1Development and validation of an endoscopic images-based deep learning model for detection with nasopharyngeal malignancies显示文摘Background:Due to the occult anatomic location of the nasopharynx and frequent presence of adenoid hyperpla-sia,the positive rate for malignancy identification during biopsy is low,thus leading to delayed or missed diagnosis for nasopharyngeal malignancies upon initial attempt.Here,we aimed to develop an artificial intelligence tool to detect nasopharyngeal malignancies under endoscopic examination based on deep learning.Methods:An endoscopic images-based nasopharyngeal malignancy detection model(eNPM-DM)consisting of a fully convolutional network based on the inception architecture was developed and fine-tuned using separate training and validation sets for both classification and segmentation.Briefly,a total of 28,966 qualified images were collected.Among these images,27,536 biopsy-proven images from 7951 individuals obtained from January 1st,2008,to December 31st,2016,were split into the training,validation and test sets at a ratio of 7:1:2 using simple randomiza-tion.Additionally,1430 images obtained from January 1st,2017,to March 31st,2017,were used as a prospective test set to compare the performance of the established model against oncologist evaluation.The dice similarity coef-ficient(DSC)was used to evaluate the efficiency of eNPM-DM in automatic segmentation of malignant area from the background of nasopharyngeal endoscopic images,by comparing automatic segmentation with manual segmenta-tion performed by the experts.Results:All images were histopathologically confirmed,and included 5713(19.7%)normal control,19,107(66.0%)nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC),335(1.2%)NPC and 3811(13.2%)benign diseases.The eNPM-DM attained an overall accuracy of 88.7%(95%confidence interval(CI)87.8%-89.5%)in detecting malignancies in the test set.In the prospective comparison phase,eNPM-DM outperformed the experts:the overall accuracy was 88.0%(95%CI 86.1%-89.6%)vs.80.5%(95%CI 77.0%-84.0%).The eNPM-DM required less time(40 s vs.110.0±5.8 min)and exhibited encouraging performance in automatic segmentation of nasopharyngeal malignant area from the background,with an average DSC of 0.78±0.24 and 0.75±0.26 in the test and prospective test sets,respectively.Conclusions:The eNPM-DM outperformed oncologist evaluation in diagnostic classification of nasopharyngeal mass into benign versus malignant,and realized automatic segmentation of malignant area from the background of nasopharyngeal endoscopic images.Chaofeng Li Bingzhong Jing Liangru Ke Bin Li Weixiong Xia Caisheng He Chaonan Qian Chong Zhao Haiqiang Mai Mingyuan Chen Kajia Cao Haoyuan Mo Ling Guo Qiuyan Chen Linquan Tang Wenze Qiu Yahui Yu Hu Liang Xinjun Huang Guoying Liu Wangzhong Li Lin Wang Rui Sun Xiong Zou Shanshan Guo Peiyu Huang Donghua Luo Fang Qiu Yishan Wu Yijun Hua Kuiyuan Liu Shuhui Lv Jingjing Miao Yanqun Xiang Ying Sun Xiang Guo Xing Lv 2018Cancer Communications2018,38,1:9
2Reduced order model for unsteady aerodynamic performance of compressor cascade based on recursive RBF显示文摘Based on Recursive Radial Basis Function(RRBF)neural network,the Reduced Order Model(ROM)of compressor cascade was established to meet the urgent demand of highly efficient prediction of unsteady aerodynamics performance of turbomachinery.One novel ROM called ASA-RRBF model based on Adaptive Simulated Annealing(ASA)algorithm was developed to enhance the generalization ability of the unsteady ROM.The ROM was verified by predicting the unsteady aerodynamics performance of a highly-loaded compressor cascade.The results show that the RRBF model has higher accuracy in identification of the dimensionless total pressure and dimensionless static pressure of compressor cascade under nonlinear and unsteady conditions,and the model behaves higher stability and computational efficiency.However,for the strong nonlinear characteristics of aerodynamic parameters,the RRBF model presents lower accuracy.Additionally,the RRBF model predicts with a large error in the identification of aerodynamic parameters under linear and unsteady conditions.For ASA-RRBF,by introducing a small-amplitude and highfrequency sinusoidal signal as validation sample,the width of the basis function of the RRBF model is optimized to improve the generalization ability of the ROM under linear unsteady conditions.Besides,this model improves the predicting accuracy of dimensionless static pressure which has strong nonlinear characteristics.The ASA-RRBF model has higher prediction accuracy than RRBF model without significantly increasing the total time consumption.This novel model can predict the linear hysteresis of dimensionless static pressure happened in the harmonic condition,but it cannot accurately predict the beat frequency of dimensionless total pressure.Jiawei HU Hanru LIU Yan'gang WANG Weixiong CHEN Yan MA 2021Chinese Journal of Aeronautics2021,34,4:7

