| 1 | Anatomical and chemical characteristics associated with lodging resistance in wheat显示文摘Anatomical and chemical characteristics of stems affect lodging in wheat(Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars. Traits associated with lodging resistance, such as plant height, stem strength, culm wall thickness, pith diameter, and stem diameter, were extensively investigated in earlier studies. However, the solid stem trait was rarely considered. In this study, we measured a range of anatomical and chemical characteristics on solid and hollow stemmed wheat cultivars. Significant correlations were detected between resistance to lodging and several anatomical features, including width of mechanical tissue, weight of low internodes, and width of stem walls. Morphological features that gave the best indication of improved lodging resistance were increased stem width, width of mechanical tissue layer, and stem density. Multiple linear regression analysis showed that 99% of the variation in lodging resistance could be explained by the width of the mechanical tissue layer, suggesting that solid stemmed wheat has several anatomical features for increasing resistance to lodging. In addition, microsatellite markers GWM247 and GWM340 were linked to a single solid stem QTL on chromosome 3BL in a population derived from the cross Xinongshixin(solid stem)/Line 3159(hollow stem). | 2 | Altered trends in carbon uptake in China’s terrestrial ecosystems under the enhanced summer monsoon and warming hiatus显示文摘The carbon budgets in terrestrial ecosystems in China are strongly coupled with climate changes.Over the past decade,China has experienced dramatic climate changes characterized by enhanced summer monsoon and decelerated warming.However,the changes in the trends of terrestrial net ecosystem production(NEP)in China under climate changes are not well documented.Here,we used three ecosystem models to simulate the spatiotemporal variations in China's NEP during 1982–2010 and quantify the contribution of the strengthened summer monsoon and warming hiatus to the NEP variations in four distinct climatic regions of the country.Our results revealed a decadal-scale shift in NEP from a downtrend of–5.95 Tg C/yr^2(reduced sink)during 1982–2000 to an uptrend of 14.22 Tg C/yr^2(enhanced sink)during 2000–10.This shift was essentially induced by the strengthened summer monsoon,which stimulated carbon uptake,and the warming hiatus,which lessened the decrease in the NEP trend.Compared to the contribution of 56.3%by the climate effect,atmospheric CO2 concentration and nitrogen deposition had relatively small contributions(8.6 and 11.3%,respectively)to the shift.In conclusion,within the context of the global-warming hiatus,the strengthening of the summer monsoon is a critical climate factor that enhances carbon uptake in China due to the asymmetric response of photosynthesis and respiration.Our study not only revealed the shift in ecosystem carbon sequestration in China in recent decades,but also provides some insight for understanding ecosystem carbon dynamics in other monsoonal areas. | Honglin He Shaoqiang Wang Li Zhang Junbang Wang Xiaoli Ren Lei Zhou Shilong Piao Hao Yan Weimin Ju Fengxue Gu Shiyong Yu Yuanhe Yang Miaomiao Wang Zhongen Niu Rcmg Ge Huimin Yan Mei Huang Guoyi Zhou Yongfei Bai Zongqiang Xie Zhiyao Tang Bingfang Wu Leiming Zhang Nianpeng He Qiufeng Wang Guirui Yu | 2019 | National Science Review2019,6,3: | 24 |

| 5 | The enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP显示文摘In this paper we present the enhanced X-ray Timing and Polarimetry mission—eXTP. eXTP is a space science mission designed to study fundamental physics under extreme conditions of density, gravity and magnetism. The mission aims at determining the equation of state of matter at supra-nuclear density, measuring effects of QED, and understanding the dynamics of matter in strong-field gravity. In addition to investigating fundamental physics, eXTP will be a very powerful observatory for astrophysics that will provide observations of unprecedented quality on a variety of galactic and extragalactic objects. | 6 | MicroRNA-23a promotes colorectal cancer cell migration and proliferation by targeting at MARK1显示文摘The functional role of microRNA-23a in tumorigenesis has been investigated;however, the exact mechanism of microRNA-23a (miR-23a) in colorectal cancer development has not been fully explored. