| 1 | Conceptualizing and Measuring Economic Resilience of Resource-based Cities: Case Study of Northeast China显示文摘This paper develops a conceptual model and an indicator system for measuring economic resilience of resource-based cities based on the theory of evolutionary resilience and the related concepts of persistence, adaptation, and transformation. Nineteen resource-based cities in Northeast China were analyzed using the indicator system. The results showed that Liaoning and Jilin provinces had higher economic resilience than Heilongjiang Province. Panjin, Benxi, and Anshan in Liaoning Province were the top three cities, while Shuangyashan and other coal-based cities in Heilongjiang Province ranked last. Metals-and petroleum-based cities had significantly higher resilience than coal-based cities. The differences in persistence, adaptability, transformation, and resilience among resource-based cities decreased since the introduction of the Northeast Revitalization Strategy in 2003. Forestry-based cities improved the most in terms of resilience, followed by metals-based and multiple-resource cities; however, resilience dropped for coal-based cities, and petroleum-based cities falling the most. | 2 | Improvement of snow depth retrieval for FY3B-MWRI in China显示文摘The primary objective of this work is to develop an operational snow depth retrieval algorithm for the FengYun3B Microwave Radiation Imager(FY3B-MWRI)in China.Based on 7-year(2002–2009)observations of brightness temperature by the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer-EOS(AMSR-E)and snow depth from Chinese meteorological stations,we develop a semi-empirical snow depth retrieval algorithm.When its land cover fraction is larger than 85%,we regard a pixel as pure at the satellite passive microwave remote-sensing scale.A 1-km resolution land use/land cover(LULC)map from the Data Center for Resources and Environmental Sciences,Chinese Academy of Sciences,is used to determine fractions of four main land cover types(grass,farmland,bare soil,and forest).Land cover sensitivity snow depth retrieval algorithms are initially developed using AMSR-E brightness temperature data.Each grid-cell snow depth was estimated as the sum of snow depths from each land cover algorithm weighted by percentages of land cover types within each grid cell.Through evaluation of this algorithm using station measurements from 2006,the root mean square error(RMSE)of snow depth retrieval is about 5.6 cm.In forest regions,snow depth is underestimated relative to ground observation,because stem volume and canopy closure are ignored in current algorithms.In addition,comparison between snow cover derived from AMSR-E and FY3B-MWRI with Moderate-resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS)snow cover products(MYD10C1)in January 2010 showed that algorithm accuracy in snow cover monitoring can reach 84%.Finally,we compared snow water equivalence(SWE)derived using FY3B-MWRI with AMSR-E SWE products in the Northern Hemisphere.The results show that AMSR-E overestimated SWE in China,which agrees with other validations. | JIANG LingMei WANG Pei ZHANG LiXin YANG Hu YANG JunTao | 2014 | Science China Earth Sciences2014,57,6: | 22 |
| 3 | Soil pH determines fungal diversity along an elevation gradient in Southwestern China显示文摘Fungi play important roles in ecosystem processes, and the elevational pattern of fungal diversity is still unclear. Here, we examined the diversity of fungi along a 1,000 m elevation gradient on Mount Nadu, Southwestern China. We used MiSeq sequencing to obtain fungal sequences that were clustered into operational taxonomic units(OTUs) and to measure the fungal composition and diversity. Though the species richness and phylogenetic diversity of the fungal community did not exhibit significant trends with increasing altitude, they were significantly lower at mid-altitudinal sites than at the base. The Bray-Curtis distance clustering also showed that the fungal communities varied significantly with altitude. A distance-based linear model multivariate analysis(DistLM) identified that soil pH dominated the explanatory power of the species richness(23.72%),phylogenetic diversity(24.25%) and beta diversity(28.10%) of the fungal community. Moreover, the species richness and phylogenetic