| 1 | A novel advanced oxidation process to degrade organic pollutants in wastewater:Microwave-activated persulfate oxidation显示文摘This article,for the first time,provides a novel advanced oxidation process based on sulfate radical(SO4. -) to degrade organic pollutants in wastewater:microwave(MW)-activated persulfate oxidation(APO)with or without active carbon(AC).Azo dye acid Orange 7(AO7)is used as a model compound to investigate the high reactivity of MW-APO.It is found that AO7(up to 1000 mg/L)is completely decolorized within 5-7 min under an 800 W MW furnace assisted-APO.In the presence of chloride ion(up to 0.50 mol/L),the decolorization is still 100%completed,though delayed for about 1-2 min.Experiments are made to examine the enhancement by AC.It is exciting to find that the 100%decolorization of AO7(500 mg/L)is achieved within 3 min by MW-APO using 1.0 g/L AC as catalyst,while the degradation effciency maintains at 50%by MW energy without persulfate after about 5 min.Besides the destruction of visible light chromophore band of AO7(484 nm),during MW-APO,two bands in the ultraviolet region(228 nm and 310 nm)are rapidly broken down.The removal of COD is about 83%-95%for 500 mg/L AO7.SO4. -is identified with quenching studies using specific alcohols.Both SO4. -and.OH could degrade AO7,but SO 4 .-plays the dominant role.In a word,MW-APO AC is a new catalytic combustion technology for destruction of organic contamination even for high concentration. | YANG Shiying WANG Ping YANG Xin WEI Guang ZHANG Wenyi SHAN Liang | 2009 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,9: | 41 |
| 2 | Nitrate in shallow groundwater in typical agricultural and forest ecosystems in China,2004-2010显示文摘The nitrate-nitrogen(NO 3-N) concentrations from shallow groundwater wells situated in 29 of the Chinese Ecosystem Research Network field stations,representing typical agroand forest ecosystems,were assessed using monitoring data collected between 2004 and 2010.Results from this assessment permit a national scale assessment of nitrate concentrations in shallow groundwater,and allow linkages between nitrate concentrations in groundwater and broad land use categories to be made.Results indicated that most of the NO 3--N concentrations in groundwater from the agroand forest ecosystems were below the Class 3 drinking water standard stated in the Chinese National Standard:Quality Standard for Ground Water(≤ 20 mg/L).Over the study period,the average NO 3--N concentrations were significantly higher in agro-ecosystems(4.1 ± 0.33 mg/L) than in forest ecosystems(0.5 ± 0.04 mg/L).NO 3-N concentrations were relatively higher(> 10 mg N /L) in 10 of the 43 wells sampled in the agricultural ecosystems.These elevated concentrations occurred mainly in the Ansai,Yucheng,Linze,Fukang,Akesu,and Cele field sites,which were located in arid and semiarid areas where irrigation rates are high.We suggest that improvements in N fertilizer application and irrigation management practices in the arid and semi-arid agricultural ecosystems of China are the key to managing groundwater nitrate concentrations. | Xinyu Zhang Zhiwei Xu Xiaomin Sun Wenyi Dong Deborah Ballantine | 2013 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,5: | 10 |

To facilitate the better and faster development of therapeutic COVID-19 drugs, we present an overview of the global promising therapeutic drugs, including repurposing existing antiviral agents,network-based pharmacology research, antibody development and traditional Chinese medicine. | 9 | Antrodia Cinnamomea ameliorates neointimal formation by inhibiting infl ammatory cell infi ltration through downregulation of adhesion molecule expression in vitro and in vivo显示文摘The increased vascular infl ammation is a key event in the development of atherosclerotic lesions.Antrodia cinnamomea has been shown to promote anticancerogenic activity through decreasing infl ammation.However,the potential role of A.cinnamomea in cardiovascular diseases remains unexplored.Herein,using carotid arterial ligation models,we found that ethanol extract from