Plant abiotic stress response and nutrient use efficiency显示文摘Abiotic stresses and soil nutrient limitations are major environmental conditions that reduce plant growth, productivity and quality.Plants have evolved mechanisms to perceive these environmental challenges, transmit the stress signals within cells as well as between cells and tissues, and make appropriate adjustments in their growth and development in order to survive and reproduce. In recent years, significant progress has been made on many fronts of the stress signaling research, particularly in understanding the downstream signaling events that culminate at the activation of stress-and nutrient limitation-responsive genes, cellular ion homeostasis, and growth adjustment. However, the revelation of the early events of stress signaling, particularly the identification of primary stress sensors, still lags behind. In this review,we summarize recent work on the genetic and molecular mechanisms of plant abiotic stress and nutrient limitation sensing and signaling and discuss new directions for future studies.Zhizhong Gong Liming Xiong Huazhong Shi Shuhua Yang Luis R.Herrera-Estrella Guohua Xu Dai-Yin Chao Jingrui Li Peng-Yun Wang Feng Qin Jigang Li Yanglin Ding Yiting Shi Yu Wang Yongqing Yang Yan Guo Jian-Kang Zhu 2020Science China(Life Sciences)2020,63,5:94
The discovery of Palaeoproterozoic volcanic rocks in the Bulunkuoler Group from the Tianshuihai Massif in Xinjiang of Northwest China and its geological significance显示文摘In the Dabudaer region of the Tianshuihai Massif (Xinjiang, Northwest China), metavolcanic rocks within the mainly meta-sedimentary Bulunkuoler Group are basalt, basaltic andesite, and rhyolite. In situ zircon U-Pb LA-ICP-MS dating on rhyolite magmatic zircons yielded an age of 2481±14 Ma, interpreted as the eruption age of the Bulunkuoler Group volcanic rocks. The basalt and basaltic andesite are low-Al tholeiite series and the rhyolite is low-Al calc-alkaline series. All of rocks are charac-terized by enrichment of LREE and LILE (Rb, Th and Ba), depletion of P, Nb, Ta and Ti, and absence of Eu anomalies. The εNd(t) of basalts ranges from 3.14 to 4.88 indicating a depleted mantle source. The trace element signatures show that these magmas experienced intense crustal contamination during their ascent. Direct evidence for crustal contamination is the xenocrystic zircons in the ryholite, with ages back to ca. 3300 Ma. The primitive-mantle normalized and Zr/Y-Zr diagrams for the basic volcanic rocks show that they formed in an intra-continental tectonic setting. Combined with the previous studies and compared with North China Craton Neoarchean basic volcanic rocks, it is supposed that the Bulunkuoler Group volcanic rocks reflect the Palaeoproterozoic mantle magma underplating and interaction with felsic crust.JI WenHua LI RongShe CHEN ShouJian HE ShiPing ZHAO ZhenMing BIAN XiaoWei ZHU HaiPing CUI JiGang REN JuanGang 2011Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,1:22
Artemisinin, the Magic Drug Discovered from Traditional Chinese Medicine显示文摘Artemisinin and its derivatives represent the most important and influential class of drugs in the fight against malaria. Since the discovery of artemisinin in the early 1970s, the global community has made great strides in characterizing and understanding this remarkable phytochemical and its unique chemical and pharmacological properties. Today, even as artemisinin continues to serve as the foundation for antimalarial therapy, numerous challenges have surfaced in the continued application and development of this family of drugs. These challenges include the emergence of delayed treatment responses to artemisinins in malaria and efforts to apply artemisinins for non-malarial indications. Here, we provide an overview of the story of artemisinin in terms of its past, present, and future. In particular, we comment on the current understanding of the mechanism of action (MOA) of artemisinins, and emphasize the importance of relating mechanistic studies to therapeutic outcomes, both in malarial and non-malarial contexts.Jigang Wang Chengchao Xu Yin Kwan Wong Yujie Li Fulong Liao Tingliang Jiang Youyou Tu 2019Engineering2019,5,1:16

