1Climate and litter C/N ratio constrain soil organic carbon accumulation显示文摘Soil organic carbon(SOC) plays critical roles in stabilizing atmospheric CO2 concentration, but the mechanistic controls on the amount and distribution of SOC on global scales are not well understood. In turn, this has hampered the ability to model global C budgets and to find measures to mitigate climate change. Here, based on the data from a large field survey campaign with 2600 plots across China’s forest ecosystems and a global collection of published data from forested land, we find that a low litter carbon-to-nitrogen ratio(C/N) and high wetness index(P/PET, precipitation-to-potentialevapotranspiration ratio) are the two factors that promote SOC accumulation, with only minor contributions of litter quantity and soil texture. The field survey data demonstrated that high plant diversity decreased litter C/N and thus indirectly promoted SOC accumulation by increasing the litter quality. We conclude that any changes in plant-community composition, plant-species richness and environmental factors that can reduce the litter C/N ratio, or climatic changes that increase wetness index, may promote SOC accumulation. 2Structure of the Upper Mantle and Transition Zone Beneath the South China Block Imaged by Finite Frequency Tomography显示文摘We applied the finite frequency tomography method to S wave data recorded by 350 broadband stations beneath the South China Block(SCB) and its surroundings from earthquakes occurring between July 2007 and July 2010,to better understand upper mantle deformation.Differential travel-times in the pair of stations with appropriate weighting for each station are used in the inversion.Our results are consistent with previous tomography that show a high velocity anomaly beneath the Sichuan basin and a high velocity anomaly in the transition zone beneath the Yangtze Craton.However,the resolution of mantle heterogeneity provides new insight into the tectonic framework of subduction of Burmese lithosphere in the west part of the study region and subduction of oceanic lithosphere in the east.In the subduction realm,west of 107°E,a significant fast S-wave anomaly is located on the southeast of Sichuan Basin.East of 107°E,and two narrow and discontinuous fast S-wave anomalies occur at a depth of 400-600 km beneath the middle of the South China block overlain by the pronounced low S-wave anomalies at a depth of 100 and 400 km.If the fast anomalies located in the mantle transition zone represent stagnant slabs,their fragmented nature may suggest that they could be produced by different episodes of subduction beneath western Pacific island and the above slow velocity anomaly may associated with the back-arc regions of ongoing subduction.In addition,tomography also reveals an anomalously high S-wave velocity continental root extends eastward to a depth 400 km beneath the eastern Sichuan Basin.This anomaly may be related to eastern extrusion of Indian lithosphere associated with the collision of India and Eurasia.Moreover,our results also show large slow anomalies beneath the Red River fault region connected to deeper anomalies beneath the South China Fold Belt and South China Sea.AH these observations are consistent with the scenario that the South China block has been built by both of subduction of Paleopacific plate and eastward subduction of Burma microplate.SUN Ya LIU Jianxin TANG Youcai CHEN Jiawei ZHOU Keping CHEN Bo 2016Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2016,90,5:8

8Theoretical analysis of PAM-N and M-QAM BER computation with single-sideband signal显示文摘In this paper,the theoretical bit error rate(BER)of N-level pulse amplitude modulation(PAMN)and M-ary quadrature amplitude modulation(M-QAM)have been studied and compared under different scenarios,including(i)PAM with intensity modulation with direct detection(IM/DD)and field modulation with detection(FMD)(including coherent detection and single-sideband modulation with direct detection(SSB-DD)),and(ii)QAM with coherent detection and SSB-DD.Considering the relationship between the symbol spacing and signal-to-noise ratio(SNR),we provide the mathematical BER equations,including the optical signal-to-noise ratio(OSNR)and carrier-to-signal power ratio(CSPR),especially for PAM signals.To verify the validity of our theoretical expressions for SSB systems,transmissions with 224-Gb/s SSBPAM4/16QAM signals using the Kramers-Kronig(KK)receiver were implemented on a unified optical system platform.The simulation results agreed well with theoretical calculations both in back-to-back(BtB)and 120-km transmission scenarios,which showed that the BER evaluation methods can serve as a theoretical guidance and system assessment criteria for SSB scenarios.Dongxu LU Xian ZHOU Yuqiang YANG Jiahao HUO Jinhui YUAN Keping LONG Changyuan YU Alan Pak Tao LAU Chao LU 2021Science China(Information Sciences)2021,64,8:1

15Analyzing and evaluating the three-line rail traffic显示文摘In this paper, we propose a method to simulate the three-line rail traffic. The aim is to evaluate the carrying capacity of the three-line rail traffic by studying the rail traffic flow when the passenger flow is unsymmetrical. The simulation results demonstrate that under the unsymmetrical condition, the three-line rail traffic system has almost the same carrying capacity as that of a four-line rail traffic system. Compared with the four-line rail traffic system, the three-line rail traffic system has better utilization of rail line. 16Theoretical and numerical analyses for PDM-IM signals using Stokes vector receivers显示文摘Different from current coherent-detection-based long-haul transmission systems,inter-and intradatacenter transmissions require a simpler transmitter and receiver.A promising way to significantly meet the demands of datacenter