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the molecular functional role of miR-23a in colorectal carcinogenesis. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction was conducted to investigate the expression level of miR-23a in tissue samples and cell lines (HCT116 and SW480). CCK-8, colony formation and Transwell assay were used to explore the role of miR-23a in cell proliferation and migration. Dual luciferase reporter assay was used to identify the direct binding of miR-23a with its target, MARK1. Western blot analysis was used to analyze the expression level of MARK1, as well as a confirmed miR-23a target gene, MTSS1, in miR-23a-mimic and miR-23a-inhibit groups. Rescue experiments were conducted by overexpression of MARK1 in miR-23a-mimic-transfected cell lines. The results showed that miR-23a was highly expressed in colorectal cancer tissue and cell lines. MiR-23a could promote proliferation and migration of colorectal cancer cell lines. MARK1 was a direct target of miR-23a and the expression level of MARK1 was down-regulated in miR-23a-mimic-transfected cell lines but up-regulated in miR-23a-inhibit-transfected cells. Overexpression of MARK1 could partly reverse the cancer-promoting function of miR-23a. Our results suggested that miR-23a promotes colorectal cancer cell proliferation and migration by mediating the expression of MARK1. | 7 | Erucic acid from Isatis indigotica Fort. suppresses influenza A virus replication and inflammation in vitro and in vivo through modulation of NF-kB and p38 MAPK pathway显示文摘Isatis indigotica Fort.(Ban-Lan-Gen)is an herbal medicine prescribed for influenza treatment.However,its active components and mode of action remain mostly unknown.In the present study,erucic acid was isolated from Isatis indigotica Fort.,and subsequently its underlying mechanism against influenza A virus(IAV)infection was investigated in vitro and in vivo.Our results demonstrated that erucic acid exhibited broad-spectrum antiviral activity against IAV resulting from reduction of viral polymerase transcription activity.Erucic acid was found to exert inhibitory effects on IAV or viral(v)RNA-induced pro-inflam-matory mediators as well as interferons(IFNs).The molecular mechanism by which erucic acid with antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties was attributed to inactivation of NF-kB and p38 MAPK signaling.Furthermore,the NF-kB and p38 MAPK inhibitory effect of erucic acid led to diminishing the transcriptional activity of interferon-stimulated gene factor 3(ISGF-3),and thereby reducing IAV-triggered pro-inflammatory response amplification in IFN-β-sensitized cells.Additionally,IAV-or vRNA-triggered apoptosis of alveolar epithelial A549 cells was prevented by erucic acid.In vivo,erucic acid administration consistently displayed decreased lung viral load and viral antigens expression.Meanwhile,erucic acid markedly reduced CD8+cytotoxic T lymphocyte(CTL)recruitment,pro-apoptotic signaling,hyperactivity of multiple signaling pathways,and exacerbated immune inflammation in the lung,which resulted in decreased lung injury and mortality in mice with a mouse-adapted A/FM/1/47-MA(H1N1)strain infection.Our findings provided a mechanistic basis for the action of erucic acid against IAV-mediated inflammation and injury,suggesting that erucic acid may have a therapeutic potential in the treatment of influenza. | Xiaoli Liang Yuan Huang Xiping Pan Yanbing Hao Xiaowei Chen Haiming Jiang Jing Li Beixian Zhou Zifeng Yang | 2020 | Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2020,10,2: | 10 |
| 8 | Evaluation of Latest TMPA and CMORPH Precipitation Products with Independent Rain Gauge Observation Networks over High-latitude and Low-latitude Basins in China显示文摘The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission(TRMM) Multi-satellite Precipitation Analysis(TMPA) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration(NOAA) Climate Prediction Center(CPC) morphing technique(CMORPH) are two important multi-satellite precipitation products in TRMM-era and perform important functions in GPM-era. Both TMPA and CMORPH systems simultaneously upgraded their retrieval algorithms and released their latest version of precipitation data in 2013. In this study, the latest TMPA and CMORPH products(i.e., Version-7 