4The efficacy and safety of nimodipine in acute ischemic stroke patients with mild cognitive impairment: a double-blind, randomized,placebo-controlled trial显示文摘Nimodipine might be effective in subcortical vascular dementia(VaD). Its benefit in preventing further cognitive decline in patients with acute ischemic stroke(AIS) and vascular mild cognitive impairment(VaMCI) remains to be established. In this multicenter, double-blind trial, we randomly assigned 654 eligible patients to nimodipine 30 mg three times a day or placebo. The primary outcome was any cognitive decline defined by the changes on the Mini-Mental State Examination(DMMSE à3) or vascular AD assessment scale cognitive subscale(DADAS-cog ! 4) at 6 months. Secondary outcomes included any distribution shift of DADAS-cog, DMMSE or cognitive improvement defined by DADAS-cog à2, or DMMSE ! 0. The primary outcome in the nimodipine group and placebo group were similar for DMMSE à3(4.18% and 7.22%, respectively, P = 0.15) and DADAS-cog ! 4(8.36% and 8.93% respectively,P = 0.88). The distribution shift of DADAS-cog and DMMSE differed significantly between the two groups(P = 0.03 and P = 0.05 respectively). Cognitive improvement occurred in 55.4% in the nimodipine group and 43.6% in the placebo group measured by DADAS-cog à2(Odds Ratio, 1.54; 95% confidence interval[CI] 1.10–2.14, P < 0.01) or 84.0% and 74.6% respectively by DMMSE ! 0(Odds Ratio, 1.79; 95% CI 1.18–2.70, P < 0.01). Nimodipine was associated with better cognitive function in the memory domain. The adverse events rate was similar in two groups. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov,NCT01220622. 5Reducing active layer thickness of polyamide composite membranes using a covalent organic framework interlayer in interfacial polymerization显示文摘Polyamide(PA)-based thin-film composite membranes exhibit enormous potential in water purification,owing to their facile fabrication,decent performance and desirable stability.However,the thick PA active layer with high transport resistance from the conventional interfacial polymerization hampers their applications.The controllable fabrication of a thin PA active layer is essential for high separation efficiency but still challenging.Herein,a covalent organic framework TpPa-1 interlayer was firstly deposited on a polyethersulfone(PES)substrate to reduce the thickness of PA active layer in interfacial polymerization.The abundant pores of TpPa-1 increase the local concentration of amine monomers by adsorbing piperazine molecules,while hydrogen bonds between hydrophilic groups of TpPa-1 and piperazine molecules slow down their diffusion rate.Arising from those synergetic effects,the PA active layer is effectively reduced from 200 nm to 120 nm.By optimizing TpPa-1 interlayer and PA active layer,the water flux of resultant membranes can reach 171.35 L·m^-2·h^-1·MPa^-1,which increased by 125.4%compared with PA/PES membranes,while the rejection rates of sodium sulfate and dyes solution remained more than 90%and 99%,respectively.Our strategy may stimulate rational design of ultrathin PA-based nanofiltration membranes with high performances.Meidi Wang Weixiong Guo Zhongyi Jiang Fusheng Pan 2020Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2020,28,4:5
6Application of response surface methodology to the chemical cleaning process of ultrafiltration membrane显示文摘A numerical model was established to predict and optimise the chemical cleaning process of Polyvinylidene Fluoride(PVDF)Ultra filtration(UF)membranes with the results from the experiment that applied the Response Surface Method(RSM)and Central Composite Design(CCD).The factors considered in the experimental design were sodium hydroxide(NaOH)concentration,sodium hypochlorite concentration(NaClO),citric acid concentration and cleaning duration.The interactions between the factors were investigated with the numerical model.Humic acid(20 mg·L-1)was used as the model foulant,and chemical enhanced back flush(CEB)was employed to simulate the chemical cleaning process.The concentrations of sodium hydroxide,sodium hypochlorite,citric acid and cleaning duration tested during the experiments were in the range of 0.1%–0.3%,100–300 mg·L-1,1%–3%and 0.5–1.5 h,respectively.Among the variables,the sodium hypochlorite concentration and the cleaning duration showed a positive relationship involving the increased ef ficiency of the chemical cleaning.The chemical cleaning ef ficiency was hardly improved with increasing concentrations of sodium hydroxide.However,the data was sharply decreased when at a low level of sodium hydroxide concentration.In total,54 sets of cleaning schemes with 80%to 100%cleaning ef ficiency were observed with the RSM model after calibration.Caihong Wang Aishu Wei Hao Wu Fangshu Qu Weixiong Chen Heng Liang Guibai Li 2016Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2016,24,5:4
