1Regional assessment of cadmium pollution in agricultural lands and the potential health risk related to intensive mining activities: A case study in Chenzhou City, China显示文摘The purpose of this study was to assess the extent of cadmium (Cd) contamination in agricultural soil and its potential risk for people. Soils, rice, and vegetables from Chenzhou City, Southern China were sampled and analyzed. In the surface soils, the 95% confidence interval for the mean concentration of Cd varied between 2.72 and 4.83 mg/kg (P < 0.05) in the survey, with a geometric mean concentration of 1.45 mg/kg. Based on the GIS map, two hot spot areas of Cd in agricultural soils with high Cd concentrations were identified to be located around the Shizhuyuan, Jinshiling, and Yaogangxian mines, and the Baoshan and Huangshaping mines, in the center of the city. About 60% of the total investigated area, where the agricultural soil Cd concentration is above 1 mg/kg, is distributed in a central belt across the region. The critical distances, at which the soil Cd concentration were increased by the mining activities, from the mines of the soils were 23 km for the Baoshan mine, 46 km for the Huangshaping mine, and 63 km for the Shizhuyuan mine, respectively. These are distances calculated from models. The Cd concentrations in rice samples ranged from 0.01 to 4.43 mg/kg and the mean dietary Cd intake from rice for an adult was 191 μg/d. 2Removal of heavy metals and arsenic from a co-contaminated soil by sieving combined with washing process显示文摘Batch experiments were conducted with a heavy metals and arsenic co-contaminated soil from an abandoned mine to evaluate the feasibility of a remediation technology that combines sieving with soil washing.Leaching of the arsenic and heavy metals from the different particle size fractions was found to decrease in the order:< 0.1,2–0.1,and > 2 mm.With increased contact time,the concentration of heavy metals in the leachate was significantly decreased for small particles,probably because of adsorption by the clay soil component.For the different particle sizes,the removal efficiencies for Pb and Cd were75%–87%,and 61%–77% for Zn and Cu,although the extent of removal was decreased for As and Cr at < 45%.The highest efficiency by washing for Pb,Cd,Zn,and As was from the soil particles > 2 mm,although good metal removal efficiencies were also achieved in the small particle size fractions.Through SEM-EDS observations and correlation analysis,the leaching regularity of the heavy metals and arsenic was found to be closely related to Fe,Mn,and Ca contents of the soil fractions.The remediation of heavy metal-contaminated soil by sieving combined with soil washing was proven to be efficient,and practical remediation parameters were also recommended.Xiaoyong Liao You Li Xiulan Yan 2016Journal of Environmental Sciences2016,28,3:19
3Subcellular distribution and compartmentalization of arsenic in Pteris vittata L.显示文摘The subcellular distribution of arsenic (As) in Pteris vittata L., an As-hyperaccumulator, was studied to de- termine As compartmentalization and to explore the mecha- nisms that confer As tolerance. When the plant was grown in a nutrient solution without additional As, most of the accu- mulated As was isolated to the cell wall. However, in plants growing in a nutrient solution containing 0.1 or 0.2 mmol/L As, approximately 78% of the total As accumulated within the pinna. The proportions of As accumulation in the cyto- plasmic supernatant fraction were 78% of that in the pinna and 61% of that in the plant. In either treatment group (0.1 or 0.2 mmol/L As), the fraction containing the lowest level of As was the organelle fraction. These results suggest that As accumulates in the pinna where it is primarily distributed in the cytoplasmic supernatant fraction. 6Visualization of Film Wavelike Characteristics and Measurement of Film Thickness in Spray Cooling显示文摘An experimental investigation was performed to study the heat transfer in an eight-nozzle spray cooling system with de-ionized water as the working fluid. Visualization of the liquid-solid contact area and the flow near the heated surface was made using a microscopic lens system in conjunction with an advanced high-speed camera. The film thickness and film wavelike characteristics under liquid volume flow rates ranged from 2.78×10 -6 m 3 /s to 1.39×10 -5 m 3 /s and surface temperatures between 22℃ and 78.2℃ were examined respectively. The development process of the liquid film on the heated surface was observed. The local mean film thickness, the film wavelike characteristics and the behavior of the bubbles appeared in the liquid film were captured using an image processing technique. It is discovered that there exists a climax of local mean film thickness during the starting process of spray cooling. When the liquid film reaches the dynamic stable state, the dimensionless mean film thickness decreases with the increase of the liquid volume flow rate, and increases with the increase of surface temperature generally. 7Patterning catalyst via inkjet printing to grow single-walled carbon nanotubes显示文摘Controlled growth of patterned single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) is an important issue in many applications. Herein, we demonstrated a method to pattern catalyst via inkjet printing for the growth of SWNTs, using metal salt solutions as the inks and an ordinary office-use printer. We printed water solutions of cobalt acetate on hydrophilic Si substrates and grew high quality SWNT films. 9A combined process coupling phytoremediation and in situ flushing for removal of arsenic in contaminated soil显示文摘Phytoremediation and soil washing are both potentially useful for remediating arsenic(As)-contaminated soils.We evaluated the effectiveness of a combined process coupling phytoremediation and in situ soil flushing for removal of As in contaminated soil through a pilot study.The results showed that growing Pteris vittata L.(P.v.) accompanied by soil flushing of phosphate(P.v./Flushing treatment) could significantly decrease the total As concentration of soil over a 37 day flushing period compared with the single flushing(Flushing treatment).The P.v./Flushing treatment removed 54.04% of soil As from contaminated soil compared to 47.16% in Flushing treatment,suggesting that the growth of P.vittata was beneficial for promoting the removal efficiency.We analyzed the As fractionation in soil and As concentration in soil solution to reveal the mechanism behind this combined process.Results showed that comparing with the control treatment,the percent of labile arsenate fraction significantly increased by 17% under P.v./Flushing treatment.As concentration in soil solution remained a high lever during the middle and later periods(51.26–56.22 mg/L),which was significantly higher than the Flushing treatment.Although soil flushing of phosphate for more than a month,P.vittata still had good accumulation and transfer capacity of As of the soil.The results of the research revealed that combination of phytoremediation and in situ soil flushing is available to remediate As-contaminated soils.Xiulan Yan Qiuxin Liu Jianyi Wang Xiaoyong Liao 2017Journal of Environmental Sciences2017,29,7:2

11n-Octadecanethiol Self-Assembled Monolayer Coating with Microscopic Roughness for Dropwise Condensation of Steam显示文摘Here we presented a novel technology to achieve a Super-hydrophobic coating with microscopic roughness oncopper surface. First, make a layer of verdigris grow on the fresh pure copper surface. Gain it by exposing thecopper to air and the mist of acetic acid solution. The green coating is a mixture of basic copper(Ⅱ) carbonate andcopper(Ⅱ) acetate. Second heat the coating and make it decompose to CuO. Lastly, form an n-octadecanethiolself-assembled monolayers coating on the outermost surface. Contact angle test, scanning electron microscopeanalysis and electrochemical testing were carried out to characterize the surface, and a heat transfer experimentfor dropwise condensation of steam was performed also. Results show that the modified surface bears a few Super-hydrophobicfeatures, the static contact angle is higher than that in literatures, reaching 153.1±1.7°. The microscopicroughness can be seen in SEM images, differing much from H2O2 etched surface and bare copper surface.The condensation of steam on the surface is a typical form of dropwise condensation, in the measured rangeof temperature difference, under 0.1 MPa, the average convection heat transfer coefficients of the vertical surfaceare 1.7~2.1 times for those of film condensation.