real-time TMPA(T-rt) and gauge-adjusted TMPA(T-adj), and Version-1.0 real-time CMORPH(C-rt) and Version-1.0 gauge-adjusted CMORPH(C-adj)) are evaluated and intercompared by using independent rain gauge observations for a 12-year(2000–2011) period over two typical basins in China with different geographical and climate conditions. Results indicate that all TMPA and CMORPH products tend to overestimate precipitation for the high-latitude semiarid Laoha River Basin and underestimate it for the low-latitude humid Mishui Basin. Overall, the satellite precipitation products exhibit superior performance over Mishui Basin than that over Laoha River Basin. The C-adj presents the best performance over the high-latitude Laoha River Basin, whereas T-adj showed the best performance over the low-latitude Mishui Basin. The two gauge-adjusted products demonstrate potential in water resource management. However, the accuracy of two real-time satellite precipitation products demonstrates large variability in the two validation basins. The C-rt reaches a similar accuracy level with the gauge-adjusted satellite precipitation products in the high-latitude Laoha River Basin, and T-rt performs well in the low-latitude Mishui Basin. The study also reveals that all satellite precipitation products obviously overestimate light rain amounts and events over Laoha River Basin, whereas they underestimate the amount and events over Mishui Basin. The findings of the precision characteristics associated with the latest TMPA and CMORPH precipitation products at different basins will offer satellite precipitation users an enhanced understanding of the applicability of the latest TMPA and CMORPH for water resource management, hydrologic process simulation, and hydrometeorological disaster prediction in other similar regions in China. | 9 | Association Between Homocysteine Level and Methylenetetrahydrofolate Reductase Gene Polymorphisms in Type 2 Diabetes Accompanied by Dyslipidemia显示文摘Objective To investigate the association between total homocysteine(tHcy)level in plasma and methylenetetrahydrofblate reductase(MTHFR)C677T and A1298C genetic polymorphisms in a Chinese Han nationality population with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM)accompanied by dyslipidemia.Methods This case-control study enrolled T2DM patients with dyslipidemia and without dyslipidemia respectively.Sanger dideoxy-mediated chain-termination method was used to detect the gene polymorphisms of MTHFR C677T and A1298C.Plasma tHcy and lipid levels were measured as well.The genotype frequency and allele frequency between the dyslipidemia and non-dyslipidemia groups were compared by using Chi-square test.Plasma tHcy level ofT2DM patients who carried the different genotypes was compared by Student's t test.Results Finally,82 T2DM patients with dyslipidemia and 94 ones without dyslipidemia were included in this study.There was a significant correlation between tHcy level and MTHFR C677T gene polymorphism inT2DM patients(t=2.27,P=0.02).Moreover,the plasma tHcy level in the dyslipidemia patients who carried MTHFR 677TT genotype was significantly higher than that in those with CT+CC genotype(13.62+6.97 vs.10.95+3.62pmol/L,t=2.2O,P=0.03);while for patients without dyslipidemia,comparison of the tHcy level between those who carried the above two alleles showed no significantly difference(13.34±6.03 vs.12.04±5.09μmol/L,t=1.08,P=0.29).Conclusion MTHFR 677TT genotype might associate with higher tHcy level in T2DM patients with dyslipidemia. | Ying Yin Rui Li Xiaoli Li Kunrong Wu Ling Li Yuedong Xu Lin Liao Rui Yang Yan Li | 2020 | Chinese Medical Sciences Journal2020,35,1: | 10 |
| 10 | Designing of highly selective and high-temperature endurable RWGS heterogeneous catalysts: recent advances and the future directions显示文摘Reverse water gas shift(RWGS) reaction can be served as a pivotal stage of transitioning the abundant CO_2 resource into chemicals or hydrocarbon fuels, which is attractive for the CO_2 utilization and of eventually significance in enabling a rebuilt ecological system for unconventional fuels. This concept is appealing when the process is considered as a solution for the storage of renewable energy, which may also find a variety of potential end uses for the outer space exploration. However, a big challenge to this issue is the rational design of high