| 5 | Carbon pools and fluxes in the China Seas and adjacent oceans显示文摘The China Seas include the South China Sea, East China Sea, Yellow Sea, and Bohai Sea. Located off the Northwestern Pacific margin, covering 4700000 km^2 from tropical to northern temperate zones, and including a variety of continental margins/basins and depths, the China Seas provide typical cases for carbon budget studies. The South China Sea being a deep basin and part of the Western Pacific Warm Pool is characterized by oceanic features; the East China Sea with a wide continental shelf, enormous terrestrial discharges and open margins to the West Pacific, is featured by strong cross-shelf materials transport; the Yellow Sea is featured by the confluence of cold and warm waters; and the Bohai Sea is a shallow semiclosed gulf with strong impacts of human activities. Three large rivers, the Yangtze River, Yellow River, and Pearl River, flow into the East China Sea, the Bohai Sea, and the South China Sea, respectively. The Kuroshio Current at the outer margin of the Chinese continental shelf is one of the two major western boundary currents of the world oceans and its strength and position directly affect the regional climate of China. These characteristics make the China Seas a typical case of marginal seas to study carbon storage and fluxes. This paper systematically analyzes the literature data on the carbon pools and fluxes of the Bohai Sea,Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea, including different interfaces(land-sea, sea-air, sediment-water, and marginal sea-open ocean) and different ecosystems(mangroves, wetland, seagrass beds, macroalgae mariculture, coral reefs, euphotic zones, and water column). Among the four seas, the Bohai Sea and South China Sea are acting as CO_2 sources, releasing about0.22 and 13.86–33.60 Tg C yr^(-1) into the atmosphere, respectively, whereas the Yellow Sea and East China Sea are acting as carbon sinks, absorbing about 1.15 and 6.92–23.30 Tg C yr^(-1) of atmospheric CO_2, respectively. Overall, if only the CO_2 exchange at the sea-air interface is considered, the Chinese marginal seas appear to be a source of atmospheric CO_2, with a net release of 6.01–9.33 Tg C yr^(-1), mainly from the inputs of rivers and adjacent oceans. The riverine dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) input into the Bohai Sea and Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea are 5.04, 14.60, and 40.14 Tg C yr^(-1),respectively. The DIC input from adjacent oceans is as high as 144.81 Tg C yr^(-1), significantly exceeding the carbon released from the seas to the atmosphere. In terms of output, the depositional fluxes of organic carbon in the Bohai Sea, Yellow Sea, East China Sea, and South China Sea are 2.00, 3.60, 7.40, and 5.92 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. The fluxes of organic carbon from the East China Sea and South China Sea to the adjacent oceans are 15.25–36.70 and 43.93 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. The annual carbon storage of mangroves, wetlands, and seagrass in Chinese coastal waters is 0.36–1.75 Tg C yr^(-1), with a dissolved organic carbon(DOC) output from seagrass beds of up to 0.59 Tg C yr^(-1). Removable organic carbon flux by Chinese macroalgae mariculture account for 0.68 Tg C yr^(-1) and the associated POC depositional and DOC releasing fluxes are 0.14 and 0.82 Tg C yr^(-1), respectively. Thus, in total, the annual output of organic carbon, which is mainly DOC, in the China Seas is 81.72–104.56 Tg C yr^(-1). The DOC efflux from the East China Sea to the adjacent oceans is 15.00–35.00 Tg C yr^(-1). The DOC efflux from the South China Sea is 31.39 Tg C yr^(-1). | 6 | Experimental and numerical study on a micro jet cooling solution for high power LEDs显示文摘An active cooling solution based on close-looped micro impinging jet is proposed for high power light emitting diodes (LEDs). In this system, a micro pump is utilized to enable the fluid circulation, impinging jet is used for heat exchange between LED chips and the present system. To check the feasibility of the present cooling system, the preliminary experiments are conducted without the intention of parameter opti-mization on micro jet device and other system components. The experiment results demonstrate that the present cooling system can achieve good cooling effect. For a 16.4 W input power, the surface temperature of 2 by 2 LED array is just 44.2℃ after 10 min operation, much lower than 112.2℃, which is measured without any active cool-ing techniques at the same input power. Experimental results also show that increase in the flow rate of micro pump will greatly enhance the heat transfer efficiency, how-ever, it will increase power consumption. Therefore, it should have a trade-off be-tween the flow rate and the power consumption. To find a suitable numerical model for next step parameter optimization, numerical simulation on the above experiment system is also conducted in this paper. The comparison between numerical and ex-periment results is presented. For two by two chip array, when the input power is 4 W, the surface average temperature achieved by a steady numerical simulation