9A novel CHS/ALG bi-layer composite membrane with sustained antimicrobial efficacy used as wound dressing显示文摘A membrane composed of an alginate(ALG) layer and a chitosan(CHS) layer with sustained antimicrobial efficacy was prepared.Ciprofloxacin HC1(CIP) was incorporated into the ALG layer.Morphological feature of the composite membrane was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM).Water uptake capacity,in vitro drug release,and in vitro antimicrobial activity were evaluated.The composite membrane exhibited perfect binding characteristic between the two layers.The water uptake capacity of all the membranes was above 800%.The CIP could release from the composite membranes for 48 h.The membrane could control the bacterial growth persistently.The results suggested that this CHS/ALG composite membrane incorporated with CIP had the potential for wound dressing application.Yang Dong Hong Zhuo Liu Lu Xu Gang Li Zi Ning Ma Fei Han Hui Min Yao Yah Hui Sun San Ming Li 2010Chinese Chemical Letters2010,21,8:1

13Expression of Thioredoxin System Protein Induced by Silica in Rat Lung Tissue显示文摘Silicosis,a potentially fatal global occupational disease, is characterized by progressive deterioration of pulmonary function and irreversible fibrosis resulting from crystalline silicon dioxide or silica inhalation.Extensive pieces of evidence[1-3]manifest that inhaled silica particles could directly or indirectly cause excess generation of reactive oxygen species(ROS),which plays a key role in the pathogenesis of silicosis.In order to maintain the cellular redox balance,the main function of thioredoxin(Trx)/thioredoxin reductase(TrxR)systems is to scavenge the ROS. TrxR, as a reductase of Trx currently known only,has the function of antioxidation and scavenging free radicals[4].In addition, recent in vitro studies demonstrate that Trx interacts directly with and inhibits the activity of apoptosis-regulating kinase-1(ASK-1)[5].The damaged cell of lung tissue caused by ROS may be an important link to ASK-1 triggered cell apoptosis.Zhu et al.[1] reported that silica could aggravate oxidative stress and promote the development of silicosis in rat lungs after silica exposure by downregulating the expression of TrxR and poor Trx activity. The specific mechanism of imbalance of reduction/oxidation status in silicosis is poorly understood.Our previous studies[6]demonstrated that oxidative stress in rats induced by silica leads to increased peroxiredoxins(Prxs) protein reactivity to resist oxidative stress, and Trx as an electron donor is functionally associated with Prxs. 17Surface reconstruction establishing Mott-Schottky heterojunction and built-in space-charging effect accelerating oxygen evolution reaction显示文摘Structural reconstruction of nanomaterials offers a fantastic way to regulate the electronic structure of active sites and promote their catalytic activities.However,how to properly facilitate surface reconstruction to overcome large overpotential that stimulate the surface reconstruction has remained elusive.Herein,we adopt a facile approach to activate surface reconstruction on Ni(OH)_(2) by incorporating F anions to achieve electro-derived structural oxidation process and further boost its oxygen evolution reaction(OER)activity.Ex situ Raman and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy studies indicate that F ions incorporation facilitated surface reconstruction and promotes the original Ni(OH)_(2)transformed into a mesoporous and amorphous F-NiOOH layer during the electrochemical process.Density functional theory(DFT)calculation reveals that this self-reconstructed NiOOH induces a space-charge effect on the p-n junction interface,which not only promotes the absorption of intermediates species(^(*)OH,^(*)O,and^(*)OOH)and charge-transfer process during catalysis,but also leads to a strong interaction of the p-n junction interface to stabilize the materials.This work opens up a new possibility to regulate the electronic structure of active sites and promote their catalytic activities.Yao Kang Shuo Wang Kwan San Hui Shuxing Wu Duc Anh Dinh Xi Fan Feng Bin Fuming Chen Jianxin Geng Weng-Chon(Max)Cheong Kwun Nam Hui 2022Nano Research2022,15,4:0
18Sodium 4-phenylbutyrate Attenuates High-fat Diet-induced Impaired Spermatogenesis显示文摘Objective To determine the mitigating effects of sodium 4-phenylbutyrate(4-PBA) on high-fat diet(HFD)-induced spermatogenesis dysfunction. Methods Male rats(n = 30) were randomly divided into three groups: control, HFD, and 4-PBA(HFD +4-PBA). After 13 weeks, rats were euthanized. Testes and epididymis were harvested for further analysis. Sex hormones were detected, and hematoxylin and eosin staining was performed to examine the histological changes in the testes. Semen samples were collected to evaluate sperm quality. Spermatogenic cell apoptosis was detected by TUNEL assay. Results Compared with the control group, the final body weight and body weight gain were significantly higher in HFD-fed rats, while the testicle/body weight ratios were lower(P < 0.05). In HFD-fed rats, obvious pathological changes in the testicular tissue were observed. Treatment with 4-PBA attenuated HFD-induced histological damage, ameliorated the HFD-induced decrease in serum testosterone(T), and reduced the rate of testicular cell apoptosis(P < 0.05) in obese male rats. Finally, 4-PBA significantly improved semen parameters in HFD rats(P < 0.05). Conclusion HFD exposure induced detrimental effects on spermatogenesis, semen quality, serum T level, and testicular cell apoptosis in rats.
