The natural host of 2019-nCoV may be the bat Rhinolophus affinis as 2019-nCoV showed 96.2% of whole-genome identity to Bat Co V Ra TG13. The person-to-person transmission routes of 2019-nCoV included direct transmission, such as cough, sneeze, droplet inhalation transmission, and contact transmission, such as the contact with oral, nasal, and eye mucous membranes. 2019-nCoV can also be transmitted through the saliva, and the fecal–oral routes may also be a potential person-to-person transmission route. The participants in dental practice expose to tremendous risk of 2019-nCoV infection due to the face-to-face communication and the exposure to saliva, blood, and other body fluids, and the handling of sharp instruments. Dental professionals play great roles in preventing the transmission of2019-nCoV. | 3 | Acute cerebrovascular disease following COVID-19: a single center, retrospective, observational study显示文摘Background and purpose COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).Apart from respiratory complications,acute cerebrovascular disease(CVD)has been observed in some patients with COVID-19.Therefore,we described the clinical characteristics,laboratory features,treatment and outcomes of CVD complicating SARS-CoV-2 infection.Materials and methods Demographic and clinical characteristics,laboratory findings,treatments and clinical outcomes were collected and analysed.Clinical characteristics and laboratory findings of patients with COVID-19 with or without new-onset CVD were compared.Results Of 219 patients with COVID-19,10(4.6%)developed acute ischaemic stroke and 1(0.5%)had intracerebral haemorrhage.COVID-19 with new onset of CVD were significantly older(75.7±10.8 years vs 52.1±15.3 years,p<0.001),more likely to present with severe COVID-19(81.8%vs 39.9%,p<0.01)and were more likely to have cardiovascular risk factors,including hypertension,diabetes and medical history of CVD(all p<0.05).In addition,they were more likely to have increased inflammatory response and hypercoagulable state as reflected in C reactive protein(51.1(1.3-127.9)vs 12.1(0.1-212.0)mg/L,p<0.05)and D-dimer(6.9(0.3-20.0)vs 0.5(0.1-20.0)mg/L,p<0.001).Of 10 patients with ischemic stroke;6 received antiplatelet treatment with aspirin or clopidogrel;and 3 of them died.The other four patients received anticoagulant treatment with enoxaparin and 2 of them died.As of 24 March 2020,six patients with CVD died(54.5%).Conclusion Acute CVD is not uncommon in COVID-19.Our findings suggest that older patients with risk factors are more likely to develop CVD.The development of CVD is an important negative prognostic factor which requires further study to identify optimal management strategy to combat the COVID-19 outbreak. | Yanan Li Man Li Mengdie Wang Yifan Zhou Jiang Chang Ying Xian David Wang Ling Mao Huijuan Jin Bo Hu | 2020 | Stroke & Vascular Neurology2020,5,3: | 22 |

| 6 | Ethylene Emission as a Potential Indicator of Fuji Apple Flavor Quality Evaluation Under Low Temperature显示文摘Fuji apple(Malus×domestica Borkh.)is a popular fruit cultivar and occupies an important position in the fruit market due to its excellent flavor and storage quality.Ethylene emission can induce respiration,which would reduce postharvest quality and increase storage losses.In order to maintain fruit quality and extend shelf life,apples are usually stored in a low-temperature environment after harvest to reduce the formation of ethylene.Volatile aroma components are regarded as one of the most important aspects of flavor quality and a key factor for apple quality grading and customer satisfaction.Ethylene emission and its relationship with volatile aromas during low temperature,however,have not been determined.In this study,the dynamic changes of volatile aroma compounds of Fuji apples stored at 4°C were detected and analyzed for 42 days.The variation of ethylene released from Fuji apple was studied correspondingly.The results showed that ethyl butyrate,ethyl caproate,ethyl 2-methylbutyrate and 2-methylbutyl acetate were the main aroma components of Fuji apple.The change in ethylene emission and the normalized peak area of volatile aroma compounds exhibited a similar tendency that increased significantly from the 3rd day to the peak on the 14th day and then decreased;there was a positive linear correlation between them with a correlation coefficient of 0.79(P<0.05).Therefore,ethylene release can be used as a potential indicator for evaluation of volatile aroma compounds in apples.Using ethylene emission as an indicator could reduce the difficulty and complexity of volatile aroma evaluation,which could be a new non-destructive inspection choice for apple flavor quality assessment. | Weiyan Qi Haijing Wang Zhen Zhou Peng Yang Wenbin Wu Zhemin Li Xian Li | 2020 | Horticultural Plant Journal2020,6,4: | 18 |