Cold-Induced CBF–PIF3 Interaction Enhances Freezing Tolerance by Stabilizing the phyB Thermosensor in Arabidopsis显示文摘Growth inhibition and cold-acclimation strategies help plants withstand cold stress, which adversely affects growth and survival.PHYTOCHROME B(phyB)regulates plant growth through perceiving both light and ambient temperature signals. However, the mechanism by which phyB mediates the plant response to cold stress remains elusive. Here,we show that the key transcription factors mediating cold acclimation,C-REPEAT BINDING FACTORs(CBFs),interact with PHYTOCHROME-INTERACTING FACTOR 3(PIF3)under cold stress, thus attenuating the mutually assured destruction of PIF3–phyB.Cold-stabilized phyB acts downstream of CBFs to positively regulate freezing tolerance by modulating the expression of stress-responsive and growth-related genes.Consistent with this, phyB mutants exhibited a freezing-sensitive phenotype, whereas phyB-overexpression transgenic plants displayed enhanced freezing tolerance.Further analysis showed that the PIF1,PIF4,and PIF5 proteins, all of which negatively regulate plant freezing tolerance, were destabilized by cold stress in a phytochrome-dependent manner.Collectively, our study reveals that CBFs–PIF3–phyB serves as an important regulatory module for modulating plant response to cold stress.Bochen Jiang Yiting Shi Yue Peng Yuxin Jia Yan Yan Xiaojing Dong Hui Li Jie Dong Jigang Li Zhizhong Gong Michael F.Thomashow Shuhua Yang 2020Molecular Plant2020,13,6:13
Deformation mechanism and stability control of roadway along a fault subjected to mining显示文摘It is difficult to maintain the roadway around a fault because of the fractured surroundings, complex stress environment, and large and intense deformation in the mining process.Based on a tailgate of panel S2205 in Tunliu colliery,in Shanxi province,China,we investigated the evolution of stress and displacement of rocks surrounding the roadway during the drivage and mining period using theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and field trial methods. We analyzed the deformation and failure mechanisms of the tailgate near a fault. The deformation of surrounding rock caused by unloading in the drivage period is large and asymmetric, the roadway convergence increases with activation of the fault and secondary fracture develops in the mining period. Therefore,we proposed a specific control technique of the roadway along a fault as follows:(1) High-strength yielding bolt not only supports the shallow rock to loadbearing structures, but also releases primary deformation energy by use of a pressure release device in order to achieve high resistance to the pressure retained;(2) Grouting of near-fault ribside after initial stabilization of the rock deformation is used to reinforce the broken rock, and to improve the integral load-bearing capacity of the roadway. The research results were successfully applied to a field trial.Yan Shuai Bai Jianbiao Li Wenfeng Chen Jigang Li Lei 2012International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2012,22,4:11

Allele-aware chromosome-level genome assembly of Artemisia annua reveals the correlation between ADS expansion and artemisinin yield显示文摘Artemisia annua is the major natural source of artemisinin,an anti-malarial medicine commonly used worldwide. Here,we present chromosome-level haploid maps for two A.annua strains with different artemisinin contents to explore the relationships between genomic organization and artemisinin production.High-fidelity sequencing, optical mapping, and chromatin conformation capture sequencing were used to assemble the heterogeneous and repetitive genome and resolve the haplotypes of A.annua.Approximately 5o,ooo genes were annotated for each haplotype genome, and a triplication event that occurred approximately 58.12million years ago was examined for the first time in this species.A total of 3,903,467-5,193,414 variants(SNPs,indels, and structural variants)were