3Ce and Er Co-doped TiO2 for rapid bacteria- killing using visible light显示文摘Bacterial infection and related diseases are threatening the health of human beings.Photocatalytic disinfection as a simple and low-cost disinfection strategy is attracting more and more attention.In this work,TiO2 nanoparticles(NPs)were modified by co-doping of Ce and Er using the sol-gel method,which endowed TiO2 NPs with enhanced visible light photocatalytic performance but not pure ultraviolet photocatalytic properties compared the untreated TiO2.Our results disclosed that as the doping content of Er increased,the photocatalytic activity of modified TiO2 NPs initially increased and subsequently decreased.The same trend occurred for Ce doping.When the doping dose of Er and Ce is 0.5 mol%and 0.2 mol%,the 0.5Ce0.2Ti-O calcined at 800℃ presented the best antibacterial properties,with the antibacterial efficiency of 91.23%and 92.8%for Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli,respectively.The existence of Er ions is thought to successfully turn the near-infrared radiation into visible region,which is easier to be absorbed by TiO2 NPs.Meanwhile,the addition of Ce ions can effectively extend spectral response range and inhibit the recombination of electrons and holes,enhancing the photocatalytic disinfection activity of co-doped TiO2.Yawei Ren Yajing Han Zhaoyang Li Xiangmei Liu Shengli Zhu Yanqin Liang Kelvin Wai Kwok Yeung Shuilin Wu 2020Bioactive Materials2020,5,2:7

7Long-range atmospheric transport and alpine condensation of short-chain chlorinated paraffins on the southeastern Tibetan Plateau显示文摘Pristine alpine regions are ideal regions for investigating the long-range atmospheric transport and cold trapping effects of short chain chlorinated paraffins(SCCPs).The concentrations and alpine condensation of SCCPs were investigated in lichen samples collected from the southeastern Tibetan Plateau.The concentrations of SCCPs ranged from 3098 to 6999 ng/g lipid weight(lw)and appeared to have an increasing trend with altitude.For congeners,C10 dominated among all the congener groups.The different environmental behavior for different congener groups was closely related to their octanol-air partition coefficient(Koa).C10 congeners showed an increasing trend with altitude,whereas C13 congeners were negatively correlated with altitude.Volumetric bioconcentration factors(BCF)of SCCPs reached 8.71 in lichens,which were higher than other semivolatile organic compounds(SVOCs)such as organochlorine pesticides(OCPs),polybrominated diphenyl ethers(PBDEs),polychlorinated biphenyls(PCBs),and hexabromocyclododecane(HBCD).These results suggested that SCCPs were prone to accumulate in the lichen from the air and provided evidence for the role of lichens as a suitable atmospheric indicator in the Tibetan Plateau.Huijuan Li Duo Bu Yan Gao Nali Zhu Jing Wu Xiangfeng Chen Jianjie Fu Yawei Wang Aiqian Zhang Guibin Jiang 2021Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,1:1

9Introduction of porous structure:A feasible and promising method for improving thermoelectric performance of Bi_2Te_3 based bulks显示文摘The porous p-type Bi_(0.4)Sb_(1.6)Te_3 bulks containing irregularly and randomly oriented pores were obtained by artificially controlling the relative density of sintered samples during resistance pressing sintering process. It is demonstrated that the thermoelectric performances are significantly affected by the porous structure, especially for the electrical and thermal conductivity due to the enhanced carrier scattering and phonon scattering. The increasing porosity resulted in the obvious decrease in electrical and thermal conductivity, and little change in Seebeck coefficients. It is encouraging that the reduction of thermal conductivity can compensate for the deterioration of electrical performance, leading to the enhancement in thermoelectric figure of merit(ZT). The maximum ZT value of 1.0 was obtained for the sample with a relative density of 90% at 333 K. Unfortunately, the increase in porosity also brought in obvious degradations in Vickers hardness from 51.71 to 27.74 HV. It is worth mentioning that although the Vickers hardness of the sample with a relative density of 90% decreased to 40.12 HV, it was still about twice as high as that of the zone melting sample(21.25 HV). 10Is EGFR gene mutation testing necessary in smokers with non-small cell lung cancer?显示文摘Objective Previous studies have proven that cumulative smoking dose predicts the prevalence of epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) mutations. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between smoking-related factors and EGFR mutation status. Methods Samples were collected from 195 smokers with non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC) who underwent surgical resection and the presence of EGFR mutations(exons 19 and 21) were determined by real-time polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR).Results EGFR gene mutations were present in 33(16.9%) patients who were smokers; the patients were divided into three groups according to the smoking index(SI). The incidence of EGFR mutations decreased from 38.9% in mild smokers to 8.1% in severe smokers(P = 0.001). Compared to daily smoking dose(P = 0.547), initial smoking age(P = 0.085) and duration of smoking history had a larger effect on EGFR mutation status(P = 0.002).Conclusion Although there is a decrease in the incidence of mutations with increasing SI, there were still around 17% of smokers with NSCLC that harbored EGFR mutations, so it is necessary to test for EGFR mutation status in smokers with NSCLC.Jianfei Zhu Jinyan Yuan Yawei Dou Wei Tian Shudong Li Hongtao Wang Zhe Li 2017Oncology and Translational Medicine2017,3,4:1