| 8 | Effect of Kuanxiong Aerosol(宽胸气雾剂)on Patients with Angina Pectoris:A Non-inferiority Multi-center Randomized Controlled Trial显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the effect and safety of Kuanxiong Aerosol(宽胸气雾剂, KA) on patients with angina pectoris. Methods: Block randomization was performed to randomly allocate 750 patients into KA(376 cases) and control groups(374 cases). During an angina attack, the KA group received 3 consecutive sublingual sprays of KA(0.6 m L per spray). The control group received 1 sublingual nitroglycerin tablet(NT, 0.5 mg/tablet). Log-rank tests and Kaplan-Meier estimations were used to estimate the angina remission rates at 6 time-points after treatment(1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and >5 min). Logistic regression analysis was performed to observe the factors influencing the rate of effective angina remission, and the remission rates and incidences of adverse reactions were compared for different Canadian Cardiovascular Society(CCS) classes of angina. Results: The 5-min remission rates in the KA and control groups were not significantly different(94.41% vs. 90.64%, P>0.05). The angina CCS class significantly influenced the rate of remission (95% confidence interval = 0.483–0.740, P<0.01). In the CCS subgroup analysis, the 3-and 5-min remission rates for KA and NT were similar in the CCSⅠ and Ⅳ subgroups(P>0.05), while they were significantly better for KA in the CCSⅡ and Ⅲ subgroups(P<0.05 or P<0.01). Furthermore, the incidence of adverse reactions was significantly lower in the KA group than in the control group for the CCSⅡ and Ⅲ subgroups(9.29% vs. 26.22%, 10.13% vs. 20.88%, P<0.05 or P<0.01). Conclusions: KA is not inferior to NT in the remission of angina. | 9 | Aspirin alleviates endothelial gap junction dysfunction through inhibition of NLRP3inflammasome activation in LPS-induced vascular injury显示文摘The loss of endothelial connective integrity and endothelial barrier dysfunction can lead to increased vascular injury, which is related to the activation of endothelial inflammasomes. There are evidences that low concentrations of aspirin can effectively prevent cardiovascular diseases. We hypothesized that low-dose aspirin could ameliorate endothelial injury by inhibiting the activation of NLRP3 inflammasomes and ultimately prevent cardiovascular diseases. Microvascular endothelial cells were stimulated by lipopolysaccharide(2 μg/mL) and administrated by 0.1–2 mmol/L aspirin. The wild type mice were stimulated with LPS(100 μg/kg/day), and 1 h later treated with aspirin(12.5, 62.5, or125 mg/kg/day) and dexamethasone(0.0182 mg/kg/day) for 7 days. Plasma and heart were harvested for measurement of ELISA and immunofluorescence analyses. We found that aspirin could inhibit NLRP3 inflammasome formation and activation in vitro in dose-dependent manner and has correlation between the NLRP3 inflammasome and the ROS/TXNIP pathway. We also found that low-concentration aspirin could inhibit the formation and activation of NLRP3 inflammasome and restore the expression of theendothelial tight junction protein zonula occludens-1/2(ZO1/2). | 10 | Inhibitory effect of oxymatrine on hepatocyte apoptosis via TLR4/PI3K/Akt/GSK-3β signaling pathway显示文摘AIM To evaluate the effect of oxymatrine(OMT) on hepatocyte apoptosis in rats with lipopolysaccharide(LPS)/D-galactosamine(D-Gal N)-induced acute liver failure(ALF). METHODS LPS/D-Gal N was used to establish a model of ALF in rats. To evaluate the effect of OMT, we assessed apoptosis by transmission electron microscopy, and the pathological changes in the liver by light microscopy with hematoxylin and eosin staining. An automated biochemical analyzer was used to measure serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase(AST). Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was used to determine the levels of tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α and interleukin(IL)-1β. Western blotting was used to detect protein levels in liver tissues. Streptavidin peroxidase immunohistochemistry was used to observe expression of Toll-like receptor(TLR)4, active caspase-3, Bax and Bcl-2. RESULTS All rats in the normal control and OMT-pretreated groups survived. The mortality rate in the model group was 30%. OMT preconditioning down-regulated apoptosis of hepatocytes and ameliorated pathological changes in liver tissue. The levels of AST, ALT, TNF-α and IL-1β in the model group increased significantly, and were significantly reduced by OMT pretreatment. OMT pretreatment down-regulated expression of TLR4 and active caspase-3 and the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio, and upregulated expression of P-AktSer473(Akt phosphorylated at serine 473) and P-GSK3βSer9(glycogen synthase kinase 3β phosphorylated at serine 9) induced by LPS/D-Gal N. | 15 | Transcriptomic landscape regulated by the 14 types of bone morphogenetic proteins(BMPs)in lineage commitment and differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)显示文摘Mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)are ubiquitously-existing multipotent progenitors that can self-renew and differentiate into multiple lineages including osteocytes,chondrocytes,adipocytes,tenocytes and myocytes.MSCs represent one of the most commonly-used adult progenitors and serve as excellent progenitor cell models for investigating lineagespecific differentiation regulated by various cellular signaling pathways,such as bone morphogenetic proteins(BMPs).As members of TGFb superfamily,BMPs play diverse and important roles in development and adult tissues.At least 14 BMPs have been