| 1 | Adsorption of heavy metal ions from aqueous solution by carboxylated cellulose nanocrystals显示文摘A novel nanoadsorbent for the removal of heavy metal ions is reported.Cotton was first hydrolyzed to obtain cellulose nanocrystals(CNCs).CNCs were then chemically modified with succinic anhydride to obtain SCNCs.The sodic nanoadsorbent(NaSCNCs) was further prepared by treatment of SCNCs with saturated NaHCO 3 aqueous solution.Batch experiments were carried out with SCNCs and NaSCNCs for the removal of Pb 2+ and Cd 2+.The effects of contact time,pH,initial adsorption concentration,coexisting ions and the regeneration performance were investigated.Kinetic studies showed that the adsorption equilibrium time of Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ was reached within 150 min on SCNCs and 5 min on NaSCNCs.The adsorption capacities of Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ on SCNCs and NaSCNCs increased with increasing pH.The adsorption isotherm was well fitted by the Langmuir model.The maximum adsorption capacities of SCNCs and NaSCNCs for Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ were 367.6 mg/g,259.7 mg/g and 465.1 mg/g,344.8 mg/g,respectively.SCNCs and NaSCNCs showed high selectivity and interference resistance from coexisting ions for the adsorption of Pb 2+.NaSCNCs could be efficiently regenerated with a mild saturated NaCl solution with no loss of capacity after two recycles.The adsorption mechanisms of SCNCs and NaSCNCs were discussed. | Xiaolin Yu Shengrui Tong Maofa Ge Lingyan Wu Junchao Zuo Changyan Cao Weiguo Song | 2013 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,5: | 29 |
| 2 | Polyamine Accumulation in Transgenic Tomato Enhances the Tolerance to High Temperature Stress显示文摘Polyamines play an important role in plant response to abiotic stress.S-adenosyl-l-methionine decarboxylase(SAMDC) is one of the key regulatory enzymes in the biosynthesis of polyamines.In order to better understand the effect of regulation of polyamine biosynthesis on the tolerance of high-temperature stress in tomato,SAMDC cDNA isolated from Saccharomyces cerevisiae was introduced into tomato genome by means of Agrobacterium tumefaciens through leaf disc transformation.Transgene and expression was confirmed by Southern and Northern blot analyses,respectively.Transgenic plants expressing yeast SAMDC produced 1.7-to 2.4-fold higher levels of spermidine and spermine than wild-type plants under high temperature stress,and enhanced antioxidant enzyme activity and the protection of membrane lipid peroxidation was also observed.This subsequently improved the efficiency of CO2 assimilation and protected the plants from high temperature stress,which indicated that the transgenic tomato presented an enhanced tolerance to high temperature stress(38℃) compared with wild-type plants.Our results demonstrated clearly that increasing polyamine biosynthesis in plants may be a means of creating high temperature-tolerant germplasm. | Lin Cheng Yijing Zou Shuli Ding Jiajing Zhang Xiaolin Yu Jiashu Cao Gang Lu | 2009 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2009,51,5: | 16 |
| 3 | Modeling tree root diameter and biomass by ground-penetrating radar显示文摘Roots play a key role in ecosystem functioning as they transfer water and nutrients from soil to plants.Traditional methods for measuring roots are labor-intensive and destructive in nature,which limits quantitative and repeatable assessments in longterm research.Ground-penetrating radar(GPR) provides a non-destructive method to measure plant roots.Based on the superiority of GPR with 2 GHz frequency,we developed a new,practical method to estimate root biomass.First,average root matter density was measured by collecting a small number of root samples.Second,under controlled,experimental conditions in a sandy area,a root diameter estimation model base on GPR was developed from which root diameter was estimated.Third,root volume was calculated using the estimated root diameter and assuming the shape of roots to be cylindrical.Finally,root biomass was estimated by averaging root matter density and root volume.Results of this study suggest the following:(1) the density of coarse roots with diameters greater than 0.5 cm is relatively uniform;(2) a new wave shape parameter,ΔT,extracted from profile data of 2 GHz frequency antenna is independent of root depth,thus enabling the construction of a root diameter estimation model with high accuracy;and(3) results of a field experiment demonstrated the GPR-based method to be feasible and effective in estimating biomass of coarse roots.These findings are helpful for improving GPR-based root diameter and biomass estimation models and suggest the potential of GPR data in studying root systems. | CUI XiHong CHEN Jin SHEN JinSong CAO Xin CHEN XueHong ZHU XiaoLin | 2011 | Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,5: | 8 |

| 5 | Dynamic separation of Xe and Kr by metal-organic framework and covalent-organic materials: a comparison with activated charcoal显示文摘We systematically investigate dynamic separation of Xe and Kr at room temperature using four representative porous materials(Cu-BTC, ZIF-8, COP-4 and activated carbon(AC)). Results indicate that among the four materials, Cu-BTC not only shows the highest retention volume per gram(V_g=788 m L g^(-1), which is 1.8 times of activated carbon(436 m L g^(-1))) under flowing condition, but also can separate 350 ppm Xe from 35 ppm Kr mixture in air with a high Xe/Kr selectivity of 8.6 at room temperature and 200 k Pa, due to its suitable pore morphology, open metal sites, small side pockets in the framework. | 11 | Antioxidant systems of aquatic macrophytes in three life forms:a case study in Lake Erhai,China显示文摘Antioxidant systems are vital in life activities of macrophytes. Species with diff erent life forms need to cope with distinct environments by modifying physiological characters, especially antioxidant systems. In order to find diff erences among life forms and consequence of lake eutrophication, we studied three antioxidant enzymes activity (superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate oxidase (APX) and catalase (CAT)) and total soluble phenolics (TP) content in leaves of 26 macrophyte species in September 2013 in Lake Erhai, China. We found that antioxidation varied accordingly with life forms. The activities of SOD and APX in emergent macrophytes (EM) and floating-leaved macrophytes (FM) were much lower than those of submerged macrophytes (SM). On the contrary, TP content was much higher in EM and FM species. There was a negative correlation between TP and antioxidant enzyme activities (CAT and APX). The results suggested that EM and FM species rely on phenolics might to adapt to adverse environments (higher herbivores predation pressure and UV radiation intensity), while SM species more rely on antioxidant enzymes possibly due to lower demand for antioxidation and/or lack of light and inorganic C availability for phenolics synthesis. We also found FM species represent highest fitness in term of antioxidant system, which would lead to overgrowth of FM species and littoral zone bogginess during lake eutrophication.
