2Effects of Buyang Huanwu decoction on cell proliferation and differentiation in the hippocampal dentate gyrus of aged rats following cerebral ischemia/reperfusion显示文摘BACKGROUND:The mobilization of endogenous stem cells is an effective way to promote repair following ischemic brain damage.Buyang Huanwu decoction(BHD) can effectively improve cerebral blood flow and protect against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion damage. OBJECTIVE:To study the effects of BHD on cell proliferation and differentiation in the hippocampal dentate gyrus of rats following cerebral infarction,to investigate the protective effects of BHD against cerebral infarction,and to analyze the dose-effect relationship. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:This randomized,controlled,animal study was performed at the Laboratory of Department of Physiology,Henan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine,China from June 2007 to February 2008. MATERIALS:A total of 36 male,Sprague Dawley rats,aged 20-21 months,were equally and randomly assigned to the following groups:sham operation,model control,and nimodipine,as well as high-dose,moderate-dose,and low-dose BHD.BHD was composed of milkvetch root,Chinese angelica,red peony root,earthworm,peach seed,safflower,and Szechwan Iovage rhizome,which were provided by the Outpatient Department,Henan College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China. METHODS:The Chinese medicinal ingredients described above were decocted.The external carotid artery was ligated in rats from the sham operation group.Rat models of focal cerebral infarction were established by middle cerebral artery occlusion in the model control and nimodipine groups,as well as the high-dose,moderate-dose,and low-dose BHD groups.The drugs were administered by gavage 5 days,as well as 2 hours,prior to model induction.Rats in the nimodipine group were daily administered a 6 mg/kg nimodipine suspension by gavage.Rats in the high-dose, moderate-dose,and low-dose BHD groups were administered daily 26,13,and 6.5 g/kg BHD, respectively.Rats in the sham operation and model control groups were treated with an equal volume of saline. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:The effects of BHD on neurological dysfunction score,brain water content,cell proliferation and differentiation in the hippocampal dentate gyrus,and pathological changes in the ischemic brain hemisphere were measured in cerebral infarction rats. RESULTS:Compared with the sham operation group,the neurological dysfunction score,brain water content,number of BrdU-positive cells,BrdU/NeuN-positive cells,and BrdU/GFAP-positive cells in the hippocampal dentate gyrus significantly increased in the model control group(P<0.01). Compared with the model control group,neurological dysfunction score and brain water content were significantly decreased(P<0.01 or 0.05),as were the number of BrdU-positive and BrdU/NeuN-positive cells(P<0.01 or 0.05).The number of BrdU/GFAP-positive cells was significantly reduced(P<0.05) in the nimodipine group,high-dose,moderate-dose,and low-dose BHD groups.Compared with the nimodipine group,the neurological dysfunction score was significantly reduced in the moderate-dose BHD group(P<0.05).However,the number of BrdU-positive cells was significantly increased in the rat hippocampal dentate gyrus in the high-dose and moderate-close BHD groups(P<0.01 or 0.05).The following was determined by microscopy: slightly disarranged neural cells,mild vascular dilatation,inflammatory cell infiltration,and light tissue edema were observed in the nimodipine group;inflammatory cell infiltration was reduced in the low-dose BHD group;cerebral edema and inflammatory cell infiltration were significantly reduced in the high-dose and in the moderate-dose BHD group.Electron microscopy revealed lipofuscin, slightly swollen mitochondria,and normal rough endoplasmic reticulum in the high-dose and moderate-dose BHD groups.Improvement was best in the moderate-dose BHD group. 3GaN PIN betavoltaic nuclear batteries显示文摘GaN PIN betavoltaic nuclear batteries are demonstrated in this work.GaN epitaxial layers were grown on 2-inch sapphire sub-strates by MOCVD,and then the GaN PIN nuclear batteries were fabricated.Current-voltage(I-V)characteristic shows that the small leakage currents are 0.12 nA at 0 V and 1.76 nA at 10 V,respectively.With 147Pm the irradiation source,the maximum open circuit voltage and maximum short circuit current are 1.07 V and 0.554 nA,respectively.The fill factor(FF)of24.7%for the battery was been obtained.The limited performance of the devices is mainly due to the low energy deposition in the microbatteries.Therefore,the GaN nuclear microbatteries are expected to be optimized by growing high quality GaN films,thin dead layer and so on.LI FengHua GAO Xu YUAN YuanLin YUAN JinShe LU Min 2014Science China(Technological Sciences)2014,57,1:4
