| 1 | Plasma exchange-centered artificial liver support system in hepatitis B virus-related acute-onchronic liver failure:a nationwide prospective multicenter study in China显示文摘BACKGROUND:Plasma exchange(PE)-centered artificial liver support system reduced the high mortality rate of hepatitis B virus(HBV)-related acute-on-chronic liver failure(ACLF).But the data were diverse in different medical centers.The present prospective nationwide study was to evaluate the effects of PE on patients with HBV-ACLF at different stages.METHODS:From December 2009 to December 2011,we evaluated 250 patients at different stages of HBV-ACLF from 10 major medical centers in China.All the laboratory parameters were collected at admission,before and after PE.RESULTS:Among the 250 patients who underwent 661 rounds of PE,one-month survival rate was 61.6%; 141(56.4%) showed improvement after PE.Variables such as age(P=0.000),levels of total bilirubin(TB,P=0.000),direct bilirubin(P=0.000),total triglycerides(P=0.000),low-density lipoprotein(P=0.022),Na+(P=0.014),Cl–(P=0.038),creatinine(Cr,P=0.007),fibrinogen(P=0.000),prothrombin time(PT,P=0.000),white blood cell(P=0.000),platelet(P=0.003) and MELD(P=0.000) were significantly related to prognosis.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that age,disease stage,TB,Cr and PT levels were independent risk factors of mortality among HBV-ACLF patients.CONCLUSIONS:PE can improve the clinical outcome of patients with HBV-ACLF.Levels of TB,Cr and PT,age and disease stage help to predict prognosis. | Jia-Jia Chen Jian-Rong Huang Qian Yang Xiao-Wei Xu Xiao-Li Liu Shao-Rui Hao Hui-Fen Wang Tao Han Jing Zhang Jian-He Gan Zhi-Liang Gao Yu-Ming Wang Shu-Mei Lin Qing Xie Chen Pan Lan-Juan Li | 2016 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2016,15,3: | 48 |

| 3 | Phylogenetic structure and phylogenetic diversity of angiosperm assemblages in forests along an elevational gradient in Changbaishan,显示文摘Aims Understanding what drives the variation in species composition and diversity among local communities can provide insights into the mechanisms of community assembly.Because ecological traits are often thought to be phylogenetically conserved,there should be patterns in phylogenetic structure and phylogenetic diversity in local communities along ecological gradients.We investigate potential patterns in angiosperm assemblages along an elevational gradient with a steep ecological gradient in Changbaishan,China.Methods We used 13 angiosperm assemblages in forest plots(32×32 m)distributed along an elevational gradient from 720 to 1900 m above sea level.We used Faith’s phylogenetic diversity metric to quantify the phylogenetic alpha diversity of each forest plot,used the net relatedness index to quantify the degree of phylogenetic relatedness among angiosperm species within each forest plot and used a phylogenetic dissimilarity index to quantify phylogenetic beta diversity among forest plots.We related the measures of phylogenetic structure and phylogenetic diversity to environmental(climatic and edaphic)factors.Important Findings Our study showed that angiosperm assemblages tended to be more phylogenetically clustered at higher elevations in Changbaishan.This finding is consistent with the prediction of the phylogenetic niche conservatism hypothesis,which highlights the role of niche constraints in governing the phylogenetic structure of assemblages.Our study also showed that woody assemblages differ from herbaceous assemblages in several major aspects.First,phylogenetic clustering dominated in woody assemblages,whereas phylogenetic overdispersion dominated in herbaceous assemblages;second,patterns in phylogenetic relatedness along the elevational and temperature gradients of Changbaishan were stronger for woody assemblages than for herbaceous assemblages;third,environmental variables explained much more variations in phylogenetic relatedness,phylogenetic alpha diversity and phylogenetic beta diversity for woody assemblages than for herbaceous assemblages. | Hong Qian Zhanqing Hao Jian Zhang | 2014 | Journal of Plant Ecology2014,7,2: | 33 |

| 6 | Effects of multimodal fast-track surgery on liver transplantation outcomes显示文摘BACKGROUND:Fast-track surgery and enhanced recovery after surgery have been applied to many surgical procedures;however,data on fast-track surgery and enhanced recovery after surgery following liver transplantation is limited.This study aimed to conduct a prospective study to determine the effects of fast-track surgery on prognosis after liver transplantation.METHODS:This was a prospective,single-blinded,randomized study.One hundred twenty-eight patients undergoing liver transplantation were selected for the fast-track(FT group,n=54) or conventional process(NFT group,n=74).The primary endpoints were intensive care unit(ICU) stay and hospital stay.The secondary endpoints were as follows:operative time,anhepatic phase time,intraoperative blood loss,intraoperative blood transfusion