1Black carbon aerosols and their radiative properties in the Pearl River Delta region显示文摘The climatic and environmental effects of atmospheric aerosols are a hot topic in global science community, and radiative properties of the aerosols are one of the important parameters in assessing climatic change. Here we studied the black carbon concentration and absorption coefficient measured with aethalometers, scattering coefficient measured with nephelometers, and single scattering albedo derived at an atmospheric composition watch station in Guangzhou from 2004 to 2007. Our main results are as follows. The data of black carbon concentration and absorption coefficients measured with instruments cannot be directly used until they are measured in parallel with internationally accepted instruments for comparison, calibration, and reduction. After evaluation of the data, the result shows that the monthly mean of BC concentration varies 3.1―14.8 μg·m-3 and the concentration decreases by about 1 μg·m-3 in average over the four years; It is higher in the dry season with a multi-year mean of 8.9 μg/m3 and lower in the rainy season with a multi-year mean of 8.0 μg·m-3; The extreme maximum of monthly mean concentration occurred in December 2004 and extreme minimum in July 2007, and a 4-year mean is 8.4 μg·m-3. It is also shown that monthly mean scattering coefficient derived varies 129 -565 Mm-1, monthly mean absorption coefficient 32-139 Mm-1, and monthly mean single scattering albedo 0.71-0.91, with annual mean values of 0.80, 0.82, 0.79 and 0.84 for 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007, respectively. Three instruments were used to take simultaneous measurements of BC in PM10, PM2.5, and PM1 and the results showed that PM2.5 took up about 90% of PM10 and PM1 accounted for about 68% of PM2.5, and BC aerosols are mainly present in fine particulates. The variability of BC concentrations is quite consistent between the Nancun station (141 m above sea level) and the Panyu station (13 m above sea level), which are 8 km apart from each other. 2Programmable time-domain digital-coding metasurface for non-linear harmonic manipulation and new wireless communication systems显示文摘Optical non-linear phenomena are typically observed in natural materials interacting with light at high intensities, and they benefit a diverse range of applications from communication to sensing. However,controlling harmonic conversion with high efficiency and flexibility remains a major issue in modern optical and radio-frequency systems. Here, we introduce a dynamic time-domain digital-coding metasurface that enables efficient manipulation of spectral harmonic distribution. By dynamically modulating the local phase of the surface reflectivity, we achieve accurate control of different harmonics in a highly programmable and dynamic fashion, enabling unusual responses, such as velocity illusion. As a relevant application, we propose and realize a novel architecture for wireless communication systems based on the time-domain digital-coding metasurface, which largely simplifies the architecture of modern communication systems, at the same time yielding excellent performance for real-time signal transmission. 3Wireless Communications with Programmable Metasurface:Transceiver Design and Experimental Results显示文摘Metasurfaces have drawn significant attentions due to their superior capability in tailoring electromagnetic waves with a wide frequency range, from microwave to visible light. Recently, programmable metasurfaces have demonstrated the ability of manipulating the amplitude or phase of electromagnetic waves in a programmable manner in real time, which renders them especially appealing in the applications of wireless communications. In this paper, we present the fundamental principle of applying programmable metasurface as transmitter for wireless communications. Then, we establish a prototype system of metasurface-based transmitter to conduct several experiments and measurements over the air, which practically demonstrate the feasibility of using programmable metasurfaces in future communication systems. By exploiting the dynamically controllable property of programmable metasurface, the design, implementation and experimental evaluation of the proposed metasurface-based wireless communication system are presented with the prototype, which realizes single carrier quadrature phase shift keying(QPSK) transmission over the air. In the developed prototype, the phase of the reflected electromagnetic wave of programma-ble metasurface is directly manipulated in real time according to the baseband control signal, which achieves 2.048 Mbps data transfer rate with video streaming transmission over the air. In addition, experimental result is provided to compare the performance of the proposed metasurface-based architecture against the conventional one. With the slight increase of the transmit power by 5 dB, the same bit error rate(BER) performance can be achieved as the conventional system in the absence of channel coding. 