| 1 | Cholesterol transport through the peroxisome-ER membrane contacts tethered by PI(4,5)P2 and extended synaptotagmins显示文摘Most mammalian cells take up cholesterol from low-density lipoproteins(LDLs) via receptor-mediated endocytosis.After reaching lysosomes,LDL-derived cholesterol continues to transport to downstream organelles including the ER for specific structural and functional needs.Peroxisomes are recently found to receive cholesterol from lysosomes through lysosomeperoxisome membrane contacts.However,whether and how cholesterol is conveyed from peroxisomes to the ER remain unknown.Here,by combining high-resolution microscopic analyses and in vitro reconstitution of highly purified organelles or artificial liposomes,we demonstrate that peroxisomes form membrane contacts with the ER through the interaction between peroxisomal PI(4,5)P2 and ER-resident extended synaptotagmin-1,2 and 3(E-Syts).Depletion of peroxisomal PI(4,5)P2 or ESyts markedly decreases peroxisome-ER membrane contacts and induces cholesterol accumulation in lysosomes.Furthermore,we show that cholesterol is delivered from 3H-labeled peroxisomes or PI(4,5)P2-containing liposomes to the ER in vitro,and that the presence of peroxisomes augments cholesterol transfer from lysosomes to the ER.Together,our study reveals a new cholesterol transport pathway along the lysosome-peroxisome-ER membrane contacts in the cell. | Jian Xiao Jie Luo Ao Hu Ting Xiao Meixin Li Zekai Kong Luyi Jiang Zimu Zhou Yacheng Liao Chang Xie Beibei Chu Honghua Miao Boliang Li Xiongjie Shi Bao-Liang Song | 2019 | Science China(Life Sciences)2019,62,9: | 8 |
| 2 | Rapid exhumation of the Tianshan Mountains since the early Miocene:Evidence from combined apatite fission track and(U-Th)/He thermochronology显示文摘Combined apatite fission track(AFT)and(U-Th)/He(AHe)thermochronometries can be of great value for investigating the history of exhumation of orogenic belts.We evaluate the results of such a combined approach through the study on rock samples collected from the Baluntai section in the Tianshan Mountains,northwestern China.Our results show that AFT ages range from^60 to 40 Ma and AHe ages span^40–10 Ma.Based on the strict thermochronological constraints imposed by AHe ages,forward modeling of data derived from AFT analyses provides a well-constrained Cenozoic thermal history.The modeled results reveal a history of relatively slow exhumation during the early Cenozoic times followed by a significantly accelerated exhumation process since the early Miocene with the rate increasing from<30 m/Myr to>100 m/Myr,which is consistent with the inference from the exhumation rates calculated based on both AFT and AHe age data by age-closure temperature and mineral pair methods.Further accelerated exhumation since the late Miocene is recorded by an AHe age(~11 Ma)from the bottom of the Baluntai section.Together with the previous low-temperature thermochronological data from the other parts of the Tianshan Mountains,the rapid exhumation since the early Miocene is regarded as an important exhumation process likely prevailing within the whole range. | Lü HongHua CHANG Yuan WANG Wei ZHOU ZuYi | 2013 | Science China Earth Sciences2013,56,12: | 7 |

| 4 | Photosynthesis of Populus euphratica and its response to elevated CO_2 concentration in an arid environment显示文摘The photosynthetic characterization of Populus euphratica and its response to the elevated carbon dioxide concentration ([CO2]) were analyzed based on its net photosynthetic rate (Pn), stomatal conductance (gs), intercellular CO2 concentration (Ci), transpiration rate (Tr), and water use effciency (WUE) at different groundwater depths measured by a portable gas exchange system (LI-6400) in the lower reaches of the Tarim River. The results showed that the elevation of [CO2] decreased the gs, and increased the Pn, Ci and WUE of P. euphratica. However, the effects of the elevated [CO2] on gs, Pn, Ci and WUE varied considerably with groundwater depth. The response of photosynthesis to rising [CO2] was stronger at the greater groundwater depth (more than 6 m) than that at the shallower groundwater depth (less than 6 m). The critical groundwater depth required to maintain the normal survival of P. euphratica was less than 6 m. | 5 | Variation of airborne quartz in air of Beijing during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Economic Leaders' Meeting显示文摘Quartz particles are a toxic component of airborne paniculate matter(PM).Quartz concentrations were analyzed by X-ray diffraction in eighty-seven airborne PM samples collected from three locations in Beijing before,during,and after the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation(APEC) Leaders' Meeting in 2014.The results showed that the mean concentrations of quartz in PM samples from the two urban sites were considerably higher than those from the rural site.The quartz concentrations in samples collected after the APEC meeting,when the pollution restriction lever was lifted,were higher than those in the samples collected before or during the APEC meeting.The quartz concentrations ranged from 0.97 to 13.2 μg/m^3,which were among the highest values amid those reported from other countries.The highest quartz concentration exceeded the Californian Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment reference exposure level and was close to the occupational threshold limit values for occupational settings.Moreover,a correlation analysis showed that quartz concentrations were positively correlated with concentrations of pollution parameters PM_(10),PM_(2.5),SO_2 and NO_x,but were negatively correlated with O_3 concentration.The results suggest that the airborne quartz particles may potentially pose health risks to the general population of Beijing. | Gang Li Yingming Li Hongxing Zhang Honghua Li Guanjun Gao Qian Zhou Yuan Gao Wenjuan Li Huizhong Sun Xiaoke Wang Qinghua Zhang | 2016 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,1: | 1 |

| 10 | Water transport and water use efficiency differ among Populus euphratica Oliv. saplings exposed to saline water irrigation显示文摘Populus euphratica Oliv.is a unique woody tree that can be utilized for vegetation restoration in arid and semi-arid areas.The effects of saline water irrigation(0.00, 2.93, 8.78 and 17.55 g/L NaCl solutions) on water transport and water use efficiency(WUE) of P.euphratica saplings were researched for improving the survival of P.euphratica saplings and vegetation restoration in arid and semi-arid areas of Xinjiang, China in 2011.Results showed that hydraulic conductivity and vulnerability to cavitation of P.euphratica saplings were more sensitive in root xylem than in twig xylem when irrigation water salinity increased.Irrigation with saline water concentration less than 8.78 g/L did not affect the growth of P.euphratica saplings, under which they maintained normal water transport in twig xylem through adjustment of anatomical structure of vessels and kept higher WUE and photosynthesis in leaves through adjustment of stomata.However, irrigation with saline water concentration up to 17.55 g/L severely inhibited the photochemical process and WUE of P.euphratica saplings, resulting in severe water-deficit in leaves and a sharp reduction in water transport in xylem.Thus, it is feasible to irrigate P.euphratica forest by using saline groundwater for improving the survival of P.euphratica saplings and vegetation restoration in arid and semi-arid areas of Xinjiang, China. | ZHOU Honghua CHEN Yaning ZHU Chenggang YANG Yuhai YE Zhaoxia | 2019 | Journal of Arid Land2019,11,6: | 0 |

Experimental results indicate that after the repeated melting of the ingots at 1300 and 1580 K, the glass transition temperature Tg in.eases from 686.4 to 690.7 and 696.8 K and the onset temperature of crystallization Tx from 757.9 to 758.6 and 763.4 K, respectively, indicating that the thermal stability becomes higher after the repeated arc melting of the mother ingot and that it is more effective at higher temperature.
