| 1 | Genome-level diversification of eight ancient tea populations in the Guizhou and Yunnan regions identifies candidate genes for core agronomic traits显示文摘The ancient tea plant,as a precious natural resource and source of tea plant genetic diversity,is of great value for studying the evolutionary mechanism,diversification,and domestication of plants.The overall genetic diversity among ancient tea plants and the genetic changes that occurred during natural selection remain poorly understood.Here,we report the genome resequencing of eight different groups consisting of 120 ancient tea plants:six groups from Guizhou Province and two groups from Yunnan Province.Based on the 8,082,370 identified high-quality SNPs,we constructed phylogenetic relationships,assessed population structure,and performed genome-wide association studies(GWAS).Our phylogenetic analysis showed that the 120 ancient tea plants were mainly clustered into three groups and five single branches,which is consistent with the results of principal component analysis(PCA).Ancient tea plants were further divided into seven subpopulations based on genetic structure analysis.Moreover,it was found that the variation in ancient tea plants was not reduced by pressure from the external natural environment or artificial breeding(nonsynonymous/synonymous=1.05).By integrating GWAS,selection signals,and gene function prediction,four candidate genes were significantly associated with three leaf traits,and two candidate genes were significantly associated with plant type.These candidate genes can be used for further functional characterization and genetic improvement of tea plants. | Litang Lu Hufang Chen Xiaojing Wang Yichen Zhao Xinzhuan Yao Biao Xiong Yanli Deng Degang Zhao | 2021 | Horticulture Research2021,8,1: | 3 |

| 4 | Analysis of oral microorganism diversity in healthy individuals before and after chewing areca nuts using PCR-denatured gradient gel electrophoresis显示文摘To analyze oral microbial diversity in the saliva of 8 healthy individuals before and after chewing areca nuts. Saliva samples were collected before chewing areca nuts, after chewing areca nuts for 5 min and after chewing areca nuts for 30 min. DNA was extracted, and microbial diversity was examined using PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis(PCR-DGGE). When examining DGGE profiles collectively,the bands associated with Streptococcus and Veillonella were the most intense, making them the most prevalent bacteria. Furthermore, the band intensities did not decrease after chewing areca nuts for 5 or30 min; thus, these bacteria were unaffected. However, when examining some individuals, the band intensities for Streptococcus and Veillonella became more intense after 5 min of chewing and then returned to the pre-chewing level. This difference may be attributed to the mechanical movements of the oral cavity or individual differences. | 6 | Strong partitioning of soil bacterial community composition and co-occurrence networks along a small-scale elevational gradient on Zijin Mountain显示文摘The elevational distributions of bacterial communities in natural mountain forests,especially along large elevational gradients,have been studied for many years.However,the distributional patterns that underlie variations in soil bacterial communities along small-scale elevational gradients in urban ecosystems are not yet well understood.Using Illumina MiSeq DNA sequencing,we surveyed soil bacterial communities at three elevations on Zijin Mountain in Nanjing City:the hilltop(300 m a.s.l.),the hillside(150 m a.s.l.),and the foot of the hill(0 m a.s.l.).The results showed that edaphic properties differed significantly with elevation.Bacterial community composition,rather than alpha diversity,strongly differed among the three elevations(Adonis:R2=0.12,P<0.01).Adonis and DistLM analyses demonstrated that bacterial community composition was highly correlated with soil pH,elevation,total nitrogen(TN),and dissolved organic carbon(DOC).The degree scores,betweenness centralities,and composition of keystone species were distinct among the elevations.These results demonstrate strong elevational partitioning in the distributions of soil bacterial communities along the gradient on Zijin Mountain.Soil pH and elevation together drove the smallscale elevational distribution of soil bacterial communities.This study broadens our understanding of distribution patterns and biotic co-occurrence associations of soil bacterial communities from large elevational gradients to short elevational gradients. | Xu Liu Teng Yang Yu Shi Yichen Zhu Mulin He Yunke Zhao Jonathan MAdams Haiyan Chu | 2021 | Soil Ecology Letters2021,3,4: | 2 |

