Heavy metal accumulation by panicled goldenrain tree(Koelreuteria paniculata) and common elaeocarpus(Elaeocarpus decipens) in abandoned mine soils in southern China显示文摘Phytoremediation can be used as a sustainable technology for mine spoil remediation to remove heavy metals. This study investigated the concentration of 7 heavy metal contamination in soil and plant samples at an abandoned mine site.We found that, after vegetation remediation at the abandoned mine site, the reduction rates for 7 heavy metals were in the range of 4.2%-86%,where reduction rates over 50% were achieved for four heavy metals(Zn,Mn,Cd,Ni).Transfer coeffcients of the panicled goldenrain tree(Koelreuteria paniculata Laxm) and the common elaeocarpus(Elaeocarpus decipens) for Zn,Mn,Ni,and Co were more than 1.Enrichment coeffcients of both trees for Mn were higher than 1.Our results suggest that the panicled goldenrain tree and the common elaeocarpus tree may act as accumulators in remediation. Moreover, the woody vegetation remediation in abandoned mining areas play an important role in improving scenery besides removing heavy metal from contaminated soil. | TIAN Dalun ZHU Fan YAN Wende Fang Xi XIANG Wenhua DENG Xiangwen WANG Guangjun PENG Changhui | 2009 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,3: | 11
Application of artificial neural networks in global climate change and ecological research:An overview显示文摘Fields that employ artificial neural networks(ANNs)have developed and expanded continuously in recent years with the ongoing development of computer technology and artificial intelligence.ANN has been adopted widely and put into practice by research-ers in light of increasing concerns over ecological issues such as global warming, frequent El Nio-Southern Oscillation(ENSO)events, and atmospheric circulation anomalies.Limitations exist and there is a potential risk for misuse in that ANN model pa-rameters require typically higher overall sensitivity, and the chosen network structure is generally more dependent upon individ-ual experience.ANNs,however, are relatively accurate when used for short-term predictions;despite global climate change re-search favoring the effects of interactions as the basis of study and the preference for long-term experimental research.ANNs remain a better choice than many traditional methods when dealing with nonlinear problems, and possesses great potential for the study of global climate change and ecological issues.ANNs can resolve problems that other methods cannot. This is especially true for situations in which measurements are difficult to conduct or when only incomplete data are available. It is anticipated that ANNs will be widely adopted and then further developed for global climate change and ecological research. | LIU ZeLin PENG ChangHui XIANG WenHua TIAN DaLun DENG XiangWen ZHAO MeiFang | 2010 | Chinese Science Bulletin2010,55,34: | 9
Gold nanoflowers for 3D volumetric molecular imaging of tumors by photoacoustic tomography显示文摘By binding molecular probes that target tumor cells, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) with superior characteristics have shown great potential in tumor molecular imaging studies. The non-invasive, high-resolution, and three-dimensional imaging of the targeted AuNPs within the tumor is desirable for both diagnosis and therapy. In this study, gold nanoflowers (AuNFs) are presented as a novel contrast agent for photoacoustic tomography (PAT). By binding to folic acid, the molecular probe, the tail-vein injected AuNFs concentrated within the tumor site in mice; this was clearly visualized by three-dimensional (3D) PAT imaging. In addition, toxicity assay proved that AuNFs were harmless to living cells and animals. Our results demonstrate that AuNFs have great potential in tumor molecular imaging. | Yuanyuan Jiang Zijian Deng Dan Yang Xin Deng Qi Li Yinlin Sha Changhui Li Dongsheng Xu | 2015 | Nano Research2015,8,7: | 8

According to the multidimensional conceptual modeling technique which is based on UML, the mapping algorithm between the multidimensional conceptual model is described based on XML and UML class diagram, and an application base for the wide use of this technique is given. | Lu Changhui Deng Su Zhang Weiming | 2005 | Journal of Systems Engineering and Electronics2005,16,4: | 2 |
DEAP1 encodes a fasciclin-like arabinogalactan protein required for male fertility in rice显示文摘Arabinogalactan proteins(AGPs)are widely distributed in plant cells.Fasciclin-like AGPs(FLAs)belong to a subclass of AGPs that play important roles in plant growth and development. However, little is known about the biological functions of rice FLA.Herein,we report the identification of a male-sterile mutant of DEFECTIVE EXINE AND APERTURE PATTERNING1(DEAP1)in rice. The deap1 mutant anthers produced aberrant pollen grains with defective exine formation and a flattened aperture annulus and exhibited slightly delayed tapetum degradation.DEAP1 encodes a plasma membrane-associated member of groupⅢplant FLAs and is specifically and temporally expressed in reproductive cells and the tapetum layer during male development.Gene expression studies revealed reduced transcript accumulation of genes related to exine formation, aperture patterning, and tapetum development in deap1 mutants.Moreover,DEAP1 may interact with two rice D6 PROTEIN KINASE-LIKE3 s(OsD6PKL3s),homologs of a known Arabidopsis aperture protein,to affect rice pollen aperture development. Our findings suggested that DEAP1 is involved in male reproductive development and may affect exine formation and aperture patterning, thereby providing new insights into the molecular functions of plant FLAs in male fertility. | Dan Zhou Ting Zou Kaixuan Zhang Pingping Xiong Fuxing Zhou Hao Chen Gongwen Li Kaiyou Zheng Yuhao Han Kun Peng Xu Zhang Shangyu Yang Qiming Deng Shiquan Wang Jun Zhu Yueyang Liang Changhui Sun Xiumei Yu Huainian Liu Lingxia Wang Ping Li Shuangcheng Li | 2022 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2022,64,7: | 2

