1The Cenozoic activities of Yangjiang-Yitongdong Fault: insights from analysis of the tectonic characteristics and evolution processes in western Zhujiang(Pearl) River Mouth Basin显示文摘The Yangjiang-Yitongdong Fault (YJF) is an important NW-trending regional fault, which divides the Zhujiang (Pearl) River Mouth Basin (ZRMB) into western and eastern segments. In Cenozoic, the northern continental margin of the South China Sea (SCS) underwent continental rifting, breakup, seafloor spreading and thermal subsidence processes, and the Cenozoic activities of YJF is one part of this series of complex processes. Two long NW-trending multichannel seismic profiles located on both sides of the YJF extending from the continental shelf to Continent-Ocean Boundary (COB) were used to study the tectonic and sedimentary characteristics of western ZRMB. Using the 2D-Move software and back-stripping method, we constructed the balance cross-section model and calculated the fault activity rate. Through the comprehensive consideration of tectonic position, tectonic evolution history, featured structure, and stress analysis, we deduced the activity history of the YJF in Cenozoic. The results showed that the YJF can be divided into two segments by the central uplift belt. From 65 Ma to 32 Ma, the YJF was in sinistral motion as a whole, inherited the preexisting sinistral motion of Mesozoic YJF, in which, the southern part of YJF was mainly in extension activity, controlling the formation and evolution of Yunkai Low Uplift, coupled with slight sinistral motion. From 32 Ma to 23.8 Ma, the sinistral motion in northern part of YJF continued, while the sinistral motion in southern part began to stop or shifted to a slightly dextral motion. After 23.8 Ma, the dextral motion in southern part of YJF continued, while the sinistral motion in northern part of YJF gradually stopped, or shifted to the slightly dextral motion. The shift of the YJF strike-slip direction may be related to the magmatic underplating in continent-ocean transition, southeastern ZRMB. 2Characteristics of the modern pollen assemblages from different vegetation zones in Northeast China:Implications for pollen-based climate reconstruction显示文摘Northeast China is an essential area for studying the strength of East Asian Summer Monsoon(EASM), due to its northernmost location in EASM domain. However, the lack of sufficient modern pollen data in this region hinders an effective interpretation of fossil pollen records and quantitative vegetation/climate reconstructions. Here, 44 surface pollen samples from forest, steppe, and meadow were used to explore pollen-vegetation-climate relationships. Cluster analysis, species indicator analysis, and principal components analysis, were used to identify the discontinuous and continuous trends in pollen dataset. In addition, correlation analysis and boosted regression trees were used to investigate primary explanatory variables, while coinertia analysis and redundancy analysis to examine pollen-vegetation and pollen-climate correlations respectively. Our results show that:(1) vegetation can be well represented by surface pollen assemblages, i.e. forest is characterized by a high proportion of tree pollen(>70%) dominated by Betula(>40%) along with Alnus, Larix, and Pinus, whereas Steppe by herb pollen(>80%),dominated by Artemisia, Chenopodiaceae;(2) significant correlations exist between pollen assemblages and mean annual temperature and then mean annual precipitation;(3) pollen ratios of Artemisia/Chenopodiaceae and arboreal/non-arboreal can respectively be used as good indicators of humidity and temperature in Northeast China.Qiaoyu CUI Yan ZHAO Feng QIN Chen LIANG Quan LI Rongwei GENG 2019Science China Earth Sciences2019,62,10:5
3The effect of carbon nanotubes on osteogenic functions of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells in vitro and bone formation in vivo compared with that of nano-hydroxyapatite and the possible mechanism显示文摘It has been well recognized that the development and use of artificial materials with high osteogenic ability is one of the most promising means to replace bone grafting that has exhibited various negative effects.The biomimetic features and unique physiochemical properties of nanomaterials play important roles in stimulating cellular functions and guiding tissue regeneration.But efficacy degree of some nanomaterials to promote specific tissue formation is still not clear.We hereby comparatively studied the osteogenic ability of our treated multiwalled carbon nanotubes(MCNTs)and the main inorganic mineral component of natural bone,nano-hydroxyapatite(nHA)in the same system,and tried to tell the related mechanism.In vitro culture of human adiposederived mesenchymal stem cells(HASCs)on the MCNTs and nHA demonstrated that although there was no significant difference in the cell adhesion amount between on the MCNTs and nHA,the cell attachment strength and proliferation on the MCNTs were better.Most importantly,the MCNTs could induce osteogenic differentiation of the HASCs better than the nHA,the possible mechanism of which was found to be that the MCNTs could activate Notch involved signaling pathways by concentrating more proteins,including specific bone-inducing ones.Moreover,the MCNTs could induce ectopic bone formation in vivo while the nHA could not,which might be because MCNTs could stimulate inducible cells in tissues to form inductive bone better than nHA by concentrating more proteins including specific bone-inducing ones secreted from M2 macrophages.Therefore,MCNTs might be more effective materials for accelerating bone formation even than nHA.Zhipo Du Xinxing Feng Guangxiu Cao Zhending She Rongwei Tan Katerina E.Aifantis Ruihong Zhang Xiaoming Li 2021Bioactive Materials2021,6,2:3