diversity of the fungal community increased linearly with increasing soil pH(P<0.05). | 5 | Analysis of genetic architecture and favorable allele usage of agronomic traits in a large collection of Chinese rice accessions显示文摘Genotyping and phenotyping large natural populations provide opportunities for population genomic analysis and genome-wide association studies(GWAS). Several rice populations have been re-sequenced in the past decade;however, many major Chinese rice cultivars were not included in these studies. Here, we report large-scale genomic and phenotypic datasets for a collection mainly comprised of 1,275 rice accessions of widely planted cultivars and parental hybrid rice lines from China. The population was divided into three indica/Xian and three japonica/Geng phylogenetic subgroups that correlate strongly with their geographic or breeding origins. We acquired a total of 146 phenotypic datasets for 29 agronomic traits under multi-environments for different subpopulations. With GWAS, we identified a total of 143 significant association loci, including three newly identified candidate genes or alleles that control heading date or amylose content. Our genotypic analysis of agronomically important genes in the population revealed that many favorable alleles are underused in elite accessions, suggesting they may be used to provide improvements in future breeding efforts. | 6 | Late Paleozoic reefs and their significance for tectonics and oil-gas exploration in the Hinggan-Inner Mongolia area显示文摘Many reefs of the Late Paleozoic have been discovered recently in the Hinggan-Inner Mongolia area.These reefs clearly are geographically extensive,and possess distinctive features and well-developed reef-facies.They have been found to contain five reef-building communities and were constructed in four periods.Colonial coral-algal reefs at Aohan and Chifeng represent a warm shallow-sea in the Carboniferous.Different reefs in the Xiwu Banner were formed in three periods:early Late Carboniferous,late Late Carboniferous and Early Permian.These reefs were built in warm sea conditions.Their buildup types include colonial coral frameworks,algae-buildings and lime-mud mounds.Bryozoan reefs in the Zhalaite and Dongwu banners were built in the late Middle Permian and thrived in a cold shallow-sea.All reefs grew independently on two kinds of sedimentary platforms,carbonate and carbonate-clastic mixed platforms.Four reef-forming periods occurred later from south to north,along a collisional course between the North China Plate and the Siberian Plate.These reefs can be arranged into three 'reef-links' or reef zones that extend along plate margins.Among these,the Aohan-Chifeng reef-link indicates a northern margin of the North China Plate,the Zhalaite-Dongwu reef-link marks a southern margin of the Siberian Plate,and the Xiwu-Beishan reef-link reflects the former existence of some inter-plates.The strata of each reef-facies are thick and contain rich asphalt deposits.Overlapping and heteropic layers are very thick and contain dark oil/gas-rich horizons;TOC analyses verify that most of these are good hydrocarbon source rocks.This study shows that the study area is an excellent candidate for oil-gas exploration. | TIAN ShuGang ZHANG YongSheng WANG JunTao NIU ShaoWu | 2011 | Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,2: | 8 |
| 7 | Immunopotentiator Thymosin Alpha-1 Promotes Neurogenesis and Cognition in the Developing Mouse via a Systemic Th1 Bias显示文摘In early life, the immune system plays an essential role in brain development. In our study, the immunopotentiator thymosin alpha-1(Ta1) was peripherally administered to neonatal mice to explore whether the peripheral immunopotentiator affects neurodevelopment and cognition, and to further investigate the relevant mechanism. Compared with the control group, the Ta1 mice displayed better cognitive abilities in early life. The numbers of 5-bromodeoxyuridine(Brd U)+, nestin+,T-box transcription factor 2(Tbr2)+, Brd U+/doublecortin(DCX)+, Brd U+/ionized calcium-binding adaptor molecule 1(Iba1)+, and Brd U+/neuronal nuclei(Neu N)+ cells in the hippocampus were increased in the Ta1 group,accompanied by increased interleukin-4(IL-4), interferon-gamma, brain-derived neurotrophic factor, nerve growth factor, and