Plant functional trait diversity and structural diversity co-underpin ecosystem multifunctionality in subtropical forests显示文摘Tree species diversity is assumed to be an important component in managing forest ecosystems because of effects on multiple functions or ecosystem multifunctionality. However, the importance of tree diversity in determining multifunctionality in structurally complex subtropical forests relative to other regulators(e.g.,soil microbial diversity, stand structure, and environmental conditions)remains uncertain. In this study, effects of aboveground(species richness and functional and structural diversity)and belowground(bacterial and fungal diversity)biodiversity, functional composition(community-weighted means of species traits),stand structure(diameter at breast height and stand density),and soil factors(pH and bulk density)on multifunctionality(including biomass production, carbon stock, and nutrient cycling)were examined along a tree diversity gradient in subtropical forests. The community-weighted mean of tree maximum height was the best predictor of ecosystem multifunctionality.Functional diversity explained a higher proportion of the variation in multifunctionality than that of species richness and fungal diversity.Stand structure-played an important role in modulating the effects of tree diversity on multifunctionality. The work highlights that species composition and maximizing forest structural complexity are effective strategies to increase forest multifunctionality while also conserving biodiversity in the management of multifunctional forests under global environmental changes. | Shuai Ouyang Mengmeng Gou Pifeng Lei Yue Liu Liang Chen Xiangwen Deng Zhonghui Zhao Yelin Zeng Yanting Hu Changhui Peng Wenhua Xiang | 2023 | Forest Ecosystems2023,10,2: | 0

A Novel Robust Online Extreme Learning Machine for the Non-Gaussian Noise显示文摘Samples collected from most industrial processes have two challenges:one is contaminated by the non-Gaussian noise, and the other is gradually obsolesced. This feature can obviously reduce the accuracy and generalization of models. To handle these challenges,a novel method, named the robust online extreme learning machine(RO-ELM),is proposed in this paper,in which the least mean p-power criterion is employed as the cost function which is to boost the robustness of the ELM,and the forgetting mechanism is introduced to discard the obsolescence samples. To investigate the performance of the ROELM,experiments on artificial and real-world datasets with the non-Gaussian noise are performed, and the datasets are from regression or classification problems. Results show that the RO-ELM is more robust than the ELM,the online sequential ELM(OS-ELM) and the OSELM with forgetting mechanism(FOS-ELM).The accuracy and generalization of the RO-ELM models are better than those of other models for online learning. | GU Jun ZOU Quanyi DENG Changhui WANG Xiaojun | 2023 | Chinese Journal of Electronics2023,32,1: | 0
Soil microbial respiration is regulated by stoichiometric imbalances: Evidence from a humidity gradient case显示文摘Humidity not only affects soil microbial respiration(SMR) directly, but, indirectly by regulating the availability of soil water and nutrients. However, the patterns of direct and indirect effects of humidity on SMR over large precipitation gradients remain unclear, limiting our understanding of the effects of precipitation changes on soil C cycle. Here, we investigated the relationships among humidity, soil nutrients, and SMR by identifying stoichiometric imbalances, microbial elemental homeostasis, and microbial C use efficiency along a precipitation gradient at a continental scale. The relationship between SMR and humidity index(HI) corresponded to a Richard’s curve with an inflection point threshold value of approximately 0.7. Soil microbial respiration increased with increasing humidity in drier areas(HI < 0.7), but tended to balance above this threshold. Increasing humidity exacerbated C:P and N:P imbalances across the selected gradient. Severe N and P limitations in soil microbial communities were observed in drier areas, while soil microbes suffered from aggravated P limitation as the humidity increased in wetter areas(HI > 0.7). Soil microbial communities regulated their enzyme production to maintain a strong stoichiometric homeostasis in drier areas;enzyme production, microbial biomass, and threshold elemental ratios were non-homeostatic under P limitation in wetter areas, which further contributed to the increase in SMR. Our results identified a moisture constraint on SMR in drier areas and highlighted the importance of nutrient(especially for P) limitations induced by humidity in regulating SMR in wetter areas. Understanding the modulation of SMR via soil enzyme activity may improve the prediction of soil C budget under future global climate change. | Jiwei LI Jiangbo XIE Jianzhao WU Yongxing CUI Lingbo DONG Yulin LIU Xuying HAI Yan LI Zhouping SHANGGUAN Kaibo WANG Changhui PENG Lei DENG | 2023 | Pedosphere2023,33,6: | 0