4Mapping Near-surface Air Temperature, Pressure, Relative Humidity and Wind Speed over China's Mainland with High Spatiotemporal Resolution显示文摘As part of a joint effort to construct an atmospheric forcing dataset for China's Mainland with high spatiotemporal resolution, a new approach is proposed to construct gridded near-surface temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and surface pressure with a resolution of 1 km×1 km. The approach comprises two steps:(1) fit a partial thin-plate smoothing spline with orography and reanalysis data as explanatory variables to ground-based observations for estimating a trend surface;(2)apply a simple kriging procedure to the residual for trend surface correction.The proposed approach is applied to observations collected at approximately 700 stations over China's Mainland. The generated forcing fields are compared with the corresponding components of the National Centers for Environmental Prediction(NCEP) Climate Forecast System Reanalysis dataset and the Princeton meteorological forcing dataset. 6Heavy Metal Remediation in Sludge Compost: Recent Progress显示文摘The safe and efficient disposal and utilization of sludge are major issues to be solved in solid waste treatment and environmental protection due to the complex characteristics of sludge and the low rate of innocuous treatments.Composting is a process of decomposing organic matter and transformed low-molecular organic acids into high-molecular humus substances under the action of microorganisms.Although land-use after composting has become an important direction for sludge treatment,heavy metal pollution is still the bottleneck problem restrict-ing land use of sludge compost.Adding zeolite,hydroxyapatite,and other conditioning agents to the composting process affects the concentration or form of some heavy metals and effectively reduces the environmental risk.Lime and phosphorus modifiers change heavy metal speciation in samples,playing a role in decreasing biological availability and mobility.In this study,the effects of sludge composting treatment and conditioning agents on the concentrations and forms of heavy metals are reviewed.This review will provide a theoretical basis to treat heavy metals in sludge composting and lay the foundation for the land utilization and waste recycling of sludge.Rongwei Xiong Xiufang Gao Xinyue Tu Yilin Mao Li Jiang Lu Zheng Yitong Du 2022Journal of Renewable Materials2022,10,2:2
73D Printing of Well Dispersed Electrospun PLGA Fiber Toughened Calcium Phosphate Scaffolds for Osteoanagenesis显示文摘Although the toughening of Calcium phosphate(CaP)scaffold by the addition of fiber has been well recognized,integrated mechanical,structural and functional considerations have been neglected in the design and fabrication of CaP scaffold implant.The emerging 3D printing provides a promising technique to construct CaP scaffold with precise size and elaborate microstructure.However,the most challenge is to extrude smoothly the CaP paste containing fibers for frequently-used extrusion-based 3D printing.In this study,frozen section and chemical dispersant(Pluronic F127,F127)were employed jointly to prepare non-aggregated polylactic-co-glycolic acid(PLGA)fibers.The injectability of CaP pastes with well dispersed PLGA fibers was more than 90%when the content of PLGA fibers was no more than 3 wt%.Meanwhile rheological property of CAP pastes with well dispersed fibers showed shear thinning,which were both beneficial to extrude CaP paste with well dispersed fibers for 3D printing.Moreover,these CaP scaffolds showed ductile fracture behavior due to the pullout and bridging effect of PLGA fibers.The cell proliferation and alkaline phosphatase(ALP)activity indicated that 3D printed CAP scaffold containing PLGA fibers possesses excellent biocompatibility and facilitate osteogenic differentiation ability.Thus,it was feasible to print CaP pastes with well dispersed PLGA fibers to construct toughening CaP scaffolds with the higher shape fidelity and complex structures,which had significant clinical potentials in osteoanagenesis due to their higher toughness and excellent biocompatibility.Guoru Zhao Rongwei Cui You Chen Sijie Zhou Chen Wang Zhangmei Hu Xiaoke Zheng Maohong Li Shuxin Qu 2020Journal of Bionic Engineering2020,17,4:2
8In vivo evaluation of additively manufacturedmulti-layered scaffold for the repair of large osteochondral defects显示文摘The repair of osteochondral defects is one of the major clinical challenges in orthopaedics.Well-established osteochondral tissue engineering methods have shown promising results for the early treatment of small defects.However,less success has been achieved for the regeneration of large defects,which is mainly due to the mechanical environment of the joint and the heterogeneous nature of the tissue.In this study,we developed a multi-layered osteochondral scaffold to match the heterogeneous nature of osteochondral tissue by harnessing additive manufacturing technologies and combining the established art laser sintering and material extrusion techniques.The developed scaffold is based on a titanium and polylactic acid matrix-reinforced collagen“sandwich”composite system.The microstructure and mechanical properties of the scaffold were examined,and its safety and efficacy in the repair of large osteochondral defects were tested in an ovine condyle model.The 