1The Suitability of Using Leaf Area Index to Quantify Soil Loss under Vegetation Cover显示文摘Soil erosion by water under forest cover is a serious problem in southern China.A comparative study was carried out on the use of leaf area index(LAI) and vegetation fractional coverage(VFC) in quantifying soil loss under vegetation cover.Five types of vegetation with varied LAI and VFC under field conditions were exposed to two rainfall rates(40 mm h-1 and 54 mm h-1) using a portable rainfall simulator.Runoff rate,sediment concentration and soil loss rate were measured at relatively runoff stable state.Significant negative exponential relationship(p < 0.05,R2 = 0.83) and linear relationship(p < 0.05,R2 = 0.84) were obtained between LAI and sediment concentration,while no significant relationship existed between VFC and sediment concentration.The mechanism by which vegetation canopy prevents soil loss was by reducing rainfall kinetic energy and sediment concentration.LAI could better quantify such a role than VFC.However,neither LAI nor VFC could explain runoff rate or soil loss rate.Caution must be taken when using LAI to quantify the role of certain vegetation in soil and water conservation.ZHANG Wentai YU Dongsheng SHI Xuezheng WANG Hongjie GU Zhujun ZHANG Xiangyan TAN Manzhi 2011Journal of Mountain Science2011,8,4:7
2In vivo degradation and endothelialization of an iron bioresorbable scaffold显示文摘Detection of in vivo biodegradation is critical for development of next-generation medical devices such as bioresorbable stents or scaffolds(BRSs).In particular,it is urgent to establish a nondestructive approach to examine in vivo degradation of a new-generation coronary stent for interventional treatment based on mammal experiments;otherwise it is not available to semi-quantitatively monitor biodegradation in any clinical trial.Herein,we put forward a semi-quantitative approach to measure degradation of a sirolimus-eluting iron bioresorbable scaffold(IBS)based on optical coherence tomography(OCT)images;this approach was confirmed to be consistent with the present weight-loss measurements,which is,however,a destructive approach.The IBS was fabricated by a metal-polymer composite technique with a polylactide coating on an iron stent.The efficacy as a coronary stent of this new bioresorbable scaffold was compared with that of a permanent metal stent with the name of trade mark Xience,which has been widely used in clinic.The endothelial coverage on IBS was found to be greater than on Xience after implantation in a rabbit model;and our well-designed ultrathin stent exhibited less individual variation.We further examined degradation of the IBSs in both minipig coronary artery and rabbit abdominal aorta models.The present result indicated much faster iron degradation of IBS in the rabbit model than in the porcine model.The semi-quantitative approach to detect biodegradation of IBS and the finding of the species difference might be stimulating for fundamental investigation of biodegradable implants and clinical translation of the next-generation coronary stents.Wenjiao Lin Hongjie Zhang Wanqian Zhang Haiping Qi Gui Zhang Jie Qian Xin Li Li Qin Haifeng Li Xiang Wang Hong Qiu Xiaoli Shi Wei Zheng Deyuan Zhang Runlin Gao Jiandong Ding 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,4:3
3Succinate dehydrogenase SDH1–1 positively regulates cotton resistance to Verticillium dahliae through a salicylic acid pathway显示文摘Background:Verticillium wilt,caused by the soil-borne fungus of Verticillium dahliae Kleb.,is one of the most devastating diseases of cotton.The complex mechanism underlying cotton resistance to Verticillium wilt remains uncharacterized.Identifying an endogenous resistance gene may be helpful to control this disease.Previous studies revealed that succinate dehydrogenase(SDH)is involved in reactive oxygen species(ROS)-induced stress signaling pathway that is likely to be triggered by salicylic acid(SA).Here,through the metabolomics and differential expression analyses in wilt-inoculated cotton(Gossypium hirsutum),we noticed that Gh SDH1–1 gene in cotton may play an important role in the resistance to V.dahlia.Then we reported Gh SDH1–1 gene and its functional analysis in relation to the resistance of cotton to V.dahliae.Results:The Gh SDH1–1 gene in cotton root was significantly up-regulated after V.dahlia inoculation,and its expression level peaked at 12 and 24 h post-infection.SA can also induce the up-regulation of Gh SDH1–1.Additionally,the functional analysis showed that Gh SDH1–1-silenced cotton was more susceptible to V.dahliae than the control because of the significant decrease in abundance of immune-related molecules and severe damage to the SA-signaling pathway.In Arabidopsis thaliana,high expression of Gh SDH1–1 conferred high resistance to V.dahliae.Arabidopsis that overexpressed Gh SDH1–1 had higher resistance to V.dahliae infection compared with the wild-type.Conclusions:Our findings provide new insights into the role of Gh SDH1–1;it positively regulates cotton resistance to Verticillium wilt.The regulatory mechanism of Gh SDH1–1 is closely related to SA-related signaling pathway.ZHANG Xiangyue FENG Zili ZHAO Lihong LIU Shichao WEI Feng SHI Yongqiang FENG Hongjie ZHU Heqin 2020Journal of Cotton Research2020,3,2:3