identified in mammals.Different BMPs exert distinct but overlapping biological functions.Through a comprehensive analysis of 14 BMPs in MSCs,we demonstrated that BMP9 is one of the most potent BMPs in inducing osteogenic differentiation of MSCs.Nonetheless,a global mechanistic view of BMP signaling in regulating the proliferation and differentiation of MSCs remains to be fully elucidated.Here,we conducted a comprehensive transcriptomic profiling in the MSCs stimulated by 14 types of BMPs.Hierarchical clustering analysis classifies 14 BMPs into three subclusters:an osteo/chondrogenic/adipogenic cluster,a tenogenic cluster,and BMP3 cluster.We also demonstrate that six BMPs(e.g.,BMP2,BMP3,BMP4,BMP7,BMP8,and BMP9)can induce ISmads effectively,while BMP2,BMP3,BMP4,BMP7,and BMP11 up-regulate Smad-independent MAP kinase pathway.Furthermore,we show that many BMPs can upregulate the expression of the signal mediators of Wnt,Notch and PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathways.While the reported transcriptomic changes need to be further validated,our expression profiling represents the first-of-its-kind to interrogate a comprehensive transcriptomic landscape regulated by the 14 types of BMPs in MSCs. | Linghuan Zhang Qing Luo Yi Shu Zongyue Zeng Bo Huang Yixiao Feng Bo Zhang Xi Wang Yan Lei Zhenyu Ye Ling Zhao Daigui Cao Lijuan Yang Xian Chen Bin Liu William Wagstaff Russell R*Reid Hue H*Luu Rex C*Haydon Michael J*Lee Jennifer Moriatis Wolf Zhou Fu Tong-Chuan He Quan Kang | 2019 | Genes & Diseases2019,6,3: | 11 |
| 16 | Economic burden and its associated factors of hospitalized patients infected with A (H7N9) virus: a retrospective study in Eastern China, 2013–2014显示文摘Background:H7N9 continues to cause human infections and remains a pandemic concern.Understanding the economic impacts of this novel disease is important for making decisions on health resource allocation,including infectious disease prevention and control investment.However,there are limited data on such impacts.Methods:Hospitalized laboratory-confirmed H7N9 patients or their families in Jiangsu Province of China were interviewed.Patients’direct medical costs of hospitalization were derived from their hospital bills.A generalized linear model was employed to estimate the mean direct medical costs of patients with different characteristics.Results:The mean direct cost of hospitalization for H7N9 was estimated to be¥71060(95%CI,48180–104820),i.e.,US$10996(95%CI,7455–16220),and was¥12060(US$1861),¥136120(US$21001)and¥218610(US$33728)for those who had mild or severe symptoms or who died,respectively.The principal components of the total fees differed among patients with different disease severity,although medication fees were always the largest contributors.Disease severity,proportion of reimbursement and family member monthly average income were identified as the key factors that contributed to a patient’s direct medical cost of hospitalization.Conclusions:The direct medical costs of hospitalized patients with H7N9 are significant,and far surpass the annual per capita income of Jiangsu Province,China.The influencing factors identified should be taken into account when developing related health insurance policies and making health resource allocation.Trial registration:Not applicable.This is a survey study with no health care intervention implemented on human participants. | Xiang Huo Li-Ling Chen Lei Hong Lun-Hui Xiang Fen-Yang Tang Shan-Hui Chen Qiang Gao Cong Chen Qi-gang Dai Chuan-Wu Sun Ke Xu Wen-Jun Dai Xian Qi Chang-Cheng Li Hui-Yan Yu Yin Zhou Hao-Di Huang Xing-Yang Pan Chang-sha Xu Ming-Hao Zhou Chang-Jun Bao | 2016 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2016,5,1: | 10 |

The dynamic oral microbiota cooperates with the host to reflect the information and status of immunity and metabolism through two-way communication along the oral cavity and the systemic organs. The oral cavity is one of the most important interaction windows between the human body and the environment.The microenvironment at different sites in the oral cavity has different microbial compositions and is regulated by complex signaling,hosts, and external environmental factors. These processes may affect or reflect human health because certain health states seem to be related to the composition of oral bacteria, and the destruction of the microbial community is related to systemic diseases. In this review, we discussed emerging and exciting evidence of complex and important connections between the oral microbes and multiple human systemic diseases, and the possible contribution of the oral microorganisms to systemic diseases. This review aims to enhance the interest to oral microbes on the whole human body, and also improve clinician’s understanding of the role of oral microbes in systemic diseases. The situation raises many urgent questions and global public health concerns. In this study, epidemiologic characteristics of infected human cases in Jiangsu province were analyzed and risk assessment was undertaken based on the information available. Briefly, it is highly unlikely that a pandemic of human infection with avian influenza A (H7N9) virus will happen in Jiangsu Province in the near future.
