Celulose Paper-based Strapping Products for Green/Sustainable Packaging Needs显示文摘Paper products such as corrugated paperboards are the most common green packaging materials, which are renewable, sustainable, recyclable and biodegradable. However, the plastic or metal straps used to secure the carton boxes are not so green. At the end of packaging, the carton boxes can be recycled, but the plastic/metal straps have to be sorted out for disposal separately. This review focuses on: 1) the global trend of green packaging;2) conventional plastic/metal strapping materials for carton boxes;3) conventional market pulp baling with steel wire as the tying materials;4) cellulose fiber-based materials for strapping market pulp bales and carton boxes. New generation of cellulose paper straps are being developed for more challenging applications with superior strength properties and repulpability. | Zhibin He Amit Chowdhury Li Tong Mike Reynolds Yonghao Ni | 2019 | Paper And Biomaterials2019,4,3: | 11

Integrated Forest Biorefinery:Value-added Utilization of Dissolved Organics in the Prehydrolysis Liquor of Prehydrolysis Kraft (PHK) Dissolving Pulp Production Process显示文摘The concept of integrated forest biorefineries(IFBRs) has gained significant interest. The prehydrolysis kraft(PHK) dissolving pulp production process is a suitable example of IFBR concept for the production of dissolving pulp and utilization of dissolved hemicelluloses, acetic acid, and lignin in the prehydrolysis liquor(PHL).This review paper highlights recent progress related to the recovery and utilization of dissolved organics(e.g.,hemicelluloses,acetic acid, and lignin) in the PHL of the PHK dissolving pulp production process.Integrated multi-step recovery and separation processes have been developed for this purpose to accommodate the complex nature of the PHL.Potential products, including xylan-based compounds, acetic acid, and lignin, are also discussed in detail. | Bo Yang BaoBin Wang GuanHua Wang ZhiBin He YongHao Ni | 2018 | Paper And Biomaterials2018,3,3: | 6
Potential of cellulose-based materials for lithium-ion batteries(LIB)separator membranes显示文摘Lithium-ion batteries(LIB)are the dominant power sources for many consumer electronics, and they can also be large-scale power sources/energy storage devices, which can be credited to their advantages:high efficiency, high energy density, long cycling life. The separator membrane is a critical component of LIB.It is an electron insulator between the cathode and anode electrodes in order to prevent electrical short circuits, and it also functions as an ionic conductor to let ions pass freely in the charging and discharging cycles. The critical parameters to meet high quality separator membranes include:high dimensional/thermal/chemical stability, good wettability towards electrolyte, high mechanical strength, appropriate porosity and pore size distribution.Conventionally, plastic materials, such as polyolefin, are the main materials for manufacturing LIB separator membrane. However, polyolefin separator s have a number of drawbacks such as poor thermal stability and wettability.Cellulosic materials have unique properties, and can meet the quality specifications of LIB separator membranes;in addition, they are abundant, low cost, biodegradable, renewable and sustainable. Therefore, cellulose and its related materials can be promising alternatives to replace polyolefin for LIB separator membranes. In this short review, relevant literature on the topic was reviewed and further development/improvement of cellulose-based LIB separator membrane will be discussed. | Dong Cheng Xue Yang Zhibin He Yonghao Ni | 2016 | Journal of Bioresources and Bioproducts2016,1,1: | 2
Molded fiber and pulp products as green and sustainable alternatives to plastics:A mini review显示文摘There are significant incentives/pressures on decreasing the use of plastics and their related prod-ucts in the packaging industry, correspondingly, strong demands are emerging for clean,renew-able,recyclable/biodegradable packaging products. In this context, molded fiber/pulp products have attracted increasing attention, due to their green/sustainable advantages, simply because the raw materials used are plant-based and/or recycled fibers. Many companies have switched their packing practices from plastics to more environmentally friendly products, such as molded fiber products, which already have had and will continue to have obvious effect on packaging industries. This paper initially provides an overview on the general concept of molded pulp prod-ucts,and further summarizes the different types of molded fiber products in terms of natural fiber sources, manufacturing processes, current and emerging applications as well as the environmental sustainability of molded products. | Yanling Zhang Chao Duan Swetha Kumari Bokka Zhibin He Yonghao Ni | 2022 | Journal of Bioresources and Bioproducts2022,7,1: | 2
