| 1 | Relationship between intestinal microbial dysbiosis and primary liver cancer显示文摘Background: Intestinal microbial dysbiosis is involved in liver disease pathogenesis. However, its role in primary liver cancer(PLC), particularly in hepatocarcinogenesis remains unclear. The present study aimed to study the changes in intestinal flora at various stages of PLC and clarify the relationship between intestinal microbes and PLC. Methods: Twenty-four patients with PLC(PLC group), 24 patients with liver cirrhosis(LC group), and 23 healthy control individuals(HC group) were enrolled from October 2016 to October 2017. Stool specimens of the participants were collected and the genomic DNA of fecal bacteria was isolated. High-throughput pyrosequencing of 16 S r DNA was used to identify differences in gut bacterial diversity among HC, LC, and PLC groups. We also analyzed the relationship between clinical factors and intestinal microorganisms in LC and PLC groups. Results: Diversity of Firmicutes tended to decrease from the HC to LC and PLC groups at the phylum level. Among species, Enterobacter ludwigii displayed an increasing trend in the PLC group, wherein the relative abundance of Enterobacter ludwigii in the PLC group was 100 times greater than that in the HC and LC groups. The ratio of Firmicutes/Bacteroidetes was significantly decreased with the disease progression. In addition, the linear discriminant analysis effect size method indicated that Clostridia were predominant in the gut microbiota of the HC group, whereas Enterococcaceae, Lactobacillales, Bacilli and Gammaproteobacteria may be used as diagnostic markers of PLC. Redundancy analysis showed a correlation between intestinal microbial diversity and clinical factors AST, ALT, and AFP. Veillonella showed a significant positive correlation with AFP in the PLC group, whereas Subdoligranulum showed a negative correlation with AFP. | 4 | Insight-HXMT observations of the first binary neutron star merger GW170817显示文摘Finding the electromagnetic(EM) counterpart of binary compact star merger, especially the binary neutron star(BNS) merger,is critically important for gravitational wave(GW) astronomy, cosmology and fundamental physics. On Aug. 17, 2017,Advanced LIGO and Fermi/GBM independently triggered the first BNS merger, GW170817, and its high energy EM counterpart,GRB 170817 A, respectively, resulting in a global observation campaign covering gamma-ray, X-ray, UV, optical, IR, radio as well as neutrinos. The High Energy X-ray telescope(HE) onboard Insight-HXMT(Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope) is the unique high-energy gamma-ray telescope that monitored the entire GW localization area and especially the optical counterpart(SSS17 a/AT2017 gfo) with very large collection area(~1000 cm^2) and microsecond time resolution in 0.2-5 MeV. In addition,Insight-HXMT quickly implemented a Target of Opportunity(ToO) observation to scan the GW localization area for potential X-ray emission from the GW source. Although Insight-HXMT did not detect any significant high energy(0.2-5 MeV) radiation from GW170817, its observation helped to confirm the unexpected weak and soft nature of GRB 170817 A. Meanwhile,Insight-HXMT/HE provides one of the most stringent constraints(~10^(-7) to 10^(-6) erg/cm^2/s) for both GRB170817 A and any other possible precursor or extended emissions in 0.2-5 MeV, which help us to better understand the properties of EM radiation from this BNS merger. | 5 | Climatic significance of the stable carbon isotope composition of tree-ring cellulose:Comparison of Chinese hemlock (Tsuga chinensis Pritz) and alpine pine (Pinus densata Mast) in a temperate-moist region of China显示文摘In the reconstruction of past climate using stable carbon isotope composition (δ13C) in tree ring,the responses of the stable carbon composition (δ13C) of multiple tree species to environmental factors must be known detailedly. This study presented two δ13C series in annual tree rings for Chinese hem-lock (Tsuga chinensis Pritz) and alpine pine (Pinus densata Mast),and investigated the relationships between climatic parameters and stable carbon discrimination (△13C) series,and evaluated the poten-tial of climatic reconstruction using △13C in both species,in a temperate-moist region of Chuanxi Pla-teau,China. The raw δ13C series of the two species was inconsistent,which may be a result of different responses caused by tree's inherent physiological differences. After removing the low-frequency ef-fects of CO2 concentration,the high-frequency (year-to-year) inter-series correlation of △13C was strong,indicating that △13C of the two tree species were controlled by common environmental conditions. The △13C series of the species were most significantly correlated with temperature and moisture stress,but in