volume,postoperative complications,readmission rate,and postoperative mortality.RESULTS:There was no significant difference in preoperative demographics between the two groups.The median ICU stay was 2 days(range 1-7 days) in the FT group and 5 days(range 3-12 days) in the NFT group(P<0.01).Furthermore,the hospital stay was also significantly reduced in the FT group(P<0.01).The operative time,anhepatic phase time,intraoperative blood loss,and intraoperative blood transfusion volume were decreased in the FT group compared with the NFT group(P<0.05).Based on Spearman correlation analysis,the ICU stay and hospital stay may be positively correlated with operative time,anhepatic phase time and intraoperative blood loss.There were no differences in the incidence of postoperative complications,readmissions,and postoperative mortality between the two groups.CONCLUSION:Fast-track procedures effectively reduce the ICU stay and hospital stay without adversely affecting prognosis.This study demonstrated that fast-track protocols are safe and feasible in liver transplantation. | Jian-Hua Rao Feng Zhang Hao Lu Xin-Zheng Dai Chuan-Yong Zhang Xiao-Feng Qian Xue-Hao Wang Ling Lu | 2017 | Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Diseases International2017,16,4: | 23 |
| 7 | Serum cystatin C concentration as an independent marker for hypertensive left ventricular hypertrophy显示文摘Background Serum cystatin C levels can be used to predict morbidity and mortality in patients with cardiovascular disease. However, the clinical relevance of serum cystatin C levels in patients with hypertensive left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) has rarely been investigated. We designed the present study to investigate whether serum cystatin C levels are associated with cardiac structural and functional alterations in hypertensive patients. Methods We enrolled 823 hypertensive patients and classified them into two groups:those with LVH (n=287) and those without LVH (n=536). All patients underwent echocardiography and serum cystatin C testing. We analyzed the relationship be-tween serum cystatin C levels and LVH. Results Serum cystatin C levels were higher in hypertensive patients with LVH than in those without LVH (P<0.05). Using linear correlation analysis, we found a positive correlation between serum cystatin C levels and interven-tricular septal thickness (r=0.247, P<0.01), posterior wall thickness (r=0.216, P<0.01), and left ventricular weight index (r=0.347, P<0.01). When analyzed by multiple linear regression, the positive correlations remained between serum cystatin C and interventricular septal thickness (β=0.167, P<0.05), posterior wall thickness (β=0.187, P<0.05), and left ventricular weight index (β=0.245, P<0.01). | 8 | Preliminary study on proteomics of gastric carcinoma and its clinical significance显示文摘AIM: To explore the preliminary identification of serum protein pattern models that may be novel potential biomarkers in the detection of gastric cancer.METHODS: A total of 130 serum samples, including 70 from patients with gastric cancer and 60 from healthy adults, were detected by surface-enhanced laser desorption and ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (SELDI-TOF-MS). The data of spectra were analyzed by Biomarker Patterns Software (BPS). Thirty serum samples of gastric cancer patients and 30 serum samples of healthy adults were grouped into the training group to build models, and the other 70 samples were used to test and evaluate the models. The samples of the test group were judged only with their peaks'height and were separated into cancer group or healthy control group by BPS automatically and the judgments were checked with the histopathologic diagnosis of the samples.RESULTS: Sixteen mass peaks were found to be potential biomarkers with a significant level of P<0.01.Among them, nine mass peaks showed increased expression in patients with gastric cancer. Analyzed by BPS, two peaks were chosen to build the model for gastric cancer detection. The sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of the model were 90%, 36/40, 86.7%, 26/30,and 88.6%, 62/70, respectively, which were greatly higher than those of clinically used serum biomarkers CEA (carcinoembryonic antigen), CA19-9 and CA72-4.Stage Ⅰ/Ⅱ gastric cancer samples of the test group were all judged correctly.CONCLUSION: The novel biomarkers in serum and the established model could be potentially used in the detection of gastric cancer. Here, we demonstrate the recent advances of intelligent cancer nanomedicine, and discuss the comprehensive understanding of their structure-function relationship for smart and efficient cancer nanomedicine including various imaging and therapeutic applications, as well as nanotoxicity. In particular, a few emerging strategies that have advanced cancer nanomedicine are also highlighted as the emerging focus such as tumor imprisonment, supramolecular chemotherapy, and DNA nanorobot. The challenge and outlook