insulin-like growth factor-1 as well as decreased IL-6 and tumor necrosis factor-a. Furthermore, the Ta1-group showed a Th1-polarized immune response, and the neurotrophic factors were positively associated with the Th1/Th2 ratio. More importantly, administration of Ta1 blocked lipopolysaccharide-induced impairment of hippocampal neurogenesis in early life. | 9 | Using in situ REE analysis to study the origin and diagenesis of dolomite of Lower Paleozoic,Tarim Basin显示文摘In situ REE concentrations of various dolomites from Tarim Basin were obtained by LA-ICP-MS analysis,and the data were normalized to standard seawater(Seawater Normalized=SWN).Most of the samples have a ΣREE range of less than 20 ppm.All samples show similar REESWN distributions with heavy REE depletion,and positive Ce anomaly,which indicates that they have the same dolomitization fluids(seawater).According to the origin and diagenetic process of dolomite,two types of dolomite are determined and described as follows:1) syndepositional dolomite,with the highest REE concentrations(more than 20 ppm),the cores of which are more enriched in REE compared with their cortexes,indicating that they underwent the dolomitization of calcareous sediments by hypersaline and subsequent diagenesis decreased the REE content of the cortex because of the low REE concentration of the diagenetic fluids;2) diagenetic dolomite,which can be subdivided into four groups.(1) burial dolomite which has higher REE concentrations than limestone,but lower than syndepositional dolomite.This shows that pore fluids with high salinity dolomitized the pre-existing limestone;(2) void filling dolomite which has the similar REE patterns with the matrix dolomite.In addition,the Eu anomaly is not obvious,suggesting that the dolomitization fluids originated from the diagenetic fluids;(3) recrystallized dolomite,whose REE concentration was obviously decreased,indicating that the REE concentration was decreased during the recrystallization processes;and(4) hydrothermal altered void-filling dolomite,which has the lowest REE concentration,but obvious positive Eu anomaly,reflecting its hydrothermal activity related origin.Thus,the diverse REE signatures,which were recorded in different dolomites,retain the information of their formation conditions and subsequent diagenetic processes.In situ REE analysis of dolomite is an effective probe into the origin and diagenetic process of dolomite. | WANG XiaoLin JIN ZhiJun HU WenXuan ZHANG JunTao QIAN YiXiong ZHU JingQuan LI Qing | 2009 | Science China Earth Sciences2009,52,5: | 7 |
| 10 | Deep electrical structure of the Sulu orogen and neighboring areas显示文摘Because of the discovery of ultrahigh pressure metamorphic (UHPM) belt beneath the Sulu (Jiangsu Province-Shandong Province) orogen, this area has become a focused subject of current geoscience, as it has a close relationship with the evolution of the orogen and the neighboring North China craton. Probing the deep structure beneath this area would be of great significance for the geological inter- pretation of this issue. In this study, we make an analysis of magnetotelluric (MT) data along a profile across the Sulu orogen to provide evidence of deep structure below this region. The profile begins in west from the North China block, extending in S129oE, across the Tan-Lu fault, Sulu UHPM zone, and Sulu high pressure metamorphic (HPM) zone, and terminates in the Yangtze block in east. We use the nonlinear conjugate gradient method and TE-TM combined mode to perform inversion and interpreta- tion of the MT data, and obtain an electrical structure image above depth of 150 km along the profile. It shows that the structure can be divided into seven sections in lateral direction, between which the electric boundaries coincide well with the major faults, such as the Tan-Lu, Haizhou-Siyang, and Ji- ashan-Xiangshui faults. In vertical direction the electrical structure can be subdivided into six layers of different resistivities. It is noted that there exist high-conductivity areas in crust below the North China block and Yangtze block, while such a feature is not present beneath the Sulu orogen, which is very different from the Dabie orogen. It is also observed that a fairly continuous zone of relatively low-resistivity exists at depths of 50-90 