| 1 | Black carbon aerosols and their radiative properties in the Pearl River Delta region显示文摘The climatic and environmental effects of atmospheric aerosols are a hot topic in global science community, and radiative properties of the aerosols are one of the important parameters in assessing climatic change. Here we studied the black carbon concentration and absorption coefficient measured with aethalometers, scattering coefficient measured with nephelometers, and single scattering albedo derived at an atmospheric composition watch station in Guangzhou from 2004 to 2007. Our main results are as follows. The data of black carbon concentration and absorption coefficients measured with instruments cannot be directly used until they are measured in parallel with internationally accepted instruments for comparison, calibration, and reduction. After evaluation of the data, the result shows that the monthly mean of BC concentration varies 3.1―14.8 μg·m-3 and the concentration decreases by about 1 μg·m-3 in average over the four years; It is higher in the dry season with a multi-year mean of 8.9 μg/m3 and lower in the rainy season with a multi-year mean of 8.0 μg·m-3; The extreme maximum of monthly mean concentration occurred in December 2004 and extreme minimum in July 2007, and a 4-year mean is 8.4 μg·m-3. It is also shown that monthly mean scattering coefficient derived varies 129 -565 Mm-1, monthly mean absorption coefficient 32-139 Mm-1, and monthly mean single scattering albedo 0.71-0.91, with annual mean values of 0.80, 0.82, 0.79 and 0.84 for 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007, respectively. Three instruments were used to take simultaneous measurements of BC in PM10, PM2.5, and PM1 and the results showed that PM2.5 took up about 90% of PM10 and PM1 accounted for about 68% of PM2.5, and BC aerosols are mainly present in fine particulates. The variability of BC concentrations is quite consistent between the Nancun station (141 m above sea level) and the Panyu station (13 m above sea level), which are 8 km apart from each other. | 5 | Early filiform needle acupuncture for poststroke depression: a meta-analysis of 17 randomized controlled clinical trials显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of filiform needle acupuncture for poststroke depression, and to compare acupuncture with the therapeutic efficacy of antidepressant drugs. DATA RETRIEVAL: We retrieved data from the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure(1979–2012), Wanfang(1980–2012), VIP(1989–2012), Chinese Biomedical Literature(1975–2012), PubMed(1966–2012), Ovid Lww(–2012), and Cochrane Library(–2012) Database using the internet. SELECTION CRITERIA: Randomized controlled trials on filiform needle acupuncture versus antidepressant drugs for treatment of poststroke depression were included. Moreover, the included articles scored at least 4 points on the Jadad scale. Exclusion criteria: other acupuncture therapies as treatment group, not stroke-induced depression patients, score < 4 points, non-randomized controlled trials, or animal trials. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: These were the Hamilton Depression Scale scores, clinical effective rate, Self-Rating Depression Scale scores, Side Effect Rating Scale scores, and incidence of adverse reaction and events. RESULTS: A total of 17 randomized controlled clinical trials were included. Meta-analysis results displayed that after 4 weeks of treatment, clinical effective rate was better in patients treated with filiform needle acupuncture than those treated with simple antidepressant drugs [relative risk = 1.11, 95% confidence interval(CI): 1.03–1.21, P = 0.01]. At 6 weeks, clinical effective rate was similar between filiform needle acupuncture and antidepressant drug groups. At 2 weeks after filiform needle acupuncture, Hamilton Depression Scale(17 items) scores were lower than in the antidepressant drug group(mean difference =-2.34, 95%CI:-3.46 to-1.22, P < 0.000,1). At 4 weeks, Hamilton Depression Scale(24 items) scores were similar between filiform needle acupuncture and antidepressant drug groups. Self-Rating Depression Scale scores were lower in filiform needle acupuncture group than in the antidepressant drug group. Side Effect Rating Scale was used in only two articles, and no meta-analysis was conducted. Safety evaluation of the 17 articles showed that gastrointestinal tract reactions such as nausea and vomiting were very common in the antidepressant drug group. Incidence of adverse reaction and events was very low in the filiform needle acupuncture group. CONCLUSION: Early filiform needle acupuncture for poststroke depression can perfectly control depression. Filiform needle acupuncture is safe and reliable. | 6 | Wide-steering-angle high-resolution optical phased array显示文摘Optical phased array(OPA)technology is considered a promising solution for solid-state beam steering to supersede the traditional mechanical beam steering.As a key component of the LIDAR system for long-range detection,OPAs featuring a wide steering angle and high resolution without beam aliasing are highly desired.However,a wide steering range requires a waveguide pitch less than half of the wavelength,which is easily subjected to cross talk.Besides,high resolution requires a large aperture,and it is normally achieved by a high count number of waveguides,which complicates the control system.To solve the mentioned issues,we design two high-performance 128-channel OPAs fabricated on a multilayered SiN-on-SOI platform.Attributed to the nonuniform antenna pitch,only 128 