| 5 | Preliminary report on methane emissions from the Three Gorges Reservoir in the summer drainage period显示文摘Recently reported summertime methane (CH4) emissions (6.7 ± 13.3 mg CH4/(m2·hr)) from newly created marshes in the drawdown area of the Three Gorges Reservoir (TGR), China have triggered broad concern in academic circles and among the public. The CH4 emissions from TGR water surfaces and drawdown areas were monitored from 3rd June to 16th October 2010 with floating and static chambers and gas chromatography. The average CH4 emission flux from permanently flooded areas in Zigui, Wushan and Yunyang Counties was (0.33 ± 0.09) mg CH4/(m2·hr). In half of these hottest months of the year, the wilderness, cropland and deforested drawdown sites were aerobic and located above water level, and the CH4 emissions were very small, ranging from a sink at 0.12 mg CH4/(m2·hr) to a source at 0.08 mg CH4/(m2·hr) except for one mud-covered site after flood. Mean CH4 emission in flooded drawdown sites was 0.34 mg CH4/(m2·hr). The emissions from the rice paddy sites in the drawdown area were averaged at (4.86 ± 2.31) mg CH4/(m2·hr). Excepting the rice-paddy sites, these results show much lower emission levels than previously reported. Our results indicated considerable spatial and temporal variation in CH4 emissions from the TGR. Human activities and occasional events, such as flood, may also affect emission levels. | 6 | Structural feature and its significance of the northernmost segment of the Tertiary Biluoxueshan-Chongshan shear zone,east of the Eastern Himalayan Syntaxis显示文摘Here we describe ductile,ductile-brittle and brittle deformation styles in the northern segment of the Tertiary Biluoxue-shan-Chongshan shear zone lying to the east of the Eastern Himalayan Syntaxis.In the northernmost part of the zone in the vicinity of the Eastern Himalayan Syntaxis,it consists of mylonitic gneiss,granite,and schist.Based on field relations andmineral assemblages,the rocks are classified into gneiss belt in the west limb,including banded gneiss,augen mylonite and migmatite gneiss,and schist belt in the east limb.Except for the massive granite pluton,the other three tectonites are affected by polystage deformation (D1-D4).Fold deformation of the first stage D1 is isoclinal to tight pattern with nearly N-S fold axes and steeply axial planar cleavage S1,which resulted in the local crustal thickening under a contractive setting.D2 overprinted D1 and is characterized by tight folds with steep axes and N-S fold axial planar,which are also characterized by large-scale ductile strike-slip shear foliation S2,parallel to the nearly N-S trending axial planes of D1 and D2.The structural pattern of D2 represents a transpression along the zone.D3 occurred during the late stage of the transpression or post-transpression,produc-ing the NW-SE and NE-SW trending strike-slip faults of the third stage D3.Following the D3 deformation,the zone was ex-humed to shallow crustal level where the various tectonites underwent a brittle transtensional deformation D4,combined with one N-S trending strike-slip component and one normal faulting component.Structures and previous geochronologies presented in the paper suggest that the study area is correlated with those in the adjacent tectonic zones,Ailaoshan-Red River shear zone and Gaoligong shear zone in the western Yunnan.It underwent intensive polyphase deformation,namely,crustal thickening,transpression,and transtension,responding to syn-collision and post-collision of India-Eurasia from 65 Ma to current period east of the Eastern Himalayan Syntaxis. | ZHANG Bo ZHANG JinJiang ZHONG DaLai WANG XiaoXian QU JunFeng GUO Lei | 2011 | Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,7: | 11 |
| 7 | The Exhumation History of North Qaidam Thrust Belt Constrained by Apatite Fission Track Thermochronology:Implication for the Evolution of the Tibetan Plateau显示文摘Determining the spatio-temporal distribution of the deformation tied to the India-Eurasian convergence and the impact of pre-existing weaknesses on the Cenozoic crustal deformation is significant for understanding how the convergence between India and Eurasia contributed to the development of the Tibetan Plateau. The exhumation history of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau was addressed in this research using a new apatite fission track(AFT) study in the North Qaidam thrust belt(NQTB). Three granite samples collected from the Qaidam Shan pluton in the north tied to the Qaidam Shan thrust, with AFT ages clustering in the Eocene to Miocene. The other thirteen samples obtained from the Luliang Shan and Yuka plutons in the south related to the Luliang Shan thrust and they have showed predominantly the Cretaceous AFT ages. Related thermal history modeling based on grain ages and track lengths indicates rapid cooling events during the Eocene-early Oligocene and since late Miocene within the Qaidam Shan, in contrast to those in the Cretaceous and since the Oligocene-Miocene in the Luliang Shan and Yuka region. The results, combined with published the Cretaceous thermochronological ages in the Qaidam Shan region, suggest that the NQTB had undergo rapid exhumation during the accretions along the southern Asian Andean-type margin prior to the India-Eurasian collision. The Cenozoic