is 34℃, which is close to the value of 32.8℃ obtained by surface experiment test. | 7 | Meditation promotes insightful problem-solving by keeping people in amindful and alert conscious state显示文摘Although previous studies have shown that sleep can inspire insight,it is still unclear whether meditation can promote insight.Meditation differs from other types of passive rest such as relaxation and sleep because it requires full consciousness andmindfulness of targets such as one's breathing.Forty-eight university students without meditation experience were recruited to learn a simple meditation technique.They were given a list of 10 insight problems to solve (the pre-test session).In this study,we focused on the unsolved problems and examined if they could be successfully solved after a 20min rest interval with or without meditation.Results showed that relative to the control group that listened to Chinese or English words and made a language judgment,the groups who learned meditation successfully solved significantly more failed problems from the pre-test session,providing direct evidence for the role of meditation in promoting insight.Further analysis showed that maintaining amindful and alert state during meditation (raising a hand to report every 10 deep breaths compared to every 100 deep breaths) resulted in more insight regarding the failed items from the pre-test session.This implies that it was watchfulness in meditation,rather than relaxation,that actually contributed to insight.Consistently,in the meditation session or control task,the percentage of alpha waves—a brain index of mental relaxation—was negatively correlated with insight.These results suggest a meditation-based insight-promoting mechanism different from that involved in passive rest such as relaxation and sleep. | REN Jun HUANG ZhiHui LUO Jing WEI GaoXia YING XiaoPing DING ZhiGuang WU YiBin LUO Fei | 2011 | Science China(Life Sciences)2011,54,10: | 11 |

This landslide triggered by earthquake took place in about semi-minute. The relative sliding displacement is 900 meters, so average sliding speed is about 30 meters per second. The longitudinal length of barrier dam which is formed by high-speed landslide along river is 803.4 meters; and maximum width crossing river is 611.8 meters. And its volume is estimated about 20.37 million steres. Through detailed geological investigation of the barrier dam, together with early geological information before earthquake, geological structures of the barrier dam and its stability of upstream and downstream slopes are studied when water level reaches different elevations in condition of continual after shocks with seismic intensity of 7 or 8 Richter scale. On this basis, dam-breaking mode of barrier dam is discussed deeply. | 11 | The efficacy and safety of nimodipine in acute ischemic stroke patients with mild cognitive impairment: a double-blind, randomized,placebo-controlled trial显示文摘Nimodipine might be effective in subcortical vascular dementia(VaD). Its benefit in preventing further cognitive decline in patients with acute ischemic stroke(AIS) and vascular mild cognitive impairment(VaMCI) remains to be established. In this multicenter, double-blind trial, we randomly assigned 654 eligible patients to nimodipine 30 mg three times a day or placebo. The primary outcome was any cognitive decline defined by the changes on the Mini-Mental State Examination(DMMSE à3) or vascular AD assessment scale cognitive subscale(DADAS-cog ! 4) at 6 months. Secondary outcomes included any distribution shift of DADAS-cog, DMMSE or cognitive improvement defined by DADAS-cog à2, or DMMSE ! 0. The primary outcome in the nimodipine group and placebo group were similar for DMMSE à3(4.18% and 7.22%, respectively, P = 0.15) and DADAS-cog ! 4(8.36% and 8.93% respectively,P = 0.88). The distribution shift of DADAS-cog and DMMSE differed significantly between the two groups(P = 0.03 and P = 0.05 respectively). Cognitive improvement occurred in 55.4% in the nimodipine group and 43.6% in the placebo group measured by DADAS-cog à2(Odds Ratio, 1.54; 95% confidence interval[CI] 1.10–2.14, P < 0.01) or 84.0% and 74.6% respectively by DMMSE ! 0(Odds Ratio, 1.79; 95% CI 1.18–2.70, P < 0.01). Nimodipine was associated with better cognitive function in the memory domain. The adverse events rate was similar in two groups. This study is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov,NCT01220622. This paper reports and describes a new arthropod from the yellowish green mudstone at the lower part of the Wulongqing Formation, Canglangpuan Stage, Lower Cambrian in Kunming, Yunnan, China. The stratigraphic and geographic distribution, classification, fossil preservation, life style of this new arthropod and comparisons with other fossil arthropods are also discussed in details. The discovery and research of the non-mineralized arthropod, Guangweicaris Luo, Fu et Hu gen. nov. from the Guanshan Fauna adds new members to the taxonomic list and provides new information to the evolution of early arthropods. | 14 | Influence of nanoparticle concentrations on flow boiling heat transfer coefficients of Al_2O_3/R141b in micro heat exchanger by direct metal laser sintering显示文摘Al_2O_3/R141 b + Span-80 nanorefrigerant for 0.05 wt.