| 10 | DualFace:Two-stage drawing guidance for freehand portrait sketching显示文摘Special skills are required in portrait painting, such as imagining geometric structures and facial detail for final portrait designs. This makes it a difficult task for users, especially novices without prior artistic training, to draw freehand portraits with high-quality details. In this paper, we propose dualFace, a portrait drawing interface to assist users with different levels of drawing skills to complete recognizable and authentic face sketches. Inspired by traditional artist workflows for portrait drawing, dualFace gives two-stages of drawing assistance to provide global and local visual guidance. The former helps users draw contour lines for portraits (i.e., geometric structure), and the latter helps users draw details of facial parts, which conform to the user-drawn contour lines. In the global guidance stage, the user draws several contour lines, and dualFace then searches for several relevant images from an internal database and displays the suggested face contour lines on the background of the canvas. In the local guidance stage, we synthesize detailed portrait images with a deep generative model from user-drawn contour lines, and then use the synthesized results as detailed drawing guidance. | 12 | A comprehensive evaluation of flowering plant diversity and conservation priority for national park planning in China显示文摘Establishment of a national park protection system in China,including the latest target proposed to protect at least 30%of the land area,calls for a comprehensive exploration of conservation priorities incorporating multiple diversity facets.We herein evaluate the spatial distribution of Chinese flowering plants from the perspectives of richness,uniqueness,vulnerability,and evolutionary history,by integrating three mega-phylogenies and comprehensive distribution data.We detect significantly high consistency among hotspots of different diversity measures for Chinese flowering plants,suggesting that multiple facets of evolutionary diversity are concentrically distributed in China.Affording legal protection to these areas is expected to maximize positive conservation outcomes.We propose two integrative diversity indices by incorporating three richness-based and three phylogeny-based measures,respectively.Both methods identify areas with high species richness,but the integrative phylogeny-based index also locates key areas with ancient and unique evolutionary histories(e.g.,Ailao-Wuliang Mts,Dabie Mts,Hainan rainforest,Karst area of Yunnan-Guizhou-Guangxi,Nanling Mts,and southeast coastal regions).Of all the diversity indices explored,phylogenetic endemism maximizes the incidental protection of other indices in most cases,emphasizing its significance for conservation planning.Finally,42 priority areas are identified by combining the 5%-criterion hotspots of two integrative indices and the minimum area to protect all threatened species analyzed.These priorities cover only 13.3%of China's land area,but host 97.1%of species richness(23,394/24,095),96.5%of endemic species(11,841/12,274),100%of threatened species(2,613/2,613),and 99.3%of phylogenetic diversity for flowering plants involved in this study.These frameworks provide a solid scientific basis for national park planning in China. | Limin Lu Lina Zhao Haihua Hu Bing Liu Yuchang Yang Yichen You Danxiao Peng Russell L.Barrett Zhiduan Chen | 2023 | Fundamental Research2023,3,6: | 1 |
| 13 | A social computing method for energy safety显示文摘Information and communication technologies enable the transformation of traditional energy systems into cyber-physical energy systems(CPESs),but such systems have also become popular targets of cyberattacks.Currently,available methods for evaluating the impacts of cyberattacks suffer from limited resilience,efficacy,and practical value.To mitigate their potentially disastrous consequences,this study suggests a two-stage,discrepancy-based optimization approach that considers both preparatory actions and response measures,integrating concepts from social computing.The proposed Kullback-Leibler divergence-based,distributionally robust optimization(KDR)method has a hierarchical,two-stage objective function that incorporates the operating costs of both system infrastructures(e.g.,energy resources,reserve capacity)and real-time response measures(e.g.,load