| 1 | DNA image cytometry test for primary screening of esophageal cancer: a population-based multi-center study in high-risk areas in China显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the feasibility of DNA image cytometry(DNA-ICM) as a primary screening method for esophageal squamous cell cancer(ESCC).Methods: A total of 5,382 local residents aged 40–69 years from three high-risk areas in China(Linzhou in Henan province, Feicheng in Shandong province and Cixian in Hebei province) from 2008 to 2011 were recruited in this population-based screening study. And 2,526 subjects declined to receive endoscopic biopsy examination with Lugol's iodine staining, while 9 and 815 subjects were excluded from liquid-based cytology and DNA-ICM test respectively due to slide quality. Finally, 2,856, 5,373 and 4,567 subjects were enrolled in the analysis for endoscopic biopsy examination, liquid-based cytology and DNA-ICM test, respectively. Sensitivity(SE), specificity(SP), negative predictive values(NPV) and positive predictive values(PPV) as well as their 95% confidence intervals(95% CI) for DNA-ICM, liquid-based cytology and the combination of the two methods were calculated. Receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curves were applied to determine the cutoff point of DNA-ICM for esophageal cancer.Results: DNA-ICM results were significantly correlative with esophageal cancer and precancer lesions(χ~2=18.016, P<0.001). The cutoff points were 5,802, 5,803 and 8,002 based on dissimilar pathological types of low grade intraepithelial neoplasia(LGIN), high grade intraepithelial neoplasia(HGIN), and ESCC, respectively, and 5,803 was chosen in this study considering the SE and SP. The SE, SP, PPV, NPV of DNA-ICM test(cutoff point 5,803) combined with liquid-based cytology [threshold atypical squamous cells of undetermined significance(ASCUS)] were separately 72.1%(95% CI: 70.3%-73.9%), 43.3%(95% CI: 41.3%-45.3%), 22.8%(95% CI: 21.1%-24.5%) and 87.0%(95% CI: 85.7%-88.3%) for LGIN, 85.7%(95% CI: 84.3%-87.1%), 41.3%(95% CI: 39.3%-43.3%), 4.6%(95% CI: 3.8%-5.4%) and 98.9%(95% CI: 98.5%-99.3%) for HGIN, and 96.0%(95% CI: 95.2%-96.8%), 40.8%(95% CI: 38.8%-42.8%), 1.7%(95% CI: 1.2%-2.2%) and 99.9%(95% CI: 99.8%-100.0%) for ESCC.Conclusions: It is possible to use DNA-ICM test as a primary screening method before endoscopic screening for esophageal cancer. | Meng Wang Changqing Hao Qing Ma Guohui Song Shanrui Ma Deli Zhao Lin Zhao Xinqing Li Wenqiang Wei | 2016 | Chinese Journal of Cancer Research2016,28,4: | 15 |
| 2 | Genome-wide analysis of BES1 genes in Gossypium revealed their evolutionary conserved roles in brassinosteroid signaling显示文摘Brassinosteroids(BRs), which are essential phytohormones for plant growth and development, are important for cotton fiber development. Additionally, BES1 transcription factors are critical for BR signal transduction. However, cotton BES1 family genes have not been comprehensively characterized. In this study, we identified 11 BES1 genes in G. arboreum, 11 in G.raimondii, 16 in G. barbadense, and 22 in G. hirsutum. The BES1 sequences were significantly conserved in the Arabidopsis thaliana, rice, and upland cotton genomes. A total of 94 BES1 genes from 10 different plant species were divided into three clades according to the neighbor-joining and minimum-evolution methods. Moreover, the exon/intron patterns and motif distributions were highly conserved among the A. thaliana and cotton BES1 genes. The collinearity among the orthologs from the At and Dt subgenomes was estimated. Segmental duplications in the At and Dt subgenomes were primarily responsible for the expansion of the cotton BES1 gene family. Of the GhBES1 genes, GhBES1.4_At/Dt exhibited BL-induced expression and was predominantly expressed in fibers. Furthermore, Col-0/mGhBES1.4_At plants produced curled leaves with long and bent petioles. These transgenic plants also exhibited decreased hypocotyl sensitivity to brassinazole and constitutive BR induced/repressed gene expression patterns. | 3 | Autonomous navigation for a wolfberry picking robot using visual cues and fuzzy control显示文摘Lycium barbarum commonly known as wolfberry or Goji is considered an important ingredient in Japanese,Korean,Vietnamese,and Chinese food and medicine.It is cultivated extensively in these countries and is usually harvested manually,which is laborintensive and tedious task.To improve the efficiency of harvesting and reduce manual labor,automatic harvesting technology has been investigated by many researchers in recent years.In this paper,an autonomous navigation algorithm using visual cues and fuzzy control is proposed for Wolfberry orchards.At first,we propose a new weightage(2.4B-0.9G-R)to convert a color image into a grayscale image for better identification of the trunk of Lycium barbarum,the minimum positive circumscribed rectangle is used