temperature endurable RWGS catalysts with desirable CO product selectivity. In this work, we present a comprehensive overview of recent publications on this research topic,mainly focusing on the catalytic performance of RWGS reaction over three major kinds of heterogeneous catalysts, including supported metal catalysts, mixed oxide catalysts and transition metal carbides. The reaction thermodynamic analysis, kinetics and mechanisms are also described in detail. | 11 | Reconstruction of flood events over the last 150 years in the lower reaches of the Changjiang River显示文摘The reconstruction of paleofloods in the Holocene has become one research highlight for the present global change study.The core sediments from one newly-emerged bar in the lower Changjiang River(Yangtze River)mainstream were collected for grain size and organic elemental measurements,with aim to reconstruct the flood events over the past 150 years.Major grain size parameters such as mean grain size,probability cumulative curve and C-M diagram of the core sediments clearly indicate the flood event deposition.Furthermore,the TOC/TN ratios in the sediments can indicate flood events considering that during the flash floods,strong surface erosion in the upper and lower reaches of the Changjiang River can transport a large amount of undecomposed plant debris and organic components with relatively low C/N ratios into the lower mainstream.Based on 210Pb dating and sedimentary geochemical results,the research profile recorded several large floods happened from 1850 to 1954,which agrees well with the historical documents and hydrological observations.Interesting to note that the flood events since the 1960s cannot be distinctly recognized on the basis of sediment grain size and organic elemental compositions of the profile,which mainly reflects the intensive human activities over the last fifty years,especially condense dam construction,have significantly changed the characters of suspended sediment into the lower mainstream. | ZHAN Wang YANG ShouYe LIU XiaoLi LI JianWei CHOI ManSik | 2010 | Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,21: | 9 |

| 13 | A novel computing model of the maximum clique problem based on circular DNA显示文摘A novel DNA-based model is developed to calculate NP-complete problems, which is made of circular DNA molecules, streptavidin-coated magnetic beads and DNA circligase. To test the feasibility of the model, we apply it to compute a five-node maximum clique problem (MCP). During the computation, DNA molecule structures were transformed between linear DNA and circular DNA by streptavidin-coated magnetic beads and circligase, in order to search for the truth solutions. This greatly reduces the quantity of time and space consumed in calculation, and its time and space complexity both are O(n + m). Compared with the brute force method, using this algorithm searching process at most needs in n + 1 test tubes for an MCP with n vertices, while brute force method requires 2n test tubes. Furthermore, the constructed unenumerable initial solution space greatly improved the processing ability of the DNA computer. | 16 | Highly Efficient and Stable Hydrogen Production in All pH Range by Two-Dimensional Structured Metal-Doped Tungsten Semicarbides显示文摘Transition-metal-doped tungsten semicarbide nanosheets(M-doped W_(2)C NSs,M=Fe,Co,and Ni)have been synthesized through carburization of the mixture of tungsten trioxide,polyvinylpyrrolidone,and metal dopant.Te nanosheets grow directly on the W mesh and have the lateral dimension of several hundreds of nm to a few�m with a thickness of few tens nm.It is demonstrated that the M-doped W_(2)C NSs exhibit superior electrocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).Impressively,the Nidoped W_(2)C NSs(2 at%Ni)with the optimized HER activity show extremely low onset overpotentials of 4,9,and 19 mV and modest Tafel slopes of 39,51,and 87 mV dec−1 in acidic(pH=0),neutral(pH=7.2),and basic(pH=14)solutions,respectively,which is close to the commercial Pt/C catalyst.Density functional theory(DFT)calculations also demonstrate that the Gibbs free energy for H adsorption of Ni-W_(2)C is much closer to the optimal valueG_(H∗)=-0.073 eV as compared to-0.16 eV of W_(2)C.Furthermore,nearly 100%Faradaic efciency and long-term stability are obtained in those environments.Tis realization of highly tolerant metal semicarbide catalyst performing on par with commercial Pt/C in all range of pH ofers a key step towards industrially electrochemical water splitting. | Edison H.Ang Khang N.Dinh Xiaoli Sun Ying Huang Jun Yang Zhili Dong Xiaochen Dong Wei Huang Zhiguo Wang Hua Zhang Qingyu Yan | 2019 | Research2019,,1: | 7 |

