| 1 | Formation mechanisms of megadunes and lakes in the Badain Jaran Desert,Inner Mongolia显示文摘Field observations demonstrate that calc-sinters occurred in the lakes of Badain Jaran Desert. 87Sr/86Sr ratios,14C,δ 13C and mineral com-positions of calc-sinters,and 3He/4He,4He/20Ne,δ 18O,δ D,pH and TDS of water from springs and lakes are analyzed in detail. The results indicate that the lake water is supplied through deep fault zone. The “ker-nel” of stabilized dunes in the Badain Jaran Desert perhaps consists of calc-sinters and calcareous ce-mentation layers. Deep-seated groundwater effuses from this “kernel” and recharges to lakes in desert. Precipitation and snowmelt water from the Qing-hai-Tibet Plateau is fed into the Badain Jaran Desert,Gurinai,Wentougaole and Ejinqi areas through the Xigaze-Langshan Fault zone. The isotopic composi-tions of groundwater in the Alax Plateau are abnor-mal due to the strong evaporation of the Gyaring and Ngoring lake water in the headstream of the Yellow River. Groundwater dissolves dissoluble fractions of rocks during its transportation through the fault zone and flows out of the mouth of spring in the Badan Jaran Desert. The dissoluble fractions are finally de-veloped into calc-sinters and calcareous cementation layers around the spring. Calci-sinters are gradually largened and eventually emerge on the surface of lake water. Eolian sands accumulate on the surfaces of calc-sinters and calcareous cementation layers,and eventually develop into dunes. Invasion of magma causes an increase in the temperature of groundwater within the faults. Groundwater evapora-tion provides water vapor for the formation of humid stabilized dunes during its upwelling. Rhizoconcre-tions found in Yihejigede indicate that the dune was formed and remained immovable 4700 years ago. | 2 | On the timing of the East Asian summer monsoon maximum during the Holocene Does the speleothem oxygen isotope record reflect monsoon rainfall variability?显示文摘The evolution of the East Asian summer monsoon(EASM) during the Holocene has long been of significant interest.Knowledge of past EASM variability not only increases our understanding of monsoon dynamics on a long timescale,but it also provides an environmental and climatic background for research into Chinese cultural development.However,the timing of the EASM maximum remains controversial.The popular concept of an 'early Holocene maximum' is mainly based on speleothemδ^(18)O(δ^(18)O_c) records from caves in southern China;however,the interpretation of δ^(18)O_C as a reliable proxy for EASM intensity is being increasingly challenged.The present paper is a critical review of the climatic significance of the δ^(18)O_C record from China.Firstly,we suggest that precipitation in northern China is an appropriate index of EASM intensity,the variation of which clearly indicates a mid-Holocene monsoon maximum.Secondly,an interregional comparison demonstrates that the precipitation record in northern China is quite different from that in southern China on a range of timescales,and is inconsistent with the spatial similarity exhibited by speleothem oxygen isotope records.Furthermore,both modeling and observational data show that the δ^(18)O_C records from southern China indeed reflect changes in precipitation δ^(18)O(δ^(18)O_P) rather than precipitation amount,and therefore that their use as an EASM proxy is inappropriate.Finally,we address several significant monsoon-related issues-including the driving mechanism of the EASM on an orbital timescale,the climatic significance of speleothem oxygen isotopes,and the relationship between atmospheric circulation and precipitation in monsoonal regions. | CHEN JianHui RAO ZhiGuo LIU JianBao HUANG Wei FENG Song DONG GuangHui HU Yu XU QingHai CHEN FaHu | 2016 | Science China(Information Sciences)2016，59，12： | 18 |
