| 1 | Prevalence of minimal hepatic encephalopathy and quality of life evaluations in hospitalized cirrhotic patients in China显示文摘AIM:To investigate the prevalence of minimal hepatic encephalopathy(MHE)and to assess corresponding health-related quality of life(HRQoL)in hospitalized cirrhotic patients in China.METHODS:This multi-center cross-sectional study included 16 teaching hospitals,which were members of 'Hepatobiliary Cooperation Group,Society of Gastroenterology,Chinese Medical Association',from different areas of China carried out between June and October in 2011.All the eligible hospitalized cirrhotic patients(n = 538)were required to complete triplicate number connection tests combined with one digit symbol test for diagnosing MHE.Patients' clinical examination data were complemented by a modified questionnaire assessing HRQoL.Written informed consent was obtained from each patient.RESULTS:Male was predominant(68.6%)in 519 patients who met the criteria of the study,with a mean age of 49.17 ± 11.02 years.The most common cause of liver cirrhosis was chronic hepatitis B(55.9%).The prevalence of MHE was 39.9% and varied by ChildPugh-Classification score(CPC-A:24.8%,CPC-B:39.4% and CPC-C:56.1%,P < 0.01).MHE(P < 0.01)and higher CPC scores(P < 0.01)were associated with a high HRQoL scores(reflecting poorer quality of life).The prevalence of MHE was proportionate to CPC(P = 0.01)and high quality of life scores(P = 0.01).CONCLUSION:Hospitalized cirrhotic patients have a high prevalence of MHE that is proportionate to the degree of liver function and HRQoL impairment. | Ji-Yao Wang Ning-Ping Zhang Bao-Rong Chi Yu-Qing Mi Li-Na Meng Ying-Di Liu Jiang-Bin Wang Hai-Xing Jiang Jin-Hui Yang Yun Xu Xiao Li Jian-Ming Xu Guo Zhang Xin-Min Zhou Yu-Zheng Zhuge De-An Tian Jin Ye Yu-Lan Liu | 2013 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2013,19,30: | 64 |
| 2 | Human Gut Microbiota and Gastrointestinal Cancer显示文摘Human gut microbiota play an essential role in both healthy and diseased states of humans.In the past decade,the interactions between microorganisms and tumors have attracted much attention in the efforts to understand various features of the complex microbial communities,as well as the possible mechanisms through which the microbiota are involved in cancer prevention,carcinogenesis,and anti-cancer therapy.A large number of studies have indicated that microbial dysbiosis contributes to cancer susceptibility via multiple pathways.Further studies have suggested that the microbiota and their associated metabolites are not only closely related to carcinogenesis by inducing in?ammation and immune dysregulation,which lead to genetic instability,but also interfere with the pharmacodynamics of anticancer agents.In this article,we mainly reviewed the in?uence of gut microbiota on cancers in the gastrointestinal(GI)tract(including esophageal,gastric,colorectal,liver,and pancreatic cancers)and the regulation of microbiota by diet,prebiotics,probiotics,synbiotics,antibiotics,or the Traditional Chinese Medicine.We also proposed some new strategies in the prevention and treatment of GI cancers that could be explored in the future.We hope that this review could provide a comprehensive overview of the studies on the interactions between the gut microbiota and GI cancers,which are likely to yield translational opportunities to reduce cancer morbidity and mortality by improving prevention,diagnosis,and treatment. | Changting Meng Chunmei Bai Thomas D. It has been found that the temperature of the cathode drops markedly during the thermionic emission. For example, the temperature could fall by about 30oC under a current density of 2.92 A/cm2. Using the molecular thermodynamics, the dependence of the cathode temperature on the emission current density has been obtained. It has been theoretically pointed out that several factors, such as heating model and temperature coefficient of resis-tance of heater, can influence the cathode temperature. | 12 | Incidence of infectious complications is associated with a high mortality in patients with hepatitis B virus-related acute-on-chronic liver failure显示文摘BACKGROUND In China,hepatitis B virus-related acute-on-chronic liver failure (HBV-ACLF) is the most common liver failure characterized by serious clinical syndromes of liver decompensation with a very high mortality.Bacterial and/or fungal infections are the most common complications that are associated with high short-term mortality.Bacterial translocation from the intestine,impaired hepatic clearance,and immune paralysis of circulating immune cells are thought to contribute to infectious complications in liver failure.The control of bacterial and fungal infections is the key to improving HBV-ACLF outcomes.Active prevention,early diagnosis,and timely treatment of bacterial and fungal infections are essential for treating HBV-ACLF.AIM To investigate the frequency and role of bacterial and fungal infections in patients with HBV-ACLF.METHODS Patients with HBV-ACLF hospitalized at Taihe Hospital,Hubei University of Medicine from January 2014 to December 2017 were retrospectively enrolled.Patient-related information was retrieved from the hospital case database,including general information,blood biochemistry,complications,etc.According to the occurrence of secondary infection or not,the patients were divided into an infection group and a non-infection group.The sites,types,and incidences of bacterial and fungal infections and the influence of infections on the prognosis of HBV-ACLF were statistically analyzed.The risk factors for infections were assessed by unconditional logistic regression.RESULTS There were 174 cases of HBV-ACLF that met the enrollment criteria,of which 114 (65.52%) were diagnosed with infectious complications.Infections occurred in the abdominal cavity (87 cases),respiratory tract (51 cases),urinary tract (18 cases),and biliary tract (10 cases).Patients with infectious complications had a significantly higher 28-d mortality (70.18%,80/114) than those without (40.00%,24/60)(70.18% vs 40.00%,P < 0.05).And patients with infectious complications had a much higher incidence of non-infectious complications (54.39%,62/114)(54.39% vs 15.00%,P < 0.05),leading to an extremely high 28-d mortality of 88.71%(55/62)(P < 0.05).The grade of liver failure,period of hospital stay ≥ 30 d,age ≥ 45 years,and percentage of neutrophils > 70% were identified as risk factors for infectious complications.CONCLUSION The high incidence of infectious complications in patients with HBV-ACLF is associated with severity and deterioration of the disease and may contribute to the extremely high mortality of these patients. | Chen Wang De-Qiang Ma Sen Luo Chuan-Min Wang De-Ping Ding You-You Tian Kang-Jian Ao Yin-Hua Zhang Yue Chen Zhong-Ji Meng | 2019 | World Journal of Clinical Cases2019,7,16: | 18 |