Association of long non-coding RNA HOTAIR and MALAT1 variants with cervical cancer risk in Han Chinese women显示文摘Long noncoding RNA(lncRNA) HOTAIR and MALAT1 are implicated in the development of multiple cancers. Genetic variants within HOTAIR and MALAT1 may affect the gene expression, thereby modifying genetic susceptibility to cervical cancer. A case-control study was designed, including 1 486 cervical cancer patients and 1 536 healthy controls. Based on RegulomeDB database, 11 SNPs were selected and genotyped by using Sequenom’s Mass ARRAY. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were used to calculate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(CI). We found that the A allele of rs35643724 in HOTAIR was associated with increased risk of cervical cancer, while the C allele of rs1787666 in MALAT1 was associated with decreased risk. Compared to individuals with 0–1 unfavorable allele, those with 3–4 unfavorable alleles showed18% increased odds of having cervical cancer. Our findings suggest that HOTAIR rs35643724 and MALAT1 rs1787666 might represent potential biomarkers for cervical cancer susceptibility. | Meiqun Jia Lulu Ren Lingmin Hu Hongxia Ma Guangfu Jin Dake Li Ni Li Zhibin Hu Dong Hang | 2019 | The Journal of Biomedical Research2019,33,5: | 2

Synthesis of a Kind of Temperature-responsive Cell Culture Surface for Corneal Sheet显示文摘In this study, acrylic acid(AA) and 4-azidoaniline were used to modify poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)(NIPAAm) in order to fabricate temperature-responsive surface for corneal epithelia cell adhesion and detachment.First,NIPAAm was copolymerized with acrylic acid. Then, the copolymer was coupled with azidoaniline to synthesize AzPhPIA,derivative of p(NIPAAm-co-AA),which possesses both thermo-and photo-sensitivities.Second,the synthesized copolymer was characterized by high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC),Fourier transform infrared(FTIR) and a CHN analyzer. The thermo-sensitivity was characterized by temperature reducing experiment, contact angle measurement and low critical solution temperature(LCST) testing.Third, the derivatized copolymer was immobilized by photolithography on a polystyrene plate, and then the surface characterization of AzPhPIA-coated polystyrene plate(PSt) was measured by electron spectroscopy for chemical analysis(ESCA).The thermo-sensitivity and cytocompatibility of the AzPhPIA-coated PSt were investigated by corneal epithelial cells culture. The results revealed that the AzPhPIA-coated PSt exhibited good cytocompatibility and cell detachability when temperature decreased. | Yanqing Guan Zhibin Li Xin Wang Xiaoli Ni Aini Yang Junming Liu | 2010 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2010,26,12: | 1
Gene amplification-driven RNA methyltransferase KIAA1429 promotes tumorigenesis by regulating BTG2 via m6A-YTHDF2-dependent in lung adenocarcinoma显示文摘Background:Epigenetic alterations have been shown to contribute immensely to human carcinogenesis.Dynamic and reversible N6-methyladenosine(m6A)RNA modification regulates gene expression and cell fate. However, the reasons for activation of KIAA1429(also known as VIRMA,an RNA methyltransferase)and its underlying mechanism in lung adenocarcinoma(LUAD)remain largely unexplored. In this study,we aimed to clarify the oncogenic role of KIAA1429 in the tumorigenesis of LUAD.Methods:Whole-genome sequencing and transcriptome sequencing of LUAD data were used to analyze the gene amplification of RNA methyltransferase. The in vitro and in vivo functions of KIAA1429 were investigated.Transcriptome sequencing, methylated RNA immunoprecipitation sequencing(MeRIP-seq),m6A dot blot assays and RNA immunoprecipitation(RIP)were performed to confirm the modified gene