| 1 | Developing plate tectonics theory from oceanic subduction zones to collisional orogens显示文摘Crustal subduction and continental collision is the core of plate tectonics theory. Understanding the formation and evolution of continental collision orogens is a key to develop the theory of plate tectonics. Different types of subduction zones have been categorized based on the nature of subducted crust. Two types of collisional orogens, i.e. arc-continent and continent-continent collisional orogens, have been recognized based on the nature of collisional blocks and the composition of derivative rocks. Arc-continent collisional orogens contain both ancient and juvenile crustal rocks, and reworking of those rocks at the post-collisional stage generates magmatic rocks with different geochemical compositions. If an orogen is built by collision between two relatively old continental blocks, post-collisional magmatic rocks are only derived from reworking of the old crustal rocks. Collisional orogens undergo reactivation and reworking at action of lithosphere extension, with inheritance not only in the tectonic regime but also in the geochemical compositions of reworked products(i.e., magmatic rocks). In order to unravel basic principles for the evolution of continental tectonics at the post-collisional stages, it is necessary to investigate the reworking of orogenic belts in the post-collisional regime, to recognize physicochemical differences in deep continental collision zones, and to understand petrogenetic links between the nature of subducted crust and post-collisional magmatic rocks. | 2 | Continental subduction channel processes: Plate interface interaction during continental collision显示文摘The study of subduction-zone processes is a key to development of the plate tectonic theory.Plate interface interaction is a basic mechanism for the mass and energy exchange between Earth’s surface and interior.By developing the subduction channel model into continental collision orogens,insights are provided into tectonic processes during continental subduction and its products.The continental crust,composed of felsic to mafic rocks,is detached at different depths from subducting continental lithosphere and then migrates into continental subduction channel.Part of the subcontinental lithospheric mantle wedge,composed of peridotite,is offscrapped from its bottom.The crustal and mantle fragments of different sizes are transported downwards and upwards inside subduction channels by the corner flow,resulting in varying extents of metamorphism,with heterogeneous deformation and local anatexis.All these metamorphic rocks can be viewed as tectonic melanges due to mechanical mixing of crust-and mantle-derived rocks in the subduction channels,resulting in different types of metamorphic rocks now exposed in the same orogens.The crust-mantle interaction in the continental subduction channel is realized by reaction of the overlying ancient subcontinental lithospheric mantle wedge peridotite with aqueous fluid and hydrous melt derived from partial melting of subducted continental basement granite and cover sediment.The nature of premetamorphic protoliths dictates the type of collisional orogens,the size of ultrahigh-pressure metamorphic terranes and the duration of ultrahigh-pressure metamorphism. | ZHENG YongFei ZHAO ZiFu CHEN YiXiang | 2013 | Chinese Science Bulletin2013,58,35: | 54 |
| 3 | The transport of water in subduction zones显示文摘The transport of water from subducting crust into the mantle is mainly dictated by the stability of hydrous minerals in subduction zones. The thermal structure of subduction zones is a key to dehydration of the subducting crust at different depths. Oceanic subduction zones show a large variation in the geotherm, but seismicity and arc volcanism are only prominent in cold subduction zones where geothermal gradients are low. In contrast, continental subduction zones have low geothermal gradients, resulting in metamorphism in cold subduction zones and the absence of arc volcanism during subduction. In very cold subduction zone where the geothermal gradient is very low(?5?C/km), lawsonite may carry water into great depths of ?300 km. In the hot subduction zone where the geothermal gradient is high(>25?C/km), the subducting crust dehydrates significantly at shallow depths and may partially melt at depths of <80 km to form felsic melts, into which water is highly dissolved. In this case, only a minor amount of water can be transported into great depths. A number of