| 18 | Aerosol Data Assimilation Using Data from Fengyun-3A and MODIS:Application to a Dust Storm over East Asia in 2011显示文摘Aerosol optical depth(AOD) is the most basic parameter that describes the optical properties of atmospheric aerosols,and it can be used to indicate aerosol content. In this study, we assimilated AOD data from the Fengyun-3 A(FY-3 A) and MODIS meteorological satellite using the Gridpoint Statistical Interpolation three-dimensional variational data assimilation system. Experiments were conducted for a dust storm over East Asia in April 2011. Each 0600 UTC analysis initialized a24-h Weather Research and Forecasting with Chemistry model forecast. The results generally showed that the assimilation of satellite AOD observational data can significantly improve model aerosol mass prediction skills. The AOD distribution of the analysis field was closer to the observations of the satellite after assimilation of satellite AOD data. In addition, the analysis resulting from the experiment assimilating both FY-3 A/MERSI(Medium-resolution Spectral Imager) AOD data and MODIS AOD data had closer agreement with the ground-based values than the individual assimilation of the two datasets for the dust storm over East Asia. | 19 | Evolution of permafrost in China during the last 20 ka显示文摘The formation and evolution of permafrost in China during the last 20 ka were reconstructed on the basis of large amount of paleo-permafrost remains and paleo-periglacial evidence, as well as paleo-glacial landforms, paleo-flora and paleofauna records. The results indicate that, during the local Last Glacial Maximum(LLGM) or local Last Permafrost Maximum(LLPMax), the extent of permafrost of China reached 5.3×106-5.4×106 km2, or thrice that of today, but permafrost shrank to only0.80×106-0.85×106 km2, or 50% that of present, during the local Holocene Megathermal Period(LHMP), or the local Last Permafrost Minimum(LLPMin). On the basis of the dating of periglacial remains and their distributive features, the extent of permafrost in China was delineated for the two periods of LLGM(LLPMax) and LHMP(LLPMin), and the evolution of permafrost in China was divided into seven periods as follows:(1) LLGM in Late Pleistocene(ca. 20000 to 13000-10800 a BP)with extensive evidence for the presence of intensive ice-wedge expansion for outlining its LLPMax extent;(2) A period of dramatically changing climate during the early Holocene(10800 to 8500-7000 a BP) when permafrost remained relatively stable but with a general trend of shrinking areal extent;(3) The LHMP in the Mid-Holocene(8500-7000 to 4000-3000 a BP)when permafrost degraded intensively and extensively, and shrank to the LLPMin;(4) Neoglaciation during the late Holocene(4000-3000 to 1000 a BP, when permafrost again expanded;(5) Medieval Warming Period(MWP) in the late Holocene(1000-500 a BP) when permafrost was in a relative decline;(6) Little Ice Age(LIA) in the late Holocene(500-100 a BP), when permafrost relatively expanded, and;(7) Recent warming(during the 20 th century), when permafrost continuously degraded and still is degrading. | 20 | A draft sequence of the rice (Oryza sativa ssp. indica) genome显示文摘The sequence of the rice genome holds fundamental information for its biology, including physiology, genetics, development, and evolution, as well as information on many beneficial phenotypes of economic significance. Using a 'whole genome shotgun' approach, we have pro-duced a draft rice genome sequence of Oryza sativa ssp. in-dica, the major crop rice subspecies in China and many other regions of Asia. The draft genome sequence is constructed from over 4.3 million successful sequencing traces with an accumulative total length of 2214.9 Mb. The initial assembly of the non-redundant sequences reached 409.76 Mb in length, based on 3.30 million successful sequencing traces with a total length of 1797.4 Mb from an indica variant cultivar 93-11, giving an estimated coverage of 95.29% of the rice genome with an average base accuracy of higher than 99%.
