| 1 | EMT-associated microRNAs and their roles in cancer stemness and drug resistance显示文摘Epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition(EMT)is implicated in a wide array of malignant behaviors of cancers,including proliferation,invasion,and metastasis.Most notably,previou studies have indicated that both cancer stem-like properties and drug resistance were associated with EMT.Furthermore,microRNAs(miRNAs)play a pivotal role in the regulation of EMT phenotype,as a result,some miRNAs impact cancer stemness and drug resistance.Therefore,understanding the relationship between EMT-associated miRNAs and cancer stemness/drug resistance is beneficial to both basic research and clinical treatment.In this review,we preliminarily looked into the various roles that the EMT-associated miRNAs play in the stem-like nature of malignant cells.Then,we reviewed the interaction between EMT-associated miRNAs and the drugresistant complex signaling pathways of multiple cancers including lung cancer,gastric cancer,gynecologic cancer,breast cancer,liver cancer,colorectal cancer,pancreatic cancer,esophageal cancer,and nasopharyngeal cancer.We finally discussed the relationship between EMT,cancer stemness,and drug resistance,as well as looked forward to the potential applications of miRNA therapy for malignant tumors. | Guangtao Pan Yuhan Liu Luorui Shang Fangyuan Zhou Shenglan Yang | 2021 | Cancer Communications2021,41,3: | 46 |

It is considered as an attractive alternative non-petroleum-based production route. The direct synthesis of olefins and alcohols as high value-added chemicals from syngas has drawn particular attention due to its process simplicity, low energy consumption and clean utilization of carbon resource, which conforms to the principles of green carbon science. This review describes the recent advances for the direct production of lower olefins and higher alcohols via syngas conversion. Recent progress in the development of new catalyst systems for enhanced catalytic performance is highlighted. | 4 | Adjuvant treatment for triple-negative breast cancer: a retrospective study of immunotherapy with autologous cytokine-induced killer cells in 294 patients显示文摘Objective: To examine the efficacy and safety of a sequential combination of chemotherapy and autologous cytokine-induced killer(CIK) cell treatment in triple-negative breast cancer(TNBC) patients.Methods: A total of 294 post-surgery TNBC patients participated in the research from January 1, 2009 to January 1, 2015. After adjuvant chemotherapy, autologous CIK cells were introduced in 147 cases(CIK group), while adjuvant chemotherapy alone was used to treat the remaining 147 cases(control group). The major endpoints of the investigation were the disease-free survival(DFS) and overall survival(OS). Additionally, the side effects of the treatment were evaluated.Results: In the CIK group, the DFS and OS intervals of the patients were significantly longer than those of the control group(DFS:P = 0.047;OS: P = 0.007). The multivariate analysis demonstrated that the TNM(tumor-node-metastasis) stage and adjuvant CIK treatment were independent prognostic factors for both DFS [hazard ratio(HR)= 0.520, 95% confidence interval(CI):0.271-0.998, P = 0.049;HR = 1.449, 95% CI:1.118-1.877, P = 0.005, respectively] and OS(HR=0.414, 95% CI:0.190-0.903, P = 0.027;HR= 1.581, 95% CI:1.204-2.077, P = 0.001, respectively) in patients with TNBC. Additionally, longer DFS and OS intervals were associated with increased number of CIK treatment cycles(DFS: P = 0.020;OS: P = 0.040). | 5 | Spatial variations in CO2 fluxes in a subtropical coastal reservoir of Southeast China were related to urbanization and land-use types显示文摘Carbon dioxide(CO_(2))emissions from aquatic ecosystems are important components of the global carbon cycle,yet the CO_(2)emissions from coastal reservoirs,especially in developing countries where urbanization and rapid land use change occur,are still poorly understood.In this study,the spatiotemporal variations in CO_(2)concentrations and fluxes were investigated in Wenwusha Reservoir located in the southeast coast of China.Overall,the mean CO_(2)concentration and flux across the whole reservoir were 41.85±2.03μmol/L and 2.87±0.29 mmol/m2/h,respectively,and the reservoir was a consistent net CO_(2)source over the entire year.The land use types and urbanization levels in the reservoir catchment significantly affected the input of exogenous carbon towater.The mean CO_(2)fluxwasmuch higher from waters adjacent to the urban land(5.05±0.87 mmol/m2/hr)than other land use types.Sites with larger input of exogenous substance via sewage discharge and upstream runoff were often the hotspots of CO_(2)emission in the reservoir.Our results suggested that urbanization process,agricultural activities,and large input of exogenous carbon could result in large spatial heterogeneity of CO_(2)emissions and alter the CO_(2)biogeochemical cycling in coastal reservoirs.Further studies should characterize the diurnal variations,microbial mechanisms,and impact of meteorological conditions on reservoir CO_(2)emissions to expand our understanding of the carbon cycle in aquatic ecosystems. | Yifei Zhang Min Lyu Ping Yang Derrick Y.F.Lai Chuan Tong Guanghui Zhao Ling Li Yuhan Zhang Hong Yang | 2021 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2021,33,11: | 4 |