18Experimental and numerical study of the adsorption performance of a vortex suction device using water-swirling flow显示文摘An electrically activated underwater suction device is designed to form an amazing amount of negative pressure by generating water swirling flow,which can make underwater wall-climbing robot stick to the wall surface allowing a ground clearance.For the purpose of a full understanding of the mechanism of the suction device,a series of experimental tests are carried out and a computational fluid dynamics(CFD)model is established.The results show that the suction force F is consistent between experimental tests and simulations.An insight into the flow phenomena of vortex suction device,including spatial velocity and pressure distribution,is given through numerical simulation analysis.Furthermore,the crucial parameters,i.e.,the rotation speedωand gap clearance h,are studied.Then the relationships of F-ωand F-h are clarified.It reveals that with the increasing of rotation speed,the suction force increases quadratically.And with the increasing of gap clearance,the suction force increases firstly and then decreases,so that a reasonable design interval of gap clearance can be got to obtain the required suction force for the engineering applications.ZHU YaWei ZHOU RenGuan YANG Gang ZHU YanQing HU DeAn 2020Science China(Technological Sciences)2020,63,6:1
19Structural and functional imaging of brains显示文摘Analyzing the complex structures and functions of brain is the key issue to understanding the physiological and pathological processes.Although neuronal morphology and local distribution of neurons/blood vessels in the brain have been known,the subcellular structures of cells remain challenging,especially in the live brain.In addition,the complicated brain functions involve numerous functional molecules,but the concentrations,distributions and interactions of these molecules in the brain are still poorly understood.In this review,frontier techniques available for multiscale structure imaging from organelles to the whole brain are first overviewed,including magnetic resonance imaging(MRI),computed tomography(CT),positron emission tomography(PET),serial-section electron microscopy(ss EM),light microscopy(LM)and synchrotron-based X-ray microscopy(XRM).Specially,XRM for three-dimensional(3D)imaging of large-scale brain tissue with high resolution and fast imaging speed is highlighted.Additionally,the development of elegant methods for acquisition of brain functions from electrical/chemical signals in the brain is outlined.In particular,the new electrophysiology technologies for neural recordings at the single-neuron level and in the brain are also summarized.We also focus on the construction of electrochemical probes based on dual-recognition strategy and surface/interface chemistry for determination of chemical species in the brain with high selectivity and long-term stability,as well as electrochemophysiological microarray for simultaneously recording of electrochemical and electrophysiological signals in the brain.Moreover,the recent development of brain MRI probes with high contrast-to-noise ratio(CNR)and sensitivity based on hyperpolarized techniques and multi-nuclear chemistry is introduced.Furthermore,multiple optical probes and instruments,especially the optophysiological Raman probes and fiber Raman photometry,for imaging and biosensing in live brain are emphasized.Finally,a brief perspective on existing challenges and further research development is provided.Zhichao Liu Ying Zhu Liming Zhang Weiping Jiang Yawei Liu Qiaowei Tang Xiaoqing Cai Jiang Li Lihua Wang Changlu Tao Xianzhen Yin Xiaowei Li Shangguo Hou Dawei Jiang Kai Liu Xin Zhou Hongjie Zhang Maili Liu Chunhai Fan Yang Tian 2023Science China Chemistry2023,66,2:0
20Rbm8a regulates neurogenesis and reduces Alzheimer's disease-associated pathology in the dentate gyrus of 5×FAD mice显示文摘Alzheimer’s disease is a prevalent and debilitating neurodegenerative condition that profoundly affects a patient’s daily functioning with progressive cognitive decline,which can be partly attributed to impaired hippocampal neurogenesis.Neurogenesis in the hippocampal dentate gyrus is likely to persist throughout life but declines with aging,especially in Alzheimer’s disease.Recent evidence indicated that RNA-binding protein 8A(Rbm8a)promotes the proliferation of neural progenitor cells,with lower expression levels observed in Alzheimer’s disease patients compared with healthy people.This study investigated the hypothesis that Rbm8a overexpression may enhance neurogenesis by promoting the proliferation of neural progenitor cells to improve memory impairment in Alzheimer’s disease.Therefore,Rbm8a overexpression was induced in the dentate gyrus of 5×FAD mice to validate this hypothesis.Elevated Rbm8a levels in the dentate gyrus triggered neurogenesis and abated pathological phenotypes(such as plaque formation,gliosis reaction,and dystrophic neurites),leading to ameliorated memory performance in 5×FAD mice.RNA sequencing data further substantiated these findings,showing the enrichment of differentially expressed genes involved in biological processes including neurogenesis,cell proliferation,and amyloid protein formation.In conclusion,overexpressing Rbm8a in the dentate gyrus of 5×FAD mouse brains improved cognitive function by ameliorating amyloid-beta-associated pathological phenotypes and enhancing neurogenesis.Chenlu Zhu Xiao Ren Chen Liu Yawei Liu Yonggang Wang 2024Neural Regeneration Research2024,19,4:0