% to 0.4 wt.% is prepared by ultrasonic vibration to investigate the influence of nanoparticle concentrations on flow boiling heat transfer of Al_2O_3/R141 b + Span-80 in micro heat exchanger by direct metal laser sintering. Experimental results show that nanoparticle concentrations have significantly impact on heat transfer coefficients by homogeneity test of variances according to mathematical statistics. The heat transfer performance of Al_2O_3/R141 b+ Span-80 nanorefrigerant is enhanced after adding nanoparticles in the pure refrigerant R141 b. The heat transfer coefficients of 0.05 wt.%, 0.1 wt.%, 0.2 wt.%, 0.3 wt.%and 0.4 wt.% Al_2O_3/R141 b + Span-80 nanorefrigerant respectively increase by 55.0%, 72.0%, 53.0%, 42.3% and 39.9% compared with the pure refrigerant R141 b. The particle fluxes from viscosity gradient, non-uniform shear rate and Brownian motion cause particles to migrate in fluid especially in the process of flow boiling. This migration motion enhances heat transfer between nanoparticles and fluid. Therefore, the heat transfer performance of nanofluid is enhanced. It is important to note that the heat transfer coefficients nonlinearly increase with nanoparticle concentrations increasing. The heat transfer coefficients reach its maximum value at the mass concentration of 0.1% and then it decreases slightly. There exists an optimal mass concentration corresponding to the best heat transfer enhancement. The reason for the above phenomenon is attributed to nanoparticles deposition on the minichannel wall by Scanning Electron Microscopy observation. The channel surface wettability increases during the flow boiling experiment in the mass concentration range from 0.2 wt.% to 0.4 wt.%. The channel surface with wettability increasing needs more energy to produce a bubble. Therefore, the heat transfer coefficients decrease with nanoparticle concentrations in the range from 0.2 wt.% to 0.4 wt.%. In addition, a new correlation has been proposed by fitting the experimental data considering the influence of mass concentrations on the heat transfer performance. | 15 | Ultrastructure of focal cerebral cortex tissue from rats with focal cortical dysplasia显示文摘BACKGROUND: Developing a model of focal cortical dysplasia in microgyrus and observing the ultrastructure of focal tissue is of important significance for analyzing the pathology of cortical developmental disorder and the factors of structural changes. OBJECTIVE: This study was to observe the pathological characteristics of focal tissue around the microgyrus of rats with cortical developmental disorder using an electron microscope, so as to analyze the causes associated with cerebral cortical developmental disorder. DESIGN: A randomized controlled animal experiment. SETTING: The First Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University. MATERIALS: This study was carried out in the Chongqing Key Laboratory of Neurology, Room for Electron Microscope of Chongqing Medical University, and Laboratory Animal Center, Research Institute of Surgery, Daping Hospital, Third Military Medical University of Chinese PLA between January 2004 and August 2006. Eighteen healthy newborn male Wistar rats, weighing 3.0-6.0 g, provided by the Laboratory Animal Center, Daping Hospital, Third Military Medical University of Chinese PLA, were involved in this study. The protocol was carried out in accordance with animal ethics guidelines for the use and care of animals. Probes (Chongqing Wire & Cable Factory, China) were made of copper core wire with diameter of 1 mm. METHODS: The rats were randomly divided into 3 groups with 6 in each: normal control group, liquid nitrogen injured group and sham-operation group. ①In the liquid nitrogen injured group, a blunt probe frozen by liquid nitrogen was placed on fronto-parietal crinial bone of rats for 8 s. A 3-5 cm of microgyrus was induced in the unilateral cerebral sensory cortical area. In the sham-operation group, probe was placed at the room temperature. In the normal control group, rats were untouched. ② The conscious state and electrical activity of brain of rats in each group were observed. ③ 2-3 mm thickness of hippocampal tissue with coronary section was taken for observing its ultrastructure under a transmission electron microscope. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: ① The ultrastructure of hippocampal tissue. ②The conscious state and electrical activity of brain of rats. RESULTS: Eighteen rats were enrolled in the final analysis. ① Observation of hippocampal ultrastructure: Electromicroscopic pathological findings showed that for each rat of the liquid nitrogen injured group, mitochondrium in the pyramidal neuron around the microgyrus was swelled, endoplasmic reticulum was expanded, glial cells were swelled, water gathered around the blood capillary, partial medullary sheath was degenerated, neuropilem was normal and no obviously abnormal synapse was found. ② Changes in conscious state of rats: Rats in the normal control group and sham-operation group had no convulsive seizure, but those in the liquid nitrogen injured group had occasionally. Most