deformation initially took place in the North Qaidam thrust belt by the Eocene, which is consistent with the recent claim that the deformation of the northeastern Tibetan Plateau initiated in the Eocene as a response to continental collision between India and Eurasia. | 10 | Ecological risk assessment of Cd and other heavy metals in soil-rice system in the karst areas with high geochemical background of Guangxi,China显示文摘Karst areas are widely distributed in China,and the soil derived in these areas is enriched with trace elements and has the typical characteristics of high geochemical background.Therefore,soil ecological risk has gradually attracted extensive attention.In this study,1090 sets of rice grains and paired rhizosphere soils were collected as research objects from the outcropped karst areas of carbonate rocks in Guangxi,and the concentration characteristics and influencing factors of heavy metals,such as Cd and As,in rice grains and the corresponding soils were studied.According to the Chinese Soil Environmental Quality Standard(GB 15618-2018),the proportion of karstic soil samples in Guangxi with heavy metal(As,Cd,Cr,Cu,Hg,Ni,Pb and Zn)concentrations that exceed the standard risk screening values was generally greater than that of surface soils in China or non-karstic soils in Guangxi.Notably,Cd and As were the most prominently enriched heavy metals in soils.According to the Chinese Food Safety Standard(GB 2762-2017),Pb in rice grains from the studied area did not exceed the standard;the exceedance rates of Cr,Hg,and inorganic As were only about 1%;and the exceedance rate of Cd was 12.5%.Soil Cd concentration increased gradually whereas the concentration and exceedance rate of Cd in rice grains decreased gradually with the increase of soil pH.Specifically,the exceedance rate of Cd in rice grains was only 4%when soil pH>6.5.The results indicated that the risk screening values of Cd element in the Chinese Soil Environmental Quality Standard are not satisfactorily applicable to the ecological risk assessment of Cd in karstic soils.Therefore,the recommended threshold values for the safe utilization and risk control of Cd in karstic soils was proposed so as to provide a basis for soil environmental quality hierarchization,pollution risk control and land safety zoning of agricultural land in karst areas in China. | Qiong YANG Zhongfang YANG Qizuan ZHANG Xu LIU Xiaoxiong ZHUO Tiansheng WU Lei WANG Xueji WEI Junfeng JI | 2021 | Science China Earth Sciences2021,64,7: | 5 |

However, the internal flow field in the internal-loop reactor is influenced by the structure parameter of the reactor, which has a great effect on the reaction efficiency. In this study, the computational fluid dynamics simulation method was used to determine the influence of reactor structure on flow field, and a volume-offluid model was employed to simulate the gas–liquid, two-phase flow of the internal-loop micro-electrolysis reactor. Hydrodynamic factors were optimized when the height-to-diameter ratio was 4:1, diameter ratio was9:1, draft-tube axial height was 90 mm. Three-dimensional simulations for the water distributor were carried out, and the results suggested that the optimal conditions are as follows: the number of water distribution pipes was four, and an inhomogeneous water distribution was used. | 17 | Genetic causes of oil-rich and oil-poor reservoirs: Implications from two Cenozoic basins in the eastern North China Craton显示文摘The Bohai Bay and Hehuai(southern North China) rift basins in the eastern part of the North China Craton are southnorth-adjacent. They have shown synchronous evolutionary processes, and possess generally identical superficial and shallow structural characteristics as well as similar basin areas. However, there is a large difference in the richness of oil resources between the two basins. The Bohai Bay Basin has extremely abundant oil reserves, while commercial oil reserves have not been found in the Hehuai Basin. The deep tectonic structures, magmatic activities, and modern and paleo-geothermal fields of the two basins are significantly different. Compared with the Hehuai Basin, the Bohai Bay Basin has a thinner crust and more complex structure with multiple low-velocity layers. It is also characterized by intense magmatic activity, high modern and paleogeothermal fields, frequent seismic activity, and active deep interactions, small effective elastic thickness of the isotropic lithosphere, and shorter balanced transformation wavelength of the lithosphere with a high likelihood of local compensation. The Hehuai Basin has a simple deep structure and homogeneous crustal composition, with a high likelihood of regional compensation. The characteristics of the deep structures mentioned above are generally similar to those of the southern part of the stable Ordos Basin, except for the smaller crust thickness. This indicates the presence of differences in Mesozoic destruction between the southern and northern zones in the eastern part of the North China Craton. The northern zone was subjected to significant destruction, while the southern zone was subjected to modifications, primarily in the form of local changes in the structures and/or properties of the crust or lithospheric mantle, with the overall structure and stability of the craton