A.cinnamomea(EEAC)signifi cantly inhibited neointimal hyperplasia in a dose-dependent manner,accompanied with the reduced expression of activated p65 and infl ammatory cytokines.We also show that EEAC ameliorated TNF-α-induced phosphorylation of p65 and pro-infl ammatory cytokine expression in both vascular smooth muscle cells(VSMCs)and macrophages in vitro.Mechanistically,EEAC suppressed expression levels of intercellular adhesion molecule-1(ICAM-1)and vascular cell adhesion molecule(VCAM-1)in VSMCs,which attenuates the ability of monocytes/macrophages adhesion to VSMCs.Furthermore,the expression level of these adhesion molecules and infi ltration of monocytes/macrophages were also decreased in neointimal VSMCs of arteries pretreated with EEAC.Altogether,our results reveal a novel function of A.cinnamomea in suppressing vascular infl ammation upon ligation injury during neointimal formation,likely through inhibition of infl ammatory cell infi ltration via downregulating the adhesion molecules in VSMCs.Thus,A.cinnamomea may offer a pharmacological therapy to slow down disease progression in patients with vascular injury. | Yan Zhang Aijin Ma Hao Xi Ning Chen Rong Wang Chenhui Yang Jinbang Chen Pin Lü Fuping Zheng Wenyi Kang | 2021 | Food Science and Human Wellness2021,10,4: | 4 |

| 12 | Composite denitrification reagent for high concentration ammonia removal by air stripping显示文摘Based on the traditional method of high concentration ammonia removal from wastewater,a mixture mainly consisting of ethyl lactate and acetic acid is used as an aid for ammonia removal by air stripping.The effect of dosage,the depth of air nozzle in water and other conditions for ammonia removal were investigated.The results show that under the conditions that denitrification reagent is in the dosage of 30 mg/L,pH value is 9-11,blowing depth is 400 mm,stripping time is greater than 2.5 h,and the temperature is normal(25°C),the concentration of ammonia nitrogen in wastewater can be reduced from 21006.0 mg/L to 10.6 mg/L. | 13 | Desmoglein 2(DSG2) Is A Receptor of Human Adenovirus Type 55 Causing Adult Severe Community-Acquired Pneumonia显示文摘Human adenovirus type 55(HAdV-B55) is a re-emergent acute respiratory disease pathogen that causes adult communityacquired pneumonia(CAP). Previous studies have shown that the receptor of HAdV-B14, which genome is highly similar with HAdV-B55, is human Desmoglein 2(DSG2). However, whether the receptor of HAdV-B55 is DSG2 is undetermined because there are three amino acid mutations in the fiber gene between HAdV-B14 and HAdV-B55. Here, firstly we found the 3T3 cells, a mouse embryo fibroblast rodent cell line which does not express human DSG2, were able to be infected by HAdV-B55 after transfected with pcDNA3.1-DSG2, while normal 3T3 cells were still unsusceptible to HAdV-B55 infection. Next, A549 cells with h DSG2 knock-down by siRNA were hard to be infected by HAdV-B3/-B14/-B55, while the control siRNA group was still able to be infected by all these types of HAdVs. Finally, immunofluorescence confocal microscopy indicated visually that Cy3-conjugated HAdV-B55 viruses entered A549 cells by binding to DSG2 protein.Therefore, DSG2 is a major receptor of HAdV-B55 causing adult CAP. | 15 | Thermo-Mechanically Coupled Thermo-Elasto-Visco-Plastic Modeling of Thermo-Induced Shape Memory Polyurethane at Finite Deformation显示文摘A series of mono tonic tensile experiments of thermo-induced shape memory polyurethane(TSMPU) at different loading rates were carried out to investigate the interaction between the internal heat production and the mechanical deformation. It is shown that the temperature variation on the surfaces of the specimens due to the internal heat production affects the mechanical properties of TSMPU remarkably. Then, based on irreversible thermodynamics, the Helmholtz free energy was decomposed into three parts, i.e., the instantaneous elastic free energy,visco-plastic free energy and heat free energy. The total deformation gradient was decomposed into the mechanical and thermal parts, and the mechanical deformation gradient was