of them showed increased activities, excitation and restlessness, scratching and frequent ' watching face-like activities'. ③Electrical activity of brain of rats: Electroencephalogram recording of liquid nitrogen injured group showed that small wave amplitude of rhythm took the main part. No typical sharp wave, V wave, sharp and slow wave, V and slow waves were discharged. CONCLUSION: Liquid nitrogen can lead to cerebral cortical developmental disorder. | 17 | Analysis of F_1 hybrid and BC_1 monosomic alien addition line plants from Brassica oleracea × Sinapis alba by GISH显示文摘Sterile and semi-fertile F_1 plants were obtained by intergeneric sexual hybridization between paternal Brassica oleracea var. alboglabra (genome CC, 2n=18) and maternal Sinapis alba (genome SS, 2n=24), BC_1 plants were obtained by backcrossing between paternal B. oleracea and ma-ternal semi-fertile F_1 plants. Genomic in situ hybridization (GISH) combined with dual-colour fluorescence in situ hybridization (dcFISH) showed that sterile F_1 plants contained 21 chromosomes consist-ing of one B. oleracea chromosome set and one S. alba chromosome set, belonging to expected hybrids, and semi-fertile F_1 plants contained 30 chromosomes consisting of two B. oleracea chromosome sets and one S. alba chromosome set. It is obvious that the semi-fertile F_1 plants belong to unexpected hybrids. 1―3 trivalents were detected at meiotic metaphase I of semi-fertile F_1 pollen mother cells (PMCs). Different separation ratios of S chromosomes were detected at anaphase I. A monosomic alien addition line (MAAL) was identified by GISH-dcFISH from BC_1 plants; it contained 19 chromosomes consisting of 18 C chromosomes and 1 S chromosome. At meiotic metaphase I, 9 divalents from B. oleracea and one univalent from S. alba could be detected. Sometimes, one putative C-S trivalent could also be detected. | 18 | The detection of HBV DNA with gold nanoparticle gene probes显示文摘Objective: Gold nanoparticle Hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA probes were prepared, and their application for HBV DNA mea-surement was studied. Methods: Alkanethiol modified oligonucleotide was bound with self-made Au nanoparticles to formnanoparticle HBV DNA gene probes, through covalent binding of Au-S. By using a fluorescence-based method, the number ofthiol-derivatized, single-stranded oligonucleotides and their hybridization efficiency with complementary oligonucleotides in solutionwas determined. With the aid of Au nanoparticle-supported mercapto-modified oligonucleotides serving as detection probes, andoligonucleotides immobilized on a nylon membrane surface acting as capturing probes, HBV DNA was detected visually by sand-wich hybridization based on highly sensitive aggregation and silver staining. The modified nanoparticle HBV DNA gene probeswere also used to detect the HBV DNA extracted from serum in patients with hepatitis B. Results: Compared with bare Aunanoparticles, oligonucleotide modified nanoparticles had a higher stability in NaCl solution or under high temperature environ-ment and the absorbance peak of modified Au nanoparticles shifted from 520nm to 524nm. For Au nanoparticles, the maximaloligonucleotide surface coverage of hexaethiol 30-mer oligonucleotide was (132 ±10) oligonucleotides per nanoparticle, and thepercentage of hybridization strands on nanoparticles was (22 ±3%). Based on a two-probe sandwich hybridization/nanoparticleamplification /silver staining enhancement method, Au nanoparticle gene probes could detect as low as 10-11 mol/L composite HBVDNA molecules on a nylon membrane and the PCR products of HBV DNA visually. As made evident by transmission electron mi-croscopy, the nanoparticles assembled into large network aggregates when nanoparticle HBV DNA gene probes were applied to de-tect HBV DNA molecules in liquid. | 20 | Relationship between Tanlu Fault and Hydrocarbon Accumulation in Liaozhong Sag, Bohai Bay, Eastern China显示文摘Tanlu fault(Liaozhong segment) goes straight through Liaodong Bay along NNE direction and it is divided into three segments, i.e., the northern segment, the middle segment and the southern segment, according to the differences in structural features. There are obvious changes in deposit thickness, sag structure, tectonic nature and other aspects of the layers. Tanlu fault is a special controlling factor concerning the reservoir formation in Liaozhong sag. First, its activities affect paleogeomorphology and paleogeographic framework and control the distribution of the sedimentary facies and then they proceed to control the distribution of the source rock and reservoir sand bodies. Second, its activities affect the formation and deformation of the structure, control the formation of abundant traps and cause the destruction of some traps. Third, its activities also affect the juxtaposition relation among the fault, the sand bodies and unconformity surfaces and control the function and efficacy of the three as the main hydrocarbon translocation system. In this paper the hydrocarbon reservoir formation process of JZ21-1, JX1-1 and LD27-2 oil and gas fields, the representatives of Tanlu strike slip fault zone are mainly analyzed.
