| 3 | Effectiveness of Different Waist Circumference Cut-off Values in Predicting Metabolic Syndrome Prevalence and Risk Factors in Adults in China显示文摘Objective To study the effectiveness of waist circumference cut-off values in predicting the prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MetS) and risk factors in adults in China. Methods A cross-sectional survey was condcuted in 14 provinces(autonomous region, municipality) in China. A total of 47 325 adults aged ≥20 years were selected by multistage stratified sampling, and questionnaire survey and physical and clinical examination were conducted among them. MetS was defined according to the International Diabetes Federation(IDF) criteria and modified IDF criteria.Results The age-standardized prevalence of MetS was 24.2%(22.1% in men and 25.8% in women) and 19.5%(22.1% in men and 18.0% in women) according to the IDF criteria and modified IDF criteria respectively. The age-standardized prevalence of pre-MetS was 8.1%(8.6% in men and 7.8% in women) according to the modified IDF criteria. The prevalence of MetS was higher in urban residents than rural residents and in northern China residents than in southern China residents. The prevalence of central obesity was about 30% in both men and women according to the ethnicity-specific cut-off values of waist circumference for central obesity(90 cm for men and 85 cm for women). Multivariate regression analysis revealed no significant difference in risk factors between the two MetS definitions. | 4 | Short-term entecavir versus lamivudine therapy for HBeAg-negative patients with acute-on-chronic hepatitis B liver failure显示文摘BACKGROUND: Selection of drugs for antiviral therapy of patients with hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) remains difficult. This study was undertaken to evaluate the short-term efficacy of entecavir versus lamivudine on hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg)-negative patients with ACLF. METHODS: The data of 182 HBeAg-negative patients with ACLF were retrospectively collected from patient profiles of the hospital. In these patients, 93 HBeAg-negative patients with ACLF were treated orally with 0.5 mg of entecavir and 89 were treated orally with 100 mg of lamivudine every day. The gender and age were matched between the two groups. Biochemical items, the model for end-stage liver disease (MELD) score, and HBV DNA level were matched at baseline between the two groups and monitored during treatment. The 3-month mortalities of the two groups were compared. RESULTS: No significant differences were found in biochemical items, MELD score, and HBV DNA level at baseline (P>0.05). HBV DNA level decreased within 3 months in both groups (P<0.05), regardless of the pretreatment MELD score. In patients with the same range of pretreatment MELD scores, treatment duration, posttreatment HBV DNA levels, percentage of HBV DNA level <2.7 lg copies/mL, biochemical items, MELD scores and 3-month mortality were similar in the two groups (all P>0.05). Pretreatment MELD score was not related to posttreatment HBV DNA levels (P>0.05), but related to a 3-month mortality in both groups (both P<0.001).CONCLUSIONS: In HBeAg-negative patients with ACLF, the short-term efficacy of entecavir versus lamivudine was similar. | 6 | Water regime-nitrogen fertilizer incorporation interaction:Field study on methane and nitrous oxide emissions from a rice agroecosystem in Harbin, China显示文摘Water regime and nitrogen(N) fertilizer are two important factors impacting greenhouse gases(GHG) emission from paddy field, whereas their effects have not been well studied in cold region. In this study, we conducted a two-year field experiment to study the impacts of water regime and N fertilizer on rice yields and GHG emissions in Harbin, China, a cold region located in high latitudes. Our results showed that intermittent irrigation significantly decreased methane(CH_4) emission compared with continuous flooding, however,the decrement was far lower than the global average level. The N_2O emissions were very small when flooded but peaked at the beginning of the disappearance of floodwater. The N fertilizer treatments increased CH_4 emissions at low level(75 kg N/ha). But both CH_4 and N_2O emissions were uninfluenced