| 4 | Tolerance of VA Mycorrhizal Fungi to Soil Acidity显示文摘A 45-day greenhouse experiment was carried out to determine effect of vesicular-arbuscular (VA) mycorrhizal fungi on colonization rate, plant height, plant growth, hyphae length, total Al in the plants, exchangeable Al in the soil and soil pH by comparison at soil pH 3.5, 4.5 and 6.0. Plant mung bean (Phaseolus radiatus L.) and crotalaria (Crotalaria mucronata Desv.) were grown with and without VA mycorrhizal fungi in pots with red soil. Ten VA mycorrhizal fungi strains were tested, including Glomus epigaeum (No. 90001), Glomus caledonium (No. 90036), Glomus mosseae (No. 90107), Acaulospora spp. (No. 34), Scutellospora heterogama (No. 36), Scutellospora calospora (No. 37), Glomus manihotis (No. 38), Gigaspora spp. (No. 47), Glomus manihotis (No. 49), and Acaulospora spp. (No. 53). Being the most tolerant to acidity, strain 34 and strain 38 showed quicker and higher-rated colonization without lagging, three to four times more in number of nodules, two to four times more in plant dry weight, 30% to 60% more in hyphae length, lower soil exchangeable Al, and higher soil pH than without VA mycorrhizal fungi (CK). Other strains also could improve plant growth and enhance plant tolerance to acidity, but their effects were not marked. This indicated that VA mycorrhizal fungi differed in the tolerance to soil acidity and so did their inoculation effects. | 5 | Predictive factors associated with gefitinib response in patients with advanced non-small-cell lung cancer(NSCLC)显示文摘Purpose: A number of different clinical characteristics have been reported to singly correlate with therapeutic activity of epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) tyrosine kinase inhibitors(TKIs) in advanced non-small-cell lung cancer(NSCLC). This study aimed to identify predictive factors associated with prognostic benefits of gefitinib.Patients and methods: EGFR gene typing in 33 advanced NSCLC patients received gefitinib(250 mg/day) were analyzed with mutant-enriched PCR assay. Gefitinib response was evaluated with potential predictive factors retrospectively.Results: The overall objective response rate(ORR) and median progression-free survival(PFS) in the 33 patients treated by gefitinib were 45.5% and 3.0(2.0-4.0) months. The ORR and median PFS in EGFR gene mutation patients were significantly higher/longer than those in EGFR gene wild-type patients(P<0.01). Similarly, the ORR and median PFS in non-smoker patients were significantly higher/longer than those in smoker patients(P<0.05, P<0.01, respectively). However, no difference for ORR and median PFS occurred between male and female patients. Logistic multivariate analysis showed that only EGFR mutated gene was significantly associated with the ORR(P<0.01). Both EGFR mutated gene and non-smoker were the major factors that contributed to PFS(P<0.05). | 6 | Electronic-property dependent interactions between tetracycline and graphene nanomaterials in aqueous solution显示文摘Understanding the interactions between graphene nanomaterials(GNMs) and antibiotics in aqueous solution is critical to both the engineering applications of GNMs and the assessment of their potential impact on the fate and transport of antibiotics in the aquatic environment. In this study, adsorption of one common antibiotic, tetracycline, by graphene oxide(GO) and reduced graphene oxide(RGO) was examined with multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs) and graphite as comparison. The results showed that the tetracycline adsorption capacity by the four selected carbonaceous materials on the unit mass basis followed an order of GO > RGO > MWCNTs > graphite. Upon normalization by surface area,graphite, RGO and MWCNTs had almost the same high tetracycline adsorption affinity while GO exhibited the lowest. We proposed π-electron-property dependent interaction mechanisms to explain the observed different adsorption behaviors. Density functional theory(DFT) calculations suggested that the oxygen-containing functional groups on GO surface reduced its π-electron-donating ability, and thus decreased the π-based interactions between tetracycline and GO surface. Comparison of adsorption efficiency at different p H indicated that electrostatic interaction also played an important role in tetracycline-GO interactions. | 8 | Review on corrosion and corrosion scale formation upon unlined cast iron pipes in drinking water distribution systems显示文摘The qualified finished water from water treatment plants(WTPs) may become discolored and deteriorated during transportation in drinking water distribution systems(DWDSs), which affected tap water quality seriously. This water stability problem often occurs due to pipe corrosion and the destabilization of corrosion scales. This paper provides a comprehensive review of pipe corrosion in DWDSs, including corrosion process, corrosion scale formation, influencing factors and monitoring technologies utilized in DWDSs. In terms of corrosion process, corrosion occurrence, development mechanisms, currently applied assays, and indices used to determine the corrosion possibility are summarized, as well as the chemical and bacterial influences. In terms of scale formation, explanations for the nature of corrosion and scale formation mechanisms are discussed and its typical multilayered structure is illustrated. Furthermore, the influences of water quality and microbial activity on scale transformation are comprehensively discussed. Corrosion-related bacteria at the genus level and their associated corrosion mechanism are also summarized. | 9 | Anatomical characteristics of fusoid cells and vascular bundles in Fargesia yunnanensis leaves显示文摘As of today, the functions of fusoid cell, and the transport and loading pathways of photoassimilate in bamboo leaves are still not clear. In this paper, the leaves of Fargesia yunnanensis from a greenhouse and the wild were respectively used as samples to analyze the anatomical characteristics of fusoid cells and vascular bundles.The results showed that the bamboo leaves from greenhouse got shorter and thinner with fewer layers of palisade parenchyma cells than those from the wild. The volumes of fusoid cells were also increased. Fusoid cells originated from a huge parenchyma cell