shedding,demand-side management,electric vehicle charging station management).By incorporating social computing principles,the optimization framework can also capture the social behavior and interactions of energy consumers in response to cyberattacks.The preparatory stage entails day-ahead operational decisions,leveraging insights from social computing to model and predict the behaviors of individuals and communities affected by potential cyberattacks.The mitigation stage generates responses designed to contain the consequences of the attack by directing and optimizing energy use from the demand side,taking into account the social context and preferences of energy consumers,to ensure resilient,economically efficient CPES operations.Our method can determine optimal schemes in both stages,accounting for the social dimensions of the problem.An original disaster mitigation model uses an abstract formulation to develop a risk-neutral model that characterizes cyberattacks through KDR,incorporating social computing techniques to enhance the understanding and response to cyber threats.This approach can mitigate the impacts more effectively than several existing methods,even with limited data availability.To extend this risk-neutral model,we incorporate conditional value at risk as an essential risk measure,capturing the uncertainty and diverse impact scenarios arising from social computing factors.The empirical results affirm that the KDR method,which is enriched with social computing considerations,produces resilient,economically efficient solutions for managing the impacts of cyberattacks on a CPES.By integrating social computing principles into the optimization framework,it becomes possible to better anticipate and address the social and behavioral aspects associated with cyberattacks on CPESs,ultimately improving the overall resilience and effectiveness of the system’s response measures. | Pengfei Zhao Shuangqi Li Zhidong Cao Paul Jen-Hwa Hu Daniel Dajun Zeng Da Xie Yichen Shen Jiangfeng Li Tianyi Luo | 2024 | Journal of Safety Science and Resilience2024,5,1: | 0 |

| 15 | Capture-SELEX for Chloramphenicol Binding Aptamers for Labeled and Label-Free Fluorescence Sensing显示文摘Chloramphenicol(CAP)is a potent antibiotic.Due to its side effects,CAP is currently banned in most countries,but it is still found in many food products and in the environment.Developing aptamer-based biosensors for the detection of CAP has interested many researchers.While both RNA and DNA aptamers were previously reported for CAP,they were all obtained by immobilization of the CAP base,which omitted the two chlorine atoms.In this work,DNA aptamers were selected using the libraryimmobilized method and free unmodified CAP.Three families of aptamers were obtained,and the best one named CAP1 showed a dissociation constant(K_(d))of 9.8μM using isothermal titration calorimetry(ITC).A fluorescent strand-displacement sensor showed a limit of detection(LOD)of 14μM CAP.Thioflavin T(ThT)staining allowed label-free detection of CAP with a LOD of 1μM in buffer,1.8μM in Lake Ontario water,and 3.6μM in a wastewater sample.Comparisons were made with previously reported aptamers,and ITC failed to show binding of a previously reported 80-mer aptamer.Due to the small size and well-defined secondary structures of CAP1,this aptamer will find analytical applications for environmental and food monitoring. | Yichen Zhao Albert Zehan Li Juewen Liu | 2023 | Environment & Health2023,1,2: | 0 |
| 16 | Efficacy of Zhumian Tang formula granules(助眠汤配方颗粒)combined with eszopiclone for the treatment of poor sleep quality:a multi-center,randomized controlled,superiority trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Zhumian Tang formula granules(助眠汤配方颗粒)combined with eszopiclone for treating poor sleep quality.METHODS:This multi-center,dynamic blockrandomized,parallel-group superiority clinical trial included 130 patients.The combined treatment group received Zhumian Tang formula granules combined with eszopiclone treatment,and the control group received eszopiclone treatment only.The group allocation ratio was 1∶1.The duration of treatment was 2 weeks.Participants were asked to complete questionnaires before treatment,after 1 week of the intervention,after 2 weeks of the intervention,and at the follow-up on week 3.The primary outcomes were the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)score and the total effective rate of treatment.The secondary outcome was the rate of adverse effects.RESULTS:Compared with the eszopiclone treatment