intermediate modes are present between these two end-member dehydration modes, making subduction-zone dehydration various. Low-T/low-P hydrous minerals are not stable in warm subduction zones with increasing subduction depths and thus break down at forearc depths of ?60–80 km to release large amounts of water. In contrast, the low-T/low-P hydrous minerals are replaced by low-T/high-P hydrous minerals in cold subduction zones with increasing subduction depths, allowing the water to be transported to subarc depths of 80–160 km. In either case, dehydration reactions not only trigger seismicity in the subducting crust but also cause hydration of the mantle wedge. Nevertheless, there are still minor amounts of water to be transported by ultrahigh-pressure hydrous minerals and nominally anhydrous minerals into the deeper mantle. The mantle wedge overlying the subducting slab does not partially melt upon water influx for volcanic arc magmatism, but it is hydrated at first with the lowest temperature at the slab-mantle interface, several hundreds of degree lower than the wet solidus of hydrated peridotites. The hydrated peridotites may undergo partial melting upon heating at a later time. | 4 | Hydrothermal ore deposits in collisional orogens显示文摘Hydrothermal ore deposits at convergent plate boundaries represent extraordinary metal enrichment in the continental crust. They are generally associated with felsic magmatism in extensional settings at high thermal gradients. Although their formation is common during accretionary orogeny, more and more ore deposits have been discovered recently in the collisional orogens of China. Because collisional orogeny was operated in a compressional regime at low thermal gradients, it is not favorable for mobilization of ore-forming elements and thus for the production of hydrothermal ore deposits. Nevertheless, continental collision is generally preceded by oceanic subduction, which enables the preliminary enrichment of ore-forming elements in the mantle wedge due to chemical metasomatism by subducting slab-derived fluids. This gave rise to metal pre-enriched domains in the overriding lithosphere, which may be reactivated by extensional tectonism for hydrothermal mineralization either immediately during accretionary orogeny or at a later time during and after collisional orogeny. It is these tectonic processes that have resulted in the progressive enrichment of ore-forming elements through the geochemical differentiation of the subducting oceanic crust, the metasomatic mantle domains and the mafic juvenile crust, respectively, at different depths. | 7 | Tectonic evolution of convergent plate margins and its geological effects显示文摘Oceanic lithosphere is generated at divergent plate boundaries and disappears at convergent plate boundaries.Seafloor spreading and plate subduction together constitute the physical coupling and mass conservation relationships to the movement of lithospheres on Earth.Subduction zones are a key site for the transfer of both matter and energy at converging plate boundaries,and their study has been the hot spot and frontier of Earth system science since the development of plate tectonics theory.As far as the dynamic regime and geothermal gradient of convergent plate margins are concerned,they have different properties in different stages of the subduction zone evolution.In general,the early low-angle subduction leads to compressional tectonism dominated by low geothermal gradients at the plate interface,and the late high-angle subduction results in extensional tectonism dominated by high geothermal gradients at the plate interface and its hanging wall.Active rifts are produced along suture zones through not only slab rollback or slab breakoff in the terminal stage of oceanic subduction but also foundering and thinning of the lithosphere in the post-subduction stage.Due to the differences and changes in the geometric and thermobaric structures of convergent plate margins,a series of changes in the type of metamorphism and magmatism can occur in active and fossil subduction zones.Dehydration and melting of the subducting oceanic crust are prominent at subarc depths,giving rise to fluids that dissolve different concentrations of fluid-mobile incompatible elements.The subduction zone fluids at subarc depths would chemically react with the overlying mantle wedge peridotite,generating metasomatites as the mantle sources of mafic magmas in oceanic and continental arcs.However,these metasomatites did not partially melt immediately