| 4 | Biostratigraphy and geography of the Ordovician-Silurian Lungmachi black shales in South China显示文摘Based on the new material of seven Ordovician-Silurian boundary sections investigated recently, together with previously published data, we analyze the temporal and spatial distributions of the Lungmachi black shales, a key petroleum source bed widely distributed in South China. The Lungmachi black shales range in age from the Normalograptus persculptus Biozone of the uppermost Ordovician to the Spirograptus guerichi Biozone of the lower Telychian, and ten graptolite biozones can be recognized within this unit. The basal and upper contacts of the Lungmachi black shales are diachronous. The basal contact ranges from the N. persculptus to the C. cyphus biozones, a span of five graptolite biozones over two stages. The upper contact ranges from the D. pectinatus-M. argenteus Biozone to the Spirograptus guerichi Biozone, which spans four graptolite biozones over two stages. The Yichang Uplift resulted in the formation of the Hunan-Hubei Submarine High in the border area of Hubei, Hunan, and Chongqing. This is supported by a break in sedimentation in this area spanning all or part of the Hirnantian, and in many areas extending into the underlying Katian and overlying Rhuddanian. Comparison of the distribution of the Katian to Rhuddanian strata in this area indicates a growth and subsequent reduction in area of the Hunan-Hubei Submarine High particularly in the Hirnantian to early Rhuddanian. It is necessary to eliminate radionuclides from wastewater for the protection of environment. Nanomaterials have been considered as the potential candidates for the effective and selective removal of radionuclides from aqueous solutions under complicated conditions because of their high specific surface area, large amounts of binding sites, abundant functional groups, pore-size controllable and easily surface modification. This review mainly summarized the recent studies for the synthesis, fabrication and surface modification of novel nanomaterials and their applications in the efficient elimination and solidification of radionuclides,and discussed the interaction mechanisms from batch experiments, spectroscopy analysis and theoretical calculations. | 7 | Extant primates and development of primatology in China: Publications, student training, and funding显示文摘China supports the richest non-human primate diversity in the northern hemisphere, providing an excellent opportunity for Chinese primatologists to take a leading role in advancing the study of primatology.Primatology in China began to flourish after 1979. To date, Chinese primatologists have published more than 1 000 papers in journals indexed by the Chinese Science Citation Database and the Web of Science Core Collection, and universities and academic institutions have trained 107 PhD students and 370 Masters students between 1984 and 2016. In total,the National Science Foundation of China has funded129 primate projects(RMB 71.7 million) supporting 59 researchers from 28 organizations. However, previous research has also shown obvious species bias.Rhinopithecus roxellana, Rhinopithecus bieti, and Macaca mulatta have received much greater research attention than other species. Researchers have also tended to continue to study the same species(55.2%)they studied during their Ph D training. | 10 | Chinese herb microneedle patch for wound healing显示文摘Traditional Chinese medicine and Chinese herbs have a demonstrated value for disease therapy and sub-health improvement.Attempts in this area tend to develop new forms to make their applications more convenient and wider.Here,we propose a novel Chinese herb microneedle(CHMN)patch by integrating the herbal extracts,Premna microphylla and Centella asiatica,with microstructure of microneedle for wound healing.Such path is composed of sap extracted from the herbal leaves via traditional kneading method and solidified by plant ash derived from the brine induced process of tofu in a well-designed mold.Because the leaves of the Premna microphylla are rich in pectin and various amino acids,the CHMN could be imparted with medicinal efficacy of heat clearing,detoxicating,detumescence and hemostatic.Besides,with the excellent pharmaceutical activity of Asiatic acid extracted from Centella asiatica,the CHMN is potential in promoting relevant growth factor genes expression in fibroblasts and showing excellent performance in anti-oxidant,anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial activity.Taking advantages of these pure herbal compositions,we have demonstrated that the derived CHMN was with dramatical achievement in anti-bacteria,inhibiting inflammatory,collagen deposition,angiogenesis and tissue reconstruction during the wound closure.These results indicate that the integration of traditional Chinese herbs with progressive technologies will facilitate the development and promotion of traditional Chinese medicine in modern society. | Junjie Chi Lingyu Sun Lijun Cai Lu Fan Changmin Shao Luoran Shang Yuanjin Zhao | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,10: | 8 |
