| 1 | Isolation and Characterization of Fucoidans from Five Brown Algae and Evaluation of Their Antioxidant Activity显示文摘In this study, we evaluated the chemical property and antioxidant activity of fucoidans isolated from brown algae, Laminaria japonica(LJF), Lessonia nigrescens(LNF), Lessonia trabeculata(LTF), Ascophyllum mackaii(AMF), and Ecklonia maxima(EMF). LJF was less in sulfate content(14.16%) and more in galactose and mannose content(1.08 and 0.68) than the documented early. EMF contained 20%–30% of sulfate and fucose, 0.97 in molar ratio which was lower than that of sulfate to other four fucoidans(1.21–1.41). AMF(162 kDa) and EMF(150 kDa) were the first two largest in molecular weight, which were followed by LJP(126 kDa), LNF(113 kDa) and LTF(105 kDa). The fucoidans isolated these algae showed a wide range of antioxidant activity in vitro. It was found that the reducing power of the isolated fucoidans was positively correlated with their sulfate content and molecular weight. In addition, LNF and LTF at low concentrations exhibited high superoxide and hydroxyl radical scavenging activity. | 3 | Adverse associations of sedentary behavior with cancer incidence and all-cause mortality:A prospective cohort study显示文摘Background:Inconsistent results have been reported in developed countries for relationships between sedentary behavior and cancer incidence and mortality,and evidence from the Chinese population is scarce.This study aimed to investigate such relationships in large Chinese population-based prospective cohorts and to explore the joint effect and interaction of sedentary behavior and moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA)on these relationships.Methods:We included 95,319 Chinese adults without cancer from 3 large cohorts and assessed their sedentary behavior and physical activity with a unified questionnaire.Cancer incidence and mortality were confirmed by interviewing participants or their proxies and checking hospital records and death certificates.Hazard ratios(HRs)and 95%confidence intervals(95%CIs)for cancer and mortality were estimated using Cox proportional hazards regression models.Results:During 559,002 person-years of follow-up,2388 cancer events,1571 cancer deaths,and 4562 all-cause deaths were recorded.Sedentary behavior was associated with increased risk of developing cancer and deaths in a doseresponse manner.The multivariable-adjusted HRs(95%CIs)were the following:HR=1.16,95%CI:1.01-1.33;HR=1.24,95%CI:1.04-1.48;and HR=1.15,95%CI:1.04-1.28 for cancer incidence,cancer mortality,and all-cause mortality,respectively,for those having≥10 h/day of sedentary time compared with those having<6 h/day of sedentary time.Sedentary populations(≥10 h/day)developed cancer or died 4.09 years and 2.79 years earlier,respectively,at the index age of 50 years.Failure to achieve the recommended level of MVPA may further aggravate the adverse associations,with the highest cancer and mortality risks being observed among participants with both≥10 h/day of sedentary time and<150 min/week of MVPA.Limitations of this study include the fact that physical activity information was obtained via questionnaire instead of objective measurement and that there were insufficient incident cases for the analysis of associations between sedentary behavior and site-specific cancers.Conclusion:Sedentary behavior was associated with an increased risk of cancer and all-cause mortality among Chinese adults,especially for those with≥10 h/day of sedentary time.It is necessary to reduce sedentary time,in addition to increasing MVPA levels,for the prevention of cancer and premature death. | Yuan Lin Qiong Liu Fangchao Liu Keyong Huang Jianxin Li Xueli Yang Xinyan Wang Jichun Chen Xiaoqing Liu Jie Cao Chong Shen Ling Yu Fanghong Lu Xianping Wu Liancheng Zhao Ying Li Dongsheng Hu Xiangfeng Lu Jianfeng Huang Dongfeng Gu | 2021 | Journal of Sport and Health Science2021,10,5: | 2 |

| 7 | Understanding the dynamical-microphysical-electrical processes associated with severe thunderstorms over the Beijing metropolitan region显示文摘The Dynamical-microphysical-electrical Processes in Severe Thunderstorms and Lightning Hazards(STORM973)project conducted coordinated comprehensive field observations of thunderstorms in the Beijing metropolitan region(BMR)during the warm season from 2014 to 2018.The aim of the project was to understand how dynamical,microphysical and electrical processes interact in severe thunderstorms in the BMR,and how to assimilate lightning data in numerical weather prediction models to improve severe thunderstorm forecasts.The platforms used in the field campaign included the Beijing Lightning Network(BLNET,consisting of 16 stations),2 X-band dual linear polarimetric Doppler radars,and 4 laser raindrop spectrometers.The collaboration also made use of the China Meteorological Administration’s mesoscale meteorological observation network in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region.Although diverse thunderstorm types were documented,it was found that squall lines and multicell storms were the two major categories of severe thunderstorms with frequent lightning activity and extreme rainfall or unexpected local short-duration heavy rainfall resulting in inundations in the central urban area,influenced by the terrain and environmental conditions.The flash density maximums were found in eastern Changping District,central