km of the electrical structure image, which is presumably a weak zone in the uppermost mantle. Just below this low-resistivity zone are the relatively high- resis- tivity layer of the North China block, relatively low-resistivity layer of the Sulu orogen, and relatively high-resistivity layer of the Yangtze block, all in the shallow upper mantle, respectively. | 12 | The spatial pattern of grassland aboveground biomass on Xizang Plateau and its climatic controls显示文摘Aims Grassland is the most widely distributed vegetation type on the Xizang Plateau.Accurate remote sensing estimation of the grass-land aboveground biomass(AGB)in this region is influenced by the types of vegetation indexes(VIs)used,the grain size(resolution)of the remote sensing data and the targeted ecosystem features.This study attempts to answer the following questions:(i)Which VI can most accurately reflect the grassland AGB distribution on the Xizang Plateau?(ii)How does the grain size of remote sensing imagery affect AGB reflection?(iii)What is the spatial distribution pattern of the grassland AGB on the plateau and its relationship with the climate?Methods We investigated 90 sample sites and measured site-specific AGBs using the harvest method for three grassland types(alpine meadow,alpine steppe and desert steppe).For each sample site,four VIs,namely,Normalized Difference VI(NDVI),Enhanced VI,Normalized Difference Water Index(NDWI)and Modified Soil-Adjusted VI(MSAVI)were extracted from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer(MODIS)products with grain sizes of 250 m and 1 km.Linear regression models were employed to iden-tify the best estimator of the AGB for the entire grassland and the three individual grassland types.Paired Wilcoxon tests were applied to assess the grain size effect on the AGB estimation.General linear models were used to quantify the relationships between the spatial distribution of the grassland AGB and climatic factors.Important Findings The results showed that the best estimator for the entire grass-land AGB on the Xizang Plateau was MSAVI at a 250 m grain size(MSAVI_(250 m)).For each individual grassland type,the best estimator was MSAVI at a grain size of 250 m for alpine meadow,NDWI at a grain size of 1 km for alpine steppe and NDVI at a grain size of 1 km for desert steppe.The explanation ability of each VI for the grassland AGB did not significantly differ for the two grain sizes.Based on the best fit model(AGB=−10.80+139.13 MSAVI_(250 m)),the spatial pattern of the grassland AGB on the plateau was characterized.The AGB varied from 1 to 136 g m^(−2).Approximately 59%of total spatial variation in the AGB for the entire grassland was explained by the combination of the mean annual precipitation(MAP)and mean annual temperature.The explanatory power of MAP was weaker for each individual grassland type than that for the entire grassland.This study illustrated the high efficiency of the VIs derived from MODIS data in the grassland AGB estimation on the Xizang Plateau due to the vegetation homogeneity within a 1×1 km pixel in this region.Furthermore,MAP is a primary driver on the spatial variation of AGB at a regional scale. | Yanbin Jiang Jian Tao Yongqi Huang Juntao Zhu Li Tian Yangjian Zhang | 2015 | Journal of Plant Ecology2015,8,1: | 6 |

| 15 | Protection of Li metal anode by surface-coating of PVDF thin film to enhance the cycling performance of Li batteries显示文摘Lithium metal, the ideal anode material for next-generation high-energy batteries, suffers from the severe safety problem of Li dendrites. Herein, we report a simple approach to effectively maintain the morphology of Li-metal anode and enhance the cycling performance of Li batteries by surface coating of a porous polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) thin film. In symmetrical cells testing, the cells with the Li@PVDF electrode display stable cycling performance more than 1300 h (650 cycles) at the current density of 0.5 mA/cm^2 with a stripping/plating capacity of 0.5 mAh/cm^2. | 16 | Regulation of microbiota–GLP1 axis by sennoside A in diet-induced obese mice显示文摘Sennoside A(SA) is a bioactive component of Chinese herbal medicines with an activity of irritant laxative, which is often used in the treatment of constipation and obesity. However, its activity