to describe the contours.Then,using the contour points the least square method is used to fit the navigation line and a region of interest(ROI)is computed that improves the realtime accuracy of the system.Finally,a set of fuzzy controllers,for pneumatic steering system,is designed to achieve real-time autonomous navigation in wolfberry orchard.Static image experiments show that the average accuracy rate of the algorithm is above 90%,and the average time consumption is approximately 162 ms,with good robustness and real-time performance.The experimental results show that when the speed is 1 km/h,the maximum lateral deviation is less than 6.2 cm and the average lateral deviation is 2.9 cm,which meets the requirements of automatic picking of wolfberry picking robot in real-world environments. | Yue Ma Wenqiang Zhang Waqar S.Qureshi Chao Gao Chunlong Zhang Wei Li | 2021 | Information Processing in Agriculture2021,8,1: | 7 |
| 4 | Alleviation of mycotoxin biodegradation agent on zearalenone and deoxynivalenol toxicosis in immature gilts显示文摘Background: The current study was carried out to evaluate the effects of mycotoxin biodegradation agent(MBA, composed of Bacillus subtilis ANSB01 G and Devosia sp. ANSB714) on relieving zearalenone(ZEA) and deoxynivalenol(DON) toxicosis in immature gilts.Methods: A total of forty pre-pubertal female gilts(61.42 ± 1.18 kg) were randomly allocated to four diet treatments: CO(positive control); MO(negative control, ZEA 596.86 μg/kg feed and DON 796 μg/kg feed);COA(CO + 2 g MBA/kg feed); MOA(MO + 2 g MBA/kg feed). Each treatment contained 10 replicates with 1 gilt per replicate. Gilts were housed in an environmentally controlled room with the partially slatted floor.Results: During the entire experimental period of 28 d, average daily gain(ADG) and average daily feed intake(ADFI)of gilts in MO group was significantly reduced compared with those in CO group. The vulva size of gilts was significantly higher in MO group than CO group. In addition, significant increases in the plasma levels of Ig A,Ig G, IL-8, IL-10 and PRL were determined in MO group compared with that in CO group. ZEA and DON in the diet upregulated apoptotic caspase-3 in ovaries and uteri, along with down-regulated the anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2 in ovaries. The supplementation of MBA into diets co-contaminated with ZEA and DON significantly increased ADG, decreased the vulva sizes, reduced the levels of Ig G, IL-8 and PRL in plasma, and regulated apoptosis in ovaries and uteri of gilts.Conclusions: The present results indicated that feeding diet contaminated with ZEA and DON simultaneously(596.86 μg/kg + 796 μg/kg) had detrimental effects on growth performance, plasma immune function and reproductive status of gilts. | 6 | Efficacy of endoscopic treatment on patients with severe dysplasia/carcinoma in situ of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma: A prospective cohort study显示文摘Objective: To explore the natural history of severe dysplasia/carcinoma in situ(SD/CIS) patients and to evaluate the efficacy of endoscopic treatment to SD/CIS patients.Methods: Between January 2005 and December 2009, a population-based prospective screening program on esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC) was performed in Linzhou, China, with endoscopic screening plus iodine staining. All the eligible histologically confirmed SD/CIS patients were followed up through the door-todoor follow-up and local cancer registry. The endpoint was diagnosed as ESCC or the December 31 st, 2016.Kaplan-Meier survival analysis and Log-rank test were used to compare the survival rates among treated and untreated patients.Results: A total of 175 SD/CIS patients were enrolled and grouped by whether they received endoscopic treatment. Eleven-year cumulative incidence rates for untreated and treated SD/CIS patients were 10.7% [95%confidence interval(95% CI): 6.9-16.1] and 3.2%(95% CI: 1.4-7.0), respectively. The ESCC incidence free survival rate, and all-cause incidence and mortality free survival rates were all significantly higher in the treated patients vs. untreated patients(P=0.043, P=0.008 and P=0.015, respectively). The ESCC mortality free survival rate showed no significant differences between the two groups(P=0.847).Conclusions: The cumulative incidence rate of SD/CIS patients to ESCC was much lower than previously reported. | 7 | Effect of exogenous application of salicylic acid on the drought stress responses of Gardenia jasminoides显示文摘The alleviative effects of exogenous salicylic acid(SA) on plants against drought stress were assessed in Gardenia jasminoides seedlings treated with different concentrations of SA.Drought stress was simulated to a moderate level by 15% polyethylene glycol(PEG) 6000 treatment.Seedlings exposed to 15% PEG for 14 days exhibited a decrease in aboveground and underground