An Arctic sea ice thickness variability revealed from satellite altimetric measurements显示文摘A modified algorithm taking into account the first year(FY) and multiyear(MY) ice densities is used to derive a sea ice thickness from freeboard measurements acquired by satellite altimetry ICESat(2003–2008). Estimates agree with various independent in situ measurements within 0.21 m. Both the fall and winter campaigns see a dramatic extent retreat of thicker MY ice that survives at least one summer melting season. There were strong seasonal and interannual variabilities with regard to the mean thickness. Seasonal increases of 0.53 m for FY the ice and 0.29 m for the MY ice between the autumn and the winter ICESat campaigns, roughly 4–5 month separation, were found. Interannually, the significant MY ice thickness declines over the consecutive four ICESat winter campaigns(2005–2008) leads to a pronounced thickness drop of 0.8 m in MY sea ice zones. No clear trend was identified from the averaged thickness of thinner, FY ice that emerges in autumn and winter and melts in summer. Uncertainty estimates for our calculated thickness, caused by the standard deviations of multiple input parameters including freeboard, ice density, snow density, snow depth, show large errors more than 0.5 m in thicker MY ice zones and relatively small standard deviations under 0.5 m elsewhere. Moreover, a sensitivity analysis is implemented to determine the separate impact on the thickness estimate in the dependence of an individual input variable as mentioned above. The results show systematic bias of the estimated ice thickness appears to be mainly caused by the variations of freeboard as well as the ice density whereas the snow density and depth brings about relatively insignificant errors.BI Haibo HUANG Haijun SU Qiao YAN Liwen LIU Yanxia XU Xiuli 2014Acta Oceanologica Sinica2014,33,11:8

Effect of Penetration Rates on the Piezocone Penetration Test in the Yellow River Delta Silt显示文摘Partial drainage often occurs during piezocone penetration testing on Yellow River Delta silt because of its intermediate physical and mechanical properties between those of sand and clay.Yet,there is no accurate understanding for the range of penetra-tion rates to trigger the partial drainage of silt soils. In order to fully investigate cone penetration rate effects under partial drainage condi-tions,indoor 1 g penetration model tests and numerical simulations of cavity expansion at variable penetration rates were carried out on the Yellow River Delta silt. The boundary effect of the model tests and the variation of key parameters at the different cavity ex-pansion rates were analyzed. The 1 g penetration model test results and numerical simulations results consistently indicated that the penetration rate to trigger the partially drainage of typical silt varied at least three orders of magnitude. The numerical simulations also provide the reference values for the penetration resistance corresponding to zero dilation and zero viscosity at any given normalized penetration rate for silt in Yellow River Delta. These geotechnical properties can be used for the design of offshore platforms in Yel-low River Delta, and the understanding of cone penetration rate effects under the partially drained conditions would provide some technical support for geohazard evaluation of offshore platforms.ZHANG Jiarui MENG Qingsheng ZHANG Yan FENG Xiuli WEI Guanli SU Xiuting LIU Tao 2022Journal of Ocean University of China2022,21,2:1

Multi-omics analysis of attenuated variant reveals potential evaluation marker of host damaging for SARS-CoV-2 variants显示文摘SARS-CoV-2 continues to threaten human society by generating novel variants via mutation and recombination. The high number of mutations that appeared in emerging variants not only enhanced their immune-escaping ability but also made it difficult to predict the pathogenicity and virulence based on viral nucleotide sequences.Molecular markers for evaluating the pathogenicity of new variants are therefore needed.By comparing host responses to wild-type and variants with attenuated pathogenicity at proteome and metabolome levels, six key molecules on the polyamine biosynthesis pathway including putrescine,SAM,dc-SAM,ODC1,SAMS,and SAMDC were found to be differentially upregulated and associated with pathogenicity of variants. To validate our discovery, human airway organoids were subsequently used which recapitulates SARS-CoV-2 replication in the airway epithelial cells of COVID-19 patients.Using ODC1 as a proof-ofconcept,differential activation of polyamine biosynthesis was found to be modulated by the renin-angiotensin system(RAS)and positively associated with ACE2 activity.Further experiments demonstrated that ODC1 expression could be differentially activated upon a panel of SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern(VOCs)and was found to be correlated with each VOCs’pathogenic properties.Particularly, the presented study revealed the discriminative ability of key molecules on polyamine biosynthesis as a predictive marker for virulence evaluation and assessment of SARS-CoV-2 variants in cell or organoid models. Our work, therefore, presented a practical strategy that could be potentially applied as an evaluation tool for the pathogenicity of current and emerging SARS-CoV-2 variants.Guangshan Xie Lin Zhu Siwen Liu Cun Li Xin Diao Yanhao Zhang Xiuli Su Yuanyuan Song Guodong Cao Li Zhong Pui Wang Xiaojuan Liu Bobo Wing-Yee Mok Shusheng Zhang Dong-Yan Jin Jie Zhou Honglin Chen Zongwei Cai 2024Science China(Life Sciences)2024,67,1:0