identified in the 1.5-Gb genome during pairwise comparison between haplotypes, consistent with the high heterozygosity of this species.Genomic analyses revealed a correlation between artemisinin concents and the copy number of amorpha-4,11-dienes ynthasegenes. This correlation was further confirmed by resequencing of 36A.annua samples with varied artemisinin contents.Circular consensus sequencing of transcripts facilitated the detection of paralog expression.Collectively, our study provides chromosome-level allele-aware genome assemblies for two A.annua strains and new insights into the biosynthesis of artemisinin and its regulation, which will contribute to conquering malaria worldwide.Baosheng Liao Xiaofeng Shen Li Xiang Shuai Guo Shiyu Chen Ying Meng Yu Liang Dandan Ding Junqi Bai Dong Zhang Tomasz Czechowski Yi Li Hui Yao Tingyu Mai Caroline Howard Chao Sun Haitao Liu Jiushi Liu Jin Pei Jihai Gao Jigang Wang Xiaohui Qiu Zhihai Huang Hongyi Li Ling Yuan Jianhe Wei lan Graham Jiang Xu Boli Zhang Shilin Chen 2022Molecular Plant2022,15,8:9

COP9 signalosome: Discovery, conservation, activity, and function显示文摘The COP9 signalosome(CSN)is a conserved protein complex, typically composed of eight subunits(designated as CSN1 to CSN8)in higher eukaryotes such as plants and animals, but of fewer subunits in some lower eukaryotes such as yeasts. The CSN complex is originally identified in plants from a genetic screen for mutants that mimic light-induced photomorphogenic development when grown in the dark. The CSN complex regulates the activity of cullin-RING ligase(CRL)families of E3 ubiquitin ligase complexes, and play critical roles in regulating gene expression, cell proliferation, and cell cycle. This review aims to summarize the discovery, composition, structure, and function of CSN in the regulation of plant development in response to external(light and temperature)and internal cues(phytohormones).Nanxun Qin Dongqing Xu Jigang Li Xing Wang Deng 2020Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2020,62,1:6
Probucol decreases homocysteine-stimulated CRP production in rat aortic smooth muscle cells via regulating HO-1/NADPH oxidase/ROS/p38 pathway显示文摘The elevated homocysteine level is an independent risk factor for atherosclerosis, which is characterized as a chronic inflammatory disease associated with oxidative stress. We have confirmed that homocysteine can stimulate the production of C-reactive protein (CRP) in rat aortic smooth muscle cells (RASMCs). In the present study, we investigated the role of probucol in homocysteine-induced CRP expression in cultured RASMCs and high-methionine-diet-induced hyperhomocysteinemic rats. The results showed that probucol decreased homocysteine-induced CRP mRNA and protein expression in RASMCs in a concentration-dependent manner. In addition, the animal experiment showed that probucol not only inhibited CRP expression in the vessel wall but also reduced the circulating CRP level in hyperhomocysteinemic rats. Further investigations revealed that probucol markedly increased heme oxygenase-1 activity, suppressed nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADPH) oxidase activity, diminished superoxide anion generation, and decreased p38 phosphorylation in RASMCs and hyperhomocysteinemic rat aorta. These data demonstrate that probucol can inhibit homocysteine-induced CRP generation by interfering with the NADPH oxidase/p38 signal pathway in RASMCs, which will provide new evidence for the anti-inflammatory and anti-atherosclerotic effects of probucol.Yuxia Li Qun Zhao Yuan Cao Jigang Si Jing Li Kai Cao Xiaoming Pang 2021Acta Biochimica et Biophysica Sinica2021,53,2:5