| 3 | Highly Efficient and Stable Hydrogen Production in All pH Range by Two-Dimensional Structured Metal-Doped Tungsten Semicarbides显示文摘Transition-metal-doped tungsten semicarbide nanosheets(M-doped W_(2)C NSs,M=Fe,Co,and Ni)have been synthesized through carburization of the mixture of tungsten trioxide,polyvinylpyrrolidone,and metal dopant.Te nanosheets grow directly on the W mesh and have the lateral dimension of several hundreds of nm to a few�m with a thickness of few tens nm.It is demonstrated that the M-doped W_(2)C NSs exhibit superior electrocatalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER).Impressively,the Nidoped W_(2)C NSs(2 at%Ni)with the optimized HER activity show extremely low onset overpotentials of 4,9,and 19 mV and modest Tafel slopes of 39,51,and 87 mV dec−1 in acidic(pH=0),neutral(pH=7.2),and basic(pH=14)solutions,respectively,which is close to the commercial Pt/C catalyst.Density functional theory(DFT)calculations also demonstrate that the Gibbs free energy for H adsorption of Ni-W_(2)C is much closer to the optimal valueG_(H∗)=-0.073 eV as compared to-0.16 eV of W_(2)C.Furthermore,nearly 100%Faradaic efciency and long-term stability are obtained in those environments.Tis realization of highly tolerant metal semicarbide catalyst performing on par with commercial Pt/C in all range of pH ofers a key step towards industrially electrochemical water splitting. | Edison H.Ang Khang N.Dinh Xiaoli Sun Ying Huang Jun Yang Zhili Dong Xiaochen Dong Wei Huang Zhiguo Wang Hua Zhang Qingyu Yan | 2019 | Research2019，，1： | 7 |

| 6 | Ameliorative effects of potassium on drought-induced decreases in fiber length of cotton(Gossypium hirsutum L.) are associated with osmolyte dynamics during fiber development显示文摘Fiber length of cotton(Gossypium hirsutum L.)decreases under drought stress,potassium(K)could diminish the decreased caused by drought,but the mechanism associated with this alleviation effect is not clear.We evaluated the effect of K on fiber elongation using two cotton cultivars,Simian 3 and Siza 3,grown in well-watered and drought-stressed conditions.Potassium fertilizer(K2O)was applied 0,150,or 300 kg ha?1 in each growing condition.Drought stress reduced the final fiber length due to a decline in the maximum rate of rapid elongation(Vmax,mmday?1).The application of K alleviated the droughtinduced fiber length reduction by increasing Vmax.At 10 and 15 days post-anthesis(DPA),drought significantly reduced osmotic potential(OP)and increased K+and malate contents at all K rates,relative to well-watered conditions,which was associated with increased activities of phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase(PEPC),V-ATPase,PPase,and PM H+-ATPase in cotton fiber.However,the relative contribution of K+and malate to OP declined under drought in comparison with well-watered condition.Compared with control without K,K application decreased OP and increased the accumulation of osmolytes(K+,malate and soluble sugar)as well as the activities of related enzymes in fiber irrespective of water treatments.Moreover,K application increased osmotic adjustment during drought,and improved the contribution of K+and malate to OP,especially under drought stress.This study showed that drought decreased fiber length by reducing Vmax,and K application ameliorates the decline in fiber elongation due to drought by enhancing osmolytes accumulation and their contribution to OP in fiber cells. | Wenqing Zhao Haoran Dong Rizwan Zahoor Zhiguo Zhou John L.Snider Yinglong Chen Kadambot H.M.Siddique Youhua Wang | 2019 | The Crop Journal2019，7，5： | 4 |

Three morphological types of the apex, the most characteristic feature of the taxon, are identified from hundreds of Quadrapyrgites specimens. The Quadrapyrgites growth zone is situated at the oral end, where 12 terminal lobes are generated, uplifted, enlarged, and evaginated to form a crest; A one-by-one of crest number from 2 to 13 has been recognized. The unique growth pattern and ontogenetic sequence refute a cubozoan or cycloneuralian affinity for Olivooides and Quadrapyrgites, and instead defend a coronate scyphozoan hypothesis.