5Smart metasurface with self-adaptively reprogrammable functions显示文摘Intelligence at either the material or metamaterial level is a goal that researchers have been pursuing.From passive to active,metasurfaces have been developed to be programmable to dynamically and arbitrarily manipulate electromagnetic(EM)wavefields.However,the programmable metasurfaces require manual control to switch among different functionalities.Here,we put forth a smart metasurface that has self-adaptively reprogrammable functionalities without human participation.The smart metasurface is capable of sensing ambient environments by integrating an additional sensor(s)and can adaptively adjust its EM operational functionality through an unmanned sensing feedback system.As an illustrative example,we experimentally develop a motion-sensitive smart metasurface integrated with a three-axis gyroscope,which can adjust self-adaptively the EM radiation beams via different rotations of the metasurface.We develop an online feedback algorithm as the control software to make the smart metasurface achieve single-beam and multibeam steering and other dynamic reactions adaptively.The proposed metasurface is extendable to other physical sensors to detect the humidity,temperature,illuminating light,and so on.Our strategy will open up a new avenue for future unmanned devices that are consistent with the ambient environment.Qian Ma Guo Dong Bai Hong Bo Jing Cheng Yang Lianlin Li Tie Jun Cui 2019Light(Science & Applications)2019,8,1:13
6Accurate and broadband manipulations of harmonic amplitudes and phases to reach 256 QAM millimeter-wave wireless communications by time-domain digital coding metasurface显示文摘We propose a theoretical mechanism and new coding strategy to realize extremely accurate manipulations of nonlinear electromagnetic harmonics in ultrawide frequency band based on a time-domain digital coding metasurface(TDCM).Using the proposed mechanism and coding strategy,we design and fabricate a millimeter-wave(mmWave) TDCM,which is composed of reprogrammable meta-atoms embedded with positive-intrinsic-negative diodes.By controlling the duty ratios and time delays of the digital coding sequences loaded on a TDCM,experimental results show that both amplitudes and phases of different harmonics can be engineered at will simultaneously and precisely in broad frequency band from 22 to33 GHz,even when the coding states are imperfect,which is in good agreement with theoretical calculations.Based on the fabricated high-performance TDCM,we further propose and experimentally realize a large-capacity mmWave wireless communication system,where 256 quadrature amplitude modulation,along with other schemes,is demonstrated.The new wireless communication system has a much simpler architecture than the currently used mmWave wireless systems,and hence can significantly reduce the hardware cost.We believe that the proposed method and system architecture can find vast application in future mmWave and terahertz-wave wireless communication and radar systems.Ming Zheng Chen Wankai Tang Jun Yan Dai Jun Chen Ke Lei Zhang Cheng Zhang Jin Yang Lianlin Li Qiang Cheng Shi Jin Tie Jun Cui 2022National Science Review2022,9,1:13
7Characterizing a large outbreak of dengue fever in Guangdong Province, China显示文摘Background:Dengue cases have been reported each year for the past 25 years in Guangdong Province,China with a recorded historical peak in 2014.This study aims to describe the epidemiological characteristics of this large outbreak in order to better understand its epidemic factors and to inform control strategies.Methods:Data for clinically diagnosed and laboratory-confirmed dengue fever cases in 2014 were extracted from the China Notifiable Infectious Disease Reporting System.We analyzed the incidence and characteristics of imported and indigenous cases in terms of population,temporal and spatial distributions.Results:A total of 45224 dengue fever cases and 6 deaths were notified in Guangdong Province in 