at the levels of 150 kg N/ha and 225 kg N/ha. Rice yields increased under intermittent irrigation and were highest at the level of 150 kg N/ha. | 8 | Artemisinin derivatives inhibit epithelial ovarian cancer cells via autophagy-mediated cell cycle arrest显示文摘Epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC)is the most fatal gynecologic malignancy due to its late diagnosis and lack of curative therapy.The antimalaria compound artemisinin and its derivatives,such as artesunate (ART)and dihydroartemisinin (DHA),have proven to be potent anticancer drugs and act through various anticancer mechanisms.To identify novel targets of artemisinin derivatives in EOC cells,we investigated the effects of ART and DHA on SKOV3 and primary EOC cell growth via CCK-8 assay.Both ART and DHA inhibited EOC cell growth.A cell cycle distribution analysis showed that ART and DHA caused G2/M cell cycle arrest.Moreover,ART and DHA induced autophagy in EOC cells,whereas autophagy inhibitors reversed the cell growth inhibition and cell cycle arrest induced by ART and DHA.Western blot analysis showed that ART and DHA also suppressed the cell cycle-related NF-κB-signaling pathway in EOC cells.These data suggest that artemisinin derivatives induce autophagy,block the cell cycle,and inhibit cell growth in EOC cells.Our research provides new targets for artemisinin derivatives for EOC treatment. | Boning Li Shixia Bu Junyan Sun Ying Guo Dongmei Lai | 2018 | Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2018,50,12: | 11 |

| 10 | Hepatic focal nodular hyperplasia in children:Imaging features on multi-slice computed tomography显示文摘AIM:To retrospectively analyze the imaging features of hepatic focal nodular hyperplasia(FNH) in children on dynamic contrast-enhanced multi-slice computed tomography(MSCT) and computed tomography angiography(CTA) images.METHODS:From September 1999 to April 2012,a total of 218 cases of hepatic FNH were confirmed by either surgical resection or biopsy in the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University and the Cancer center of Sun Yat-sen University,including 12 cases(5.5%) of FNH in children(age ≤ 18 years old).All the 12 pediatric patients underwent MSCT.We retrospectively analyzed the imaging features of FNH lesions,including the number,location,size,margin,density of FNH demonstrated on pre-contrast and contrastenhanced computed tomography(CT) scanning,central scar,fibrous septa,pseudocapsule,the morphology of the feeding arteries and the presence of draining vessels(portal vein or hepatic vein).RESULTS:All the 12 pediatric cases of FNH had solitary lesion.The maximum diameter of the lesions was 4.0-12.9 cm,with an average diameter of 5.5 ± 2.5 cm.The majority of the FNH lesions(10/12,83.3%) had well-defined margins.Central scar(10/12,83.3%) and fibrous septa(11/12,91.7%) were commonly found in children with FNH.Central scar was either isodense(n = 7) or hypodense(n = 3) on pre-contrast CT images and showed progressive enhancement in 8 cases in the equilibrium phase.Fibrous septa were linear hypodense areas in the arterial phase and isodense in the portal and equilibrium phases.Pseudocapsule was very rare(1/12,8.3%) in pediatric FNH.With the exception of central scars and fibrous septa within the lesions,all 12 cases of pediatric FNH were homogenously enhanced on the contrast-enhanced CT images,significantly hyperdense in the arterial phase(12/12,100.0%),and isodense in the portal venous phase(7/12,58.3%) and equilibrium phase(11/12,91.7%).Central feeding arteries inside the tumors were observed on CTA images for all 12 cases of FNH,whereas no neovascularization of malignant tumors was noted.In 9 cases(75.0%),there was a spoke-wheel shaped centrifugal blood supply inside the tumors.The draining hepatic vein was detected in 8 cases of pediatric FNH.However,the draining vessels in the other 4 cases could not be detected.No associated hepatic adenoma or hemangioma was observed in the livers of the 12 pediatric cases.CONCLUSION:The characteristic imaging appearances of MSCT and CTA may reflect the pathological and hemodynamic features of pediatric FNH.Dynamic multi-phase MSCT and CTA imaging is an effective method for diagnosing FNH in children. | Qing-Yu Liu Wei-Dong Zhang Dong-Ming Lai Ying Ou-yang Ming Gao Xiao-Feng Lin | 2012 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2012,18,47: | 7 |