different periods and intensity between the species. During the physiological year,the impacts of temperature and moisture stress on △13C occur earlier for Chinese hemlock (previous December to February for moisture stress and February to April for temperature,respectively) than for alpine pine (March to May for moisture stress and April to July for temperature,respectively). In addition,in temperate-moist regions,the control on △13C of single climatic parameter was not strongly dominant and the op-timal multiple regressions functions just explained the 38.5% variance of the total. | 6 | Distribution and treatment of harmful gas from heavy oil production in the Liaohe Oilfield, Northeast China显示文摘The distribution and treatment of harmful gas (H 2 S) in the Liaohe Oilfield, Northeast China, were investigated in this study. It was found that abundant toxic gas (H 2 S) is generated in thermal recovery of heavy oil. The H 2 S gas is mainly formed during thermochemical sulfate reduction (TSR) occurring in oil reservoirs or the thermal decomposition of sulfocompounds (TDS) in crude oil. H 2 S generation is controlled by thermal recovery time, temperature and the injected chemical compounds. The quantity of SO 4 2-in the injected compounds is the most influencing factor for the rate of TSR reaction. Therefore, for prevention of H 2 S formation, periodic and effective monitoring should be undertaken and adequate H 2 S absorbent should also be provided during thermal recovery of heavy oil. The result suggests that great efforts should be made to reduce the SO 4 2-source in heavy oil recovery, so as to restrain H 2 S generation in reservoirs. In situ burning or desulfurizer adsorption are suggested to reduce H 2 S levels. Prediction and prevention of H 2 S are important in heavy oil production. | 9 | Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor protects mice against hepatocellular carcinoma by ameliorating intestinal dysbiosis and attenuating inflammation显示文摘BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is the third leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide.The gut microbiota can help maintain healthy metabolism and immunity.Granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor(GM-CSF)is a critical factor in promoting health and homeostasis;it promotes intestinal immunity,stimulates bone marrow precursors to generate macrophage colonies,and enhances the antibacterial and antitumor activity of circulating monocytes.As such,GM-CSF may protect against HCC development by regulating immunity as well as intestinal microecology.AIM To investigate the impact of GM-CSF on the gut microbiome and metabolic characteristics of HCC.METHODS Thirty-six male BALB/c nude mice were divided into three groups:Control(n=10),HCC(n=13),and HCC+GM-CSF(GM-CSF overexpression,n=13).We utilized HCC cells to establish orthotopic transplantation tumor models of HCC with normal and over-expressing GM-CSF.Liver injury,immune inflammatory function and intestinal barrier function were evaluated.The fecal microbiome and metabolome were studied using 16S rRNA absolute quantification sequencing and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry.RESULTS GM-CSF overexpression significantly affected the gut microbiome of mice with HCC and resulted in a high abundance of organisms of the genera Roseburia,Blautia and Butyricimonass,along with a significant reduction in Prevotella,Parabacteroides,Anaerotruncus,Streptococcus,Clostridium,and Mucispirillum.Likewise,GM-CSF overexpression resulted in a substantial increase in fecal biotin and oleic acid levels,along with a prominent decrease in the fecal succinic acid,adenosine,fumaric acid,lipoic acid,and maleic acid levels.Correlation analysis revealed that the intestinal microbiota and fecal metabolites induced by GM-CSF were primarily involved in pathways related to reducing the inflammatory response,biotin metabolism,and intestinal barrier dysfunction.CONCLUSION GM-CSF can protect against HCC development by regulating immunity and modulating the abundance of specific intestinal microorganisms and their metabolites.This study provides new insights into the therapeutic approaches for HCC. | Yong-Na Wu Lei Zhang Tuo Chen Xun Li Li-Hong He Guang-Xiu Liu | 2020 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2020,26,36: | 4 |