4Photonic integrated spiking neuron chip based on a self-pulsating DFB laser with a saturable absorber显示文摘We proposed and experimentally demonstrated a simple and novel photonic spiking neuron based on a distributed feedback(DFB)laser chip with an intracavity saturable absorber(SA).The DFB laser with an intracavity SA(DFBSA)contains a gain region and an SA region.The gain region is designed and fabricated by the asymmetric equivalentπ-phase shift based on the reconstruction-equivalent-chirp technique.Under properly injected current in the gain region and reversely biased voltage in the SA region,periodic self-pulsation was experimentally observed due to the Q-switching effect.The self-pulsation frequency increases with the increase of the bias current and is within the range of several gigahertz.When the bias current is below the self-pulsation threshold,neuronlike spiking responses appear when external optical stimulus pulses are injected.Experimental results show that the spike threshold,temporal integration,and refractory period can all be observed in the fabricated DFB-SA chip.To numerically verify the experimental findings,a time-dependent coupled-wave equation model was developed,which described the physics processes inside the gain and SA regions.The numerical results agree well with the experimental measurements.We further experimentally demonstrated that the weighted sum output can readily be encoded into the self-pulsation frequency of the DFB-SA neuron.We also benchmarked the handwritten digit classification task with a simple single-layer fully connected neural network.By using the experimentally measured dependence of the self-pulsation frequency on the bias current in the gain region as an activation function,we can achieve a recognition accuracy of 92.2%,which bridges the gap between the continuous valued artificial neural networks and spike-based neuromorphic networks.To the best of our knowledge,this is the first experimental demonstration of a photonic integrated spiking neuron based on a DFB-SA,which shows great potential to realizing large-scale multiwavelength photonic spiking neural network chips.YUECHUN SHI SHUIYING XIANG XINGXING GUO YAHUI ZHANG HONGJI WANG DIANZHUANG ZHENG YUNA ZHANG YANAN HAN YONG ZHAO XIAOJUN ZHU XIANGFEI CHEN XUN LI YUE HAO 2023Photonics Research2023,11,8:2

6Experimental demonstration of coherent photonic neural computing based on a Fabry–Perot laser with a saturable absorber显示文摘As Moore’s law has reached its limits,it is becoming increasingly difficult for traditional computing architectures to meet the demands of continued growth in computing power.Photonic neural computing has become a promising approach to overcome the von Neuman bottleneck.However,while photonic neural networks are good at linear computing,it is difficult to achieve nonlinear computing.Here,we propose and experimentally demonstrate a coherent photonic spiking neural network consisting of Mach–Zehnder modulators(MZMs)as the synapse and an integrated quantum-well Fabry–Perot laser with a saturable absorber(FP-SA)as the photonic spiking neuron.Both linear computation and nonlinear computation are realized in the experiment.In such a coherent architecture,two presynaptic signals are modulated and weighted with two intensity modulation MZMs through the same optical carrier.The nonlinear neuron-like dynamics including temporal integration,threshold,and refractory period are successfully demonstrated.Besides,the effects of frequency detuning on the nonlinear neuron-like dynamics are also explored,and the frequency detuning condition is revealed.The proposed hardware architecture plays a foundational role in constructing a large-scale coherent photonic spiking neural network.DIANZHUANG ZHENG SHUIYING XIANG XINGXING GUO YAHUI ZHANG BILING GU HONGJI WANG ZHENZHEN XU XIAOJUN ZHU YUECHUN SHI YUE HAO 2023Photonics Research2023,11,1:2

