The Relationship between Glucose Excursion and Cognitive Function in Aged Type 2 Diabetes Patients显示文摘Objective Evidence suggests that type 2 diabetes (T2DM) is associated with an increased risk of dementia and that glucose variability is an independent risk factor for diabetic complications. This study investigated the relationship between glucose excursion and cognitive function in aged T2DM patients. Methods A total of 248 aged T2DM patients wore a continuous glucose monitoring system (CGMS) for 3 days in order to evaluate glucose excursion, including mean amplitude of glycemic excursions (MAGE) and mean of daily difference (MODD).All subjects were evaluated with a number of accepted cognitive function tests, including themini‐mental status examination (MMSE).The relationship between MAGE and MODD and performance on these cognitive tests was assessed. Results The MAGE and MMSE score were negatively correlated, likewise with the correlation between MODD and MMSE.Liner multivariate regression analysis showed that MAGE and MODD were also negatively related to MMSE independent of age, sex, glycemic control, hypertension, smoking,or coronary heart disease history. Conclusion Glucose excursion is related to cognitive function in aged T2DM patients.Elevated glucose excursion decreased the MMSE score, which reflects general cognitive function. Thus, therapy aimed at controlling glucose excursion may be beneficial for maintaining cognitive function in aged T2DM patients.ZHONG Yuan ZHANG Xiao Yan MIAO Ya ZHU Jie Hua YAN Hong WANG Bei Yun JIN Jun HU Ting Jun JIA Wei Ping 2012Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,1:34

Effects of Short-Term Forest Bathing on Human Health in a Broad-Leaved Evergreen Forest in Zhejiang Province,China显示文摘Objective To investigate the effects of short-term forest bathing on human health. Methods Twenty healthy male university students participated as subjects and were randomly divided into two groups of 10.One group was sent on a two-night trip to a broad-leaved evergreen forest, and the other was sent to a city area.Serum cytokine levels reflecting inflammatory and stress response, indicators reflecting oxidative stress, the distribution of leukocyte subsets, and plasma endothelin-1 (ET-1) concentrations were measured before and after the experiment to evaluate the positive health effects of forest environments.A profile of mood states (POMS) evaluation was used to assess changes in mood states. Results No significant differences in the baseline values of the indicators were observed between the two groups before the experiment.Subjects exposed to the forest environment showed reduced oxidative stress and pro-inflammatory level,as evidenced by decreased malondialdehyde,interleukin-6,and tumor necrosis factor α levels compared with the urban group.Serum cortisol levels were also lower than in the urban group.Notably, the concentration of plasma ET-1 was much lower in subjects exposed to the forest environment. The POMS evaluation showed that after exposure to the forest environment, subjects had lower scores in the negative subscales, and the score for vigor was increased. Conclusion Forest bathing is beneficial to human health, perhaps through preventive effects related to several pathological factors.MAO Gen Xiang LAN Xiao Guang CAO Yong Bao CHEN Zhuo Mei HE Zhi Huat LV Yuan Dong WANG Ya Zhen HU Xi Lian WANG Guo Fu YAN Jing 2012Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,3:20
BEAK-SHAPED GRAIN 1/TRIANGULAR HULL 1,a DUF640 gene,is associated with grain shape, size and weight in rice显示文摘Grain shape and size both determine grain weight and therefore crop yield. However, the molecular mechanisms controlling grain shape and size are still largely unknown. Here,we isolated a rice mutant,beak-shaped grain1(bsg1),which produced beak-shaped grains of decreased width, thickness and weight with a loosely interlocked lemma and palea that were unable to close tightly.Starch granules were also irregularly packaged in the bsg1 grains.Consistent with the lemma and palea shapes, the outer parenchyma cell layers of these bsg1 tissues developed fewer cells with decreased size.Map-based cloning revealed that BSG1 encoded a DUF640 domain protein,TRIANGULAR HULL 1,of unknown function.Quantitative PCR and GUS fusion reporter assays showed that BSG1 was expressed mainly in the young panicle and elongating stem. The BSG1 mutation affected the expression of genes potentially involved in the cell cycle and GW2,an important regulator of grain size in rice. Our results suggest that BSG1 determines grain shape and size probably by modifying cell division and expansion in the grain hull.YAN DaWei ZHOU Ya YE ShengHai ZENG LongJun ZHANG XiaoMing HE ZuHua 2013Science China(Life Sciences)2013,56,3:20