Potential factors and mechanism of particulate matters explosive increase induced by free radicals oxidation显示文摘Atmospheric particulate pollution in China has attracted much public attention.Occasionally, the particle number concentration increases sharply in a short time period, which is defined as a 'particulate matter explosive increase'. Heavy particulate matter pollution not only reduces visibility but also has an adverse effect on human health. Hence, there is an urgent need to discover the causes of particulate matter explosive increase.During this campaign, the particle number concentration and free radicals were measured at a tall building on the campus of Lanzhou University of Technology. Additionally, we examined a series of chemicals to reproduce the observed particulate matter explosive increase in a smog chamber to determine its potential factors. Then, we analyzed the mechanism of particulate matter explosive increase in the presence of free radicals. We found that, among the potential inorganic and organic sources analyzed, a mixture of organic and SO_2 in the research region had a major effect on particulate matter explosive increase. Moreover, free radical oxidation has a large effect, especially in the formation of organic particulates.Guoying Wang Shiming Jia Xiuli Niu Haoqi Tian Yanrong Liu Zhong Xie Chao Liu Yucan Dong Ying Su Jianglei Yu Gaofeng Shi Xuefu Chen Lan Li Peng Zhang 2019Journal of Environmental Sciences2019,31,7:0
Analysis on kinematic and inertial interaction in liquefiable soil-pile-structure dynamic system显示文摘The dynamic pile-soil interaction in a liquefied site was investigated by means of numerical simulation and shaking table tests in this study.Based on the results from the shaking table experiment, the cross-correlation analysis of the soil displacement-pile bending moment and superstructure acceleration-pile bending moment was performed to study the influence of kinematic interaction and inertial interaction on the seismic response of piles.A relatively reasonable and accurate finite difference numerical analysis model of liquefiable soil-pile group-superstructure dynamic system was established.Through numerical simulation, the understanding of kinematic interaction and inertial interaction in the shaking table test was verified. The mass, damping and period of the superstructure were selected as variables to carry out parameter analysis to further study the influence of inertial interaction on the pile-structure failure mechanism. The results show that the influence of kinematic interaction on the pile was much greater than that of inertial interaction. The mass of the superstructure was the most important parameter of inertial interaction, and dynamic characteristics of the superstructure also had an effect on inertial interaction. The effect of inertial interaction on the part near the pile tip was more significant, indicating that the failure near the pile tip is closely related to inertial interaction.Xu Chengshun Liu Hao Dou Pengfei Wang Jinting Chen Su Du Xiuli 2023Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Vibration2023,22,3:0
Immunologically effective poly(D-lactic acid) nanoparticle enhances anticancer immune response显示文摘Chiral materials with the same atomic compositions exhibit different chemical, physical, and biological properties because of their distinct spatial structures.Herein,a chiral strategy was proposed to develop poly(lactic acid)(PLA)nanoparticle as an efficient nanoadjuvant to activate adaptive anticancer immunity. Two chiral nanovaccines were prepared by directly mixing amino-terminated PLA(PLLA-NH2 or PDLA-NH2)with the model protein antigen ovalbumin(OVA).After being injected into mice subcutaneously, both nanovaccines efficiently migrated to the lymph nodes to initiate the sequential anticancer immune responses.Compared with the PLLA nanovaccine(PLLA-OVA),the PDLA one(PDLA-OVA)contributed to more robust dendritic cell(DC)maturation, antigen presentation, and T lymphocyte activation. In addition to the activation of cellular immunity,PDLA-OVA also triggered a more vigorous activation of humoral immunity, which induced the production of more anti-OVA immunoglobulin G(IgG)than PLLA-OVA.When used as prophylactic or therapeutic nanovaccine toward murine melanoma models,PDLA-OVA triggered more potent adaptive anticancer immune responses that more effectively inhibited the cancer genesis and progression, indicating the significant potential of immunologically effective PDLA nanoadjuvant in cancer immunotherapy.Weiguo Xu Yuanzhen Su Yang Ma Qi Wei Jiazhen Yang Xiuli Zhuang Jianxun Ding Xuesi Chen 2023Science China Chemistry2023,66,4:0
Extensive sequence divergence between the reference genomes of Taraxacum kok-saghyz and Taraxacum mongolicum显示文摘Plants belonging to the genus Taraxacum are widespread all over the world, which contain rubber-producing and non-rubberproducing species. However, the genomic basis underlying natural rubber(NR)biosynthesis still needs more investigation. Here,we presented high-quality genome assemblies of rubber-producing T.kok-saghyz TK1151 and non-rubber-producing T.mongolicum TM5.Comparative analyses uncovered a large number of genetic variations, including inversions,translocations,presence/absence variations,as well as considerable protein divergences between the two species. Two gene duplication events were found in these two Taraxacum species, including one common ancestral whole-genome triplication and one subsequent round of gene amplification. In genomes of both TK1151 and TM5,we identified the genes encoding for each step in the NR biosynthesis pathway and found that the SRPP and CPT gene families have experienced a more obvious expansion in TK1151 compared to TM5.This study will have large-ranging implications for the mechanism of NR biosynthesis and genetic improvement of NR-producing crops.Tao Lin Xia Xu Huilong Du Xiuli Fan Qingwen Chen Chunyan Hai Zijian Zhou Xiao Su Liquan Kou Qiang Gao Lingwei Deng Jinsheng Jiang Hanli You Yihua Ma Zhukuan Cheng Guodong Wang Chengzhi Liang Guomin Zhang Hong Yu Jiayang Li 2022Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,3:0