12-week in vivo evaluation period revealed extensive and significantly higher bone in-growth in the multi-layered scaffold compared with the collagen–HAp scaffold,and the achieved stable mechanical fixation provided strong support to the healing of the overlying cartilage,as demonstrated by hyaline-like cartilage formation.The histological examination showed that the regenerated cartilage in the multi-layer scaffold group was superior to that formed in the control group.Chondrogenic genes such as aggrecan and collagen-II were upregulated in the scaffold and were higher than those in the control group.The findings showed the safety and efficacy of the cell-free“translation-ready”osteochondral scaffold,which has the potential to be used in a one-step surgical procedure for the treatment of large osteochondral defects.Maryam Tamaddon Gordon Blunn Rongwei Tan Pan Yang Xiaodan Sun Shen-Mao Chen Jiajun Luo Ziyu Liu Ling Wang Dichen Li Ricardo Donate Mario Monzón Chaozong Liu 2022Bio-Design and Manufacturing2022,5,3:2

10Modeling the Prevalence of Asymptomatic COVID-19 Infections in the Chinese Mainland显示文摘Recently,considerable efforts have been focused on intensifying the screening process for asymptomatic COVID-19 cases in the ChineseMainland,especially for up to 10 million citizens living in Wuhan City by nucleic acid testing.However,a high percentage of domestic asymptomatic cases did not develop into symptomatic ones,which is abnormal and has drawn considerable public attention.Here,we aimed to investigate the prevalence of COVID-19 infections in the Chinese Mainland from a statistical perspective,as it is of referential significance for other regions.By conservatively assuming a development time lag from pre-symptomatic(i.e.,referring to the infected cases that were screened before the COVID-19 symptom onset)to symptomatic as an incubation time of 5.2 days,our results indicated that 92.5%of those tested in Wuhan City,China,and 95.1%of those tested in the Chinese Mainland should have COVID-19 syndrome onset,which was extremely higher than their corresponding practical percentages of 0.8%and 3.3%,respectively.We propose that a certain false positive rate may exist if large-scale nucleic acid screening tests for asymptomatic cases are conducted in common communities with a low incidence rate.Despite adopting relatively high-sensitivity,high-specificity detection kits,we estimated a very low prevalence of COVID-19 infections,ranging from 106 to 104 in both Wuhan City and the Chinese Mainland.Thus,the prevalence rate of asymptomatic infections in China had been at a very low level.Furthermore,given the lower prevalence of the infection,close examination of the data for false positive results is necessary to minimize social and economic impacts.Xiaoqian Jia Junxi Chen Liangjing Li Na Jia Bahabaike Jiangtulu Tao Xue Le Zhang Zhiwen Li Rongwei Ye Bin Wang 2020The Innovation2020,1,2:1

14Enhanced chemical trapping and catalytic conversion of polysulfides by diatomite/MXene hybrid interlayer for stable Li-S batteries显示文摘Lithium-Sulfur (Li-S) batteries with high theoretical energy density are promising energy storage systems in the next decades, while the lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) shuttling caused by the sluggish sulfur redox reaction severely lowers the practical performance. The use of interlayer between the cathode and separator has been widely investigated to physically or chemically block the LiPSs, while the introduction of catalytic materials is a more effective strategy to accelerate the conversion of LiPSs. MXene with rich surface chemistry has shown its potential for facilitating the catalytic conversion, however, the aggregation of MXene sheets usually leads to the loss of the catalytic active sites. Herein, we report a diatomite/MXene (DE/MX) hybrid material as the bifunctional interlayer for improving the adsorption/conversion of LiPSs in Li-S batteries. The diatomite with porous structure and rich silica-hydroxyl functional groups could trap LiPSs effectively, while prevent the aggregation of MXene. The DE/MX based interlayer showed bifunctions of enhancing the chemical adsorption and promoting the conversion of LiPSs. The Li-S batteries with the DE/MX interlayer delivered an improved cycling stability with a low capacity decay of 0.059% per cycle over 1000 cycles at 1.0 C. Moreover, stable 200 cycles can be realized with a high sulfur loading electrode up to 6.0 mg cm^(−2). 151064 nm InGaAsP multi-junction laser power converters显示文摘Laser photovoltaic devices converting 1064 nm light energy into electric energy present a promising prospect in wireless energy transmission due to the commercial availability of high power 1064 nm lasers with very small divergence. Besides their high conversion efficiency, a high output voltage is also expected in a laser energy transmission system. Meanwhile,1064 nm InGaAsP multi-junction laser power converters have been developed using p^+-InGaAs/n^+-InGaAs tunnel junctions to connect sub-cells in series to obtain a high output voltage. The triple-junction laser power converter structures are grown on p-type InP substrates by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition(MOCVD), and InGaAsP laser power converters are fabricated by conventional photovoltaic device processing. The room-temperature I–V measurements show that the 1 × 1 cm^2 triplejunction InGaAsP laser power converters demonstrate a conversion efficiency of 32.6% at a power density of 1.1 W/cm^2, with an open-circuit voltage of 2.16 V and a fill factor of 0.74.
