1Recent advances in membrane bioreactor technology for wastewater treatment in China显示文摘Since the introduction of the membrane bioreactor(MBR)in China in the early 1990s,remarkable progress has been achieved on the research and application of this technology.China has now become one of the most active fields in the world in this regard.This review outlines the development of MBR-based processes in China and their performance of treating municipal and industrial wastewaters.Since membrane fouling is a critical operational problem with MBR processes,this paper also proposes updated understanding of fouling mechanisms and strategies of fouling control,which are mainly compiled from publications of Chinese researchers.As for the commercial application of MBR in the country,the latest statistics of large-scale MBR plants(>10000 m^(3)·d^(–1))are provided,and the growth trend of total treatment capacity as well as its driving force is analyzed.Xia HUANG Kang XIAO Yuexiao SHEN 2010Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering2010,4,3:33
2Terrestrial carbon sinks in China and around the world and their contribution to carbon neutrality显示文摘Enhancing the terrestrial ecosystem carbon sink(referred to as terrestrial C sink) is an important way to slow down the continuous increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide(CO_(2)) concentration and to achieve carbon neutrality target.To better understand the characteristics of terrestrial C sinks and their contribution to carbon neutrality,this review summarizes major progress in terrestrial C budget researches during the past decades,clarifies spatial patterns and drivers of terrestrial C sources and sinks in China and around the world,and examines the role of terrestrial C sinks in achieving carbon neutrality target.According to recent studies,the global terrestrial C sink has been increasing from a source of (-0.2±0.9) Pg C yr^(-1)(1 Pg=1015g)in the 1960s to a sink of (1.9±1.1) Pg C yr^(-1) in the 2010s.By synthesizing the published data,we estimate terrestrial C sink of 0.20–0.25 Pg C yr^(-1) in China during the past decades,and predict it to be 0.15–0.52 Pg C yr^(-1) by 2060.The terrestrial C sinks are mainly located in the mid-and high latitudes of the Northern Hemisphere,while tropical regions act as a weak C sink or source.The C balance differs much among ecosystem types:forest is the major C sink;shrubland,wetland and farmland soil act as C sinks;and whether the grassland functions as C sink or source remains unclear.Desert might be a C sink,but the magnitude and the associated mechanisms are still controversial.Elevated atmospheric CO_(2) concentration,nitrogen deposition,climate change,and land cover change are the main drivers of terrestrial C sinks,while other factors such as fires and aerosols would also affect ecosystem C balance.The driving factors of terrestrial C sink differ among regions.Elevated CO_(2) concentration and climate change are major drivers of the C sinks in North America and Europe,while afforestation and ecological restoration are additionally important forcing factors of terrestrial C sinks in China.For future studies,we recommend the necessity for intensive and long-term ecosystem C monitoring over broad geographic scale to improve terrestrial biosphere models for accurately evaluating terrestrial C budget and its dynamics under various climate change and policy scenarios.Yuanhe Yang Yue Shi Wenjuan Sun Jinfeng Chang Jianxiao Zhu Leiyi Chen Xin Wang Yanpei Guo Hongtu Zhang Lingfei Yu Shuqing Zhao Kang Xu Jiangling Zhu Haihua Shen Yuanyuan Wang Yunfeng Peng Xia Zhao Xiangping Wang Huifeng Hu Shiping Chen Mei Huang Xuefa Wen Shaopeng Wang Biao Zhu Shuli Niu Zhiyao Tang Lingli Liu Jingyun Fang 2022Science China(Life Sciences)2022,65,5:32

4Source Separation of Diesel Engine Vibration Based on the Empirical Mode Decomposition and Independent Component Analysis显示文摘Vibration signals from diesel engine contain many different components mainly caused by combustion and mechanism operations,several blind source separation techniques are available for decomposing the signal into its components in the case of multichannel measurements,such as independent component analysis(ICA).However,the source separation of vibration signal from single-channel is impossible.In order to study the source separation from single-channel signal for the purpose of source extraction,the combination method of empirical mode decomposition(EMD) and ICA is proposed in diesel engine signal processing.The performance of the described methods of EMD-wavelet and EMD-ICA in vibration signal application is compared,and the results show that EMD-ICA method outperforms the other,and overcomes the drawback of ICA in the case of single-channel measurement.The independent source signal components can be separated and identified effectively from one-channel measurement by EMD-ICA.Hence,EMD-ICA improves the extraction and identification abilities of source signals from diesel engine vibration measurements.DU Xianfeng LI Zhijun BI Fengrong ZHANG Junhong WANG Xia SHAO Kang 2012Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering2012,25,3:21