as testified by the observed nuclei. Several fusoid cells usually formed one cell complex close to the midrib. Crystals were detected in fusoid cells but no pits or plasmodesmata on their walls, suggesting that fusoid cells had the function of regulating water. The presence of fusoid cells determined the major difference between a leaf blade and sheath. There were prominent chloroplasts with simple stroma lamellae in the parenchymatous bundle sheath cells and starch grains were also observed in these chloroplast. | 10 | Evolution of Neolithic site distribution(9.0–4.0 ka BP) in Anhui,East China显示文摘Based on archaeological surveys of Neolithic cultural development and GIS spatial analysis,this study reproduced the main characteristics of temporal distribution and settlement selection of the sites from the Neolithic Age in Anhui and identified a relationship between environmental evolution and human activity.The results show that altitude,slope direction,and slope gradient were consistent among the settlements at different stages of the Neolithic Age in Anhui,and the sites were mostly distributed in hilly and plain areas on southeast-or south-facing slopes of low gradients close to rivers.We determined that early Neolithic Age(9.0–7.0 ka BP) sites were scattered in small numbers and likely had little cultural exchange with communities of other provinces.The environmental characteristics of various regions in Anhui indicated that the climate was warm and humid with extensive water distribution.The sites of the mid Neolithic Age(7.0–5.0 ka BP) increased rapidly with wide distribution.They were mainly distributed in the plain area north of the Huaihe River and the southwestern areas of Anhui.In the mid Neolithic Age,the warm and humid climate gradually dried,and our ancestors slowly developed cultural exchanges.The largest number of sites existed during the late Neolithic Age(5.0–4.0 ka BP),and were distributed throughout the province.During this period,the overall climate was relatively dry,but humans could still obtain water and other resources through migration.The relatively benign climate facilitated cultural interaction and exchange,which increased during this time,and the Wanjiang culture matured.We also determined that as early civilization evolved,cultures in different regions responded differently to environmental changes.In humid subtropical regions,especially in low-lying plains and areas beside lakes,rivers,and coastal areas,the relatively dry climate in the late period of the middle Holocene,prefaced by a period of high humidity,was conducive to the development of human culture.The evidence from the Neolithic settlements in Anhui therefore reflects this subtropical man-land relationship between cultural development and environmental conditions. | WU Li SUN Xiaoling SUN Wei ZHU Cheng ZHU Tongxin LU Shuguang ZHOU Hui GUO Qingchun GUAN Houchun XIE Wei KE Rui LIN Guiping | 2020 | Journal of Geographical Sciences2020,30,9: | 2 |

[Method]The dead cases of calf diarrhea were collected from a large-scale beef cattle farm,and the isolated pathogen was conducted molecular identification,serological identification,drug sensitivity test,and mice pathogenicity test,respectively. Targeted therapy was undertaken thereafter to herds. [Result] One strain of bovine pathogenic E. coli,serotype O101 with strong multidrug resistance and high pathogenicity to mice,was successfully isolated. It was used to develop sensitive drug for timely treating follow-up diarrhea calves,and successfully controlled calf diarrhea in the farm. | 16 | The neuroprotective effect of walnut-derived peptides against glutamate-induced damage in PC12 cells: mechanism and bioavailability显示文摘In our previous study, defatted walnut meal hydrolysate(DWMH) could attenuate D-galactose-induced acute memory deficits in vivo, and six potent active peptides including WSREEQ, WSREEQE, WSREEQEREE, ADIYTE, ADIYTEEAG and ADIYTEEAGR were identified. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible mechanism underlying their neuroprotective effects on glutamate-induced apoptosis in PC12 cells and their digestive stability. Results showed that all these peptides could attenuate the reduction of cell viability caused by glutamate in PC12 cells, especially WSREEQEREE and ADIYTEEAGR. The addition of Arg residue in WSREEQEREE and ADIYTEEAGR might be the potential reason for their stronger protective effects. Additionally, these two peptides possibly protected PC12 cells against glutamate-induced apoptosis via activating intracellular antioxidant defence(superoxide dismutase(SOD) and glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px)) through Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1(Keap1) inhibition, inhibiting ROS production, Ca;influx and mitochondrial membrane potential(MMP) collapse as well as regulating the expression of apoptosis-related proteins(Bax and Bcl-2). This might be due to the presence of Trp, Tyr and Arg in these two peptides. | 18 | Shoot proliferation and callus regeneration from nodular buds of Drepanostachyum luodianense显示文摘This research reports on an efficient shoot proliferation and callus regeneration system for bamboo.Young, semi-lignified branches with one lateral bud from Drepanostachyum luodianense(Yi et R. S. Wang) Keng f.were used as explants. Disinfection with 0.1% HgCl2 for 8 min was the optimum treatment and the best medium for bud initiation was Murashige and Skoog(MS) medium containing 3.0 mg L-16-benzyladenine(BA). Multiple shoots were induced from nodal shoot segments on MS medium containing 5.0 mg L-1 BA, 0.5 mg L-1 kinetin(Kin), and 1.0 mg L-1 naphthaleneacetic acid(NAA). The highest frequency of callus formation(65.6%) was on MS medium containing 4.0 mg L-12,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid(2, 4-D), 0.5 mg L-1 NAA, and 0.1 mg L-1 thidiazuron(TDZ). The optimum medium for callus proliferation was MS medium with 4 mg L-12,4-D, 0.5 mg L-1 TDZ and 0.5 mg L-1 NAA, and the optimum hormone combination was 4 mg L-1 BA ? 0.5 mg L-1 NAA for callus redifferentiation(up to 85.6%). A 100% rooting was achieved on MS medium supplemented with 2.0 mg L-1 NAA and 0.5 mg L-13-indole butyric acid(IBA). Rooted plantlets were acclimatized in a greenhouse in humus soil ? perlite(1:1) substrate.