The results show that the complex particles with a center made of Ti oxide, Al2O3, and silicate and an outside made of a small quantity of mixture of TiN and MnS are able to act as ferrite nucleation nuclei. The acicular ferrite percent- age changes little with Ti. When the oxygen content was 80 ppm, the volume percentage of acicular ferrite decreased due to an in- crease in allotriomorphic ferrite. Warming by 3.0 °C stimulated the nighttime respiration rate and decreased the photosynthesis rate, resulting in significant decreases of 21.2% and 24.9% in aboveground biomass accumulation for II You 128 and Wuyunjing 7, respectively. Warming significantly reduced the rates of seed setting and grain filling, especially of inferior kernels(those lower in panicles), while the filling rate of superior kernels remained almost unchanged. As a result, 1000-grain weight and grain yield were respectively 3.7% and 30.0% lower for II You 128 and 12.8% and 34.3% for Wuyunjing 7 in warmed plots than in the unwarmed control. Nighttime warming also significantly reduced the grain milling and appearance quality of both varieties. More negative effects of warming on inferior than on superior kernels were found. The structure and electrochemical properties of prepared cathode materials were measured using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), charge-discharge tests, cyclic voltammetry (CV), and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The measured results indicate that surface coating with 1.0 wt% Cr 2 O 3 does not affect the LiNi 1/3 Co 1/3 Mn 1/3 O 2 crystal structure (α-NaFeO 2 ) of the cathode material compared to the pristine material, the surfaces of LiNi 1/3 Co 1/3 Mn 1/3 O 2 samples are covered with Cr 2 O 3 well, and the LiNi 1/3 Co 1/3 Mn 1/3 O 2 material coated with Cr 2 O 3 has better electrochemical performance under a high cutoff voltage of 4.5 V. Moreover, at room temperature, the initial discharging capacity of LiNi 1/3 Co 1/3 Mn 1/3 O 2 material coated with 1.0 wt.% Cr 2 O 3 at 0.5C reaches 169 mAh·g 1 and the capacity retention is 83.1% after 30 cycles, while that of the bare LiNi 1/3 Co 1/3 Mn 1/3 O 2 is only 160.8 mAh·g 1 and 72.5%. | 20 | New insights on the enhanced non-hydroxyl radical contribution under copper promoted TiO_(2)/GO for the photodegradation of tetracycline hydrochloride显示文摘TiO_(2)/graphene oxide(GO)as photocatalyst in the photo-degradation of multitudinous pollutants has been extensively studied.But its low photocatalytic efficiency is attributed to the high band gap energy which lead to low light utilization.Cu-TiO_(2)/GO was synthesized via the impregnation methods to enhance the catalytic performance.The Cu-TiO_(2)/GO reaction rate constant for photo-degradation of pollutants(tetracycline hydrochloride,TC)was about 1.4 times that of TiO_(2)/GO.In 90 min,the removal ratio of Cu-TiO_(2)/GO for TC was 98%,and the maximum degradation ratio occurred at p H 5.After five cycles,the removal ratio of Cu-Ti O_(2)/GO still exceeded 98%.UV-visible adsorption spectra of Cu-Ti O_(2)/GO showed that its band gap was narrower than TiO_(2)/GO.Electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR)spectra test illustrated the generation rate of·O_(2)^(-)and·OH was higher in Cu-TiO_(2)/GO system than TiO_(2)/GO and TiO_(2) system.The contribution sequence of oxidative species was·O_(2)^(-)>holes(h+)>·OH in both TiO_(2)/GO and Cu-Ti O_(2)/GO system.Interestingly,the contribution of·OH in Cu-TiO_(2)/GO was less than that in TiO_(2)/GO during the photo-degradation process.This phenomenon was attributed to the better adsorption performance of Cu-Ti O_(2)/GO which could reduce the accessibility of TC to·OH in liquid.The enhanced non-hydroxyl radical contribution could be attributed to that the more other active species or sites on(nearby)the surface of Cu-TiO_(2)/GO generated after doping Cu.These results provide a new perspective for the tradition metal-doped conventional catalysts to enhance the removal of organic pollutants in the environment. | Sijia Qian Shengyan Pu Ying Zhang Peng Wang Yingchen Bai Bo Lai | 2021 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,2: | 4 |