6Seroepidemiological Investigation of Lyme Disease and Human Granulocytic Anaplasmosis among People Living in Forest Areas of Eight Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Lyme disease and Human granulocytic anaplasmosis are tick‐borne diseases caused by Borrelia burgdorferi and Anaplasma phagocytophilum respectively. We have investigated infection and co-infection of the two diseases in the population of forest areas of eight provinces in China by measuring seroprevalence of antibodies against B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum. Methods Forest areas in 8 provinces were chosen for investigation using whole sampling and questionnaire survey methods. 3 669 serum samples from people in the forest areas were tested for the presence of antibodies by indirect immunofluorescent assay (IFA). Results Seroprevalence against B. burgdorferi was 3% to 15% and against A. phagocytophilum was 2% to 18% in the study sites in the 8 provinces in China. We also found co-infection of B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum in 7 of the 8 provinces (the exception being the Miyun area in Beijing). The seroprevalence for both B. burgdorferi and A. phagocytophilum was significantly higher among people exposed to ticks than among people who were not exposed to ticks. 8A novel superhard tungsten nitride predicted by machine-learning accelerated crystal structure search显示文摘Transition metal nitrides have been suggested to have both high hardness and good thermal stability with large potential application value,but so far stable superhard transition metal nitrides have not been synthesized.Here,with our newly developed machine-learning accelerated crystal structure searching method,we designed a superhard tungsten nitride,h-WN_6,which can be synthesized at pressure around65 GPa and quenchable to ambient pressure.This h-WN_6is constructed with single-bonded armchair-like N_6rings and presents ionic-like features,which can be formulated as W^(2.4+)N_6^(2.4à).It has a band gap of1.6 e V at 0 GPa and exhibits an abnormal gap broadening behavior under pressure.Excitingly,this h-WN_6is found to be the hardest among transition metal nitrides known so far(Vickers hardness around57 GPa)and also has a very high melting temperature(around 1,900 K).Additionally,the good gravimetric(3.1 k J/g)and volumetric(28.0 k J/cm^3)energy densities make this nitrogen-rich compound a potential high-energy-density material.These predictions support the designing rules and may stimulate future experiments to synthesize superhard and high-energy-density material.Kang Xia Hao Gao Cong Liu Jianan Yuan Jian Sun Hui-Tian Wang Dingyu Xing 2018Science Bulletin2018,63,13:11
9Comparison of different methods of intestinal obstruction in a rat model显示文摘AIM:To investigate different methods of creating incomplete intestinal obstruction in a rat model and to compare their electrophysiologic,morphologic and histologic characteristics. METHODS:Rat ileum was partially obstructed by the respective application of:braided silk(penetrated the mesentery and surrounded intestine);half ligation (penetrated directly and ligated 1/2 cross-section of the intestine);wide pipe(6 mm in width,surrounded the intestine);narrow pipe(2 mm in width,surrounded the intestine).A control was also included(no obstruction). Various behavioral and electrophysiologic variables, as well as morphologic and immunohistochemical observations were recorded by blinded investigators at different time points(12,24,48,72 h),including daily general condition,ileal wet weight and circumference, macromorphous and micromorphous intestine,bowel movement capability in vivo and in vitro,slow wave and neural electrical activity,and the number of c-Kit positive interstitial cells of Cajal(ICC). RESULTS:Despite being of a similar general condition, these methods resulted in different levels of obstruction in each group compared with the control at different time points(12,24,48,72 h).However,these fields of the wide pipe rat showed significantly differences when compared with the other three obstructed groups at 12 to 72 h,including macroscopic and histological presentation,intestinal transit ratio and contractility,circumference and wet weight,amplitude and frequency of nerve electrical discharge and slow wave,and ICC numbers(all P<0.01). 