Effectiveness of Different Waist Circumference Cut-off Values in Predicting Metabolic Syndrome Prevalence and Risk Factors in Adults in China显示文摘Objective To study the effectiveness of waist circumference cut-off values in predicting the prevalence of metabolic syndrome(MetS) and risk factors in adults in China. Methods A cross-sectional survey was condcuted in 14 provinces(autonomous region, municipality) in China. A total of 47 325 adults aged ≥20 years were selected by multistage stratified sampling, and questionnaire survey and physical and clinical examination were conducted among them. MetS was defined according to the International Diabetes Federation(IDF) criteria and modified IDF criteria. Results The age-standardized prevalence of MetS was 24.2%(22.1% in men and 25.8% in women) and 19.5%(22.1% in men and 18.0% in women) according to the IDF criteria and modified IDF criteria respectively. The age-standardized prevalence of pre-MetS was 8.1%(8.6% in men and 7.8% in women) according to the modified IDF criteria. The prevalence of MetS was higher in urban residents than rural residents and in northern China residents than in southern China residents. The prevalence of central obesity was about 30% in both men and women according to the ethnicity-specific cut-off values of waist circumference for central obesity(90 cm for men and 85 cm for women). Multivariate regression analysis revealed no significant difference in risk factors between the two MetS definitions. Conclusion Using both the modified IDF criteria and ethnicity-specific cut-off values of waist circumference can provide more useful information about the prevalence of MetS in China.ZHOU Hai Cheng LAI Ya Xin SHAN Zhong Yan JIA Wei Ping YANG Wen Ying LU Ju Ming WENG Jian Ping JI Li Nong LIU Jie TIAN Hao Ming JI Qiu He ZHU Da Long CHEN Li GUO Xiao Hui ZHAO Zhi Gang Li Qiang ZHOU Zhi Guang GE Jia Pu SHAN Guang Liang 2014Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2014,27,5:17
Microwave Exposure Impairs Synaptic Plasticity in the Rat Hippocampus and PC12 Cells through Over-activation of the NMDA Receptor Signaling Pathway显示文摘Objective The aim of this study is to investigate whether microwave exposure would affect the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor(NMDAR) signaling pathway to establish whether this plays a role in synaptic plasticity impairment. Methods 48 male Wistar rats were exposed to 30 m W/cm2 microwave for 10 min every other day for three times. Hippocampal structure was observed through H&E staining and transmission electron microscope. PC12 cells were exposed to 30 m W/cm2 microwave for 5 min and the synapse morphology was visualized with scanning electron microscope and atomic force microscope. The release of amino acid neurotransmitters and calcium influx were detected. The expressions of several key NMDAR signaling molecules were evaluated. Results Microwave exposure caused injury in rat hippocampal structure and PC12 cells, especially the structure and quantity of synapses. The ratio of glutamic acid and gamma-aminobutyric acid neurotransmitters was increased and the intracellular calcium level was elevated in PC12 cells. A significant change in NMDAR subunits(NR1, NR2 A, and NR2B) and related signaling molecules(Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent kinase II gamma and phosphorylated c AMP-response element binding protein) were examined. Conclusion 30 m W/cm2 microwave exposure resulted in alterations of synaptic structure, amino acid neurotransmitter release and calcium influx. NMDAR signaling molecules were closely associated with impaired synaptic plasticity.XIONG Lu SUN Cheng Feng ZHANG Jing GAO Ya Bing WANG Li Feng ZUO Hong Yan WANG Shui Ming ZHOU Hong Mei XU Xin Ping DONG Ji YAO Bin Wei ZHAO Li PENG Rui Yun 2015Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2015,28,1:16