The debris flow is the most severe event of the same kind of disasters in the past sixty years in China, which caused great losses of people's lives and properties. Based on field investigation, remote sensing image interpretation and analysis of local climatological data, the local topographical conditions, active tectonic movement, massive debris source and torrential rains were the main formation causes which induced the catastrophic debris flows. Moreover, detailed geological surveys were carried out following the disaster, the other geological potential hazard sites were found out, and the geological and seismic hazard assessment has been put into practice. | 13 | Novel TRPM1 mutations in two Chinese families with early-onset high myopia, with or without complete congenital stationary night blindness显示文摘AIM:To investigate the relationship between high myopia [with or without complete congenital stationary night blindness(CSNB1)] and TRPM1 and NYX.METHODS: Two unrelated families with early-onset high myopia(eo HM) and 96 normal controls were recruited.Sanger sequencing or clone sequencing were used for mutation screening.Further analyses of the available family members and the 96 normal controls were subsequently conducted to obtain additional evidence of the pathogenicity of these variants.The initial diagnosis of the probands was eo HM.We performed a further comprehensive examination of the available family members after mutations were detected in TRPM1 or NYX. | 15 | Experimental investigation on the radiation background inside body counters显示文摘In vivo measurement of radioactivity based on various body counters is arguably the leading measure used to determine the distribution and activity of radionuclides in human subjects,such as I-131 in the thyroid,Am-241 in the lungs,and Pb-210 in the skull.Throughout the measurements,the radiation background is the key factor that determines the sensitivity of the counter.Therefore,to facilitate in vivo measurements,a well-designed shielding room is required to create a low-background environment.However,because the compositions of the radiation background are quite complicated,the respective contributions from each source remain obscure,which places a considerable burden on seeking an optimized design of shielding rooms that strikes the optimum balance between the construction cost and background suppression effect.In this study,we conducted a systematic experimental investigation on the radiation background outside and inside four representative body counters with assorted designs using a variety of radiation detectors,including high-purity germanium detectors,CdZnTe detector,radon emanometer,and gamma-ray dosimeter.By carefully controlling the experimental conditions and synergetic analysis of the measurement results,in conjunction with previous studies,we separated and determined the relative contributions induced by environmental radiation(4%),airborne radon and its daughters(2%),the normal radioactivity of human subjects arising from K-40(58%),cosmic rays(12%),and radioactivity in shielding materials and measuring instruments(24%).Furthermore,based on these results,we discuss practical guidelines to design a shielding room for body counters. | Yu Wang Yuan-Yuan Liu Bin Wu Xiang-Peng Meng Jian-Ping Cheng Ying Wang Li-Jiao Wang Yun-Shi Xiao Qin-Jian Cao Jian-Feng Zhang Fei Tuo | 2022 | Nuclear Science and Techniques2022,33,2: | 2 |

First atmospheric turbulence observation at Antarctic Taishan Station显示文摘This is the second paper of a series devoted to atmospheric optical turbulence C2 n observation using a mobile polar atmospheric parameter measurement system. We present the initial results of C2 n measurement at Antarctic Taishan Station using micro-thermal sensors and a three-dimensional sonic anemometer at height ~2.0 m above the snow surface. The site testing experiments were carried out during the 30 th Chinese National Antarctic Research Expedition(CHINARE). We collected about 1 000 h of data between 30 December 2013 and 10 February 2014. The C2 n curve exhibits clear daily structures, with two peaks around midnight and midday and two troughs around 7:30 and 17:00 local time(UTC+5). The mean C2 n is 2.7×10-15 m-2/3 and the 25 th and 75 th percentiles of the C215 n cumulative distribution are 9.6×10-16 m-2/3 and 6.2×10- m-2/3, respectively. | 18 | Unexplained abdominal pain due to a fish bone penetrating the gastric antrum and migrating into the neck of the pancreas: A case report显示文摘BACKGROUND Ingestion of foreign bodies results in gastrointestinal perforation in approximately 1% of patients,and fish bones are the objects that most commonly lead to bowel perforation. When it does occur,the terminal ileum is the most common site of perforation,followed by the duodenal C-loop. However,involvement of the pancreas is very rare. Because clinical symptoms are nonspecific and gastrointestinal perforation may present as only odynophagia or abdominal pain,a definite preoperative diagnosis and clinical intervention may be delayed.CASE SUMMARY We report the case of a 32-year-old man who presented to our hospital because of abdominal pain that had worsened over 5 d. He had no significant past history except that he had eaten fish 1 wk previously. Upper endoscopy revealed an irregular