upon the fluid metasomatism to trigger arc magmatism,and they did not melt until they were heated by asthenospheric convection due to rollback of the subducting slab.Therefore,recognition of the changes in the dynamic regime and geothermal gradient of subduction zones in different stages of plate convergence not only provides insights into geodynamic mechanisms of the tectonic evolution from subduction zones to orogenic belts,but also places constraints on the formation and evolution of different types of metamorphic and magmatic rocks within the advanced framework of plate tectonics. | Yongfei ZHENG Yixiang CHEN Renxu CHEN Liqun DAI | 2022 | Science China Earth Sciences2022,65,7: | 6 |

| 10 | Analysis of characteristics and predictive factors of immune checkpoint inhibitor-related adverse events显示文摘Objective:We aimed to retrospectively analyze the toxicity profiles and predictors of immune-related adverse events(irAEs)as well as the correlation between irAEs and the clinical efficacy of multi-type immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs)in patients with advanced pan-cancer in a real-world setting.Methods:We retrospectively analyzed data from 105 patients with advanced pan-cancer treated with multi-type ICIs at the First Hospital of Jilin University between January 1,2016 and August 1,2020.We used logistic regression analyses to investigate the associations of irAEs with clinical baseline characteristics,blood count parameters,and biochemical indicators during treatment.Receiver operating characteristic curves were used to determine cutoff values for parameters and area under the curve values.Kaplan–Meier and Cox multivariate regression analyses were performed to estimate the relationships of baseline characteristics and irAEs with progression-free survival(PFS)and overall survival(OS).Results:A lower relative lymphocyte count(cutoff=28.5%),higher albumin level(cutoff=39.05 g/L),and higher absolute eosinophil count(AEC)(cutoff=0.175×10^(9)/L)were significantly associated with the occurrence of irAEs,among which a higher AEC(cutoff=0.205×10^(9)/L)was strongly associated with skin-related irAEs[odds ratios(ORs)=0.163,P=0.004].Moreover,a higher lactate dehydrogenase level(cutoff=237.5 U/L)was an independent predictor of irAEs of grade≥3(OR=0.083,P=0.023).In immune cell subgroup analysis,a lower absolute count of CD8+CD28−suppressor T cells(OR=0.806;95%confidence interval:0.643–1.011;P=0.062),which are regulatory T lymphocytes,was associated with the occurrence of irAEs,although the difference was not statistically significant.Furthermore,a higher percentage of CD19+B cells was associated with the occurrence of irAEs of grade≥3(P=0.02)and grade≥2(P=0.051).In addition,patients with any grade of irAE had a significantly high PFS(8.37 vs.3.77 months,hazard ratios(HR)=2.02,P=0.0038)and OS(24.77 vs.13.83 months,HR=1.84;P=0.024).Conclusions:This retrospective study reports clinical profile data for irAEs in unselected patients in a real-world setting and explored some parameters that may be potential predictive markers of the occurrence,type,or grade of irAEs in clinical practice.Evidence of a correlation between safety and efficacy may facilitate a complete assessment of the risk-benefit ratio for patients treated with ICIs. | Rilan Bai Naifei Chen Xiao Chen Lingyu Li Wei Song Wei Li Yuguang Zhao Yongfei Zhang Fujun Han Zheng Lyu Jiuwei Cui | 2021 | Cancer Biology & Medicine2021,18,4: | 4 |
| 11 | Profiling and bioinformatics analysis of differentially expressed circular RNAs in human intervertebral disc degeneration显示文摘The functional changes of nucleus pulposus (NP) cells are considered to be the initiating factors of intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD), and the differentially expressed circRNAs in NP cells may play an important role in the process of IDD. To identify circular RNAs (circRNAs) associated with human IDD, we isolated the NP cells from human degenerated and non-degenerated intervertebral disc and identified NP cells by microscopy and cell proliferation. CircRNA microarray expression profiles were obtained from NP cells of degenerated and non-degenerated intervertebral disc and further validated by quantitative reverse transcription PCR (qRTPCR). The expression data were analyzed by bioinformatics. Microarray analysis identified 7294 circRNAs differentially expressed in degenerated human IDD NP cells. Among them, 3724 circRNAs were up-regulated and 3570 circRNAs were down-regulated by more than 2 folds. After validating