Studies on Lung Cancer Angiogenesis-Application of Interventional Therapy (A Report of 56 Cases)显示文摘OBJECTIVE To investigate the significance of angiogenesis of lung cancer, in order to provide a scientific basis for interventional therapy. METHODS Double-phase enhancementscanning spiral CT and DSA were performed in 56 pathologically confi rmed lung cancer cases, in order to evaluate angiogenesis of the tumors. The patients included 36 males and 20 females, with ages ranging from 33 to 76 years (average of 53). Assessments and indexes for SCT and DSA examinations were as follows: a) Peak value (PV) of the cancerous focus was the difference between the maximum CT value after enhancement and the CT value of a plain scan; b) The abnormally distorted and expanded new vessels of the cancerous focus which could be macroscopically discriminated; c) DSA staining of the focus of cancer was sparse, grid-like and dense. Chemotherapy and embolotherapy via the bronchial artery (interventional therapy) were conducted. Radiotherapy was added for some of the solid tumors with a diameter exceeding 4 cm. RESULTS a) There were 25 cases with a central-type lesion, among which 4 were small cell lung cancers (SCLC) and 21 non-small cell lung cancers (NSCLC). The cases with a peripheral location accounted for 31 of the total, with a maximum diameter of 1.5 to 13.5 cm and a median of 4.2 cm, including 5 small cell lung cancers and 26 NSCLC cases. b) The reinforced PVs of the cancerous foci were as follows: The PV ranged from 45 to 70 Hu in 34 cases, 25 to 45 Hu in 19, and 10 to 25 Hu in 3. Sparse DSA staining occurred in 3 cases, there was uneven grid-like staining in 22 and dense staining in 31; c) The interventional therapy via the bronchial artery was con-ducted twice in 5 cases with the SCLC, and three times in 4 SCLC cases. For 3 of the latter cases, a dose of 5,000 to 7,000 cGy radiation therapy was added during the interventional treatment. Complete remissions (CR) were seen in 88.9% of the cases (8/9) and partial remission (PR) in 11.1% (1/9). Interventional therapy was conducted twice in 8 cases with NSCLC and three times in 30 with NSCLC and four times in 9 cases. Among the total cases, 13 received radiotherapy during interventional therapy, with a radiation dose of 5,000-7,000 cGy; The CR rate was 78.7% (37/47), PR was 14.9% (7/47) and the rate of non-remission was 6.4% (3/47). CONCLUSION Using imaging technology, analysis of angiogenesis of lung cancers was employed to accurately detect and quantify angiogenesis. This analysis was combined for interventional therapy, using embolizing agents and large doses of the anti-tumor drugs and angiogenesis inhibitors. The agents were selectively delivered into the tumor vessels to eliminate the primary tumor, in order to depress distant metastases and thus enhance the curative effect of the therapy.Qiang Zhang Jun Guo Hailong Qian Baoqi Shi Jigang Zhang Chunjing Li Ailing Yang Zhuang Tian Baotou No. 7 Hospital Department of Radiol-ogy, Baotou Cancer Hospital, Baotou 014030, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. 2007Chinese Journal of Clinical Oncology2007,4,1:5
Downsampling sparse representation and discriminant information aided occluded face recognition显示文摘In this paper,a strategy is proposed to deal with a challenging research topic, occluded face recognition. Our approach relies on sparse representation on downsampled input image to first locate unoccluded face parts, and then exploits the linear discriminant ability of those pixels to identify the input subject. The advantages and novelties of our method include,1)since the sparse representation based occlusion detection is conducted on dowsampled image, our algorithm is much faster than classic SRC;2)the discriminant information learned from training samples is combined with sparse representation to recognize occluded face for the first time. The verification experiments are conducted on both simulated block occlusion images and genuine occluded images.LI YueLong MENG Li FENG JuFu WU JiGang 2014Science China(Information Sciences)2014,57,3:5