and eastern Shunyi District,and the central urban area of Beijing,suggesting that the urban heat island effect has a crucial role in the intensification of thunderstorms over Beijing.In addition,the flash rate associated with super thunderstorms can reach hundreds of flashes per minute in the central city regions.The super(5%of the total),strong(35%),and weak(60%)thunderstorms contributed about 37%,56%,and 7%to the total flashes in the BMR,respectively.Owing to the close connection between lightning activity and the thermodynamic and microphysical characteristics of the thunderstorms,the lightning flash rate can be used as an indicator of severe weather events,such as hail and short-duration heavy rainfall.Lightning data can also be assimilated into numerical weather prediction models to help improve the forecasting of severe convection and precipitation at the cloud-resolved scale,through adjusting or correcting the thermodynamic and microphysical parameters of the model. | Xiushu QIE Shanfeng YUAN Zhixiong CHEN Dongfeng WANG Dongxia LIU Mengyu SUN Zhuling SUN Abhay SRIVASTAVA Hongbo ZHANG Jingyu LU Hui XIAO Yongheng BI Liang FENG Ye TIAN Yan XU Rubin JIANG Mingyuan LIU Xian XIAO Shu DUAN Debin SU Chengyun SUN Wenjing XU Yijun ZHANG Gaopeng LU Da-Lin ZHANG Yan YIN Ye YU | 2021 | Science China Earth Sciences2021,64,1: | 1 |

| 18 | Gas in place and its controlling factors of deep shale of the Wufeng–Longmaxi Formations in the Dingshan area, Sichuan Basin显示文摘Recently, deeply-buried shale (depth > 3500 m) has become an attractive target for shale gas exploration and development in China. Gas-in-place (GIP) is critical to shale gas evaluation, but the GIP content of deep shale and its controlling factors have rarely been investigated. To clarify this issue, an integrated investigation of deep gas shale (3740–3820 m depth) of the Lower Paleozoic Wufeng–Longmaxi Formations (WF–LMX) in the Dingshan area, Sichuan Basin had been carried out. Our results show that the GIP content of the studied WF–LMX shale in the Dingshan area ranges from 0.85 to 12.7 m^(3)/t, with an average of 3.5 m^(3)/t. Various types of pores, including organic matter (OM) pore and inorganic pore, are widely developed in the deep shale, with total porosity of 2.2 to 7.3% (average = 4.5%). The OM pore and clay-hosted pore are the dominant pore types of siliceous shale and clay-rich shale, respectively. Authigenic quartz plays a critical role in the protection of organic pores in organic-rich shales from compaction. The TOC content controls the porosity of shale samples, which is the major factor controlling the GIP content of the deep shale. Clay minerals generally play a negative role in the GIP content. In the Sichuan Basin, the deep and ultra-deep WF–LMX shales display the relatively high porosity and GIP contents probably due to the widespread of organic pores and better preservation, revealing great potentials of deep and ultra-deep shale gas. From the perspective of rock mechanical properties, deep shale is the favorable exploration target in the Sichuan Basin at present. | 20 | Effects of mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor on sepsis-associated acute kidney injury显示文摘BACKGROUND:To determine the protective role of mesencephalic astrocyte-derived neurotrophic factor(MANF) in regulating sepsis-associated acute kidney injury(S-AKI).METHODS:A total of 96 mice were randomly divided into the control group,control+MANF group,S-AKI group,and S-AKI+MANF group.The S-AKI model was established by injecting lipopolysaccharide(LPS) at 10 mg/kg intraperitoneally.MANF(200 μg/kg) was administered to the control+MANF and S-AKI+MANF groups.An equal dose of normal saline was administered daily intraperitoneally in the control and S-AKI groups.Serum and kidney tissue samples were obtained for biochemical analysis.Western blotting was used to detect the protein expression of MANF in the kidney,and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) was used to determine expression of MANF in the serum,pro-inflammatory cytokines(tumor necrosis factor-α [TNF-α] and interleukin-6 [IL-6]).Serum creatinine(SCr),and blood urea nitrogen(BUN)were examined using an automatic biochemical analyzer.In addition,the kidney tissue was observed for pathological changes by hematoxylin-eosin staining.The comparison between two groups was performed by unpaired Student’s t-test,and statistics among multiple groups were carried out using Tukey’s post hoc test following one-way analysis of variance(ANOVA).A P-value <0.05 was considered statistically significant.RESULTS:At the early stage of S-AKI,MANF in the kidney tissue was up-regulated,but with the development of the disease,it was down-regulated.Renal function was worsened in the S-AKI group,and TNF-α and IL-6 were elevated.The administration of MANF significantly alleviated the elevated levels of SCr and BUN and inhibited the expression of TNF-α and IL-6 in the kidney.The pathological changes were more extensive in the S-AKI group than in the S-AKI+MANF group.CONCLUSION:MANF treatment may significantly alleviate renal injury,reduce the inflammatory response,and alleviate or reverse kidney tissue damage.MANF may have a protective effect on S-AKI,suggesting a potential treatment for S-AKI. | Saifeng Chen Xuewei Hao Guo Chen Guorong Liu Xiaoyan Yuan Peiling Shen Dongfeng Guo | 2023 | World Journal of Emergency Medicine2023,14,5: | 0 |
