalts(MORBs),especially at slow-spreading mid-ocean ridges.The Carlsberg Ridge is a typical slow-spreading ridge located in the northwestern Indian Ocean.In this study,we conducted petrological,geochemical and modelling studies of MORBs collected along the Carlsberg Ridge from 57°-65°E to understand the fractional crystallization processes of magma and the controls on variations in MORB geochemistry.Our results show that the mantle sources beneath the Carlsberg Ridge are heterogeneous even on the local scale of a segment;such heterogeneity may be ubiquitous beneath the Carlsberg Ridge.Mantle heterogeneity may be caused by the enriched components resulting in the'DUPAL'anomaly,whereas the effect of pyroxenite on mantle heterogeneity is negligible.The parental melts experienced crystallization of olivine,plagioclase and clinopyroxene prior to eruption,which played a significant role in the major and trace element variations in MORBs from the Carlsberg Ridge.The liquid lines of descent(LLDs),deduced from the forward modelling of three parental magma compositions using the Petrolog3 program at pressures between 1 atm and 10 kbar,demonstrate that clinopyroxene joined the olivine and plagioclase cotectic.The over-enrichment in highly incompatible elements relative to LLDs may be caused by the processes of replenishment-tapping-crystallization in magma chambers.The calculated crystallization pressures suggest that parental magmas beneath the Carlsberg Ridge experienced moderateto high-pressure crystallization and that crystallization beneath the slow-spreading Carlsberg Ridge may start at upper mantle depths.ZONG Tong HAN Xiqiu LIU Jiqiang WANG Yejian QIU Zhongyan YU Xing 2020Journal of Oceanology and Limnology2020,38,1:1
15Distribution of large-scale detachment faults on mid-ocean ridges in relation to spreading rates显示文摘Large-scale detachment faults on mid-ocean ridges(MORs)provide a window into the deeper earth.They have megamullion on their corrugated surfaces,with exposed lower crustal and upper mantle rocks,relatively high residual Bouguer gravity anomaly and P-wave velocity,and are commonly associated with oceanic core complex.According to 30 detachment faults identified on MORs,we found that their distances to the axis mostly range from 5 to 50 km,half-spreading rates range from 6.8 to 17 mm/a,and activity time ranges from recent to 3 Ma.Most of the detachment faults are developed on the slow spreading Mid-Atlantic Ridge(MAR)and ultra-slow spreading Southwest Indian Ridge(SWIR),with the dominant half-spreading rates of7–13 mm/a,especially 10–13 mm/a.Furthermore,they mostly occur at the inside corner of one segment end and result in an asymmetric seafloor spreading.The detachment faults on MORs are mainly controlled by the tectonism and influenced by the magmatism.Long-lived detachment faults tend to be formed where the ridge magma supply is at a moderate level,although the tectonism is a first-order controlling factor.At the slow spreading ridges,detachment faults tend to occur where local magma supply is relatively low,whilst at the ultra-slow spreading ridges,they normally occur where local magma supply is relatively high.These faults are accompanied by hydrothermal activities,with their relationships being useful in the study of hydrothermal polymetallic sulfides and their origin.YU Zhiteng LI Jiabiao LIANG Yuyang HAN Xiqiu ZHANG Jie ZHU Lei 2013Acta Oceanologica Sinica2013,32,12:1
16Evaluating a satellite-based sea surface temperature by shipboard survey in the Northwest Indian Ocean显示文摘A summer-time shipboard meteorological survey is described in the Northwest Indian Ocean. Shipboard observations are used to evaluate a satellite-based sea surface temperature(SST), and then find the main factors that are highly correlated with errors. Two satellite data, the first is remote sensing product of a microwave, which is a Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission Microwave Imager(TMI), and the second is merged data from the microwave and infrared satellite as well as drifter observations, which is Operational Sea Surface Temperature and