| 3 | Comparison of the short-term and long-term outcomes of laparoscopic hysterectomies and of abdominal hysterectomies: a case study of 4,895 patients in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China显示文摘Background: To evaluate the short-term and long-term outcomes after laparoscopic hysterectomy(LH) compared with abdominal hysterectomy(AH) in case of benign gynecological disease. Methods: A multi-center cohort retrospective comparative study of population among 4,895 hysterectomies(3,539 LH vs.1,356 AH) between 2007 and 2013 was involved. Operative time(OT), estimated blood loss(EBL), intra-operative and post-operative complications, passing flatus; days with indwelling catheter, questionnaires covering pelvic floor functions and sexual functions were assessed.Results: The EBL(174.1±157.4 vs. 263.1±183.2 cc, LH and AH groups, respectively), passing flatus(38.7±14.1 vs. 48.1±13.2 hours), days with indwelling catheter(1.5±0.6 vs. 2.2±0.8 days), use of analgesics(6.5% vs. 73.1%), intra-operative complication rate(2.4% vs. 4.1%), post-operative complication rate(2.3% vs. 5.7%), post-operative constipation(12.1% vs. 24.6%), mild and serious stress urinary incontinence(SUI) post-operative(P<0.001; P=0.014), and proportion of Female Sexual Functioning Index(FSFI) total score <26.55 post-operative(P<0.001) of the LH group were significantly less than those of AH group. There wereno significant differences in OT(106.5±34.5 vs. 106.2±40.3 min) between the two groups.Conclusions: LH is a safe and efficient operation for improving patients' long-term quality of life(Qo L), and LH is a cost-effectiveness procedure for treating benign gynecological disease. | 4 | Schisandrol A protects AGEs-induced neuronal cells death by allosterically targeting ATP6V0d1 subunit of V-ATPase显示文摘Diabetes have been shown to cause progressive neuronal injury with pain and numbness via advanced glycation end-products(AGEs)-induced neuronal cell apoptosis;however, the valuable drug targets for diabetic neuropathy have been poorly reported so far. In this study, we discovered a natural small-molecule schisandrol A(SolA) with significant protective effect against AGEs-induced neuronal cell apoptosis. ATP6V0D1, a major subunit of vacuolar-type ATPase(V-ATPase) in lysosome was identified as a crucial cellular target of SolA. Moreover, SolA allosterically mediated ATP6V0D1 conformation via targeting a unique cysteine 335 residue to activate V-ATPase-dependent lysosomal acidification.Interestingly, SolA-induced lysosome pH downregulation resulted in a mitochondrial-lysosomal crosstalk by selectively promoting mitochondrial BH3-only protein BIM degradation, thereby preserving mitochondrial homeostasis and neuronal cells survival. | 5 | Enhancing hydrogen evolution on the basal plane of transition metal dichacolgenide van der Waals heterostructures显示文摘Recent years have seen a surge in the use of low-dimensional transition metal dichacolgenides,such as MoS_(2),as catalysts for the electrochemical hydrogen evolution reaction.In particular,sulfur vacancies in MoS_(2)can activate the inert basal plane,but that requires an unrealistically high defect concentration(~9%)to achieve optimal activity.In this work,we demonstrate by firstprinciples calculations that assembling van der Waals heterostructures can enhance the catalytic activity of MoS_(2)with low concentrations of sulfur vacancies.We integrate MoS_(2)with various two-dimensional nanostructures,including graphene,h-BN,phosphorene,transition metal dichacolgenides,MXenes,and their derivatives,aiming to fine-tune the free energy of atomic hydrogen adsorption.Remarkably,an optimal free energy can be achieved for a low sulfur vacancy concentration of~2.5%in the MoS_(2)/MXene-OH heterostructure,as well as high porosity and tunability.These results demonstrate the potential of combining two-dimensional van der Waals assembly with defect engineering for efficient hydrogen production. | Faling Ling Wei Kang Huirong Jing Wen Zeng Yankun Chen Xiaoqing Liu Yixin Zhang Lin Qi Liang Fang Miao Zhou | 2019 | npj Computational Materials2019,,1: | 2 |

| 7 | Antagonism between coral pathogen Vibrio coralliilyticus and other bacteria in the gastric cavity of scleractinian coral Galaxea fascicularis显示文摘Scleractinian corals host numerous microbial symbionts with different types of interactions. The gastric cavity of scleractinian coral, as a semiclosed subenvironment with distinct chemical characteristics(e.g., dissolved O2, pH, alkalinity, and nutrients), harbors a distinct microbial community and a diverse array of bacteria that can be pathogenic or beneficial. Galaxea fascicularis is one of the dominant massive scleractinian coral species on inshore fringing reefs in the northern South China Sea.Although the abundance of coral-associated bacteria has been investigated in G. fascicularis, less is known about the microorganisms in the gastric cavity. In this study, we specially isolated cultivable bacterial strains from the gastric cavity of G.fascicularis collected from Hainan Island using a noninvasive sampling approach. Among the 101 representative bacterial strains, one Vibrio coralliilyticus strain, SCSIO 43001, was found to be a temperature-dependent opportunistic pathogen of G.fascicularis. The antagonistic activity between the 100 strains and V. coralliilyticus SCSIO 43001 was tested using a modified Burkholder diffusion assay. Our results showed that V. coralliilyticus SCSIO 43001 inhibits the growth of Erythrobacter flavus and Sphingomonas yabuuchiae.