2014,with an incidence of 47.3 per 100000 people.The elderly(65+years)represented 11.7%of total indigenous cases with the highest incidence(72.3 per 100000).Household workers and the unemployed accounted for 23.1%of indigenous cases.The majority of indigenous cases occurred in the 37th to 44th week of 2014(September and October)and almost all(20 of 21)prefecture-level cities in Guangdong were affected.Compared to the non-Pearl River Delta Region,the Pearl River Delta Region accounted for the majority of dengue cases and reported cases earlier in 2014.Dengue virus serotypes 1(DENV-1),2(DENV-2)and 3(DENV-3)were detected and DENV-1 was predominant(88.4%).Conclusions:Dengue fever is a serious public health problem and is emerging as a continuous threat in Guangdong Province.There is an urgent need to enhance dengue surveillance and control,especially for the high-risk populations in high-risk areas.Jian-Peng Xiao Jian-Feng He Ai-Ping Deng Hua-Liang Lin Tie Song Zhi-Qiang Peng Xiao-Cheng Wu Tao Liu Zhi-Hao Li Shannon Rutherford Wei-Lin Zeng Xing Li Wen-Jun Ma Yong-Hui Zhang 2016Infectious Diseases of Poverty2016,5,1:13

10Interference-assisted kaleidoscopic meta-plexer for arbitrary spin-wavefront manipulation显示文摘Achieving simultaneous polarization and wavefront control,especially circular polarization with the auxiliary degree of freedom of light and spin angular momentum,is of fundamental importance in many optical applications.Interferences are typically undesirable in highly integrated photonic circuits and metasurfaces.Here,we propose an interference-assisted metasurface-multiplexer(meta-plexer)that counterintuitively exploits constructive and destructive interferences between hybrid meta-atoms and realizes independent spin-selective wavefront manipulation.Such kaleidoscopic meta-plexers are experimentally demonstrated via two types of single-layer spinwavefront multiplexers that are composed of spatially rotated anisotropic meta-atoms.One type generates a spinselective Bessel-beam wavefront for spin-down light and a low scattering cross-section for stealth for spin-up light.The other type demonstrates versatile control of the vortex wavefront,which is also characterized by the orbital angular momentum of light,with frequency-switchable numbers of beams under linearly polarized wave excitation.Our findings offer a distinct interference-assisted concept for realizing advanced multifunctional photonics with arbitrary and independent spin-wavefront features.A variety of applications can be readily anticipated in optical diodes,isolators,and spin-Hall meta-devices without cascading bulky optical elements.He-Xiu Xu Guangwei Hu Ying Li Lei Han Jianlin Zhao Yunming Sun Fang Yuan Guang-Ming Wang Zhi Hao Jiang Xiaohui Ling Tie Jun Cui Cheng-Wei Qiu 2019Light(Science & Applications)2019,8,1:11
11Study of Serum Metabonomics and Formula-Pattern Correspondence in Coronary Heart Disease Patients Diagnosed as Phlegm or Blood Stasis Pattern Based on Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry显示文摘Objectives: To study the characteristics of serum metabonomics in coronary heart disease(CHD) patients diagnosed as phlegm or blood stasis pattern and explore effects of formula-pattern correspondence treatment. Methods: A total of 102 stable CHD patients were enrolled and divided into phlegm group(P group, n=52) and blood stasis group(BS group, n=50) according to pattern identification. Gualou Xiebai Banxia Decoction(瓜蒌薤白半夏汤, GXBD) and Xuefu Zhuyu Decoction(血府逐瘀汤, XZD) were used as drug interventions. Relevant indicators of metabonomics were observed by ultra performance liquid chromatography mass spectrometry(UPLC-MS) and pattern recognition. Results: Levels of amino acids and phosphatidylethanolamine(PE) in the CHD group were much higher than those in healthy control group, while the levels of unsaturated fatty acids, sphingosine, Lyso, phosphatidylcholine(PC) were significantly lower(P<0.01). Most of the differential metabolites between the CHD and the healthy groups were also common metabolites of phlegm and blood stasis. 