waveguides are used to achieve a 4 mm wide aperture.Besides,by virtue of innovative dual-level silicon nitride(Si_(3)N_(4))waveguide grating antennas,the fishbone antenna OPA achieves a 100°×19.4°field of view(FOV)with divergence of 0.021°×0.029°,and the chain antenna OPA realizes a 140°×19.23°FOV with divergence of 0.021°×0.1°.To our best knowledge,140°is the widest lateral steering range in two-dimensional OPA,and 0.029°is the smallest longitudinal divergence.Finally,we embed the OPA into a frequency-modulated continuous-wave system to achieve 100 m distance measurement.The reflected signal from 100 m distance is well detected with 26 dBm input transmitter power,which proves that OPA serves as a promising candidate for transceiving optical signal in a LIDAR system. | YINGZHI LI BAISONG CHEN QUANXIN NA QIJIE XIE MIN TAO LANXUAN ZHANG ZIHAO ZHI YUXUAN LI XIAOBIN LIU XIANSHU LUO GUOQIANG LO FENGLI GAO XUEYAN LI JUNFENG SONG | 2021 | Photonics Research2021,9,12: | 7 |
| 7 | Vibration and sound radiation of a rotating train wheel subject to a vertical harmonic wheel–rail force显示文摘The rapid development of high-speed railway networks requires advanced methods for analysing vibration and sound radiation characteristics of a fast rotating train wheel subject to a vertical harmonic wheel–rail force.In order to consider the rotation of the wheel and at the same time increase the computational efficiency, a procedure is adapted in this paper taking advantage of the axial symmetry of the wheel. In this procedure, a recently developed 2.5D finite element method, which can consider wheel rotation but only requires a 2D mesh over a cross section containing the wheel axis, is used to calculate the vibration response of the wheel. Then, the vibration response of the wheel is taken as acoustic boundary condition and the 2.5D acoustic boundary element method,which only requires a 1D mesh over the boundary of the above cross section, is utilised to calculate the sound radiation of the wheel. These 2.5D methods and relevant programs are validated by comparing results from this procedure with those from conventional 3D analyses using commercial software. The comparison also demonstrates that these 2.5D methods have a much higher computational efficiency. Using the 2.5D methods, we study the wheel rotation speed influences on the factors including the vertical receptance of the wheel at wheel–rail contact point,sound pressure level at a pre-defined standard measurement point, radiated sound power level, directivity of the radiation, and contribution of each part of the wheel. It can be concluded that the wheel rotation speed splits most peaks of the vertical receptance at the wheel–rail contact point,sound pressure levels at the field, and the sound power level of the wheel into two peaks. The directivity and power contribution of the wheel are also significantly changed by the wheel rotation speed. | 8 | Arsenic trioxide alleviates acute graft-versus-host disease by modulating macrophage polarization显示文摘This study aimed to explore macrophage polarization in acute graft-versus-host disease after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and investigated if arsenic trioxide(ATO) could correct this imbalance. In the colon of GVHD mice, we found that the number of F4/80+iNOS+ cells as well as the expression intensity of TNF-α and IL-1β was greater in the GVHD group than in the BM group, whereas the number of F4/80+CD206+ cells and the expression intensity of IL-10 and TGF-β was greater in the BM group than in the GVHD group. We investigated the effect of ATO on GVHD mice, and found that ATO treatment clearly improved the survival of the mice and reduced the severity of GVHD. In addition, ATO reduced the number of F4/80+iNOS+ cells, and increased the number of F4/80+CD206+ cells in the colon of GVHD mice. Furthermore, ATO sharply decreased CD86 and CD80 expression, and increased CD163 and CD206 expression in macrophages induced from aGVHD patients. Therefore,ATO can modulate the M1 and M2 phenotype in GVHD mice or in macrophages from aGVHD patients. | 11 | Overexpressed BRH1, a RING finger gene, alters rosette leaf shape in Arabidopsis thaliana显示文摘Leaves are the most important plant parts for photosynthesis and respiration. Many genes are involved in determining leaf shape;however, little is known about the effects of brassinosteroid (BR) signaling-pathway genes on the development of leaf shape. Here, the brassinosteroid-responsive RING-H2 (BRH1) gene, which is suppressed by 24-epi-brassinolide treatment, was isolated from Arabidopsis thaliana. The amino acid sequence contained a highly conserved RING finger domain. In a phylogenetic analysis,BRH1 clustered closely with GLYMA11G02470.1. The leaves of brh1 mutant plants were not much different to those of the wild-type, while transgenic plants with high BRH1 expression levels had rounder rosette leaves. Mutants of the BR synthesis pathway also had a similar round leaf phenotype, and greater BRH1 expression levels. Moreover, the related marker genes KNAT1,AtHB13 and ROT4, which are known to control leaf shape, altered transcriptional levels in both transgenic BRH1 and BR-synthesis mutant lines. Thus, BRH1 may be involved in the BR signaling pathway and regulate the growth and development of rosette leaves. | 12 | Large-Scale Discovery of Non-conventional Peptides in Maize and Arabidopsis through an Integrated Peptidogenomic Pipeline显示文摘Non-conventional peptides(NCPs),which include small open reading frame-encoded peptides,play critical roles in fundamental biological processes.In this