10Defined tumor antigen-specific T cells potentiate personalized TCR-T cell therapy and prediction of immunotherapy response显示文摘Personalized immunotherapy targeting tumor-specific antigens(TSAs)could generate efficient and safe antitumor immune response without damaging normal tissues.Although neoantigen vaccines have shown therapeutic effect in clinic trials,precise prediction of neoantigens from tumor mutations is still challenging.The host antitumor immune response selects and activates T cells recognizing tumor antigens.Hence,T cells engineered with T-cell receptors(TCRs)from these naturally occurring tumor antigen-specific T(Tas)cells in a patient will target personal TSAs in his/her tumor.To establish such a personalized TCR-T cell therapy,we comprehensively characterized T cells in tumor and its adjacent tissues by single-cell mRNA sequencing(scRNA-seq),TCR sequencing(TCR-seq)and in vitro neoantigen stimulation.Compared to bystander T cells circulating among tissues,Tas cells were characterized by tumor enrichment,tumor-specific clonal expansion and neoantigen specificity.We found that CXCL13 is a unique marker for both CD4^(+)and CD8^(+)Tas cells.Importantly,TCR-T cells expressing TCRs from Tas cells showed significant therapeutic effects on autologous patient-derived xenograft(PDX)tumors.Intratumoral Tas cell levels measured by CXCL13 expression precisely predicted the response to immune checkpoint blockade,indicating a critical role of Tas cells in the antitumor immunity.We further identified CD200 and ENTPD1 as surface markers for CD4^(^(+))and CD8^(^(+))Tas cells respectively,which enabled the isolation of Tas cells from tumor by Fluorescence Activating Cell Sorter(FACS)sorting.Overall,our results suggest that TCR-T cells engineered with Tas TCRs are a promising agent for personalized immunotherapy,and intratumoral Tas cell levels determine the response to immunotherapy.Jingjing He Xinxin Xiong Han Yang Dandan Li Xuefei Liu Shuo Li Shuangye Liao Siyu Chen Xizhi Wen Kuai Yu Lingyi Fu Xingjun Dong Kaiyu Zhu Xiaojun Xia Tiebang Kang Chaochao Bian Xiang Li Haiping Liu Peirong Ding Xiaoshi Zhang Zhenjiang Liu Wende Li Zhixiang Zuo Penghui Zhou 2022Cell Research2022,32,6:10

14Diesel Engine Valve Clearance Fault Diagnosis Based on Features Extraction Techniques and FastICA-SVM显示文摘Numerous vibration-based techniques are rarely used in diesel engines fault diagnosis in a direct way, due to the surface vibration signals of diesel engines with the complex non-stationary and nonlinear time-varying features. To investigate the fault diagnosis of diesel engines,fractal correlation dimension, wavelet energy and entropy as features reflecting the diesel engine fault fractal and energy characteristics are extracted from the decomposed signals through analyzing vibration acceleration signals derived from the cylinder head in seven different states of valve train. An intelligent fault detector FastICA-SVM is applied for diesel engine fault diagnosis and classification.The results demonstrate that FastICA-SVM achieves higher classification accuracy and makes better generalization performance in small samples recognition. 15Initiation of Parkinson’s disease from gut to brain byδ-secretase显示文摘Lewy pathology,composed ofα-Synuclein(α-Syn)inclusions,a hallmark of Parkinson’s disease(PD),progressively spreads from the enteric nervous system(ENS)to the central nervous system(CNS).However,it remains unclear how this process is regulated at a molecular level.Here we show thatδ-secretase(asparagine endopeptidase,AEP)cleaves bothα-Syn at N103 and Tau at N368,and mediates their fibrillization and retrograde propagation from the gut to the brain,triggering nigra dopaminergic neuronal loss associated with Lewy bodies and motor dysfunction.α-Syn N103 and Tau N368 robustly interact with each other and are highly elevated in PD patients’gut and brain.Chronic oral administration of the neurotoxin rotenone induces AEP activation andα-Syn N103/Tau N368 complex formation in the gut,eliciting constipation and dopaminergic neuronal death in an AEP-dependent manner.Preformed fibrils(PFFs)ofα-Syn N103/Tau N368 are more neurotoxic and compact,and aggregate more quickly along the vagus nerve than their FL/FL counterparts or the individual fragments’fibrils.Colonic injection of PFFs induces PD pathologies,motor dysfunctions,and cognitive impairments.Thus,δ-secretase plays a crucial role in initiating PD pathology progression from the ENS to the CNS.Eun Hee Ahn Seong Su Kang Xia Liu Guiqin Chen Zhentao Zhang Bindu Chandrasekharan Ashfaqul M.Alam Andrew S.Neish Xuebing Cao Keqiang Ye 2020Cell Research2020,30,1:9