transmission is polarization division multiplexing intensity modulation with direct detection(PDM-IM-DD)using a Stokes vector receiver(SVR).However,for different SVR architectures,the corresponding demultiplexing matrix is required to recover the Stokes vectors from the detected signals,which are combined with an arbitrary state of polarization(SOP),will change the effect of noise dynamically and significantly influence the system performance.In this study,PDM-IM signals using four SVRs,i.e.,a 90°optical hybrid with 2 balanced photodetectors(BPDs)and 2 photodetectors(PDs),a 90?optical hybrid with 4 PDs,a Stokes analyzer and a 3×3 coupler with 4 PDs,are studied theoretically and numerically.Theoretical system models using the four SVRs are developed,and the noise power variations are analyzed quantitatively based on these models.Moreover,the performance of the systems is also investigated for 224 Gbit/s polarization division multiplexing pulse amplitude modulation 4 level with direct detection(PDM-PAM4-DD)transmission in a simulation.The simulation results show that the bit error rate(BER)performance of the systems is consistent with the theoretical noise power variation curves.The theoretical analysis scheme is helpful for the practical design of SVR-based systems.Jiahao HUO Xian ZHOU Chao SHANG Wei HUANGFU Jinhui YUAN Huansheng NING Keping LONG Changyuan YU Alan Pak Tao LAU Chao LU 2020Science China(Information Sciences)2020,63,10:0
17Biomass valorization via electrocatalytic carbon–carbon bond cleavage显示文摘Renewable electrocatalytic upgrading of biomass feedstocks into valuable chemicals is one of the promising strategies to relieve the pressure of traditional energy-based systems.Through electrocatalytic carbon–carbon bond cleavage of high selectivity,various functionalized molecules,such as organic acids,amides,esters,and nitriles,have great potential to be accessed from biomass.However,it has merely received finite concerns and interests in the biorefinery.This review first showcases the research progress on the electrocatalytic conversion of lipid/sugar-and lignin-derived molecules(e.g.,glycerol,mesoerythritol,xylose,glucose,1-phenylethanol,and cyclohexanol)into organic acids via specific carbon–carbon bond scission processes,with focus on disclosing reaction mechanisms,recognizing actual active species,and collecting feasible modification strategies.For the guidance of further extensive studies on biomass valorization,organic transformations via a variety of reactions,including decarboxylation,ring-opening,rearrangement,reductive hydrogenation,and carboxylation,are also disclosed for the construction of similar carbon skeletons/scaffolds.The remaining challenges,prospective applications,and future objectives in terms of biomass conversion are also proposed.This review is expected to provide references to develop renewed electrocatalytic carbon–carbon bond cleavage transformation paths/strategies for biomass upgrading.Keping Wang Zhenyan Guo Min Zhou Ying Yang Lanyun Li Hu Li Rafael Luque Shunmugavel Saravanamurugan 2024Journal of Energy Chemistry2024,91,4:0
18SYNTHESIS AND ANTIPROLIFERATIVE ACTIVITY STUDY OF NOVEL COUMARIN DERIVATIVES显示文摘A series of coumarin derivatives(A01-A13) have been designed and synthesized, and their biological activities were evaluated in vitro in 5 different cell lines: Liver hepatocellular cells(HepG2), breast cancer cells(MCF-7), human malignant melanoma cells(A375), human colonic carcinoma(HT-29) and non-small cell lung cancer cells(A549). Furthermore, A05 was screened in kinase sets and the results showed that the possible targets of it were MST3/STK24 and TNIK. Compounds A01 and A05 displayed the most potent antiproliferative activities in vitro, which suggested that the picolinamide moiety was important for antiproliferative activities. 19Dynamic behaviors of water-saturated and frozen sandstone subjected to freeze-thaw cycles显示文摘In high-altitude cold areas,freeze-thaw(F-T)cycles induced by day-night and seasonal temperature changes cause numerous rock mass slope engineering disasters.To investigate the dynamic properties of rock in the natural environment of a high-altitude cold area,standard specimens were drilled from the slope of the Jiama copper mine in Tibet,and dynamic compression tests were performed on watersaturated and frozen sandstone with different numbers of F-T cycles(0,10,20,30,and 40)by the split Hopkinson pressure bar(SHPB)system with a cryogenic control system.The influence of water-saturated and frozen conditions on the dynamic performance of sandstone was investigated.The following conclusions are drawn:(1)With increasing strain rate,the attenuation factor(la)of water-saturated sandstone and the intensifying factor(li)of frozen sandstone linearly increase.As the number of F-T cycles increases,the dependence factor(ld)of water-saturated sandstone linearly decreases,whereas the ld of frozen sandstone linearly increases.(2)The prediction equation of the dynamic compressive strength of water-saturated and frozen sandstone is obtained,which can be used to predict the dynamic compressive strength of sandstone after various F-T cycles based on the strain rate.(3)The mesoscopic mechanism of water-saturated and frozen sandstone’s dynamic compressive strength evolution is investigated.The water softening effect causes the dynamic compressive strength of water-saturated sandstone to decrease,whereas the strengthening effect of pore ice causes it to increase.(4)The decrease in the relative dynamic compressive strength of water-saturated sandstone and the increase in the relative dynamic compressive strength of frozen sandstone can be attributed to the increased porosity.Feng Gao Cong Li Xin Xiong Yanan Zhang Keping Zhou 2023Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering2023,15,6:0