remains unknown in the regulation of insulin sensitivity. In this study, the impact of SA on insulin sensitivity was tested in high fat diet(HFD)-induced obese mice through dietary supplementation. At a dosage of 30 mg/kg/day, SA improved insulin sensitivity in the mice after 8-week treatment as indicated by HOMA-IR(homeostatic model assessment for insulin resistance) and glucose tolerance test(GTT). SA restored plasma level of glucagon-like peptide 1(GLP1) by 90% and mRNA expression of Glp1 by 80% in the large intestine of HFD mice. In the mechanism, SA restored the gut microbiota profile, short chain fatty acids(SCFAs), and mucosal structure in the colon. A mitochondrial stress was observed in the enterocytes of HFD mice with ATP elevation, structural damage, and complex dysfunction. | 17 | Use of near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy for the rapid determination of the digestible energy and metabolizable energy content of corn fed to growing pigs显示文摘Background: The ability of near-infrared reflectance spectroscopy(NIRS) to determine the digestible energy(DE)and metabolizable energy(ME) content of corn fed to growing pigs was tested. One hundred and seventeen corn samples, comprising different planting regions and varieties were collected from all over China in a three-year period. The samples were randomly split into a calibration set(n = 88) and a validation set(n = 29). The actual and calculated DE and ME content of the corn samples was determined by digestion-metabolism experiments and the prediction equations of Noblet and Perez(J Anim Sci. 71:3389–98,1993). The samples were then subjected to NIRS scanning and calibrations were performed by the modified partial least square(MPLS) regression method based on77 different spectral pre-treatments. The NIRS equations based on the actually determined and calculated DE and ME were built separately and then validated using validation samples.Results: The NIRS equations obtained from actually determined DE, the coefficient of determination for calibration(RSQ_(cal)), cross-validation(R^2_(CV)), and validation(RSQ_v) were 0.89, 0.87 and 0.86, and these values for determined ME were 0.87, 0.86 and 0.86. For the NIRS equations built from calculated DE, the RSQ_(cal), R^2_(CV), and RSQvvalues were 0.88, 0.85 and 0.84, and these values for calculated ME were 0.86, 0.84 and 0.82. | 19 | Grazing alters environmental control mechanisms of evapotranspiration in an alpine meadow of the tibetan Plateau显示文摘Aims Evapotranspiration(Et)is an important component of the terrestrial water cycle and is easily affected by external disturbances,such as climate change and grazing.Identifying Et responses to grazing is instructive for determining grazing activity and informative for understanding the water cycle.Methods this study utilized 2 years(2014 and 2017)of eddy covariance data to test how grazing regulated Et for an alpine meadow ecosystem on the tibetan Plateau(tP)by path analysis.Important Findings Radiation dominated Et with a decision coefficient of 64-74%.the soil water content(SWc)worked as the limiting factor in the fenced site.However,in the grazing site,the limiting factor was the vapor pressure deficit(VPD).Grazing had large effects on Et because it greatly affected the water conditions.the SWc and VPD were enhanced by 14.63%and 4.36%in the grazing site,respectively.therefore,sufficient water was supplied to Et,especially during drought,and strengthened the transpiration pull.As a result,a favorable micrometeorological environment was created for Et.Grazing shifted the limiting factor of Et from the SWc to VPD,which weakened the limiting effect of the water conditions on Et and advanced the Et peak time.In addition,grazing altered the compositions of Et by changing the community structure,which directly resulted in an increased Et.In summary,grazing enhanced Et through altering the community structure and micrometeorological environments.the findings of this study further improve our understanding of the driving mechanisms of grazing on Et and will improve our predictions for the global water cycle. | Tingting An Mingjie Xu Tao Zhang Chengqun Yu Yingge Li Ning Chen Jiaxing Zu Junxiang Li Juntao Zhu Yi Sun Tingting Zhao Guirui Yu | 2019 | Journal of Plant Ecology2019,12,5: | 3 |
