| 3 | Effects of litter quality and climate change along an elevational gradient on litter decomposition of subalpine forests, Eastern Tibetan Plateau, China显示文摘Temperature and freeze-thaw events are two key factors controlling litter decomposition in cold biomes.Predicted global warming and changes in freeze-thaw cycles therefore may directly or indirectly impact litter decomposition in those ecosystems. Here, we conducted a2-year-long litter decomposition experiment along an elevational gradient from 3000 to 3600 m to determine the potential effects of litter quality, climate warming and freeze-thaw on the mass losses of three litter types [dragon spruce(Picea asperata Mast.), red birch(Betula albosinensis Burk.), and minjiang fir(Abies faxoniana Rehd. et Wild)]. Marked differences in mass loss were observed among the litter types and sampling dates. Decay constant(k) values of red birch were significantly higher than those of the needle litters. However, mass losses between elevations did not differ significantly for any litter type.During the winter, lost mass contributed 18.3–28.8 % of the net loss rates of the first year. Statistical analysis showed that the relationships between mass loss and litter chemistry or their ratios varied with decomposition periods. Our results indicated that short-term field incubations could overestimate the k value of litter decomposition.Considerable mass was lost from subalpine forest litters during the wintertime. | 6 | Effects of Alloying Elements on Microstructure and Erosion Resistance of Fe-C-Cr Weld Surfacing Layer显示文摘Effects of alloying elements on microstructure and erosion resistance of Fe-C-Cr weld surfacing layer have been studied. The experimental results show that increasing C and Cr content favors improving the erosion resistance of the layer, and the excessive C and Cr result in decreasing the erosion resistance at 90 deg. erosion. That Mo, Nb or Ti improves the erosion resistance of Fe-C-Cr weld surfacing layer is mainly attributed to increasing the amount of M7C3 and forming fine NbC or TiC in austenite matrix, but the excessive Mo, Nb or Ti is unfavorable. | 7 | Hypertrophic adenoids in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma:appearance at magnetic resonance imaging before and after treatment显示文摘Introduction:Patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC) sporadically develop abnormal adenoids.Nasopharyngeal adenoids are usually included in the gross tumor volume(GTV) but may have different therapeutic responses than tumor tissue.Therefore,distinguishing adenoids from tumor tissue may be required for precise and efficient chemoradiotherapy and radiotherapy.We characterized nasopharyngeal adenoids and investigated the therapeutic responses of NPC and nasopharyngeal adenoids using magnetic resonance imaging(MRI).Methods:MRI data from 40 NPC patients with a coexisting adenoid mass before and after treatment were analyzed.The features of the adenoid masses,including location,striped appearance,size,interface,symmetry/asymmetry,and cysts,were evaluated.Treatment response were scored according to the World Health Organization guidelines.Results:A striped appearance was observed in 36 cases before treatment and in all cases after treatment.In these 36 cases,the average GTVs including and excluding the uninvolved adenoids were 19.8 cm^3 and 14.8 cm^3,respectively.The average percentage change after excluding the uninvolved adenoids from the GTV was 31.0%.Stable disease in the adenoids was identified in 27(96.4%) of 28 patients after neoadjuvant chemotherapy,while NPC clearly regressed.Partial adenoid responses were identified in 33(82.5%) of 40 patients at 3 months after chemoradiotherapy or radiotherapy,whereas complete tumor responses were achieved in all patients.Six months after treatment,the adenoids continued to atrophy but did not disappear,and tumor recurrence was not found.Conclusions:Nasopharyngeal adenoids and carcinoma tissue in NPC patients can be distinguished by using MRI and have different responses to chemoradiotherapy and radiotherapy.These findings contribute to better delineating the GTV of NPC,based on which spatially optimized strategies can be developed to render precise and efficient chemoradiotherapy and radiotherapy.Additionally,we observed a clear difference in the responses of these two tissue types to current therapies.This finding may reduce or avoid unnecessary biopsies or overtreatment. | Yao-Pan Wu Pei-Qiang Cai Li Tian Jie-Hua Xu Richard Alan Mitteer Jr Yi Fan Zhenfeng Zhang | 2015 | Chinese Journal of Cancer2015,34,3: | 4 |
| 8 | Fluorescent AIE dots encapsulated organically modified silica (ORMOSIL) nanoparticles for two-photon cellular imaging显示文摘2,3-Bis(4-(phenyl(4-(1,2,2-triphenylvinyl)phenyl)amino)phenyl) fumaronitrile (TPE-TPA-FN or TTF), which possesses aggregation-induced emission (AIE) characteristic, is doped in organically modified silica (ORMOSIL) nanoparticles. By increasing the weight ratio of TTF to the precursor of silica nanoparticles (the quantities of the precursors were kept the same), the fluorescence intensity of nanoparticles increased correspondingly, due to the formation of larger AIE dots in the cores of ORMOSIL nanoparticles. The fluorescent and biocompatible nanoprobes were then utilized for in vitro imaging of HeLa cells. Two-photon fluorescence microscopy clearly illustrated that the nanoparticles have the capacity of nucleus permeability, as well as cytoplasm staining towards tumor cells. | 10 | Winter soil CO_2 efflux in two contrasting forest ecosystems on the eastern Tibetan Plateau, China显示文摘Significant CO_2 fluxes from snow-covered soils occur in cold biomes. However, little is known about winter soil respiration on the eastern Tibetan Plateau of China. We therefore measured winter soil CO_2 fluxes and estimated annual soil respiration in two contrasting coniferous forest ecosystems(a Picea asperata plantation and a natural forest).Mean winter soil CO_2 effluxes were 1.08 lmol m^-2s^-1in the plantation and 1.16 lmol m^-2s^-1in the natural forest.These values are higher than most reported winter soil CO_2 efflux values for temperate or boreal forest ecosystems.Winter soil respiration rates were similar for our two forest ecosystems but mean soil CO_2 efflux over the growing season was higher in the natural forest than in the plantation. The estimated winter and annual soil effluxes for the natural forest were 176.3 and 1070.3 g m^-2, respectively, based on the relationship between soil respiration and soil temperature,which were 17.2 and 9.7 % greater than their counterparts in the plantation. The contributions of winter soil respiration to annual soil efflux were 15.4 % for the plantation and 16.5 %for the natural forest and were statistically similar. Our results indicate that winter soil CO_2 efflux from frozen soils in the alpine coniferous forest ecosystems of the eastern Tibetan Plateau was considerable and was an important component of annual soil respiration. | 12 | Universally composable anonymous password authenticated key exchange显示文摘Anonymous password authenticated key exchange(APAKE) is an important cryptographic primitive, through which a client holding a password can establish a session key with a server both authentically and anonymously. Although the server is guaranteed that the client in communication is from a pre-determined group, but the client's actual identity is protected. Because of their convenience, APAKE protocols have been widely studied and applied to the privacy protection research. However, all existing APAKE protocols are handled in stand-alone models and do not adequately settle the problem of protocol composition, which is a practical issue for protocol implementation. In this paper, we overcome this issue by formulating and realizing an ideal functionality for APAKE within the well-known universal composability(UC) framework, which thus guarantees security under the protocol composition operations. Our formulation captures the essential security requirements of APAKE such as off-line dictionary attack resistance, client anonymity and explicit mutual authentication. Moreover, it addresses the arbitrary probabilistic distribution of passwords.