Integration of light and temperature signaling pathways in plants显示文摘As two of the most important environmental factors, light and temperature regulate almost all aspects of plant growth and development.Under natural conditions, light is accompanied by warm temperatures and darkness by cooler temperatures, suggesting that light and temperature are tightly associated signals for plants.Indeed, accumulating evidence shows that plants have evolved a wide range of mechanisms to simultaneously perceive and respond to dynamic changes in light and temperature.Notably, the photoreceptor phytochrome B(phy B)was recently shown to function as a thermosensor, thus reinforcing the notion that light and temperature signaling pathways are tightly associated in plants. In this review,we summarize and discuss the current understanding of the molecular mechanisms integrating light and temperature signaling pathways in plants, with the emphasis on recent progress in temperature sensing, light control of plant freezing tolerance, and thermomorphogenesis. We also discuss the questions that are crucial for a further understanding of the interactions between light and temperature signaling pathways in plants.Lijuan Qi Yiting Shi William Terzaghi Shuhua Yang Jigang Li 2022Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2022,64,2:4

Arabidopsis small ubiquitin-related modifier protease ASP1 positively regulates abscisic acid signaling during early seedling development~~显示文摘The small ubiquitin-related modifier(SUMO)modification plays an important role in the regulation of abscisic acid(ABA)signaling, but the function of the SUMO protease,in ABA signaling, remains largely unknown. Here,we show that the SUMO protease,ASP1 positively regulates ABA signaling.Mutations in ASP1 resulted in an ABA-insensitive phenotype, during early seedling development.Wild-type ASP1 successfully rescued, whereas an ASP1 mutant(C577S),defective in SUMO protease activity, failed to rescue, the ABA-insensitive phenotype of asp1-1.Expression of ABI5 and MYB30 target genes was attenuated in asp1-1 and our genetic analyses revealed that ASP1 may function upstream of ABI5 and MYB30.Interestingly,ASP1 accumulated upon ABA treatment, and ABA-induced accumulation of ABI5(a positive regulator of ABA signaling)was abolished, whereas ABA-induced accumulation of MYB30(a negative regulator of ABA signaling)was increased in asp1-1.These findings support the hypothesis that increased levels of ASP1,upon ABA treatment, tilt the balance between ABI5 and MYB30towards ABI5-mediated ABA signaling.Qiongli wang Gao-Ping Qu Xiangxiong Kong Yan Yan Jigang Li Jing Bo Jin 2018Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2018,60,10:4
GPU-CA model for large-scale land-use change simulation显示文摘Land-use change simulation for large-scale regions(i.e.provincial regions or countries) is very useful for many global studies.Such simulation, however,is affected by computational capability of general computers. This paper proposes a method to implement cellular automata(CA) for land use change simulation based on graphics processing units(GPUs).This method can be applied to large-scale land-use change simulations by combining the latest GPU high-performance computing technology and CA.We carried out the experiments by simulating land-use change processes at a provincial scale. This involves a lot of sophisticated techniques, such as model mapping, and computational procedure of GPU-CA model. This proposed model has been validated by land-use change simulation in Guangdong Province,China. The comparison indicates that the GPU-CA model is faster than traditional CA by 30 times.Such improvement is crucial for land-use change simulations in provincial regions and countries. The outputs of the simulation can be further used to provide information to other global change models.LI Dan LI Xia LIU XiaoPing CHEN YiMin LI ShaoYing LIU Kai QIAO JiGang ZHENG YiZhong ZHANG YiHan LAO ChunHua 2012Chinese Science Bulletin2012,57,19:4