7(Z), 10(Z)-hexadecadienoic acid and DPA were decreased in the P group and increased in the BS group. According to the quantity of retraced metabolites, improvement in metabonomics by formula-pattern correspondence was superior to that without correspondence in the BS group. Based on the varieties of metabolites, GXBD could improve the levels of docosapentaenoic acid(DPA), sphingomyelin(SM)(d34:1), and L-Lactic acid and XZD could ameliorate the levels of sphingosine and Vit E in the P group. In the BS group, GXBD could improve vitamin E level and XZD could make improvements in the levels of octadecanoic acid, phosphoglycerol, and SM(d34:1). Conclusions: Phlegm and blood stasis in CHD patients present specific differential metabolites, and share common metabolites. Remarkable differences have been displayed in pathological properties and severity of phlegm and blood stasis. Patients with phlegm are more likely to have lipid metabolism disorders. However, in patients with blood stasis, problems mainly lie in glucose, protein and fat metabolism and the injury of vascular cell membrane is relatively severe. The metabolic disorder is more complicated in blood stasis pattern than that in phlegm pattern. 13Effect of atmospheric aerosol on surface ozone variation over the Pearl River Delta region显示文摘Our analysis of the surface aerosol and ultraviolet(UV) measurements in Pearl River Delta(PRD) region shows that the sur-face UV radiation is reduced by more than 50% due to high aerosol concentrations.This has important impacts on urban eco-system and photochemistry,especially on ozone photochemical production over the region.The quantitative effect of aerosols on surface ozone is evaluated by analyzing surface observations(including ozone,ultraviolet radiation,aerosol radiative pa-rameters) and by using radiative and chemical models.A case study shows that the aerosol concentrations and UV radiation are significantly correlated with ozone concentrations.The correlation coefficient between the aerosol optical depth(AOD) and the PM10 mass concentration is very high,with a maximum of 0.98,and the AOD and UV radiation/ozone is anti-correlated,with a correlation coefficient of -0.90.The analysis suggests that ozone productivity is significantly decreased due to the reduction of UV radiation.The noon-time ozone maximum is considerably depressed when AOD is 0.6,and is further decreased when AOD is up to 1.2 due to the reduction of ozone photochemical productivity.Because the occurring probability of aerosol optical depth for AOD550 nm≥0.6 and AOD340 nm≥1.0 is 47,and 55% respectively during the dry season(October,November,December,January),this heavy aerosol condition explains the low ozone maximum that often occurs in the dry season over the Guangzhou region.The analysis also suggests that the value of single scattering albedo(SSA) is very sensitive to the aerosol radiative effect when the radiative and chemical models are applied,implying that the value of SSA needs to be carefully studied when the models are used in calculating ozone production.DENG XueJiao ZHOU XiuJi WU Dui TIE XueXi TAN HaoBo LI Fei BI XueYan DENG Tao JIANG DeHai 2011Science China Earth Sciences2011,54,5:10
14Rock fragmentation mechanisms and an experimental study of drilling tools during high-frequency harmonic vibration显示文摘Resonance drilling is a new technology,still at the laboratory stage.It has great potential to improve rock fragmentation efficiency.We analyzed the amplitude-frequency characteristics of steady-state mechanical vibration excited by harmonic vibration in rocks and an apparatus was built to achieve high frequency vibration of rock.The influence of rock drillability,rotary speed,excitation frequency,and other parameters on the rate of penetration(ROP) in resonance drilling was analyzed.The results show that the rock drillability decreased with an increase in excitation frequency.When drilling with a large size drill bit,the ROP increased with excitation frequency.The ROP reached a maximum value at the resonant frequency of the rock.The ROP of the bit increased linearly with rotary speed when no vibration was applied on the rock and increased approximately exponentially when harmonic vibration was applied.In addition,the resonant frequency of the rock was changing during the process of rock fragmentation,so in order to achieve the desired resonance of the rock,it is necessary to determine an appropriate harmonic vibration excitation frequency.Li Wei Yan Tie Li Siqi Zhang Xiaoning 2013Petroleum Science2013,10,2:9