submucosal tumor on the front wall of the gastric antrum. Endoscopic ultrasonography and computed tomography showed a fish bone penetrating the gastric antrum and migratingin to the neck of the pancreas. | 19 | Elevated preoperative CA125 is associated with poor survival in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer undergoing primary tumor resection:a retrospective cohort study显示文摘Background The impact of the preoperative carbohydrate antigen 125(CA125)level on the survival of metastatic colorectal cancer(CRC)patients undergoing primary tumor resection(PTR)remains uncertain.The aim of this study was to assess the prognostic value in overall survival(OS)and cancer-specific survival(CSS)between patients with and without an elevated preoperative CA125 level.Methods All metastatic CRC patients receiving PTR between 2007 and 2017 at the Sixth Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University(Guangzhou,China)were retrospectively included.OS and CSS rates were compared between patients with and without elevated preoperative CA125 levels.Results Among 326 patients examined,46(14.1%)exhibited elevated preoperative CA125 levels and the remaining 280(85.9%)had normal preoperative CA125 levels.Patients with elevated preoperative CA125 levels had lower body mass index,lower preoperative albumin level,lower proportion of preoperative chemotherapy,higher carcinoembryonic antigen and carbohydrate antigen 19–9(CA19–9)levels,poorer differentiation,and more malignant histopathological type than patients with normal preoperative CA125 levels.In addition,patients with elevated preoperative CA125 levels exhibited more advanced pathological T and N stages,more peritoneal metastasis,and more vessel invasion than patients with normal preoperative CA125 levels.Moreover,the primary tumor was more likely to be located at the colon rather than at the rectum in patients with elevated CA125 levels.Both OS and CSS rates in patients with elevated preoperative CA125 levels were significantly lower than those in patients with normal preoperative CA125 levels.Multivariate Cox regression analysis revealed that an elevated preoperative CA125 level was significantly associated with poor prognosis in metastatic CRC patients undergoing PTR.The hazard ratio(HR)in OS was 2.36(95%confidence interval[CI],1.67–3.33,P<0.001)and the HR in CSS was 2.50(95%CI,1.77–3.55,P<0.001).The survival analysis stratified by peritoneal metastasis also demonstrated that patients with elevated preoperative CA125 levels had lower OS and CSS rates regardless of peritoneal metastasis.Conclusion Based on an analysis of metastatic CRC patients undergoing PTR,an elevated preoperative CA125 level was associated with poor prognosis,which should be taken into consideration in clinical practice. | Jun-Hua Huang Hua-Shan Liu Tuo Hu Zong-Jin Zhang Xiao-Wen He Tai-Wei Mo Xiao-Feng Wen Ping Lan Lei Lian Xian-Rui Wu | 2022 | Gastroenterology Report2022,10,1: | 2 |
| 20 | Clinical Predictors for Diagnosing Pandemic (H1N1) 2009 and Seasonal Influenza (H3N2) in Fever Clinics in Beijing,China显示文摘Objective Symptomatic predictors of influenza could assess risks and improve decisions about isolation and outpatient treatment.To develop such predictors,we undertook a prospective analysis of pandemic (H1N1) 2009 and seasonal influenza (H3N2) in patients attending fever clinics.Methods From 1 May 2009 to 1 January 2010,all adult patients admitted to fever clinics for suspected influenza,confirmed by real time RT-PCR,were enrolled.Predictors of influenza virus infection were selected with logistic regression models.Measures of sensitivity,specificity,positive and negative likelihood ratios (LRs) were calculated to identify the best predictors.Results The clinical features and routine blood test results of influenza (H1N1) 2009 and seasonal influenza were similar.The positive and negative LRs of current US CDC influenza-like illness (ILI) criteria were modest in predicting influenza infection.Our modified clinic predictors improved the ability of the positive and negative LRs to recognize pandemic (H1N1) 2009 and seasonal influenza.The revised criteria are:fever ≥38℃ accompanied by at least one of the following—cough,arthralgia or relative lymphopenia.Conclusion Patients with symptoms and signs that meet the new criteria are likely to have influenza and timely antiviral therapy may be appropriate.In addition,physicians should ascertain if influenza is circulating within the community or if there is a contact history of influenza and combine this information with the newly developed criteria to clinically diagnose influenza. | DAI Xiao Qiu LIU Min ZHANG Tuo Hong YANG Xue Song LI Song Lin LI Xiao Guang LI Yu Ling KADEERBAI Hai San WU Huang | 2012 | Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,1: | 2 |