Sea Ice Analysis(OSTIA). The results reveal that the daily mean SST of merged data has much lower bias and root mean square error as compared with that from microwave products. Therefore the results support the necessary of the merging infrared and drifter SST with a microwave satellite for improving the quality of the SST. Furthermore, the correlation coefficient between an SST error and meteorological parameters, which include a wind speed, an air temperature, a relative humidity, an air pressure, and a visibility. The results show that the wind speed has the largest correlation coefficient with the TMI SST error. However, the air temperature is the most important factor to the OSTIA SST error. 17Lipid biomarker composition in surface sediments from the Carlsberg Ridge near the Tianxiu Hydrothermal Field显示文摘Hydrothermal venting has a profound effect on the chemical and biological properties of local and distal seawater and sediments. In this study, lipid biomarkers were analyzed to examine the potential influence of hydrothermal activity on the fate of organic matter(OM) in surface sediments around Tianxiu Hydrothermal Field in the Carlsberg Ridge(CR), Northwest Indian Ocean. By comparing the biomarker distributions of the samples with that of other typical hydrothermal sediments in the mid ocean ridge, it is shown that the location of the samples is not affected by the hydrothermal activity. The relatively low abundances of terrestrial n-alkyl lipids and riverine1,15-C_(32) diol suggested a minor contribution of terrigenous OM to the study area. The bacteria contributed predominantly to sedimentary marine OM;however, other marine source organisms, e.g., eukaryotes(i.e.,phytoplankton and fungi) could not be completely neglected. The marine-originated biomarkers showed significantly variable distributions between the two sediments, suggesting different dynamic physical and biogeochemical processes controlling the fate of marine OM. 18Prevalence and Severity of HBV-Associated Acute-on-Chronic Liver Failure Due to Irregular Medication of Nucleos(t)ide Analogs显示文摘Hepatitis B virus(HBV)represents the commonest etiologic agent of acute-on-chronic liver failure(ACLF)in most Asian countries.Nucleos(t)ide analogs(NAs)are effective in the treatment of chronic HBV infections,but may also exacerbate the disease and stimulate its development into HBV-associated ACLF if not used appropriately.The current study aimed to assess the prevalence and severity of HBV-associated ACLF as a result from irregular medication of NAs(IMNA).A total of 1134 individuals with HBV-associated ACLF in nine hospitals in Heilongjiang Province were enrolled in this study between 2005 and 2015.Among these,777 chronic hepatitis B(CHB)and 357 HBV-associated liver cirrhosis cases were classified based on various predisposing factors,including IMNA,HBV reactivation(HBVR),infections,treatment drugs,alcohol use and others(hepatitis C virus,hepatitis E virus,gastrointestinal bleeding and unknown reasons).The percentage and improvement rate were examined.Among individuals with HBV-associated ACLF and CHB,IMNA was found in 9.01%,HBVR in 46.20%,infections in 9.52%,treatment drugs in 14.67%,alcohol in 11.71%,and others in 24.58%as predisposing factors.Improvement rates in cases with IMNA,HBVR,infections,treatment drugs,alcohol and others were 41.43%,58.50%,58.11%,56.14%,53.85%,and 65.97%,respectively.Multivariable analysis showed that IMNA,others,infections,hepatic encephalopathy and hepatorenal syndrome were associated with prognosis.Only IMNA independently predicted HBV-associated ACLF prognosis.Overall,our study demonstrated that the percentage of IMNAinduced HBV-associated ACLF was 12.61%,and worse disease conditions resulted from IMNA compared with other factors.Thus,the suitability of treatment with NAs should be thoroughly evaluated.Ying Zheng Shu Chen Yanxin Huang Lisheng Jiang Yongguo Li Yinghua Lan Shuchen Li Yuqin Xu Xiaodong Li Hongwei Zhao Yanbo Wang Ying Shen Chao Wei Honglin Zhou Rongshan Fan Xiqiu Zeng Mingxia Jiang Shupeng Song Mingyan Xu 2021Infectious Microbes & Diseases2021,3,4:0