Complex conforming Delaunay triangulation显示文摘A novel algorithm of conforming Delaunay triangulation for curved geometry is presented in the paper.A progress has been made for the problem puzzled Delaunay refinement where curved constraints cannot be accepted as input directly. The algorithm is based on a new sufficient condition for the existence of constraints in triangulation. It requires computing only the intersection between constraints and Voronoi edges or faces instead of the circum-sphere of curved constraint. For the termination of the algorithm when small input angles exist in constraints, a weighted method is applied to ensure that the algorithm can terminate under any input. Some two-dimensional and three-dimensional results are also presented. It is shown that the algorithm has the capability of dealing with both linear and nonlinear constraints in a consistent way, without the need of maintaining triangular meshes on face constraints.MENG XianHai LI JiGang YANG Qin CAI Qiang CHEN QiMing 2010Science China(Information Sciences)2010,53,6:3
PHYTOCHROME-INTERACTING FACTORS Interact with the ABA Receptors PYL8 and PYL9 to Orchestrate ABA Signaling in Darkness显示文摘PHYTOCHROME-INTERACTING FACTORS(PIFs)are a group of basic helix-loop-helix transcription factors that can physically interact with photoreceptors, including phytochromes and cryptochromes. It was previously demonstrated that PIFs accumulated in darkness and repressed seedling photomorphogenesis, and that PIFs linked different photosensory and hormonal pathways to control plant growth and development. In this study,we show that PIFs positively regulate the ABA signaling pathway during the seedling stage specifically in darkness. We found that PIFs positively regulate ABI5 transcript and protein levels in darkness in response to exogenous ABA treatment by binding directly to the G-box motifs in the ABI5 promoter.Consistently,PIFs and the G-box motifs in the ABI5 promoter determine ABI5 expression in darkness, and overexpression of ABI5 could rescue the ABA-insensitive phenotypes of pifq mutants in the dark. Moreover,we discovered that PIFs can physically interact with the ABA receptors PYL8 and PYL9,and that this interaction is not regulated by ABA.Further analyses showed that PYL8 and PYL9 promote PIF4 protein accumulation in the dark and enhance PIF4 binding to the ABI5 promoter, but negatively regulate PIF4-mediated ABI5 activation.Taken together, our data demonstrate that PIFs interact with ABA receptors to orchestrate ABA signaling in darkness by controlling ABI5 expression, providing new insights into the pivotal roles of PIFs as signal integrators in regulating plant growth and development.Lijuan Qi Shan Liu Cong Li Jingying Fu Yanjun Jing Jinkui Cheng Hong Li Dun Zhang Xiaoji Wang Xiaojing Dong Run Han Bosheng Li Yu Zhang Zhen Li William Terzaghi Chun-Peng Song Rongcheng Lin Zhizhong Gong Jigang Li 2020Molecular Plant2020,13,3:3
beta-glycyrrhetinic acid induces ROS-mediated apoptosis to ameliorate hepatic fibrosis by targeting PRDX1/2 in activated HSCs显示文摘Hepatic stellate cells(HSCs)are essential drivers of fibrogenesis.Inducing activated-HSC apoptosis is a promising strategy for treating hepatic fibrosis.18beta-glycyrrhetinic acid(18b-GA)is a natural compound that exists widely in herbal medicines, such as Glycyrrhiza uralensis Fisch, which is used for treating multiple liver diseases, especially in Asia.In the present study,we demonstrated that 18b-GA decreased hepatic fibrosis by inducing the apoptosis in activated HSCs.18b-GA inhibited the expression of a-smooth muscle actin and collagen type Ⅰ alpha-1.Using a chemoproteomic approach derived from activity-based protein profiling, together with cellular thermal shift assay and surface plasmon resonance,we found that 18b-GA covalently targeted peroxiredoxin 1(PRDX1)and peroxiredoxin 2(PRDX2)proteins via binding to active cysteine residues and thereby inhibited their enzymatic activities.18b-GA induced the elevation of reactive oxygen species(ROS),resulting in the apoptosis of activated HSCs.PRDX1 knockdown also led to ROS-mediated apoptosis in activated HSCs.Collectively, our findings revealed the target proteins and molecular mechanisms of 18b-GA in ameliorating hepatic fibrosis, highlighting the future development of 18b-GA as a novel therapeutic drug for hepatic fibrosis.Qian Zhang Piao Luo Liuhai Zheng Jiayun Chen Junzhe Zhang Huan Tang Dandan Liu Xueling He Qiaoli Shi Liwei Gu Jiahao Li Qiuyan Guo Chuanbin Yang Yin Kwan Wong Fei Xia Jigang Wang 2022Journal of Pharmaceutical Analysis2022,12,4:3