| 6 | Linking a Storm Water Management Model to a Novel Two-Dimensional Model for Urban Pluvial Flood Modeling显示文摘This article describes a new method of urban pluvial flood modeling by coupling the 1D storm water management model(SWMM)and the 2D flood inundation model(ECNU Flood-Urban).The SWMM modeling results(the overflow of the manholes)are used as the input boundary condition of the ECNU Flood-Urban model to simulate the rainfall–runoff processes in an urban environment.The analysis is applied to the central business district of East Nanjing Road in downtown Shanghai,considering 5-,10-,20-,50-,and 100-year return period rainfall scenarios.The results show that node overflow,water depth,and inundation area increase proportionately with the growing return periods.Water depths are mostly predicted to be shallow and surface flows generally occur in the urban road network due to its low-lying nature.The simulation result of the coupled model proves to be reliable and suggests that urban surface water flooding could be accurately simulated by using this methodology.Adaptation measures(upgrading of the urban drainage system)can then be targeted at specific locations with significant overflow and flooding. | Yuhan Yang Leifeng Sun Ruonan Li Jie Yin Dapeng Yu | 2020 | International Journal of Disaster Risk Science2020,11,4: | 3 |
| 7 | Increasing isobutanol yield by double-gene deletion of PDC6 and LPD1 in Saccharomyces cerevisiae显示文摘As a new biofuel, isobutanol has received more attentions in recent years. Because of its high tolerance to higher alcohols, Saccharomyces cerevisiae has potential advantages as a platform microbe to produce isobutanol. In this study, we investigated integration effects of enhancing valine biosynthesis by overexpression of ILV2 and BAT2 with eliminating ethanol formation by deletion of PDC6 and decreasing acetyl-Co A biosynthesis by deletion of LPD1 on isobutanol titers. Our results showed that deletion of LPD1 in strains overexpressing BAT2 and ILV2 increased isobutanol titer by 5.3-fold compared with control strain. Additional deletion of PDC6 in lpd1Δ strains carrying overexpressed BAT2 and ILV2 further increased isobutanol titer by 1.5 fold. Overexpression of BAT2 and ILV2 in lpd1Δ strains and pdc6Δ strains decreased ethanol titers. Glycerol titers of the engineered strains did not have greater changes than that of control strain, while their acetic acid titers were higher, perhaps due to the imbalance of cofactors in isobutanol synthesis. Our researches suggest that double-gene deletion of PDC6 and LPD1 in strains overexpressing BAT2 and ILV2 could increase isobutanol production dramatically than single-gene deletion of PDC6 or LPD1. | 9 | A mathematical modeling study of the HIV epidemics at two rural townships in the Liangshan Prefecture of the Sichuan Province of China显示文摘Background:As a response to a severe HIV epidemic in the Liangshan Prefecture,one of the worst in China,population based HIV interventions,including two population-wide HIV screening,have been carried out since 2005 at two townships in a remote mountainous region of Liangshan.The objective of our mathematical modeling study is to assess the temporal dynamics of the HIV epidemic in the two townships based on the data collected in the study area during the period 2005e2010.Methods:A mathematical model was set up to describe the population dynamics of HIV transmission in study area.The model was calibrated by fitting it to the HIV testing and treatment data from 2005 to 2008.Validation of the model was done by comparing its predicted value of HIV prevalence in 2010 to the prevalence data obtained in the 2010 population wide HIV testing.The validated model was used to produce estimation of HIV incidence,prevalence and death.Results:Our model estimations show that population-based HIV interventions have significantly slowed down the rise of the HIV epidemic in the two townships.Over the five-year period from 2005 to 2010,the year-over-year rate of increase in HIV incidence,prevalence,and death has declined by 91.5%,28.7%,and 52.3%,respectively.Conclusion:Mathematical models,when integrated with epidemiological and surveillance data,can be an effective tool for predicting the temporal dynamics of HIV and assessing the impacts of HIV interventions. | Zhimin Su Caiting Dong Ping Li Hongxia Deng Yuhan Gong Shiyong Zhong Min Wu Yuhua Ruan Guangming Qin Wen Yang Yiming Shao Michael Li | 2016 | Infectious Disease Modelling2016,1,1: | 2 |