of some scientific and engineering issues are also discussed in future development. | 12 | N6-Methyladenine DNA Methylation in Japonica and Indica Rice Genomes and Its Association with Gene Expression,Plant Development, and Stress Responses显示文摘N6-Methyladenine (6mA)DNA methylation has recently been implicated as a potential new epigenetic marker in eukaryotes,including the dioot modelArabidopsis thaliana.However,the conservation and divergence of 6mA distribution patterns and functions in plants remain elusive.Here we report high-quality 6mA methylomes at single-nucleotide resolution in rice based on substantially improved genome sequences of two rice cultivars,Nipponbare (Nip;Japonica)and 93-11 (Indica).Analysis of 6mA genomic distribution and its association with transcription suggest that 6mA distribution and function is rather conserved between rice and Arabidopsis.We found that 6mA levels are positively correlated with the expression of key stressrelated genes,which may be responsible for the difference in stress tolerance between Nip and 93-11. Moreover,we showed that mutations in DDM1 cause defects in plant growth and decreased 6mA level. | 14 | Relative position determination of a lunar rover using high-accuracy multi-frequency same-beam VLBI显示文摘Multi-frequency same-beam VLBI means that two explorers with a small separation angle are simultaneously observed with the main beam of receiving antennas. In the same-beam VLBI, the differential phase delay between two explorers and two receiving telescopes can be obtained with a small error of several picoseconds. The differential phase delay, as the observable of the same-beam VLBI, gives the separation angular information of the two explorers in the celestial sphere. The two-dimensional relative position on the plane-of-sky can thus be precisely determined with an error of less than 1 m for a distance of 3.8×105 km far away from the earth, by using the differential phase delay obtained with the four Chinese VLBI stations. | 15 | Analysis of Micro-texture during Secondary Recrystallization in a Hi-B Electrical Steel显示文摘The understanding of Goss texture in Hi-B electrical steels possesses significant industrial and academic value, thus attracts worldwide attention. The prevailing models for sharp Goss texture formation during secondary recrystallization are CSL (coincident site lattice) boundary theory and HE (high energy) boundary theory. These theories stress the key factor of preferred growth and the difference between them only lies in the specific selection manner. This work examined the texture gradient in primarily recrystallized sheet and demonstrated its possible influence on the formation of secondary grains, and then determined the micro- texture during different stages of secondary recrystallization using EBSD (electron back-scattered diffraction) technique, finally analyzed a special type of secondary grains with near Brass orientation, which were detected in the later stage of secondary recrystallization, and discussed its origin and effect in terms of surface energy effect. This study investigates the effects of ginsenoside Rbl, a major constituent of ginseng,on H2O2-induced endothelial senescence.Methods Primary human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs) senescence was induced by H2O2 as judged by senescence-associated P-galactosidase assay (SA-P-gal).Fntracellur superoxide dismutase(S0D1) activity and malondialdehyde(MDA) level were determined by commercial kit.S0D1 mRNA and protein expression were analyzed by real time PCR and Western blot.Reactive oxygen species(ROS) were determined by flow cytometry.Results Rb1 was found to reverse endothelial senescence,as witnessed by a significant decrease of senescent cell numbers. Rbl could markedly increase intracellular SOD activity, decrease the MDA level,and suppress the generation of intracellular ROS in H2O2-treated HUVECs.Consistent with these findings,Rbl can effectively restore SOD1 mRNA and protein expression which decreased in H2O2 treated cells. | 17 | Response of grain yield to plant density and nitrogen rate in spring maize hybrids released from 1970 to 2010 in Northeast China显示文摘The objective of this study was to identify the response of grain yield to plant density and nitrogen rate in spring maize hybrids released from 1970 to 2010 and grown extensively in Northeast China.Twenty-one hybrids were grown for 2 years in Northeast China at densities of 30,000,52,500,75,000,and 97,500 plants ha^(-1)and N application levels of 0,150,300,and 450 kg N ha^(-1).Irrespective of density or nitrogen application rate,grain yields both per plant and per unit area were significantly higher for newer than older hybrids.As plant density increased from 30,000 to 97,500 plant ha^(-1),yield per plant of 1970 s,1980 s,1990 s,and 2000 s hybrids decreased by 50%,45%,46%,and 52%,respectively.The response of grain yield per unit area to plant density was curvilinear.The estimated optimum plant densities were