4Shape Memory Polymer Fibers:Materials,Structures,and Applications显示文摘Shape memory polymer(SMP)is a kind of material that can sense and respond to the changes of the external environment,and its behavior is similar to the intelligent refection of life.Electrospinning,as a versatile and feasible technique,has been used to prepare shape memory polymer fbers(SMPFs)and expand their structures.SMPFs show some advanced features and functions in many felds.In this review,we give a comprehensive overview of SMPFs,including materials,fabrication methods,structures,multifunction,and applications.Firstly,the mechanism and characteristics of SMP are introduced.We then discuss the electrospinning method to form various microstructures,like non-woven fbers,core/shell fbers,hollow fbers and oriented fbers.Afterward,the multiple functions of SMPFs are discussed,such as multi-shape memory efect,reversible shape memory efect and remote actuation of composites.We also focus on some typical applications of SMPFs,including biomedical scafolds,drug carriers,self-healing,smart textiles and sensors,as well as energy harvesting devices.At the end,the challenges and future development directions of SMPFs are proposed.Lu Wang Fenghua Zhang Yanju Liu Jinsong Leng 2022Advanced Fiber Materials2022,4,1:3

6Efficacy and safety of chemotherapy combined with bevacizumab in Chinese patients with metastatic colorectal cancer:A prospective,multicenter,observational,non-interventional phaseⅣtrial显示文摘Objective:Bevacizumab has an important and evolving role in improving outcomes in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer(mCRC)worldwide and was approved in China in 2010.However,there are limited real-world data on the efficacy and safety of chemotherapy regimens combined with bevacizumab in Chinese patients with mCRC.This observational,phase IV trial study aimed to obtain more experience on the efficacy and safety of bevacizumab combined with chemotherapy in Chinese mCRC patients.Methods:Between September 2013 and November 2016,patients with histologically confirmed mCRC were enrolled in a prospective,multicenter,observational,non-interventional phase IV trial at 26 centers across China.Eligible patients received different chemotherapeutic regimens combined with bevacizumab.The efficacy and safety data in the intention-to-treat study population were analyzed.Results:A total of 611 patients were included in the efficacy analysis.The median overall survival and median progression-free survival was 18.00 and 10.05 months,respectively.The objective response rate was 21.00%and disease control rate was 89.40%.In subgroup analyses,the survival differences were observed according to metastatic status,duration of treatment and elevation in blood pressure.A total of 613 patients were evaluable for safety assessments.And 569(92.82%)patients reported at least one adverse event(AE),and 151(24.63%)experienced grade 3 or higher AEs.The incidence of bevacizumab-associated AEs of special interest was reported in 31(5.06%)patients with hypertension(n=12),abscesses and fistulae(n=7),bleeding(n=6),proteinuria(n=3),gastrointestinal perforation(n=2)and venous thrombotic events(n=1).Conclusions:This observational phase IV trial broadens our experience and knowledge of bevacizumab in the Chinese population and provides a good indication of its overall efficacy and safety.Bevacizumab in combination with chemotherapy offers clinical benefits to Chinese patients with mCRC and has an acceptable and manageable safety profile.Fenghua Wang Guanghai Dai Yanhong Deng Yong Tang Wei Wang Zuoxing Niu Feng Bi Liangjun Zhu Zengqing Guo Jin Yan Bing Hu Min Tao Shujun Yang Suzhan Zhang Lu Wen Ruihua Xu 2021Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2021,33,4:2
7A Study on the Biocompatibility of MgO Coating Prepared by Anodic Oxidation Method on Magnesium Metal显示文摘Magnesium(Mg),is widely used for the bone repair in oral and orthopedic application due to excellent bioactivity,degradation and biocompatibility.However,the range of application is greatly limited because of the rapid degradation of Mg metal in the body.Surface modification is an effective method to enhance the corrosion resistance and reduce the degradation rate of Mg metal.In the present study,pure Mg metal(P-Mg)was subjected to alkali-heat treatment(AT-Mg)or anodic oxidation-heat treatment(AO-HT-Mg).Both AT-Mg and AO-HT-Mg had a layer of MgO on their surfaces after treatment.Then the effects of MgO coating on corrosion resistance,bioactivity,Mesenchymal Stem Cells’(MSCs)proliferation,adhesion and osteogenic differentiation,and the bone repair capability of Mg metal were investigated.We found both AT-Mg and AO-HT-Mg had stronger corrosion resistance than P-Mg.MSCs on both AT-Mg and AO-HT-Mg had higher expression of proteins and genes of ALP,OCN,Col-I and Runx2 than those on P-Mg.They also showed better bone repair property than P-Mg in vivo.In general,MgO layer formed by anodic oxidation-heat treatment had better resistance and biocompatibility than that produced by alkali-heat treatment.This study indicated the MgO coating not only improved the corrosion resistance of Mg metal,but also promoted the osteogenic differentiation of MSCs and bone regeneration.Yangmei Chen Xugang Lu Fenghua Zhao Yi Hu Shibing Xiong Yuqiang Guo Ping Huang Bangcheng Yang 2020Journal of Bionic Engineering2020,17,1:2