dry mass,seedling height,root length,relative water content,photosynthetic pigment content,net photosynthetic rate(Pn),transpiration rate(Tr),stomatal conductance(Gs),and water use efficiency.In PEG-stressed plants,the levels of proline,malondialdehyde(MDA),hydrogen peroxide(H_2O_2),and electrolyte leakage rose significantly,whereas antioxidative activity,including superoxide,peroxidase,and catalase activities,declined in leaves.However,the presence of SA provided an effective method of mitigating PEG-caused physiological stresses on G.jasminoides seedlings,which depended on SA levels.PEG-treated plants exposed to SA at 0.5–1.0 mmol/L significantly eased PEG-induced growth inhibition.Application of SA,especially at concentrations of 0.5–1.0 mmol/L,considerably improved photosynthetic pigments,photosynthesis,antioxidative activity,relative water content,and proline accumulation,and decreased MDA content,H_2O_2 content,and electrolyte leakage.By contrast,the positive effects were not evident,or even more severe,in PEG+SA4 treatment.Based on these physiological and biochemical data,a suitable concentration of SA,potential growth regulators,could be applied to enhance the drought tolerance of G.jasminoides. | XiaMei Yao Jing Ma Jing Ji Chun Ou WenQiang Gao | 2016 | Research in Cold and Arid Regions2016,8,1: | 3 |

| 14 | Correlation between heart rate variability and pupillary reflex in healthy adult subjects under the influence of alcohol显示文摘This study explored the association between pupil area variation, heart rate variability, and fatigue, caused by alcohol consumption. Sixteen healthy young male volunteers were enrolled in this study for a series of structured physical examinations. Individual drinking volume was strictly assessed in accordance with the normalized experimental design. The motions of the subjects' pupils, as well as electrocardiograms were recorded by a computerized recording system, both before and after drinking alcohol. After alcohol intake, the pupil diameter, and both low frequency and standard deviation of all heartbeat interval indices of heart rate variability showed significant variations compared with the baseline. In addition, time- and frequency-domain indices of heart rate variability were negatively associated with pupil area. | 17 | GreenPhos,a universal method for in-depth measurement of plant phosphoproteomes with high quantitative reproducibility显示文摘Protein phosphorylation regulates a variety of important cellular and physiological processes in plants.In-depth profiling of plant phosphoproteomes has been more technically challenging than that of animal phosphoproteomes.This is largely due to the need to improve protein extraction efficiency from plant cells,which have a dense cell wall,and to minimize sample loss resulting from the stringent sample clean-up steps required for the removal of a large amount of biomolecules interfering with phosphopeptide purification and mass spectrometry analysis.To this end,we developed a method with a streamlined workflow for highly efficient purification of phosphopeptides from tissues of various green organisms including Arabidopsis,rice,tomato,and Chlamydomonas reinhardtii,enabling in-depth identification with high quantitative reproducibility of about 11000 phosphosites,the greatest depth achieved so far with single liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry(LC-MS)runs operated in a data-dependent acquisition(DDA)mode.The mainstay features of the method are the minimal sample loss achieved through elimination of sample clean-up before protease digestion and of desalting before phosphopeptide enrichment and hence the dramatic increases of time-and cost-effectiveness.The method,named GreenPhos,combined with single-shot LC-MS,enabled in-depth quantitative identification of Arabidopsis phosphoproteins,including differentially phosphorylated spliceosomal proteins,at multiple time points during salt stress and a number of kinase substrate motifs.GreenPhos is expected to serve as a universal method for purification of plant phosphopeptides,which,if samples are further fractionated and analyzed by multiple LC-MS runs,could enable measurement of plant phosphoproteomes with an unprecedented depth using a given mass spectrometry technology. | Xiaoxiao Duan Yuanya Zhang Xiahe Huang Xiao Ma Hui Gao Yan Wang Zhen Xiao Chengcheng Huang Zhongshu Wang Bolong Li Wenqiang Yang Yingchun Wang | 2024 | Molecular Plant2024,17,1: | 0 |