| 10 | Verticillium dahliae Secretory Effector PevD1 Induces Leaf Senescence by Promoting ORE1-Mediated Ethylene Biosynthesis显示文摘Leaf senescence,the final stage of leaf development,is influenced by numerous internal and environmental signals.So far,how biotic stresses such as pathogen infection regulate leaf senescence is unclear.Here,we found that the premature leaf senescence caused by a soil-borne vascular fungus Verticillium dahliae in Arabidopsis was impaired by the mutation of a protein elicitor from V.dahliae 1(PevD1).Constitutive or inducible overexpression of PevD1 accelerated Arabidopsis leaf senescence.A senescence-associated NAC transcription factor,ORE1,was targeted by PevD1.PevD1 interacted with and stabilized ORE1 protein by disrupting its interaction with the RING-type ubiquitin E3 ligase NLA.Mutation of ORE1 suppressed the premature senescence caused by overexpressing PevD1.Overexpression of ORE1 or PevD1 led to enhanced ethylene production,and ORE1 mediated PevD1-induced ethylene biosynthesis by directly binding to the ACS6 promoter.Loss-of-function of ACSs suppressed V.dahliae-induced leaf senescence in ORE1-overexpressing plants.Interestingly,PevD1 also interacted with Gossypium hirsutum ORE1(GhORE1),and virus-induced gene silencing of GhORE1 delayed V.dahliae-triggered leaf senescence in cotton,indicative of the existence of a conserved mechanism in plants.Altogether,our study demonstrates that V.dahliae induces leaf senescence by secreting the effector PevD1 to regulate the ORE1-ACS6 cascade,providing new insight into biotic stress-induced senescence in plants. | Yi Zhang Yuhan Gao Hou-Ling Wang Chengcheng Kan Ze Li Xiufen Yang Weilun Yin Xinli Xia Hong Gil Nam Zhonghai Li Hongwei Guo | 2021 | Molecular Plant2021,14,11: | 2 |

The results show that with the addition of Al2O3 and Y2O3, the glass network structure is strengthened and the precipitation of crystals is inhibited for heat-treated fibers. Compared with Y2O3 doped fibers, Al2O3 presents more significant effects on the enhancement of silica network and the inhibition of crystallization in fibers. | 17 | Organelle-inspired supramolecular nanomedicine to precisely abolish liver tumor growth and metastasis显示文摘Organelles are responsible for the efficient storage and transport of substances in living systems.A myriad of extracellular vesicles(EVs)acts as a bridge to exchange signaling molecules in cell-cell communication,and the highly dynamic tubulins and actins contribute to efficient intracellular substance transport.The inexhaustible cues of natural cargo delivery by organelles inspire researchers to explore the construction of biomimetic architectures for“smart”delivery carriers.Herein,we report a 10-hydroxycamptothecin(HCPT)-peptide conjugate HpYss that simulates the artificial EV-to-filament transformation process for precise liver cancer therapy.Under the sequential stimulus of extracellular alkaline phosphatase(ALP)and intracellular glutathione(GSH),HpYss proceeds via tandem self-assembly with a morphological transformation from nanoparticles to nanofibers.The experimental phase diagram elucidates the influence of ALP and GSH contents on the self-assembled nanostructures.In addition,the dynamic transformation of organelle-mimetic architectures that are formed by HpYss in HepG2 cells enables the efficient delivery of the anticancer drug HCPT to the nucleus,and the size-shape change from extracellular nanoparticles(50-100 nm)to intracellular nanofibers(4-9 nm)is verified to be of key importance for nuclear delivery.Nuclear targeting of HpYss amplifies apoptosis,thus significantly enhancing the inhibitory effect of HCPT(>10-fold)to HepG2 cells.Benefitting from the spatiotemporally controlled nanostructures,HpYss exhibited deep penetration,enhanced accumulation,and long-term retention in multicellular spheroid and xenograft models,potently abolishing liver tumor growth and preventing lung metastasis.We envision that our organelle-mimicking delivery strategy provides a novel paradigm for designing nanomedicine to cancer therapy. | Jie Zhan Yuhan Wang Shaodan Ma Qin Qin Ling Wang Yanbin Cai Zhimou Yang | 2022 | Bioactive Materials2022,7,3: | 1 |