study,we developed an integrated peptidogenomic pipeline using high-throughput mass spectra to probe a customized six-frame translation database and applied it to large-scale identification of NCPs in plants.A total of 1993 and 1860 NCPs were unambiguously identified in maize and Arabidopsis,respectively.These NCPs showed distinct characteristics compared with conventional peptides and were derived from introns,3′UTRs,5′UTRs,junctions,and intergenic regions.Furthermore,our results showed that translation events in unannotated transcripts occur more broadly than previously thought.In addition,we found that dozens of maize NCPs are enriched within regions associated with phenotypic variations and domestication selection,indicating that they potentially are involved in genetic regulation of complex traits and domestication in maize.Taken together,our study developed an integrated peptidogenomic pipeline for large-scale identification of NCPs in plants,which would facilitate global characterization of NCPs from other plants.The identification of large-scale NCPs in both monocot(maize)and dicot(Arabidopsis)plants indicates that a large portion of plant genome can be translated into biologically functional molecules,which has important implications for functional genomic studies. | Shunxi Wang Lei Tian Haijun Liu Xiang Li Jinghua Zhang Xueyan Chen Xingmeng Jia Xu Zheng Shubiao Wu Yanhui Chen Jianbing Yan Liuji Wu | 2020 | Molecular Plant2020,13,7: | 4 |

| 15 | DNA methylation profile is associated with the osteogenic potential of three distinct human odontogenic stem cells显示文摘Among the various sources of human autologous stem cells,stem cells isolated from dental tissues exhibit excellent properties in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.However,the distinct potential of these odontogenic cell lines remains unclear.In this study,we analyzed DNA methylation patterns to determine whether specific differences existed among three different odontogenic cell types.Using the HumanMethylation450 Beadchip,the whole genomes of human dental pulp stem cells(DPSCs),periodontal ligament stem cells(PDLSCs),and dental follicle progenitor cells(DFPCs)were compared.Then,the osteogenic potential of these cells was evaluated both in vitro and in vivo,and the methylation levels of certain genes related to bone formation differed among the three cell lines.P values less than 0.05 were considered to indicate statistical significance.The three cell types showed highly similar DNA methylation patterns,although specific differences were identified.Gene ontology analysis revealed that one of the most significantly different gene categories was related to bone formation.Thus,expression of cell surface epitopes and osteogenic-related transcription factors as well as the bone formation capacity were compared.The results showed that compared with DFPCs and DPSCs,PDLSCs had higher transcription levels of osteogenic-related factors,a higher in vitro osteogenic potential,and an increased new bone formation capacity in vivo.In conclusion,the results of this study suggested that the differential DNA methylation profiles could be related to the osteogenic potential of these human odontogenic cell populations.Additionally,the increased osteogenic potential of PDLSCs might aid researchers or clinicians in making better choices regarding tissue regeneration and clinical therapies. | Tingting Ai Jieni Zhang Xuedong Wang Xiaowen Zheng Xueyan Qin Qian Zhang Weiran Li Wei Hu Jiuxiang Lin Feng Chen | 2018 | Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy2018,3,1: | 3 |

| 17 | Study on contrast test of PPC pre-oxidation and coagulation for algae removal and deodorization显示文摘The effect of treating algae-bearing water and induced odor by use of permanganate potassium composite (PPC) pre-oxidation was investigated, and was compared with the effect of treatments by pre-chlorination, permanganate potassium pre-oxidation and simple coagulation. The results showed that simple coagulation and pre-chlorination were less effective in removing algae and its odor, whereas PPC pre-oxidation was the most effective in algae removal and deodorization. Upon oxidation with PPC, the cells of Oscillatoria agardhic were inactivated and some intra-cellular and extra-cellular components were released into the water, which may help the coagulation by their bridging effect. However,only one SLCB resistance gene, conferring partialresistance, is currently known, underscoring theimportance of isolating new SCLB resistancerelatedgenes. Here, we performed a comparativeproteomic analysis and identified 258 proteinsshowing differential abundance during the maizeresponse to B. maydis. These proteins included anascorbate peroxidase (Zea mays ascorbate peroxidase1 (ZmAPX1)) encoded by a gene locatedwithin the mapping interval of a previously identifiedquantitative trait locus associated with SCLBresistance. ZmAPX1 overexpression resulted inlower H_(2)O_(2) accumulation and enhanced resistanceagainst B. maydis. Jasmonic acid (JA)contents and transcript levels for JA biosynthesisand responsive genes increased in ZmAPX1-overexpressing plants infected with B. maydis,whereas Zmapx1 mutants showed the oppositeeffects. We further determined that low levels of H_(2)O_(2) are accompanied by an accumulation of JAthat enhances SCLB resistance. These resultsdemonstrate that ZmAPX1 positively regulatesSCLB resistance by decreasing H_(2)O_(2) accumulationand activating the JA-mediated defensesignaling pathway. This study identified ZmAPX1as a potentially useful gene for increasing SCLBresistance.