mediated by KIAA1429.RNA stability assays were used to detect the half-life of the target gene. Results:Copy number amplification drove higher expression of KIAA1429 in LUAD,whichwas correlatedwith poor overall survival.Manipulating the expression of KIAA1429 could regulate the proliferation and metastasis of LUAD.Mechanistically, the target genes of KIAA1429-mediated m6A modification were confirmed by transcriptome sequencing and MeRIP-seq assays. We also revealed that KIAA1429 could regulate BTG2 expression in an m6A-dependent manner.Knockdown of KIAA1429 significantly decreased the m6A levels of BTG2 mRNA,leading to enhanced YTH m6A RNA binding protein 2(YTHDF2,the m6A“reader”)-dependent BTG2 mRNA stability and promoted the expression of BTG2;thus,participating in the tumorigenesis of LUAD.Conclusions:Our data revealed the activation mechanism and important role of KIAA1429 in LUAD tumorigenesis, which may provide a novel view on the targeted molecular therapy of LUAD. | Chang Zhang Qi Sun Xu Zhang Na Qin Zhening Pu Yayun Gu Caiwang Yan Meng Zhu Juncheng Dai ChengWang Ni Li Guangfu Jin Hongxia Ma Zhibin Hu Erbao Zhang Fengwei Tan Hongbing Shen | 2022 | Cancer Communications2022,42,7: | 1

Nanocellulosic materials:research/production activities and applications显示文摘Nanocelluloses have emerged as novel materials and attracted significant interest from both academia and industry.Nanocelluloses can now be produced at pilot plant and pre-commercial scales, and even at commercial scales in some regions in the world.Successful commercial applications of nanocelluloses have entered commercial stages though their full potentials are yet to be developed. In this short communication, the applications of these nanomaterials are high-lighted,including high-volume applications(e.g.,paper,textiles),high-value applications(e.g.,aerogels and structure materials for aerospace),and novel/emerging applications(e.g.,organic light emitting diodes, photonic films).Close collaboration between industries and the academic world would facilitate the development of commercial markets for using nanocelluloses in existing/new areas. | Xingye An Dong Cheng Jing Shen Qingming Jia Zhibin He Linqiang Zheng Avik Khan Bo Sun Bitao Xiong Yonghao Ni | 2017 | Journal of Bioresources and Bioproducts2017,2,2: | 0
Towards greener and more sustainable cellulose-based hand sanitizer products显示文摘More than 85%of the currently marketed hand sanitizer products are alcohol-based products, and the alcohol content is usually about 70%in order to be effective. The high alcohol content can cause dehydration, which is undesirable for sensitive skin, particularly for children. This creates opportunities for the development of innovative hand sanitizer products that are free of alcohol and have green nano-cellulose-based materials as carriers for the antibacterial agents.Good skin affinity and biocompatibility are the special features of the newly developed products, which would satisfy the need of the general public for green products. | Bo Sun Min Zhang Zhibin He Linqiang Zheng Jing Shen Yonghao Ni | 2017 | Journal of Bioresources and Bioproducts2017,2,2: | 0
Sources, production and commercial applications of fungal chitosan:A review显示文摘Chitosan is a type of biopolymer that can be obtained from animal/marine sources, and it can also be extracted or produced from agriculture waste products like mushroom or different fungal sources after the chitin deacetylation.Depending on the size of mushroom farm, the amount of waste ranges between 5%and 20%of the production volume. The cell wall of the filamentous fungi,a good source of chitin, offers an easy way to extract chitin. The physicochemical character-istics such as molecular weight and degree of deacetylation of fungal chitosan can be controlled compared to chitosan obtained from crustacean sources.Fungal sourced chitosan can be used in food, pharmaceutical or biomedical applications for different applications, for example,as an antimicrobial agent, coating material, water purification or bio-pesticide.This review mainly fo-cused on the extraction of chitin from mushroom or different fungal sources and also showed some applications of commercial chitosan products. | Tanzina Huq Avik Khan David Brown Natasha Dhayagude Zhibin He Yonghao Ni | 2022 | Journal of Bioresources and Bioproducts2022,7,2: | 0