16Large-Scale Membrane Bioreactors for Industrial Wastewater Treatment in China:Technical and Economic Features,Driving Forces,and Perspectives显示文摘Membrane bioreactors(MBRs)have been and will continue playing an important role in industrial wastewater treatment and reuse in China.The sustainable development of MBR technology in its mature-application stage requires reciprocal interactions between engineering and research participants.Thus,in this study,a total of 182 large-scale MBR projects treating industrial wastewater(with individual treatment capacities5000 m3d1)commissioned and under construction from 2003 to 2019 were analyzed comprehensively.Fast growth of the cumulative treatment capacity was observed,with extension to diverse industries,and the super large-scale was enhanced recently.The treatment processes,pollutant removal efficiencies,and actual operational parameters were summarized regarding the particularity of industrial wastewater compared to municipal wastewater.Economic features including the total investment costs of the projects,their total footprint,and their operational energy consumption were analyzed as well.A vigorous MBR market has formed in China with the fast development of membrane elements and engineering suppliers,continuously increasing official oriented projects,and responsive and innovative business modes.MBR technology has been mostly applied in specific economic zones and water-deficient areas,but its widespread use all over China is foreseeable considering the vast future market for industrial wastewater treatment and recycling.The policy–economy and market–technology driving forces revealed that MBR is consistent with the national development demand.According to the survey and analysis,prospective development in both engineering and research aspects of MBR is proposed to maintain its competitive edge.Jiao Zhang Kang Xiao Ziwei Liu Tingwei Gao Shuai Liang Xia Huang 2021Engineering2021,7,6:9

18Post-marketing Re-evaluation of Tongxiening Granules (痛泻宁颗粒) in Treatment of Diarrhea-Predominant Irritable Bowel Syndrome:A Multi-center,Randomized,Double-Blind,Double-Dummy and Positive Control Trial显示文摘Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of Tongxiening Granules(痛泻宁颗粒, TXNG) in the treatment of irritable bowel syndrome with predominant diarrhea(IBS-D). Methods: A randomized, double-blind, double-dummy, and positive paral el control ed clinical trial was conducted from October 2014 to March 2016. Total y 342 patients from 13 clinical centers were enrolled and randomly assigned(at the ratio of 1:1) to a treatment group(171 cases) and a control group(171 cases) by a random coding table. The patients in the treatment group were administered oral y with TXNG(5 g per time) combined with pinaverium bromide Tablet simulator(50 mg per time), 3 times per day. The patients in the control group were given TXNG simulator(5 g per time) combined with pinaverium bromide Tablets(50 mg per time), 3 times per day. The treatment course lasted for 6 weeks. The improvement of Irritable Bowel Syndrome Symptom Severity Score(IBS-SSS) was used to evaluate the primary outcome. Secondary outcomes included adequate relief(AR) rate, Irritable Bowel Syndrome-Quality of Life Questionnaire(IBS-QOL), Hamilton Anxiety Scale(HAMA), Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD), and the recurrence rate at fol ow-ups. Safety indices including the adverse events(AEs) and related laboratory tests were evaluated. Results: Primary outcome: IBS-SSS at baseline, weeks 2, 4, 6 showed no statistical significance in both full analysis set(FAS) and per protocol set(PPS, P>0.05). After 6 weeks of treatment, the total effective rate of IBS-SSS scores in the treatment group(147/171, 86.0%) was higher than the control group(143/171, 83.6%) by FAS(P>0.05). In regard to secondary outcomes, after 6-week treatment, there was no significant difference in AR rate, total score of IBS-QOL, improvement of HAMD and HAMA total scores between the two groups(P>0.05). The recurrence rate at 8-week fol ow-up was 12.35%(10/18) in treatment group and 15.79%(12/76) in control group, respectivery(P>0.05). A total of 21 AEs occurred in 15 cases, of which 11 occurred in 8 cases in the treatment group and 10 AEs in 7 cases in the control group. The incidence of AEs had no statistical significance between the two goups(P>0.05). 19A Study of the Technique of Western Blot for Diagnosis of Lyme Disease caused by Borrelia afzelii in China显示文摘Objective To study the technique of Western blot for the diagnosis of Lyme disease caused by Borrelia afzelii in China and to establish the standard criteria by operational procedure. Methods FP1, which is the representative strain of B. afzelii in China, was analyzed by SDS‐PAGE, electro transfer and immunoblotting assays. The molecular weights of the protein bands of FP1 were analyzed by Gel‐Pro analysis software. In a study using 451 serum samples (159 patients with Lyme disease and 292 controls), all observed bands were recorded. The accuracy of the WB as a diagnostic test was established by using the ROC curve and Youden index. Results Criteria for a positive diagnosis of Lyme disease were established as at least one band of P83/100, P58, P39, OspB, OspA, P30, P28, OspC, P17, and P14 in the IgG test and at least one band of P83/100, P58, P39, OspA, P30, P28, OspC, P17, and P41 in the IgM test. For IgG criteria, the sensitivity, specificity and Youden index were 69.8%, 98.3%, and 0.681, respectively; for IgM criteria, the sensitivity, specificity and Youden index were 47%, 94.2%, and 0.412, respectively.