| 14 | Safety of different acupuncture manipulations for posterior circulation ischemia with vertigo显示文摘Acupuncture at Fengchi(GB20) in the posterior neck improves vertigo.However,subarachnoid hemorrhage and spinal epidural hematoma have been reported to occur after acupuncture in the posterior neck.Therefore,in the present study,we assessed the safety of acupuncture at Fengchi.Laboratory tests and adverse event reports were used to evaluate the safety of different acupuncture manipulations for the treatment of posterior circulation ischemia with vertigo.A total of 136 patients were randomly assigned to four groups.Verum acupuncture was conducted with different needle insertion directions(contralateral paropia or prominentia laryngea) and different needle twisting frequencies(60 or 120 times/minute) at Fengchi and matching acupoints(for example,Zhongwan [CV12],Qihai [CV6],Zusanli [ST36],and Fenglong [ST40]).The patients received 14 treatments over 3–4 weeks.Routine blood analysis,hepatic and renal function tests,urine and feces tests and electrocardiography were performed before the first treatment session and after the final session.Adverse events were recorded after every session.Of the 136 patients,120 completed the study.There were no significant differences between pretreatment and posttreatment test results in any of the groups.Only five patients suffered from minor adverse events(needling pain,slight hematoma and transient chest tightness).No serious adverse events were found.Our results indicate that a 14-session course of needling at Fengchi is relatively safe for treating posterior circulation ischemia with vertigo. | Yan Wen Chao Zhang Xiao-feng Zhao Shi-zhe Deng Si He Ling-hui Huang Guang Tian Zhi-hong Meng | 2016 | Neural Regeneration Research2016,11,8: | 16 |
| 15 | Therapeutic effects of different durations of acupuncture on rats with middle cerebral artery occlusion显示文摘Acupuncture is regarded as an effective therapy for cerebral ischemia. Different acupuncture manipulations and durations may result in different therapeutic effects. In the present study, the Neig uan(PC6) acupoint of rats with occluded middle cerebral arteries was needled at a fixed frequency(3 Hz) with different durations, i.e., 5, 60 and 180 seconds under a twisting-rotating acupuncture method. Results showed that different durations of acupuncture had different therapeutic effects, with 60 seconds yielding a better therapeutic effect than the other two groups. This duration of treatment demonstrated rapid cerebral blood flow, encouraging recovery of neurological function, and small cerebral infarct volume. | 16 | Antioxidant and Anti-inflammatory Capacity of Ferulic Acid Released from Wheat Bran by Solid-state Fermentation of Aspergillus niger显示文摘Objective A strain of Aspergillus niger(A. niger), capable of releasing bound phenolic acids from wheat bran, was isolated. This strain was identified by gene sequence identification. The antioxidant and anti-inflammatory capacity of ferulic acid released from wheat bran by this A. niger strain(FA-WB) were evaluated. Methods Molecular identification techniques based on PCR analysis of specific genomic sequences were conducted; antioxidant ability was examined using oxygen radical absorbance capacity(ORAC), cellular antioxidant activity(CAA) assays, and erythrocyte hemolysis assays. RAW264.7 cells were used as a model to detect anti-inflammatory activity. Results The filamentous fungal isolate was identified to be A. niger. ORAC and CAA assay showed that FA-WB had better antioxidant activity than that of the ferulic acid standard. The erythrocyte hemolysis assay results suggested that FA-WB could attenuate AAPH-induced oxidative stress through inhibition of reactive oxy gen species(ROS) generation. FA-WB could significantly restore the AAPH-induced increase in intracellular antioxidant enzyme activities to normal levels as well as inhibit the intracellular malondialdehyde formation. TNF-?, IL-6, and NO levels indicated that FA-WB can inhibit the inflammation induced by lipopolysaccharide(LPS). The first scheme is based on the Bell-basis measurements and the re-ceiver may probabilistically reconstruct the original state by performing proper transformation on her particles and an auxiliary two-level particle; the second scheme is based on the generalized Bell-basis measurements and the probability of successfully teleporting the unknown state depends on those measurements which are adjusted by Alice. | 20 | A voltage resonance-based single-ended online fault location algorithm for DC distribution networks显示文摘A novel single-ended online fault location algorithm is investigated for DC distribution networks. The proposed algorithm calculates the fault distance based on the characteristics of the voltage resonance. The Prony's method is introduced to extract the characteristics. A novel method is proposed to solve the pseudo dual-root problem in the calculation process. The multiple data windows are adopted to enhance the robustness of the proposed algorithm. An index is proposed to evaluate the accuracy and validity of the results derived from the various data windows. The performances of the proposed algorithm in different fault scenarios were evaluated using the PSCAD/EMTDC simulations.