7Size distribution and chemical composition of secondary organic aerosol formed from Cl-initiated oxidation of toluene显示文摘Secondary organic aerosol (SOA) formed from Cl-initiated oxidation of toluene was investigated in a home-made smog chamber. The size distribution and chemical composition of SOA particles were measured using aerodynamic particle sizer spectrometer and the aerosol laser time-of-flight mass spectrometer (ALTOFMS), respectively. According to a large number of single aerosol diameter and mass spectra, the size distribution and chemical composition of SOA were obtained statistically. Experimental results showed that SOA particles created by Cl-initiated oxidation of toluene is predominantly in the form of fine particles, which have diameters less than 2.5 μm (i.e., PM2.5), and glyoxal, benzaldehyde, benzyl alcohol, benzoquinone, benzoic acid, benzyl hydroperoxide and benzyl methyl nitrate are the major products components in the SOA. 8Study of brain morphology change in Alzheimer’s disease and amnestic mild cognitive impairment compared with normal controls显示文摘Background With an aggravated social ageing level, the number of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) is gradually increasing, and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is considered to be an early form of Alzheimer's disease. How to distinguish diseases in the early stage for the purposes of early diagnosis and treatment is an important topic. Aims The purpose of our study was to investigate the differences in brain cortical thickness and surface area among elderly patients with AD, elderly patients with amnestic MCI (aMCI) and normal controls (NC). Methods 20 AD patients, 21 aMCIs and 25 NC were recruited in the study. FreeSurfer software was used to calculate cortical thickness and surface area among groups. Results The patients with AD had less cortical thickness both in the left and right hemisphere in 17 of the 36 brain regions examined than the patients with aMCI or NC. The patients with AD also had smaller cerebral surface area both in the left and right hemisphere in 3 of the 36 brain regions examined than the patients with aMCI or NC. Compared with the NC, the patients with aMCI only had slight atrophy in the inferior parietal lobe of the left hemisphere, and no significant difference was found. Conclusion AD, as well as aMCI (to a lesser extent), is associated with reduced cortical thickness and surface area in a few brain regions associated with cognitive impairment. 9Effects of Ginsenoside Rg1 on nuclear factor-kappa B activity in beta amyloid protein-treated neural cells显示文摘BACKGROUND:Modern pharmacological studies have shown that Ginsenoside Rg1 is one of the active components of ginseng that promote intelligence in the nervous system.Ginsenoside Rg1 can improve memory and learning in mouse models ofβ-amyloid protein(Aβ)-induced dementia. OBJECTIVE:To investigate whether effects of Ginsenoside Rg1 against Aβare associated with activity of nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-κB). DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:The randomized,controlled,cell biological experiment was performed at the DME Center,Institute of Clinical Pharmacology,Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine,China from July 2005 to May 2006. MATERIALS:Beta-amyloid fragment 25-35(Aβ_(25-35)) was supplied by the Neural Biochemical Laboratory,Xuanwu Hospital,Capital Medical University,China.Ginsenoside Rg1 was obtained from National Institute for the Control of Pharmaceutical and Biological Products,China.Rabbit anti-rat NF-κB p65 antibody was purchased from Santa Cruz Biotechnology,USA. METHODS:Hippocampal neurons and cortical astrocytes of neonatal Sprague Dawley rats were harvested and treated with various concentrations(0,5,10,20,and 40μmol/L) of Aβfor 6,12,and 24 hours to establish cellular models of Alzheimer's disease.Cellular models were pretreated with various concentrations of Ginsenoside Rg1(1,2,4,8,and 16μmol/L).According to cell morphology and activity,the following conditions were selected:40μmol/L Aβfor 24 hours,as well as 2,4,and 8μmol/L Ginsenoside Rg1.NF-κB activity was observed using immunofluorescence and cytochemical staining. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Morphology and viability of hippocampal neurons and cortical astrocytes,and activities of NF-κB were measured. RESULTS:Hippocampal neuron activity was significantly greater in the normal and 2 and 4μmol/L Ginsenoside Rg1 groups compared with the model group(P<0.05).Astrocyte activity was significantly greater in the normal,1,2,4,8,and 16μmol/L Ginsenoside Rg1 groups compared with the model group(P<0.05).NF-κB activity of hippocampal neurons was significantly greater in the normal,2,4,and 8μmol/L Ginsenoside Rg1 groups compared with the model group(P<0.01). NF-κB activity of astrocytes was significantly less in the normal,2,4,and 8μmol/L Ginsenoside Rg1 groups compared with the model group(P<0.01 or P<0.05).No significant difference in NF-κB activity was determined between the 2μmol/L Ginsenoside Rg1 and normal groups(P>0.05). 10Investigation of the Unsteady Disturbance in Tip Region of a Contra-Rotating Compressor near Stall显示文摘The present study investigated the spectrum characteristics of unsteady disturbance and the tip leakage vortex evolution during pre-stall process for a contra-rotating axial compressor(CRAC). Transient numerical simulation was carried out in a single passage of the CRAC. The original transient fluctuation and oscillation of the tip leakage vortex structure with varying flow capacity of the CRAC were revealed using circle-like pattern figure and phase-locked root mean square(PLRMS). Additionally, the tip leakage flow in terms of vortex structure evolution was visualized for the sake of revealing the flow mechanism during pre-stall process. Results show that the unsteady fluctuation first appears at φ=0.3622, and the fluctuation frequency is 2.86 BPF. Unsteady disturbance source is mainly located at the tip side of the downstream rotor leading edge. From the choking point to the near stall condition, tip leakage vortex is always found in the tip leading edge of the upstream rotor. In addition, the tip leakage vortex of upstream rotor remains in the same place over time, i.e., no fluctuation, even when the downstream rotor entered into stall state. Such a phenomenon indicates that the stall point of the contra-rotating compressor is determined by the downstream rotor. Moreover, the maximum fluctuation position is mainly concentrated on the interface between the mainstream and the tip leakage vortex of the downstream rotor. By throttling the compressor, the angle between the main leakage vortex and the circumferential direction decreases gradually. 14Mechanisms of antinociceptive effects of ouabain in combination with neostigmine in the rat显示文摘BACKGROUND: It has been previously shown that intrathecal administration of either ouabain or neostigmine can produce antinociceptive effects. Moreover, ouabain and neostigmine are differently associated with acetylcholine. OBJECTIVE: It has been hypothesized that intrathecal administration of ouabain, in combination with neostigmine, can produce antinociceptive synergistic effects. Atropine, as a competitive antagonist, was pre-injected to verify the mechanisms of action. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: This study was a randomized, controlled, animal experiment, performed at the State Key Laboratory of Oncology in Southern China between May 2006 and February 2007. MATERIALS: A total of 102 healthy, adult, Sprague Dawley rats were included. Ouabain and neostigmine (Sigma, USA), as well as atropine (Tanabe Seiyaku, Japan), were also used. METHODS: Varied doses of ouabain, neostigmine, and a combination of the two were intrathecally injected into rats. Six rats were allotted for each dose group. Intrathecal pretreatment with atropine was tested 10 minutes prior to intrathecal administration of neostigmine or the combination of ouabain and neostigmine. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Tail-flick tests were performed to measure tail-flick latency (seconds) prior to and after administration. The response in the tail-flick test was expressed as the percentage of maximum possible effect (% MPE), where % MPE = [tail-flick latency after administration (seconds) -mean baseline value for tail-flick latency]/[10 seconds - the mean baseline value for tail-flick latency (seconds)] × 100%. RESULTS: Rat spinal intrathecal administration of either ouabain or neostigmine alone produced antinociceptive effects in a dose-dependent manner. Intrathecally administration of neostigmine (0.05, 0.1, 0.3 μg ) in combination with ouabain (1 μg ) produced enhanced antinociceptive effects, with a % MPE of 29%, 78%, and 95%, respectively (P < 0.05). Intrathecally administration of 0.3 μg neostigmine (% MPE: 45%), in combination with 1 μg ouabain (% MPE: 27%) produced potent antinociceptive effects (% MPE: 95%). Intrathecally pre-injected atropine antagonized the antinociceptive effects of neostigmine (3 μg), or a combination of ouabain (1 μg) and neostigmine (0.3 μg) (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: Rat spinal intrathecal administration of either ouabain or neostigmine alone produced dose-dependent antinociceptive effects. Ouabain enhanced the antinociceptive effects of neostigmine. Atropine antagonized the antinociceptive effects of neostigmine or the combination of ouabain and neostigmine. 