| 18 | Response of soil respiration to short-term changes in precipitation and nitrogen addition in a desert steppe显示文摘Changes in precipitation and nitrogen(N)addition may significantly affect the processes of soil carbon(C)cycle in terrestrial ecosystems,such as soil respiration.However,relatively few studies have investigated the effects of changes in precipitation and N addition on soil respiration in the upper soil layer in desert steppes.In this study,we conducted a control experiment that involved a field simulation from July 2020 to December 2021 in a desert steppe in Yanchi County,China.Specifically,we measured soil parameters including soil temperature,soil moisture,total nitrogen(TN),soil organic carbon(SOC),soil microbial biomass carbon(SMBC),soil microbial biomass nitrogen(SMBN),and contents of soil microorganisms including bacteria,fungi,actinomyces,and protozoa,and determined the components of soil respiration including soil respiration with litter(RS+L),soil respiration without litter(RS),and litter respiration(RL)under short-term changes in precipitation(control,increased precipitation by 30%,and decreased precipitation by 30%)and N addition(0.0 and 10.0 g/(m^(2)·a))treatments.Our results indicated that short-term changes in precipitation and N addition had substantial positive effects on the contents of TN,SOC,and SMBC,as well as the contents of soil actinomyces and protozoa.In addition,N addition significantly enhanced the rates of RS+L and RS by 4.8%and 8.0%(P<0.05),respectively.The increase in precipitation markedly increased the rates of RS+L and RS by 2.3%(P<0.05)and 5.7%(P<0.001),respectively.The decrease in precipitation significantly increased the rates of RS+L and RS by 12.9%(P<0.05)and 23.4%(P<0.001),respectively.In contrast,short-term changes in precipitation and N addition had no significant effects on RL rate(P>0.05).The mean RL/RS+L value observed under all treatments was 27.63%,which suggested that RL is an important component of soil respiration in the desert steppe ecosystems.The results also showed that short-term changes in precipitation and N addition had significant interactive effects on the rates of RS+L,RS,and RL(P<0.001).In addition,soil temperature was the most important abiotic factor that affected the rates of RS+L,RS,and RL.Results of the correlation analysis demonstrated that the rates of RS+L,RS,and RL were closely related to soil temperature,soil moisture,TN,SOC,and the contents of soil microorganisms,and the structural equation model revealed that SOC and SMBC are the key factors influencing the rates of RS+L,RS,and RL.This study provides further insights into the characteristics of soil C emissions in desert steppe ecosystems in the context of climate change,which can be used as a reference for future related studies. | MA Jinpeng PANG Danbo HE Wenqiang ZHANG Yaqi WU Mengyao LI Xuebin CHEN Lin | 2023 | Journal of Arid Land2023,15,9: | 0 |

| 20 | Hyperspectral detection of walnut protein contents based on improved whale optimized algorithm显示文摘Nondestructive and accurate estimation of walnut kernel protein content is important for food quality grading and profitability improvement of walnut packinghouses.Hyperspectral image technology provides potential solutions for walnuts nutrients detection by obtaining both spectral and textural information.However,the redundancy and large computation of spectral data prevent the widespread application of hyperspectral technology for high throughput evaluation.For walnut kernel protein inversion from hyperspectral image,this study proposed a novel feature selection method,which is named as improved whale optimized algorithm(IWOA).In the IWOA,a comprehensive feature selection criterion was applied in the iterative process,which fully considered the relevance of spectra information with target variables,representative ability of the selected wavebands to entire spectra,and redundancy of the selected wavebands.Especially in the relevance with target variables,the amplitude and shape characteristics of the spectra were both taken into consideration.Eight wavelengths around 996,1225,1232,1377,1552,1600,1691 and 1700 nm were then selected as the sensitive wavelengths to walnut protein.These wavelengths showed good correlation with certain chemical compounds related to protein contents mechanistically.Then three protein prediction models were established.After analysis and comparison,the model based on the selected wavelengths got better results with the one based on the full spectrum.Compared to the models based on solely spectral information,the model that combine spectral and textural information outperformed and got the best prediction results.The R2 in the calibration group was 0.9047,and the root mean square errors(RMSE)was 11.1382 g/kg.In the validation group,the R2 was 0.8537,and the RMSE was 18.9288 g/kg.The results demonstrated that the combination of the selected wavelengths through the IWOA with the textural characteristics could effectively estimate walnut protein contents.And the proposed method can be extended to the detection and inversion of other nutritional variables of nuts. | Yao Zhang Zezhong Tian Wenqiang Ma Man Zhang Liling Yang | 2022 | International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering2022,15,4: | 0 |