| 11 | Effects of adding bulking agents on the biodrying of kitchen waste and the odor emissions produced显示文摘The effects of adding a bulking agent on the performance and odor emissions(ammonia and eight sulfur-containing odorous compounds) when biodrying kitchen waste were investigated. Three treatments were considered: the addition of either cornstalks(CS) or wood peat(WP) to kitchen waste as a bulking agent before biodrying, and a control treatment(CK). The water-removal rates for CK, CS, and WP treatments were 0.35, 0.56, and0.43 kg/kg, respectively. Addition of bulking agents to kitchen waste produced less leachate,higher moisture-removal rates, and lower consumption of volatile solids. The CS treatment had the highest biodrying index(4.07), and those for the WP and CK treatments were 3.67 and 1.97, respectively. Adding cornstalks or wood peat decreased NH3 emissions by 55.8%and 71.7%, respectively. Total sulfur losses were 3.6%–21.6% after 21 days biodrying, and H2 S and Me2 SS were the main(> 95%) sulfur compounds released. | 14 | IL-6 and INF-γ levels in patients with brucellosis in severe epidemic region,Xinjiang,China显示文摘Background:The incidence of brucellosis,which is caused by the Brucella species of bacteria,is rapidly rising worldwide;however,few studies have investigated the immune response to this pathogen and clinical biochemical features.In this paper,we examined the levels of various cytokines and inflammatory factors as well as clinical course characteristics in patients with brucellosis,in order to provide evidence for the diagnosis,assessment,and prognosis of this infectious disease.Methods:A total of 191 brucellosis inpatients(50 acute cases and 141 chronic cases),as well as 60 healthy control subjects,were included in the analysis.We investigated changes in the levels of six cytokines(IL-4,IL-6,IL-10,IL-17,TNF-α,INF-γ)and related clinical biochemical markers in patients with acute and chronic brucellosis in Xinjiang,China.Possible factors were statistically analyzed using the t test,χ2 test,z test and a multivariate logistic stepwise regression test.Results:We found that IL-4,IL-6,IL-10,IL-17,IFN-γ,and TNF-αlevels were higher in those with brucellosis than in controls(P<0.05).With regard to disease progression,procalcitonin(PCT)and C-reactive protein(CRP)levels were significantly higher in those with an acute infection compared to chronic cases(P<0.05).We found that the expression of all six cytokines tested was closely related to the degree of brucellosis using univariate logistic regression;however,only IL-6 and INF-γlevels were independent factors associated with the severity of brucellosis.Conclusions:Assessing cytokine levels in patients with acute and chronic brucellosis is not only useful for detecting the immune response,but can also be indicative of the severity of brucellosis.In particular,we propose IL-6 and INF-γlevels may be useful independent predictive factors in the clinical evaluation and diagnosis of brucellosis. | Zhi-Qiang Lin Guo-Yue Lin Wen-Wen He Chi Zhang Rui Zhang Yuan-Da Li Fan Wang Ying Qin Li Duan Dou-Dou Zhao Xiao-Juan Qu Hui Gao Hai Jiang | 2020 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2020,9,3: | 7 |

| 16 | Occurrence and formation potential of nitrosamines in river water and ground water along the Songhua River, China显示文摘The presence of mutagenic and carcinogenic nitrosamines in water is of great concern. In this study, seven nitrosamines including N-nitrosodimethylamine(NDMA), N-nitrosodiethylamine(NDEA), N-nitrosomethylethylamine(NMEA), N-nitrosopyrrolidine(NPyr), N-nitrosopiperidine(NPip), N-nitrosodi-n-propylamine(NDPA), and N-nitrosodi-n-butyl-amine(NDBA) were investigated in river water and ground water samples collected from 5 representative cities(Jilin, Songyuan, Harbin, Jiamusi and Tongjiang) along the Songhua River. The total concentrations of nitrosamines in ground water were n.d.(not detected) to 60.8 ng/L, NDMA was the most frequently detected nitrosamines in ground water, followed by NDEA and NPip.Relatively high detected frequency and concentrations of NDMA were also observed in river water samples, and the total nitrosamines' concentration at midstream is always higher than that at upstream and downstream. After 24 hr chlorination, concentration of NDMA, NDBA was obviously increased but NDEA was reduced. | 18 | Comparative genomic and transcriptomic analyses uncover the molecular basis of high nitrogen-use efficiency in the wheat cultivar Kenong 9204显示文摘Studying the regulatory mechanisms that drive nitrogen-use efficiency(NUE)in crops is important for sustainable agriculture and environmental protection.In this study,we generated a high-quality genome assembly for the high-NUE wheat cultivar Kenong 9204 and systematically analyzed genes related to nitrogen uptake and metabolism.By comparative analyses,we found that the high-affinity nitrate transporter gene family had expanded in Triticeae.Further studies showed that subsequent functional differentiation endowed the expanded family members with saline inducibility,providing a genetic basis for improving the adaptability of wheat to nitrogen deficiency in various habitats.To explore the genetic and molecular mechanisms of high NUE,we compared genomic and transcriptomic data from the high-NUE cultivar Kenong 9204(KN9204)and the low-NUE cultivar Jing 411 and quantified their nitrogen accumulation under high-and low-nitrogen conditions.Compared with Jing 411,KN9204 absorbed significantly more nitrogen at the reproductive stage after shooting and accumulated it in the shoots and seeds.Transcriptome data analysis revealed that nitrogen deficiency clearly suppressed the expression of genes related to cell division in the young spike of Jing 411,whereas this suppression of gene expression was much lower in KN9204.In addition,KN9204 maintained relatively high expression of NPF genes for a longer time than Jing 411 during seed maturity.Physiological and transcriptome data revealed that KN9204 was more tolerant of nitrogen deficiency than Jing 411,especially at the reproductive stage.The high NUE of KN9204 is an integrated effect controlled at different levels.Taken together,our data provide new insights into the molecular mechanisms of NUE and important gene resources for improving wheat cultivars with a higher NUE trait. | Xiaoli Shi Fa Cui Xinyin Han Yilin He Long Zhao Na Zhang Hao Zhang Haidong Zhu Zhexin Liu Bin Ma Shusong Zheng Wei Zhang Jiajia Liu Xiaoli Fan Yaoqi Si Shuiquan Tian Jianqing Niu Huilan Wu Xuemei Liu Zhuo Chen Deyuan Meng Xiaoyan Wang Liqiang Song Lijing Sun Jie Han Hui Zhao Jun Ji Zhiguo Wang Xiaoyu He Ruilin Li Xuebin Chi Chengzhi Liang Beifang Niu Jun Xiao Junming Li Hong-Qing Ling | 2022 | Molecular Plant2022,15,9: | 6 |