18Solution Remapping Method with Lower Bound Preservation for Navier-Stokes Equations in Aerodynamic Shape Optimization显示文摘It is found that the solution remapping technique proposed in[Numer.Math.Theor.Meth.Appl.,2020,13(4)]and[J.Sci.Comput.,2021,87(3):1-26]does not work out for the Navier-Stokes equations with a high Reynolds number.The shape deformations usually reach several boundary layer mesh sizes for viscous flow,which far exceed one-layer mesh that the original method can tolerate.The direct application to Navier-Stokes equations can result in the unphysical pressures in remapped solutions,even though the conservative variables are within the reasonable range.In this work,a new solution remapping technique with lower bound preservation is proposed to construct initial values for the new shapes,and the global minimum density and pressure of the current shape which serve as lower bounds of the corresponding variables are used to constrain the remapped solutions.The solution distribution provided by the present method is proven to be acceptable as an initial value for the new shape.Several numerical experiments show that the present technique can substantially accelerate the flow convergence for large deformation problemswith 70%-80%CPU time reduction in the viscous airfoil drag minimization.Bin Zhang Weixiong Yuan Kun Wang Jufang Wang Tiegang Liu 2023Communications in Computational Physics2023,33,5:0
19Recent progress in co-detection of single-cell transcripts and proteins显示文摘Cellular heterogeneity is a universal property of living systems,and the interrogation of single cells facilitates in-depth understanding of distinct cellular states and functions in various biological processes.Co-analysis of transcripts and proteins from the same single cells opens the way to decipher complex RNA regulatory frameworks and phenotypes,facilitating the understanding of cellular fate and function regulations,discovery of novel cell types,and construction of a high-resolution cell atlas.Herein,we review the state-of-art advances in the development of methodologies for co-analysis of single-cell transcripts and proteins.First,imaging-based methods are summarized with particular emphasis on optical and mass spectrometry imaging.Next,sequencing-based approaches for high-throughput and sensitive co-analysis of single-cell transcripts and proteins are described,including droplet-,microwell-,and split-pool-based platforms.Subsequently,combined methods with more flexibility and universality are discussed.These methods commonly employ different strategies or reactions to convert transcripts and proteins of single cells into distinct signals simultaneously,which can be detected by different instruments or platforms.Lastly,some perspectives on the future challenges and development trends in this field are presented.Shanqing Huang Qian Fan Yidi Wang Zhi Huang Weixiong Shi Yanli Gong Ting Yang Jie Wang Lingling Wu Chaoyong Yang 2024Nano Research2024,17,1:0
20Ferroelastic phase transitions in three new layered perovskites:(3-XC_(6)H_(5)CH_(2)CH_(2)NH_(3))_(2)[CdCl_(4)](X=F,Cl,and Br)显示文摘Two-dimensional organic-inorganic hybrid ferroelastics with high-temperature reversible phase transitions are very rare and have become one of the research hotspots in the field of ferroelastic materials.Herein,we report three new layered organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites based on halogen-substituted phenethylaminium,(3-XC_(6)H_(5)CH_(2)CH_(2)NH_(3))_(2)[CdCl_(4)](X=F(1),CI(2)and Br(3)).They undergo structural phase transitions at 376/371 K,436/430 K,and 421/411 K,respectively,between the isomorphic hightemperature phases(space group I4/mmm,Z=2)and different room-temperature phases with the reduced structural symmetries,i.e.,P21/a(Z=2)in 1,Pi(Z=4)in 2,and P21/a(Z=4)in 3,respectively.These ferroelastic transitions arise from the order-disorder transition of organic cations together with the synchronous displacement of inorganic layers,accompanying with feroelastic spontaneous strains of 0.16,0.13 and 0.12 for 1-3,respectively.By enriching layered perovskite ferroelastics based on halogensubstituted cations,this work provides important clues for exploring new ferroic materials based on hybrid crystals.Yaping Gong Xiaoxian Chen Bingqing Zhao Jun Wang Weixiong Zhang Xiaomin Chen 2023Chinese Chemical Letters2023,34,12:0
