| 3 | Disentangling the effects of topography and space on the distributions of dominant species in a subtropical forest显示文摘Topography and space are two important factors determining plant species assemblages in forest communities.Quantification of the contribution of these two factors in determining species distribution helps us to evaluate their relative importance in determining species assemblages.This study aims to disentangle the effect of topography and space on the distributions of 14 dominant species in a subtropical mixed forest.Spearman correlation analysis and the torustranslation test were used to test the species–habitat associations.Variation partitioning was used to quantify the relative contributions of topography and space at three sampling scales and three life stages.Correlation analyses and torus-translation tests showed species abundance was mostly correlated with topographic wetness index,vertical distance from the channel network and convexity.Variation partitioning showed that pure topography,pure space and spatially structured topography explained about 2.1 %,41.2 % and 13.8 %of the variation in species distributions,respectively.For nine species,total topography fractions peaked in 20 m quadrats.For ten species,the pure space fractions peaked in 50 m quadrats.For many species,the total topography fraction andthe pure space fraction were larger for the most abundant life stages,which reflected the importance of sampling effect.However,some cases did not follow this trend suggesting that the effects of ecological processes such as habitat filtering,density dependence or dispersal limitation may exceed the sampling effects.In conclusion,we found that spatially structured topography and pure space primarily shaped the distribution of dominant tree species.Furthermore,their effects were both scale- and life stage-dependent. | Qinggang Wang Yaozhan Xu Zhijun Lu Dachuan Bao Yili Guo Junmeng Lu Kuihan Zhang Haibo Liu Hongjie Meng Xiujuan Qiao Handong Huang Mingxi Jiang | 2014 | Chinese Science Bulletin2014,59,35: | 16 |

| 7 | Passive-source ocean bottom seismograph(OBS) array experiment in South China Sea and data quality analyses显示文摘Long-term passive source ocean bottom seismograph(OBS) observatory is challenging due to various technical difficulties. In order to gain experience in this field, and to reveal the lithospheric structure beneath the extinct ridge in the central South China Sea(SCS), we carried out a passive source OBS array experiment, which includes 18 OBSs, in the deep portion of SCS. Here we present the instrumentation, the OBS deployment and recovery of this experiment, and more importantly, the data quality evaluated by a number of approaches. Through processing and inspecting waveforms from global, regional and local earthquakes, we find that most of recovered OBSs have good data quality with discernible main phases. The ambient noise analyses of OBS recordings show that their noise is higher than the global average, and the horizontal component is noisier than the vertical, indicating current impacts on horizontal components are more severe. In the period range of 5–10 s, there is a noise notch for the SCS OBSs, and noise levels of horizontal components are comparable to the vertical. This feature, which is not seen at OBS stations in open ocean, suggests the distant sources for double frequency microseism in this marginal sea are not significant. In addition, we successfully determined the orientations for 7 OBSs by investigating their Rayleigh wave polarizations; and we demonstrated the dispersion feature of Rayleigh waves through the frequency-time analysis. | 9 | The Cenozoic activities of Yangjiang-Yitongdong Fault: insights from analysis of the tectonic characteristics and evolution processes in western Zhujiang(Pearl) River Mouth Basin显示文摘The Yangjiang-Yitongdong Fault (YJF) is an important NW-trending regional fault, which divides the Zhujiang (Pearl) River Mouth Basin (ZRMB) into western and eastern segments. In Cenozoic, the northern continental margin of the South China Sea (SCS) underwent continental rifting, breakup, seafloor spreading and thermal subsidence processes, and the Cenozoic activities of YJF is one part of this series of complex processes. Two long NW-trending multichannel seismic profiles located on both sides of the YJF extending from the continental shelf to Continent-Ocean Boundary (COB) were used to study the tectonic and sedimentary characteristics of western ZRMB. Using the 2D-Move software and back-stripping method, we constructed the balance cross-section model and calculated the fault activity rate. Through the comprehensive consideration of tectonic position, tectonic evolution history, featured structure, and stress analysis, we deduced the activity history of the YJF in Cenozoic. The results showed that the YJF can be divided into two segments by the central uplift belt. From 65 Ma to 32 Ma, the YJF was in sinistral motion as a whole, inherited the preexisting sinistral motion of Mesozoic YJF, in which, the southern part of YJF was mainly in extension activity, controlling the formation and evolution of Yunkai Low Uplift, coupled with slight sinistral motion. From 32 Ma to 23.8 Ma, the sinistral motion in northern part of YJF continued, while the sinistral motion in southern part began to stop or shifted to a slightly dextral motion. After 23.8 Ma, the dextral motion in southern part of YJF continued, while the sinistral motion in northern part of YJF gradually stopped, or shifted to the slightly dextral motion. The shift of the YJF strike-slip direction may be related to the magmatic underplating in continent-ocean transition, southeastern ZRMB. | 10 | An Arctic sea ice thickness variability