about 58,000,49,000,65,000,and 65,000 plants ha^(-1)for hybrids released in the 1970 s,1980s,1990 s,and 2000 s,respectively.The theoretical optimum densities for the hybrids released from the 1970 s to the 2000 s increased by 1750 plants ha^(-1)decade^(-1).Nitrogen fertilization significantly increased grain yields per plant and per unit area for all hybrids.The theoretical optimum N application rates for high yield for hybrids released in the 1970 s and 1980 s were about 280 and 360 kg ha^(-1),and the hybrids from the 1990 s and 2000 s showed highest yield at 330 kg ha^(-1)N.No significant difference in the grain yields of 2000 s hybrids between the N levels of 150 to 450 kg ha^(-1)was found.Significant yield gains per plant and per unit area were found,with average increases of 17.9 g plant^(-1)decade^(-1)and936 kg ha^(-1)decade^(-1)over the period 1970–2010,respectively.Yield gains were attributed mainly to increased yield per plant,contributed by increases in kernel number per ear and1000-kernel weight.The rates of lodging and barren plants of newer hybrids were significantly lower than those of older ones,especially at high plant density. | Chunrong Qian Yang Yu Xiujie Gong Yubo Jiang Yang Zhao Zhongliang Yang Yubo Hao Liang Li Zhenwei Song Weijian Zhang | 2016 | The Crop Journal2016,4,6: | 15 |
| 18 | Serum hepatitis B virus RNA is a predictor of HBeAg seroconversion and virological response with entecavir treatment in chronic hepatitis B patients显示文摘BACKGROUND Characteristics of alterations of serum hepatitis B virus(HBV) RNA in different chronic hepatitis B(CHB) patients still cannot be fully explained. Whether HBV RNA can predict HBeAg seroconversion is still controversial.AIM To investigate whether HBV RNA can predict virological response or HBeAg seroconversion during entecavir(ETV) treatment when HBV DNA is undetectable.METHODS The present study evaluated 61 individuals who were diagnosed and treated with long-term ETV monotherapy at the Department of Infectious Diseases of Peking University First Hospital(China) from September 2006 to December 2007.Finally, 30 treatment-naive individuals were included. Serum HBV RNA were extracted from 140 μL serum samples at two time points. Then they were reverse transcribed to cDNA with the HBV-specific primer. The product was quantified by real-time quantitative PCR(RT-PCR) using TAMARA probes. Statistical analyses were performed with IBM SPSS 20.0.RESULTS Level of serum HBV RNA at baseline was 4.15 ± 0.90 log10 copies/mL. HBV RNA levels showed no significant difference between the virological response(VR)and partial VR(PVR) groups at baseline(P = 0.940). Serum HBV RNA significantly decreased among patients who achieved a VR during ETV therapy(P < 0.001). The levels of HBV RNA in both HBeAg-positive patients with seroconversion group and those with no seroconversion increased after 24 wk of treatment. Overall, HBV RNA significantly but mildly correlated to HBsAg(r =0.265, P = 0.041), and HBV RNA was not correlated to HBV DNA(r = 0.242, P =0.062). Furthermore, serum HBV RNA was an independent indicator for predicting HBeAg seroconversion and virological response. HBeAg seroconversion was more likely in CHB patients with HBV RNA levels below4.12 log10 copies/mL before treatment.CONLUSION The level of serum HBV RNA could predict HBeAg seroconversion and PVR during treatment. | 19 | Antisense MMP-9 RNA inhibits malignant glioma cell growth in vitro and in vivo显示文摘The matrix-degrading metalloproteinases (MMPs), particularly MMP-9, play important roles in the pathogenesis and development of malignant gliomas. In the present study, the oncogenic role of MMP-9 in malignant glioma cells was investigated via antisense RNA blockade in vitro and in vivo. TJ905 malignant glioma cells were transfected with pcDNA3.0 vector expressing antisense MMP-9 RNA (pcDNA-AS-MMP9), which significantly decreased MMP-9 expression, and cell proliferation was assessed. For in vivo studies, U251 cells, a human malignant glioma cell line, were implanted subcutaneously into 4-to 6-week-old BALB/c nude mice. The mice bearing well-established U251 gliomas were treated with intratumoral pcDNA-AS-MMP9-Lipofectamine complex (AS-MMP-9-treated group), subcutaneous injection of endostatin (endostatin-treated group), or both (combined therapy group). Mice treated with pcDNA (empty vector)-Lipofectamine served as the control group. Four or eight weeks later, the volume and weight of tumor, MMP-9 expression, microvessel density and proliferative activity were assayed. We demonstrate that pcDNA-AS-MMP9 significantly decreased MMP-9 expression and inhibited glioma cell proliferation. Volume and weight of tumor, MMP-9 expression, microvessel density and proliferative activity in the antisense-MMP-9-treated and therapeutic alliance groups were significantly lower than those in the control group. The results suggest that MMP-9 not only promotes malignant glioma cell invasiveness, but also affects tumor cell proliferation.