15Analysis of the causes of heavy aerosol pollution in Beijing,China:A case study with the WRF-Chem model显示文摘The causes and variability of a heavy haze episode in the Beijing region was analyzed.During the episode,the PM2.5 concentration reached a peak value of 450 μg/kg on January 18,2013 and rapidly decreased to100 μg/kg on January 19,2013,characterizing a large variability in a very short period.This strong variability provides a good opportunity to study the causes of the haze formation.The in situ measurements(including surface meteorological data and vertical structures of the winds,temperature,humidity,and planetary boundary layer(PBL)) together with a chemical/dynamical regional model(WRF-Chem) were used for the analysis.In order to understand the rapid variability of the PM2.5 concentration in the episode,the correlation between the measured meteorological data(including wind speed,PBL height,relative humidity,etc.) and the measured particle concentration(PM2.5 concentration) was studied.In addition,two sensitive model experiments were performed to study the effect of individual contribution from local emissions and regional surrounding emissions to the heavy haze formation.The results suggest that there were two major meteorological factors in controlling the variability of the PM2.5 concentration,namely,surface wind speed and PBL height.During high wind periods,the horizontal transport of aerosol particles played an important role,and the heavy haze was formed when the wind speeds were very weak(less than 1 m/s).Under weak wind conditions,the horizontal transport of aerosol particles was also weak,and the vertical mixing of aerosol particles played an important role.As a result,the PBL height was a major factor in controlling the variability of the PM_(2.5) concentration.Under the shallow PBL height,aerosol particles were strongly confined near the surface,producing a high surface PM_(2.5) concentration.The sensitivity model study suggests that the local emissions(emissions from the Beijing region only)were the major cause for the heavy haze events.With only local emissions,the calculated peak value of the PM_(2.5) concentration was 350 μg/kg,which accounted for 78%of the measured peak value(450 μg/kg).In contrast,without the local emissions,the calculated peak value of the PM_(2.5) concentration was only100 μg/kg,which accounted for 22%of the measured peak value.Hui He Xuexi Tie Qiang Zhang Xiange Liu Qian Gao Xia Li Yang Gao 2015Particuology2015,13,3:9
16Percent free prostate-specific antigen for prostate cancer diagnosis in Chinese men with a PSA of 4.0-10.0 ng/mL:Results from the Chinese Prostate Cancer Consortium显示文摘Objective:To test the diagnostic performance of percent free prostate-specific antigen(%fPSA)in predicting any prostate cancer(PCa)and high-grade prostate cancer(HGPCa)in a retrospective multi-center biopsy cohort with a PSA level of 4.0e10.0 ng/mL in China.Methods:Consecutive patients with a PSA of 4.0-10.0 ng/mL who underwent transrectal ultrasound-guided biopsy were enrolled at 16 Chinese medical centers from January 1st,2010 to December 31st,2013.Total and free serum PSA determinations were performed using three types of electro-chemiluminescence immunoassays recalibrated to the World Health Organization(WHO)standard.The diagnostic accuracy of PSA,%fPSA,and %fPSA in combination with PSA(%fPSA t PSA)was determined using the area under the receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve(AUC).Results:A total of 2310 consecutive men with PSA levels between 4.0 and 10.0 ng/mL were included,and the detection rate of PCa was 25.1%.The AUC of%fPSA and %fPSA t PSA in predicting any PCa was superior to PSA alone in men aged≥60 years(0.623 vs.0.534,p<0.0001)but not in men aged 40e59 years(0.517 vs.0.518,p=0.939).Similar result was yield in predicting HGPCa.Conclusion:In a clinical setting of Chinese men with 4.0e10.0 ng/mL PSA undergoing initial prostate biopsy,adding %fPSA to PSA can moderately improve the diagnostic accuracy for any PCa and HGPCa compared with PSA alone in patients≥60 but not in patients aged 40-59 years.Rui Chen Liping Xie Xiaobing Cai Yiran Huang Liqun Zhou Lulin Ma Xu Gao Chuanliang Xu Shancheng Ren Pengfei Shao Danfeng Xu Kexin Xu Zhangqun Ye Chunxiao Liu Dingwei Ye Li Lu Qiang Fu Jianquan Hou Jianlin Yuan Dalin He Tie Zhou Fubo Wang Biming He Yinghao Sun 2015Asian Journal of Urology2015,2,2:8