Reproductive management through integration of PGD and MPS-based noninvasive prenatal screening/diagnosis for a family with GJB2-associated hearing impairment显示文摘A couple with a proband child of GJB2(encoding the gap junction protein connexin 26)-associated hearing impairment and a previous pregnancy miscarriage sought for a reproductive solution to bear a healthy child. Our study aimed to develop a customized preconception-to-neonate care trajectory to fulfill this clinical demand by integrating preimplantation genetic diagnosis(PGD), noninvasive prenatal testing(NIPT), and noninvasive prenatal diagnosis(NIPD) into the strategy. Auditory and genetic diagnosis of the proband child was carried out to identify the disease causative mutations. The couple then received in-vitro-fertilization treatment, and eight embryos were obtained for day 5 biopsy. PGD was performed by short-tandem-repeat linkage analysis and Sanger sequencing of GJB2 gene. Transfer of a GJB2 c.235del C heterozygous embryo resulted in a singleton pregnancy. At the 13 th week of gestation, genomic DNA(g DNA) from the trio family and cell-free DNA(cf DNA) from maternal plasma were obtained for assessment of fetal chromosomal aneuploidy and GJB2 mutations. NIPT and NIPD showed the absence of chromosomal aneuploidy and GJB2-associated disease in the fetus, which was later confirmed by invasive procedures and postnatal genetic/auditory diagnosis. This strategy successfully prevented the transmission of hearing impairment in the newborn, thus providing a valuable experience in reproductive management of similar cases and potentially other monogenic disorders.XIONG WenPing WANG DaYong GAO Yuan GAO Ya WANG HongYang GUAN Jing LAN Lan YAN JunHao ZONG Liang YUAN Yuan DONG Wei HUANG SeXin WU KeLiang WANG YaoShen WANG ZhiLi PENG HongMei LU YanPing XIE LinYi ZHAO Cui WANG Li ZHANG QiuJing GAO Yun LI Na YANG Ju YIN ZiFang HAN Bing WANG Wei CHEN Zi-Jiang WANG QiuJu 2015Science China(Life Sciences)2015,58,9:12
Hyperinsulinemia,Insulin Resistance and Cognitive Decline in Older Cohort显示文摘Objective Type 2 diabetes has been recently recognized as an important risk factor for cognitive decline of patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD).But the roles of hyperinsulinemia (HI) and insulin resistance (IR) in the development of AD are still controversial. This study was designed to evaluate whether HI or IR influenced the cognitive functions of older cohort. Methods The cognitive functions of 328 consecutive elderly patients were evaluated with a battery of cognitive rating scales.Their fasting blood glucose (FBG) and fasting insulin (FINS) were analyzed and IR was calculated with modified‐Homa. The cognitive scores in different groups and the correlation of cognitive functions with HI or IR were analyzed. Results In our study, there were 180 participants with HI and 148 without HI,and 192 with IR and 136 without IR.The participants with HI showed worse cognitive functions than those without HI in MMSE,MOCA,CDR,orientation, delayed memory, and attention/calculation domains.Similarly, the elderly with IR had lower cognitive scores than those without IR in MMSE,MOCA,CDR,GDS,orientation, delayed memory, and attention/calculation domains. The insulin levels and Homa IR had negative correlation with the scores of MMSE and delayed memory, not only in the model 1 adjusted for FBG and diabetes history, but also in the model 2 adjusted for all nine demographic characteristics. Conclusion HI and IR are important risk factors for cognitive decline of the elderly, especially for the dysfunctions in delayed memory domains.ZHONG Yuan MIAO Ya JIA Wei Ping YAN Hong WANG Bei Yun JIN Jun 2012Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,1:11