by qRT-PCR, we predicted the possible miRNAs of the top dysregulated circRNAs using TargetScan, and miRanda. Furthermore, Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analysis showed that the most modulated circRNAs regulate the viability, degradation, apoptosis and oxidative stress in NP cells, and the possible mechanism underlying IDD was discussed. | 12 | Seasonal and Interannual Variability of Bering Strait Throughflow from AO-FVCOM and Observation显示文摘A high-resolution Arctic Ocean-Finite Volume Community Ocean Model(AO-FVCOM) and observational current data from 14 mooring stations in Bering Strait and surrounding regions between 1990 and 2015 were used to study the seasonal and interannual variability of Bering Strait throughflow(BST). AO-FVCOM represented the BST with a climatological northward flux of 1.06 Sv, which was close to the observational mean of 0.94 ± 0.26 Sv. From the model results, the strongest volume flux was in summer, approximately 45% larger than that in winter. Interannual variability of BST was also indicated in the model results, and the maximum and minimum annual mean transports are in 2007 and 2012, respectively. AO-FVCOM showed larger differences from the observations in 2000, 2002, and 2015 than in other years, which may be related to the limitation of atmospheric forcing for the model. | 14 | Robust superamphiphobic coatings with gradient and hierarchical architecture and excellent anti-flashover performances显示文摘Biomimetic superhydrophobic(SH)coatings have emerged as a promising alternative to traditional room temperature vulcanizing(RTV)silicone rubber coatings for improving the flashover strength of insulators.However,organic contamination occurs in outdoor applications and thus a superamphiphobic(SAP)surface is more desirable but not yet reported for improving flashover performance.Herein,we developed a novel anti-flashover technique by fabricating robust SAP coating with unique gradient and micro-nanoscale hierarchical architecture.The SAP coating was fabricated by sequentially spray-depositing a resin-based primer and a silica-based topcoat on substrates(i.e.,glass slides and insulators).The primer not only functions as an adhesive offering strong adhesion to the substrate but also offers a micromastoid-like structure facilitating the subsequent formation of hierarchical micro-nanostructure.The appropriate spraying pressure leads to a diffusion of the fluorocarbon-modified silica nanoparticles into the primer to form a unique gradient structure,by analogy to inserting bullets into a wood.These features render the SAP coating excellent robustness with strong abrasive resistance,excellent ultraviolet(UV)resistance,and excellent chemical and thermal stability.Pollution flashover property of the SAP coating was explored and compared with that of SH and RTV specimens,from which a novel organic-contamination model to evaluate the flashover performance was proposed.The coated SAP glass insulator demonstrated 42.9%pollution flashover voltage improvement than RTV-coated insulator.These stated unique features reveal the convincing potential of the present SAP coatings to be applied for not only outdoor transmission line insulators for antiflashover but also other fields for self-cleaning,anti-fouling,and anti-icing. | Yi Xie Wei Xiong Shefiu Kareem Chuxiong Qiu Yongfei Hu Ivan PParkin Shengwu Wang Huayun Wang Junwu Chen Lee Li Zhi Chen Huajun Sun Xiujian Zhao | 2022 | Nano Research2022,15,8: | 2 |

| 16 | Two Ultraviolet Radiation Datasets that Cover China显示文摘Ultraviolet(UV) radiation has significant effects on ecosystems, environments, and human health, as well as atmospheric processes and climate change. Two ultraviolet radiation datasets are described in this paper. One contains hourly observations of UV radiation measured at 40 Chinese Ecosystem Research Network stations from 2005 to 2015. CUV3 broadband radiometers were used to observe the UV radiation, with an accuracy of 5%, which meets the World Meteorology Organization's measurement standards. The extremum method was used to control the quality of the measured datasets. The other dataset contains daily cumulative UV radiation estimates that were calculated using an all-sky estimation model combined with a hybrid model. The reconstructed daily UV radiation data span from 1961 to 2014. The mean absolute bias error and root-mean-square error are smaller than 30% at most stations, and most of the mean bias error values are negative, which indicates underestimation of the