18Intelligent coding metasurface holograms by physics-assisted unsupervised generative adversarial network显示文摘Intelligent coding metasurface is a kind of information-carrying metasurface that can manipulate electromagnetic waves and associate digital information simultaneously in a smart way.One of its widely explored applications is to develop advanced schemes of dynamic holographic imaging.By now,the controlling coding sequences of the metasurface are usually designed by performing iterative approaches,including the Gerchberg–Saxton(GS)algorithm and stochastic optimization algorithm,which set a large barrier on the deployment of the intelligent coding metasurface in many practical scenarios with strong demands on high efficiency and capability.Here,we propose an efficient non-iterative algorithm for designing intelligent coding metasurface holograms in the context of unsupervised conditional generative adversarial networks(cGANs),which is referred to as physics-driven variational auto-encoder(VAE)cGAN(VAE-cGAN).Sharply different from the conventional cGAN with a harsh requirement on a large amount of manual-marked training data,the proposed VAE-cGAN behaves in a physics-driving way and thus can fundamentally remove the difficulties in the conventional cGAN.Specifically,the physical operation mechanism between the electric-field distribution and metasurface is introduced to model the VAE decoding module of the developed VAE-cGAN.Selected simulation and experimental results have been provided to demonstrate the state-of-the-art reliability and high efficiency of our VAE-cGAN.It could be faithfully expected that smart holograms could be developed by deploying our VAE-cGAN on neural network chips,finding more valuable applications in communication,microscopy,and so on.Che Liu Wen Ming Yu Qian Ma Lianlin Li Tie Jun Cui 2021Photonics Research2021,9,4:7
19FOXO1 inhibition potentiates endothelial angiogenic functions in diabetes via suppression of ROCK1/Drp1-mediated mitochondrial fission显示文摘OBJECTIVE Diabetes-induced endothelial cell(EC) dysfunction and neovasculariza.tion impairment constitute vascular complications with limited treatment regimens.Transcription factor FOXO1 is a key angiogenic regulator and plays a pathologic role in progression of diabetes.The pres.ent study was designed to determine the involvement of FOXO1 in impaired EC function and post-isch.emic neovascularization in diabetes and investigate underlying mechanisms.RESULTS We found that FOXO1-selective inhibitor AS1842856 improved blood flow recovery and capillary density in ischemic hindlimb,and rescued the delay of wound closure with a concomitant augmentation of mean perfusion rate in diabetic mice.In vitro,treatment with AS1842856 or FOXO1 siRNA abrogated high glucose-in.duced apoptosis and ameliorated capillary tube formation in human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HU.VECs).FOXO1 inhibition relieved alterations in mitochondrial networks and significantly suppressed the over production of mitochondrial reactive oxygen species(mtROS) induced by high glucose in ECs.Expression of dynamin-relatedprotein-1(Drp1) and phosphorylation at Ser616,a protein required for mitochondrial fission,were enhanced by hyperglycemia,which could be neutralized by FOXO1 inhibition.Moreover,the transcription of Rho-associated coiled-coil containing protein kinase 1(ROCK1),which phosphorylates Drp1 at Ser616,was shown by luciferase assay to be directly regulated by FOXO1.CONCLUSION These findings suggested that FOXO1 is critical to preserve mitochondrial quantity and func.tion in ECs,and FOXO1 may serve as a therapeutic target for microvascular complications of diabetes.Yun-di SHI Di WANG Xue-jun LI Lu TIE 2018中国药理学与毒理学杂志2018,32,4:7
20Intelligent metasurfaces:control,communication and computing显示文摘Controlling electromagnetic waves and information simultaneously by information metasurfaces is of central importance in modern society.Intelligent metasurfaces are smart platforms to manipulate the wave-information-matter interactions without manual intervention by synergizing engineered ultrathin structures with active devices and algorithms,which evolve from the passive composite materials for tailoring wave-matter interactions that cannot be achieved in nature.Here,we review the recent progress of intelligent metasurfaces in wave-information-matter controls by providing the historical background and underlying physical mechanisms.Then we explore the application of intelligent metasurfaces in developing novel wireless communication architectures,with particular emphasis on metasurface-modulated backscatter wireless communications.We also explore the wave-based computing by using the intelligent metasurfaces,focusing on the emerging research direction in intelligent sensing.Finally,we comment on the challenges and highlight the potential routes for the further developments of the intelligent metasurfaces for controls,communications and computing.Lianlin Li Hanting Zhao Che Liu Long Li Tie Jun Cui 2022eLight2022,2,1:7