9Mapping of wheat stripe rust resistance gene Yr041133 by BSR-Seq analysis显示文摘Puccinia striiformis Westend. f. sp. tritici(Pst) pathotype CYR34 is widely virulent and prevalent in China.Here, we report identification of a strpie rust resistance(Yr) gene, designated Yr041133, in winter wheat line 041133. This line produced a hypersensitive reaction to CYR34 and conferred resistance to 13 other pathotypes. Resistance to CYR34 in line 041133 was controlled by a single dominant gene. Bulked segregant RNA sequencing(BSR-Seq) was performed on a pair of RNA bulks generated by pooling resistant and susceptible recombinant inbred lines. Yr041133 was mapped to a 1.7 c M genetic interval on the chromosome arm 7 BL that corresponded to a 0.8 Mb physical interval(608.9–609.7 Mb) in the Chinese Spring reference genome. 10A new scattering similarity based metric for ship detection in polarimetric synthetic aperture radar image显示文摘A new paradigm for ship detection in polarimetric synthetic aperture radar(Pol-SAR)image is presented.We firstly utilize the scattering similarity parameters to investigate the differences of scattering mechanism between ships and sea clutter.Based on these differences,we propose a novel ship detection metric,denoted as the scattering similarity based metric(SSM),to conduct ship detection task.The distribution model of SSM metric is investigated and modeled by kernel density estimation(KDE).Based on the statistical distribution,an adaptive constant false alarm rate(CFAR)detection scheme is implemented.We compare the proposed SSM with two classic polarimetric metrics,i.e.,the polarimetric cross-entropy(PCE)and the reflection symmetry metric(RSM).The experimental results conducted on C-band RADARSAT-2 Pol-SAR data demonstrate the feasibility and advantage of the proposed SSM metric both in sea clutter modeling and in ship detection.Haitao Lang Yunhong Tao Lihui Niu Hongji Shi 2020Acta Oceanologica Sinica2020,39,5:1

17Fabric-substrated capacitive biopotential sensors enhanced by dielectric nanoparticles显示文摘Wearable biopotential sensing devices are essential to long-term and real-time monitoring of human health.Non-contact,capacitive sensing electrodes prevent potential skin iritations,and are thus beneficial for long-term monitoring.Existing capacitive electrodes are either connected to a separate control circuit via external wires or have limited sensing capacitances,which leads to low signal qualities.This study demonstrates a stretchable capacitive sensing device with integrated electrodes and control electronics,with enhanced signal qualities.The electrodes and the control electronics are fabricated on a common fabric substrate for breathability and strain-limiting protection.The stretchable electrodes are based on an island-bridge design with a stretchability as high as-100%,and an area ratio as high as-80%.By using a dielectric calcium copper titanate(CCTO)composite as the adhesive layer,the electrode capacitance can be increased,yielding an enhanced signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)in the acquired biopotentials.This device offers a convenient and comfortable approach for long-term non-contact monitoring of biopotential signals.Xiangjun Chen Xiaoxiang Gao Akihiro Nomoto Keren Shi Muyang Lin Hongjie Hu Yue Gu Yangzhi Zhu Zhuohong Wu Xue Chen Xinyu Wang Baiyan Qi Sai Zhou Hong Ding Sheng Xu 2021Nano Research2021,14,9:1
18Influence of Climate on Soil Organic Carbon in Chinese Paddy Soils显示文摘Soil organic carbon(SOC) is a major component of the global carbon cycle and has a potentially large impact on the greenhouse effect. Paddy soils are important agricultural soils worldwide, especially in Asia. Thus, a better understanding of the relationship between SOC of paddy soils and climate variables is crucial to a robust understanding of the potential effect of climate change on the global carbon cycle. A soil profile data set(n = 1490) from the Second National Soil Survey of China conducted from 1979 to 1994 was used to explore the relationships of SOC density with mean annual temperature(MAT) and mean annual precipitation(MAP) in six soil regions and eight paddy soil subgroups. Results showed that SOC density of paddy soils was negatively correlated with MAT and positively correlated with MAP(P < 0.01). The relationships of SOC density with MAT and MAP were weak and varied among the six soil regions and eight paddy soil subgroups. A preliminary assessment of the response of SOC in Chinese paddy soils to climate indicated that climate could lead to a 13% SOC loss from paddy soils. Compared to other soil regions, paddy soils in Northern China will potentially more sensitive to climate change over the next several decades. Paddy soils in Middle and Lower Yangtze River Basin could be a potential carbon sink.