kept intact. The formation of high-quality source rock is primarily influenced by the abnormal flourishment of organisms in water bodies during the syndepositional period, and is also strongly associated with the high geothermal setting of basins and nutrients from hydrothermal solutions and volcanoes. In other words, it is mainly controlled by deep processes and deep-major fault activity. The differences in the deep structures and modern and paleo geothermal fields of the two basins correspond to the difference in richness of oil resources, suggesting that there is an important internal or causal relationship between the two aspects. This viewpoint coincides with the conditions and environments required for the development of high-quality source rock in hydrocarbon-rich basins(sags)in China and other countries, and is evidenced by the modern lake basin of the East African Rift. | 18 | Pressureless crystallization of glass toward scintillating composite with high crystallinity for radiation detection显示文摘The construction of scintillating ceramics is of great technological importance for various fundamental applications, including medical diagnostic, security inspection, resource exploration and particle physics. The chief challenge is the facile and scalable synthesis of scintillating ceramics with the desirable combination of pore-free, reliable mechanical properties and excellent scintillating performance. Here we present a pressureless glass crystallization strategy for the construction of scintillating composite with high crystallinity. The fabricated scintillating composites are featured by small optical turbidity, excellent mechanical properties, and efficient scintillating luminescence with the scintillating light yield of 15,000 pH/MeV and about 2.46 times higher than that of the commercial BGO single crystal. Moreover, the scintillating composite derived radiation detector device is successfully elaborated. The practical application for monitoring gamma ray is demonstrated and the precision of the device is less than that of the tolerable deviation of 30%. | 19 | Characteristics of bleaching of sandstone in northeast of Ordos Basin and its relationship with natural gas leakage显示文摘Bleaching of sandstone has significant applications to tracing hydrocarbon pathways and evaluating the scale of natural gas seepage. Bleaching of sandstones in the northeast of Ordos Basin is mainly distributed in the Mesozoic Yan'an Formation. Studying on petrology, major elements, REEs and trace elements of bleached sandstones and comparing with adjacent sandstones, combining with geologic-geochemical evidences of gas seepage in the northeast of the basin, the bleached sandstones are formed in the acid environment and reducing fluids. Characteristics of petrology show that the contents of kaolinite are high and the color of margin of ferric oxide minerals is lighter than that of the center. Major elements of sandstone samples show high contents of Al2O3 and low ratio of Fe3+/Fe2+. The TFe2O3 content of the bleached sandstone is lower than that of red rock. REE data show that bleached sandstones have low ∑REE contents and Eu-depleted and slightly Ce-enriched. Trace elements show that the bleached sandstones enrich in Co, deplete in Sr, and slightly enrich in Zr and Hf which are close to the values for the green alteration sandstones, and slightly lower than ore-bearing sandstones. Geochemical characteristics of oil-bearing sandstone in the northern basin suggest that the oil-shows are formed by matured Carboniferous-Permian coal bed methane escaping to the surface, and natural gas in field could migrate to the north margin of the basin. The δ13C (PDB) andδ18O(PDB) values of calcite cement in the study area range from -11.729‰ to -10.210‰ and -14.104‰ to -12.481‰, respectively. Theδ13C (PDB) values less than -10‰ imply the carbon sources part from organic carbon. | 20 | Removal of toxic metal ions using chitosan coated carbon nanotube composites for supercapacitors显示文摘Environmental pollution and energy crisis are two major global challenges to human beings.Recovering energy from wastewater is considered to be one of the effective approaches to address these two issues synchronously.As the main pollutants in wastewater,toxic heavy metal ions are the potential candidates for energy storage devices with pseudocapacitive behaviors.In this study,toxic metal ions of Cr(VI)and Cu(II)are removed efficiently by chitosan coated oxygen-containing functional carbon nanotubes,and the corresponding equilibrium adsorption capacity is 142.1 and 123.7 mg g^(-1).Followed by carbonization of metal ions-adsorbed adsorbents,Cu-and Cr N-loaded carbon composites can be obtained.Electrochemical measurements show that the supercapacitor electrodes based on Cu-and Cr N-loaded carbon composites have specific capacitance of 144.9 and 114.9 F g^(-1)at2 m V s^(-1),with superior electrochemical properties to pure chitosan coated carbon nanotubes after carbonization.This work demonstrates a new strategy for the resource-utilization of other heavy metal ions for energy devices,and also provides a new way to turn environmental pollutants into clean energy. | Pin Hao Xiaoye Ma Junfeng Xie Fengcai Lei Liyi Li Wenqian Zhu Xin Cheng Guanwei Cui Bo Tang | 2018 | Science China Chemistry2018,61,7: | 2 |