UV radiation intensity. These datasets can improve our basic knowledge of the spatial and temporal variations in UV radiation. | 19 | Metamorphic evolution of the East Tethys tectonic domain and its tectonic implications显示文摘The China Central Orogenic System(CCOS),extending in an east-west direction in the middle part of China,is composed of the Early Paleozoic Altyn-North Qilian-North Qaidam-East Kunlun-North Qinling-North Tongbai orogens in the west and the Late Paleozoic to Early Mesozoic South Tongbai-Hong'an-Dabie-Sulu orogens in the east.They were produced by oceanic subduction and continental subduction/collision during the closure of the Proto-Tethys and the Paleo-Tethys oceans,respectively.Different types of metamorphic rocks with various ages are extensively exposed in these orogens,and they were produced at different geothermal gradients in different stages during the tectonic evolution of convergent continental margins,making them ideal targets to reconstruct the spatiotemporal evolution of the Eastern Tethys tectonic domain.In this article,an integrated study of metamorphic temperature(T)-pressure(P)-time(t)records is presented for metamorphic rocks along the CCOS,aiming to ascertain the change of metamorphic T/P ratios in both time and space,and then shed light on the tectonic evolution of the East Tethys tectonic domain in association with the thermal state change of convergent continental margins.The results indicate that despite the difference in metamorphic ages,metamorphic rocks in different orogens show a common trend with clockwise P-T-t paths.With respect to plate convergence for subduction and collision,regional metamorphism is categorized into three stages:(1)an early convergent stage,corresponding to low T/P Alpine-type blueschist-to eclogite-facies high-P to ultrahigh-P metamorphism;(2)a later convergent stage,corresponding to the medium T/P Barrovian-type medium-P amphibolite to high-P granulite-facies metamorphism;and(3)a post-convergent stage,corresponding to the high T/P Buchan-type lowP amphibolite to MP granulite-facies metamorphism.Nonetheless,a few metamorphic rocks only record a two-sage metamorphic evolution,with an early Barrovian-type high-P granulite-facies metamorphism and a late Buchan-type low-P granulitefacies metamorphic overprinting.In modern convergent plate margins,Alpine-type metamorphism mainly occurs in the stages of oceanic subduction and continental collision,Barrovian-type metamorphism takes pace in both stages of crustal thickening during continental hard collision and slab exhumation when continental subduction zones have evolved from compressional to extensional regimes,and Buchan-type metamorphism occurs in intracontinental rifting stage after the plate convergence.Therefore,the tectonic evolution of convergent continental margins can be reconstructed by combining metamorphic T/P ratios with their corresponding metamorphic facies series and metamorphic timing of metamorphic rocks.Based on the reported metamorphic rocks of different types and ages along the CCOS,it appears that the continental subduction/collision occurred at 500–490 Ma in the Altyn-North Qinling-North Tongbai orogens but 450–430 Ma in the North Qaidam-East Kunlun orogens,and the intracontinental rifting occurred at 460–450 Ma in the Altyn-North Qinling-North Tongbai orogens but 410–400 Ma in the North Qaidam-East Kunlun orogens,respectively,in the western Proto-Tethys domain.For the eastern Paleo-Tethys domain,in contrast,the continental subduction/collision occurred at 250–220 Ma and post-collisional intracontinental rifting occurred at 140–120 Ma.Furthermore,metamorphic evolution from low T/P ratios in the subduction/collision stage to high T/P ratios in the intracontinental rifting stage needs 40–60 Myr in the Proto-Tethys domain but about 110 Myr in the Paleo-Tethys domain.For the two different orogenic domains,therefore,the convergent continental margins underwent a common tectonic evolution from warm collision/cold subduction to hot rifting,which starts from continental subduction/collision characterized by the formation of medium-P amphibolite to high-P granulite facies series or high-P to ultrahigh-P eclogite facies series in compressional regimes,through exhumation of the deeply subducted crustal rocks,and terminates with intracontinental rifting featured by highT to ultrahigh-T granulite facies series in extensional regimes. | Qiangqiang ZHANG Xiaoying GAO Renxu CHEN Yongfei ZHENG | 2023 | Science China Earth Sciences2023,66,12: | 1 |