revealed from satellite altimetric measurements显示文摘A modified algorithm taking into account the first year(FY) and multiyear(MY) ice densities is used to derive a sea ice thickness from freeboard measurements acquired by satellite altimetry ICESat(2003–2008). Estimates agree with various independent in situ measurements within 0.21 m. Both the fall and winter campaigns see a dramatic extent retreat of thicker MY ice that survives at least one summer melting season. There were strong seasonal and interannual variabilities with regard to the mean thickness. Seasonal increases of 0.53 m for FY the ice and 0.29 m for the MY ice between the autumn and the winter ICESat campaigns, roughly 4–5 month separation, were found. Interannually, the significant MY ice thickness declines over the consecutive four ICESat winter campaigns(2005–2008) leads to a pronounced thickness drop of 0.8 m in MY sea ice zones. No clear trend was identified from the averaged thickness of thinner, FY ice that emerges in autumn and winter and melts in summer. Uncertainty estimates for our calculated thickness, caused by the standard deviations of multiple input parameters including freeboard, ice density, snow density, snow depth, show large errors more than 0.5 m in thicker MY ice zones and relatively small standard deviations under 0.5 m elsewhere. Moreover, a sensitivity analysis is implemented to determine the separate impact on the thickness estimate in the dependence of an individual input variable as mentioned above. | 14 | Satellite-observed trends in the Arctic sea ice concentration for the period 1979–2016显示文摘Arctic sea ice cover has decreased dramatically over the last three decades. This study quanti?es the sea ice concentration(SIC) trends in the Arctic Ocean over the period of 1979–2016 and analyzes their spatial and temporal variations. During each month the SIC trends are negative over the Arctic Ocean, wherein the largest(smallest) rate of decline found in September(March) is-0.48%/a(-0.10%/a).The summer(-0.42%/a) and autumn(-0.31%/a) seasons show faster decrease rates than those of winter(-0.12%/a) and spring(-0.20%/a) seasons. Regional variability is large in the annual SIC trend. The largest SIC trends are observed for the Kara(-0.60%/a) and Barents Seas(-0.54%/a), followed by the Chukchi Sea(-0.48%/a), East Siberian Sea(-0.43%/a), Laptev Sea(-0.38%/a), and Beaufort Sea(-0.36%/a). The annual SIC trend for the whole Arctic Ocean is-0.26%/a over the same period. Furthermore, the in?uences and feedbacks between the SIC and three climate indexes and three climatic parameters, including the Arctic Oscillation(AO), North Atlantic Oscillation(NAO), Dipole anomaly(DA), sea surface temperature(SST), surface air temperature(SAT), and surface wind(SW), are investigated. Statistically, sea ice provides memory for the Arctic climate system so that changes in SIC driven by the climate indices(AO, NAO and DA) can be felt during the ensuing seasons. Positive SST trends can cause greater SIC reductions, which is observed in the Greenland and Barents Seas during the autumn and winter. In contrast, the removal of sea ice(i.e., loss of the insulating layer) likely contributes to a colder sea surface(i.e., decreased SST), as is observed in northern Barents Sea. Decreasing SIC trends can lead to an in-phase enhancement of SAT, while SAT variations seem to have a lagged in?uence on SIC trends. | 16 | Effects of nonionic surfactant Triton X-100 on the laccase-catalyzed conversion of bisphenol A显示文摘The laccase-catalyzed conversion of bisphenol A (BPA) in aqueous solutions was studied in the absence and presence of nonionic surfactant Triton X-100. It was found that the addition of Triton X-100 into the reaction system increased the conversion of BPA, especially near the critical micelle concentration of Triton X-100. Also it was found that the stability of laccase was greatly improved in the presence of TritonX-100. Studies on the endogenous fluorescence emission of laccase indicated that there existed an interaction between Triton X-100 and laccase, which was beneficial to folding and stabilizating of laccase. The binding of Triton X-100 to the laccase surface also mitigated the inactivation effect caused by the free radicals and polymerization products. | 19 | Energy Optimization for Cellular-Connected Multi-UAV Mobile Edge Computing Systems with Multi-Access Schemes显示文摘In this paper,a cellular-connected unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)mobile edge computing system is studied where several UAVs are associated to a terrestrial base station(TBS)for computation offloading.To compute the large amount of data bits,a part of computation task is migrated to TBS and the other part is locally handled at UAVs.Our goal is to minimize the total energy consumption of all UAVs by jointly adjusting the bit allocation,power allocation,resource partitioning as well as UAV trajectory under TBS’s energy budget.For deeply comprehending the impact of multi-UAV access strategy on the system performance,four access schemes in the uplink transmission is considered,i.e.,time division multiple access,orthogonal frequency division multiple access,one-by-one access and non-orthogonal multiple access.The involved problems under different access schemes are all formulated in non-convex forms,which are difficult to be tackled optimally.To solve this class of problem,the successive convex approximation technique is employed to obtain the suboptimal solutions.The numerical results show that the proposed scheme save significant energy consumption compared with the benchmark schemes. | Meng Hua Yongming Huang Yi Wang Qingqing Wu Haibo Dai Lyuxi Yang | 2018 | Journal of Communications and Information Networks2018,3,4: | 6 |