9Gap engineering of sandwich plasmonic gap nanostructures for boosting plasmon-enhanced electrocatalysis显示文摘Plasmonic catalysis is emerging as a dynamic field in heterogeneous catalysis and holds great promise for the efficient utilization of solar energy.Central to the development of plasmonic catalysis is the design of efficient plasmonic nanocatalysts.In this report,plasmonic gap nanostructures(PGNs)on the basis of Au@poly(o-phenylenediamine)(POPD)@Pd sandwich nanostructures are synthesized as plasmonic nanocatalysts by an in-situ reduction synthetic strategy,which allows for the precise engineering of the POPD gap size between plasmonic Au and catalytic Pd components.The introduction of conducting POPD nanogap in PGNs not only effectively enhances their light harvesting capability,but also provides an effective charge transfer channel for harnessing the photogenerated hot charge carriers.In this respect,distinct gap-dependent performances in plasmon-enhanced electrocatalysis of ethanol oxidation reactions(EOR)are demonstrated with the PGN nanocatalysts and over 2.5 folds of enhancement can be achieved.A volcano plot is derived to describe the relationship between the catalytic activities and gap size of the PGN nanocatalysts,which is well explained by the interplay of their light harvesting and charge transport capabilities.These results highlight the importance of gap engineering in PGNs for plasmonic catalysis and offer the promise of developing efficient plasmonic nanocatalysts for other heterogeneous catalytic reactions.Lu Cheng Fengxia Wu Yu Tian Xiali Lv Fenghua Li Guobao Xu Hsien-Yi Hsu Yongjun Zhang Wenxin Niu 2023Nano Research2023,16,7:1

18Characteristics of Si-PIN nuclear radiation detectors stacked in series and parallel显示文摘The silicon-based diodes coated with a thin film of neutron reactive materials have been shown to produce excellent neutron detectors. We have fabricated the thin-film-coated single Si-PIN neutron detectors and stacked ones coupled in series and parallel in this work. The stacked detectors show the advantage of improving the detection efficiency of neutron detecting, which essentially attributes to the increase of the effective detection area. It is shown that the stacked detector in series has more superior performance than the parallel one. 19Effects of Groundwater with Various Salinities on Evaporation and Redistribution of Water and Salt in Saline-sodic Soils in Songnen Plain,Northeast China显示文摘Groundwater mineralization is one of the main factors affecting the transport of soil water and salt in saline-sodic areas.To investigate the effects of groundwater with different levels of salinity on evaporation and distributions of soil water and salt in Songnen Plain,Northeast China,five levels of groundwater sodium adsorption ration of water(SARw)and total salt content(TSC mmol/L)were conducted in an oil column lysimeters.The five treated groundwater labeled as ST0:0,ST0:10,ST5:40,ST10:70 and ST20:100,were prepared with NaCl and CaCl2 in proportion,respectively.The results showed the groundwater evaporation(GWE)and soil evaporation(SE)increased firstly and then decreased with the increase of groundwater salinity.The values of GWE and SE in ST10:70 treatment were the highest,which were 2.09 and 1.84 times the values in the ST0:0 treatment with the lowest GWE and SE.There was a positive linear correlation between GWE and the Ca^(2+)content in groundwater,with R^(2)=0.998.The soil water content(SWC)of ST0:0 treatment was significantly(P<0.05)less than those of other treatments during the test.The SWC of the ST0:0 and ST0:10 treatments increased with the increase of soil depth,while the other treatments showed the opposite trend.Statistical analysis indicated the SWC in the 0–60 cm soil layer was positively correlated with the groundwater TSC and its ion contents during the test.Salt accumulation occurred in the topsoil and the salt accumulation in the 0–20 cm soil layer was significantly(P<0.05)greater than that in the subsoil.This study revealed the effects of the salinity level of groundwater,especially the Ca^(2+)content and TSC of groundwater,on the GWE and distributions of soil water and salt,which provided important support for the prevention and reclamation of soil salinization and sodificaton in shallow groundwater regions.ZHU Wendong ZHAO Dandan YANG Fan WANG Zhichun DONG Shide AN Fenghua MA Hongyuan ZHANG Lu TIBOR Tóth 2023Chinese Geographical Science2023,33,6:0
20Adjustable volume and loading release of shape memory polymer microcapsules显示文摘Research on microcapsules has been conducted in recent years given trends in miniaturization and novel functionalization.In this work,we designed and prepared a series of unique shape memory polyurethane(SMPU)microcapsules with stimuli-responsive func-tions.The microcapsule has a core-shell structure in which the surface morphology can be adjusted,and it has a certain loadbearing capacity.In addition,the SMPU microcapsule has a stimuliresponsive function for shape memory and solvent response.The temperature of its shape recovery is approximately body tempera-ture,and it can swell to rupture under the stimulation of organic solvents.Thus,the SMPU microcapsule has potential applications in biomedical fields,such as drug release.Fenghua Zhang Lu Wang Qiangwang Geng Yanju Liu Jinsong Leng Stoyan K.Smoukov 2023International Journal of Smart and Nano Materials2023,14,1:0