further divided into the elastic and visco-plastic components. The Hencky's logarithmic strain was used in the current configuration. The heat equilibrium equation of internal heat production and heat exchange was derived in accordance with the first and second thermodynamics laws. The temperature of specimens was contributed by the internal heat, production and the ambient temperature simultaneously, and a thermo-mechanic ally coupled thermo-elas to-visco-plastic model was established. The effect of temperature variation of specimens on the mechanical properties of the material was considered in this work. | 16 | Effects of acute cold exposure on oxidative balance and total antioxidant capacity in juvenile Chinese soft-shelled turtle,Pelodiscus sinensis显示文摘Acute cold exposure may disturb the physiological homeostasis of the body in ectotherms.To date,there has been no information on the effects of cold exposure on homeostasis of reactive oxygen species(ROS)or antioxidant defense response in the Chinese soft-shelled turtle,Pelodiscus sinensis.In this study,P.sinensis juveniles were acclimated at 28℃,transferred to 8℃ as cold exposure for 12 h,then moved back to 28℃ rewarming for 24 h.We measured the ROS level and total antioxidant capacity(TAC)in the brain,liver,kidney and spleen at 2 and 12 h cold exposure,and at the end of the rewarming period.Malonaldehyde(MDA)and carbonyl protein were used as markers of oxidative damage.Turtles being maintained simultaneously at 28℃ were used as the control group.Cold exposure did not disturb the ROS balance in all 4 tissues,while rewarming raised the ROS level in the brain and kidney of P.sinensis.Cold exposure and rewarming decreased the TAC in the brain,liver and spleen but did not change the TAC in the kidney.MDA and carbonyl protein levels did not increase during the treatment,indicating no oxidative damage in all 4 tissues of P.sinensis.Our results indicated that extreme cold exposure did not impact the inner oxidative balance of P.sinensis,but more ROS was produced during rewarming.P.sinensis showed good tolerance to the harsh temperature change through effective protection of its antioxidant defense system to oxidative damage.This study provides basic data on the stress biology of P.sinensis. | Wenyi ZHANG Cuijuan NIU Hui JIA Xutong CHEN | 2017 | Integrative Zoology2017,12,5: | 3 |
| 17 | NLRP3 Deficiency Attenuates Secondary Degeneration of Visual Cortical Neurons Following Optic Nerve Injury显示文摘In the visual pathway, optic nerve(ON) injury may cause secondary degeneration of neurons in distal regions, such as the visual cortex. However, the role of the neuroinflammatory response in regulating secondary impairment in the visual cortex after ON injury remains unclear. The NOD-like receptor family pyrin domain containing 3(NLRP3) is an important regulator of neuroinflammation. In this study, we established a mouse model of unilateral ON crush(ONC) and showed that the expression of NLRP3 was significantly increased in the primary visual cortex(V1) as a response to ONC and that the NLRP3 inflammasome was activated in the contralateral V1 1 days–14 days after ONC. Ablation of the NLRP3 gene significantly decreased the trans-neuronal degeneration within 14 days. Visual electrophysiological function was improved in NLRP3-/- mice. | 19 | The origin of Mosuo people as revealed by mtDNA and Y chromosome variation显示文摘The Mosuo, living in the Lugu Lake area in northwest Yunnan Province, China, is the only matriarchal population in China. The Mosuo was officially identified as Naxi nationality although its relationship with Naxi remains controversial. We studied the genetic relationship between the Mosuo and five other ethnic groups currently residing in northwest Yunnan, i.e. Naxi, Tibetan, Bai, Yi and Pumi, by typing the genetic variations in mtDNA HVS1 and 21 Y chromosome markers (13 SNPs & 8 STR markers). We showed that the maternal lineages of the Mosuo bear the strongest resemblance with those found in Naxi while its paternal lineages are more similar to those that are prevalent in Yunnan Tibetan.