group,the PSQI score of the combined treatment group was significantly lower after 2 weeks of the intervention(6.98 vs 8.26,P<0.05).However,there was no significant difference in the mean PSQI score after 1 week of the intervention(9.89 vs 9.15,P=0.124).After the follow-up on week 3,the PSQI score of the combined treatment group remained significantly lower than that of the eszopiclone treatment group(6.12 vs 8.31,P<0.001).The total effective rates of treatment of the combined group and the eszopiclone group were 36.92%vs 35.38%(Z=0.033,P=0.855)after 1 week of the intervention,83.08%vs 58.46%(Z=9.519,P<0.05)after 2 weeks of the intervention,and 83.08%vs 61.54%(Z=7.530,P<0.05)and after the follow-up on week 3,respectively.There was no significant difference in the overall rate of adverse reactions between the combined and eszopiclone treatment groups(21.53%vs 31.8%,P=0.318).CONCLUSION:The combination of Zhumian Tang formula granules with eszopiclone was found to be safe and more effective in improving sleep quality than eszopiclone alone.Traditional Chinese medicine can enhance the effectiveness of Western medicine in the treatment of insomnia. | WANG Yichen WU Shiyi WANG Zhengyan CHANG Wenling XIE Zhihao TANG Xing ZHAO Songmei ZHOU Jing CHEN Zehong WANG Chao() YANG Chunxia | 2024 | Journal of Traditional Chinese Medicine2024,44,1: | 0 |
| 17 | Design strategies for rechargeable aqueous metal-ion batteries显示文摘Rechargeable aqueous metal-ion batteries(AMBs)have attracted extensive scientific and commercial interest due to their potential for cost-effective,highly safe,and scalable stationary energy storage.However,their limited output voltage,inadequate energy density,and poor reversibility of ambiguous electrode reactions in aqueous electrolytes strongly limit their practical viability.This review aims to elucidate the challenges of existing AMBs from the material design to whole device applications.We summarize the emerging electrochemistry,fundamental properties,and key issues in interfacial behaviors of various classes of prevailing AMBs,including aqueous alkali metal-ion batteries and multivalent-ion batteries,and present an appraisal of recent advances for addressing the performance deficiency.Specifically,the progress of zinc-ion batteries is highlighted to provide a ubiquitous guideline for their commercialization in the grid-scale energy storage.Finally,we figure out the dominating general challenges for achieving high-performance AMBs,laying out a perspective for future breakthroughs. | Yang Li Xin Zhao Yifu Gao Yichen Ding Zhichun Si Liubing Dong Dong Zhou Feiyu Kang | 2024 | Science China Chemistry2024,67,1: | 0 |
| 18 | Three-Dimensional M-Shaped Resection for Nasal Alar Hypertrophy in Asian Patients显示文摘Background Nasal alarplasty is an important component of esthetic rhinoplasty in Asians.The two main surgical techniques that correct alar hypertrophy by reducing the height or length often leave external scars and are associated with a high relapse rate.Methods We developed a new technique,called three-dimensional(3D)M-shaped resection,which corrects both the nasal alar height and length and simultaneously minimizes external scarring.We performed this procedure from January 2013 to September 2016 in 49 consecutive female patients diagnosed with saddle nose and nasal alar hypertrophy.Their mean age was 28.6(range,18–40)years.All patients had previously undergone simple rhinoplasty.Nasal alar length and height,nostril length and width,and maximal nose width were analyzed preoperatively and postoperatively from photographs.Results After a mean of 9(range,3–24)months of follow-up,surgery was considered successful in 46 women(94%)with good cosmetic effects.In three patients,nasal alar hypertrophy recurred(6 months postoperatively).There were no early complications such as hematomas,infections,skin or mucosal necrosis,or wound dehiscence.The mean reductions postoperatively were 1.7 mm and 0.9 mm for nasal alar length and height,respectively,1.6 mm for both nostril length and width,and 3.5 mm for nose width.Conclusion The 3D M-shaped resection for nasal alar hypertrophy effectively reduced hypertrophy in 94%of patients for up to 24 months,producing minimal external scars and good cosmetic effects.It is a simple and convenient technique that is an effective and safe option for nasal alarplasty. | Yiqing QIU Qingfang ZHAO Zhixiong CHEN Yichen SHEN Mengmeng LUO Qiaoyun QIU Jinghong XU | 2021 | Chinese Journal Of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery2021,3,1: | 0 |
