| 2 | Alpha-fetoprotein before and after pegylated interferon therapy for predicting hepatocellular carcinoma development显示文摘AIM: To investigate factors that accurately predict hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC) development after antiviral therapy in chronic hepatitis C(CHC) patients. METHODS: CHC patients who received pegylated interferon and ribavirin were enrolled in this cohort study that investigated the ability of alpha-fetoprotein(AFP) to predict HCC development after interferon(IFN) therapy. RESULTS: Of 1255 patients enrolled, 665 developed sustained virological response(SVR) during mean follow-up period of 5.4 years. HCC was occurred in 89 patients, and 20 SVR patients were included. Proportional hazard models showed that HCC occurred in SVR patients showing AFP ≥ 5 ng/m L before therapy and in non-SVR patients showing AFP ≥ 5 ng/m L before and 1 year after therapy besides older age, and low platelet counts. SVR patients showing AFP ≥ 5 ng/m L before therapy and no decrease in AFP to < 5 ng/m L 1 year after therapy had significantly higher HCC incidence than non-SVR patients showing AFP ≥ 5 ng/m L before therapy and decreased AFP(P = 0.043). AFP ≥ 5 ng/m L before therapy was significantly associated with low platelet counts and high values of alanine aminotransferase(ALT) in stepwise logistic regression analysis. | 3 | Development and application of traffic accident density estimation models using kernel density estimation显示文摘Traffic accident frequency has been decreasing in Japan in recent years.Nevertheless,many accidents still occur on residential roads.Area-wide traffic calming measures including Zone 30,which discourages traffic by setting a speed limit of 30 km/h in residential areas,have been implemented.However,no objective implementation method has been established.Development of a model for traffic accident density estimation explained by GIS data can enable the determination of dangerous areas objectively and easily,indicating where area-wide traffic calming can be implemented preferentially.This study examined the relations between traffic accidents and city characteristics,such as population,road factors,and spatial factors.A model was developed to estimate traffic accident density.Kernel density estimation(KDE) techniques were used to assess the relations efficiently.Besides,16 models were developed by combining accident locations,accident types,and data types.By using them,the applicability of traffic accident density estimation models was examined.Results obtained using Spearman rank correlation show high coefficients between the predicted number and the actual number.The model can indicate the relative accident risk in cities.Results of this study can be used for objective determination of areas where area-wide traffic calming can be implemented preferentially,even if sufficient traffic accident data are not available. | Seiji Hashimoto Syuji Yoshiki Ryoko Saeki Yasuhiro Mimura Ryosuke Ando Shutaro Nanba | 2016 | Journal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering(English Edition)2016，3，3： | 3 |

| 8 | Selection of Suitable Maximum-heart-rate Formulas for Use with Karvonen Formula to Calculate Exercise Intensity显示文摘The Karvonen formula, which is widely used to estimate exercise intensity, contains maximum heart rate, H Rmax, as a variable. This study employed pedaling experiments to assess which of the proposed formulas for calculating H Rmaxwas the most suitable for use with the Karvonen formula. First, two kinds of experiments involving an ergometer were performed: an all-in-one-day experiment that tested eight pedaling loads in one day, and a one-load-per-day experiment that tested one load per day for eight days.A comparison of the data on 7 subjects showed that the all-in-one-day type of experiment was better for assessing H Rmaxformulas,at least for the load levels tested in our experiments. A statistical analysis of the experimental data on 47 subjects showed two of the H Rmaxformulas to be suitable for use in the Karvonen formula to estimate exercise intensity for males in their 20 s. | 13 | Comparison of luminescent properties of helicene-like bibenzothiophenes with o-carborane and 5,6-dicarba-nidodecaborane显示文摘This article describes comparison of the anchoring effect on electronic properties of the helicene-like bibenzothiophene between o-carborane and 5,6-dicarba-nido-decaborane. The o-carborane and nido-decaborane-fused bibenzothiophenes were simultaneously obtained in the same reaction and successfully isolated. Initially, the X-ray single crystal analysis revealed that the helicene-like distorted structure was realized in the nido-decaborane-fused bibenzothiophene. From optical measurements in the solution state, distinct different characteristics depending on the type of anchors were observed. It was summarized that the absorption and luminescent properties originated from weak π-conjugation at the bibenzothiophene moiety in the o-carboranefused compound were obtained, whereas robust π-conjugation and significant emission from the intramolecular charge transfer state were detected from the nido-decaborane-fused compound. These data can be explained by the theoretical results that π-conjugation was restrictedly developed within the bibenzothiophene moiety in frontier orbitals of the o-carborane-fused compound. In contrast, π-conjugation can be constructed even through the distorted bibenzothiophene because of the nido-decaborane unit. Moreover, the intramolecular charge transfer state should be realized because of electronic interaction involving the nido-decaborane unit in the excited state. Furthermore, it was demonstrated that the nido-decaborane-fused compound possessed solid-state emission and mechanochromic luminescent properties.