Oxidative Stress and Apoptotic Changes of Rat Cerebral Cortical Neurons Exposed to Cadmium in Vitro显示文摘Objective To investigate the cytotoxic mechanism of cadmium(Cd) on cerebral cortical neurons. Methods The primary cultures of rat cerebral cortical neurons were treated with different concentrations of cadmium acetate(0,5,10,and 20 μmol/L),and then the cell viability, apoptosis, ultrastructure, intracellular [Ca2+]i and reactive oxygen species(ROS) levels, mitochondrial membrane potential(ΔΨ),activities of catalase(CAT) and superoxide dismutase(SOD) were measured. Results A progressive loss in cell viability and an increased number of apoptotic cells were observed. In addition,Cd-induced apoptotic morphological changes in cerebral cortical neurons were also demonstrated by Hoechst 33258 staining.Meanwhile, ultrastructural changes were distortion of mitochondrial cristae and an unusual arrangement.Simultaneously, elevation of intracellular [Ca2+]i and ROS levels, depletion of ΔΨ were revealed in a dose-dependent manner during the exposure. Moreover,CAT and SOD activities in the living cells increased significantly. Conclusion Exposure of cortical neurons to different doses of Cd led to cellular death, mediated by an apoptotic mechanism, and the apoptotic death induced by oxidative stress may be a potential reason. And the disorder of intracellular homeostasis caused by oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction may be a trigger for apoptosis in cortical neurons.YUAN Yan BIAN Jian Chun LIU Xue Zhong ZHANG Ying SUN Ya LIU Zong Ping 2012Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2012,25,2:10
MicroTom Metabolic Network: Rewiring Tomato Metabolic Regulatory Network throughout the Growth Cycle显示文摘Tomato(Solanum lycopersicum)is a major horticultural crop worldwide and has emerged as a preeminent model for metabolic research.Although many research efforts have focused on the analysis of metabolite differences between varieties and species, the dynamics of metabolic changes during the tomato growth cycle and the regulatory networks that underlie these changes are poorly understood. In this study,we integrated high-resolution spatio-temporal metabolome and transcriptome data to systematically explore the metabolic landscape across 20 major tomato tissues and growth stages. In the resulting MicroTom Metabolic Network, the 540 detected metabolites and their co-expressed genes could be divided into 10 distinct clusters based on their biological functions.Using this dataset,we constructed a global map of the major metabolic changes that occur throughout the tomato growth cycle and dissected the underlying regulatory network. In addition to verifying previously well-established regulatory networks for important metabolites,we identified novel transcription factors that regulate the biosynthesis of important secondary metabolites such as steroidal glycoalkaloids and flavonoids. Our findings provide insights into spatiotemporal changes in tomato metabolism and generate a valuable resource for the study of metabolic regulatory processes in model plants.Yan Li Yang Chen Lu Zhou Shengjie You Heng Deng Ya Chen Saleh Alseekh Yong Yuan Rao Fu Zixin Zhang Dan Su Alisdair R.Fernie Mondher Bouzayen Tao Ma Mingchun Liu Yang Zhang 2020Molecular Plant2020,13,8:10
Psychological status and diabetes-related distress of Chinese type 1 diabetes patients in Jiangsu province, China显示文摘We sought to assess the psychological status and diabetes-related distress of Chinese type 1 diabetes patients in Jiangsu province,China.According to the World Health Organization criteria,42 patients with type 1 diabetes were enrolled in the study and assessed with the Self-Rating Anxiety Scale(SAS),Self-Rating Depression Scale(SDS)and Diabetes Distress Scale(DDS).All data were tabulated and statistical analyses were performed. The study summarized cases of 42 patients with type 1 diabetes, including 17 males and 25 females with a mean age of 23±12 years and a mean duration of diabetes of 7±6 years.Compared to the Chinese normative data, the SAS standard score was significantly higher, whereas SDS standard score had no statistical significance. The SAS standard score was most highly correlated with diabetes duration(γ=0.547,P=0.011).Additionally,19.5%of the patients had moderate or even severe diabetes-related distress and 21.4%had moderate or even severe emotional burden while 26.2%had regimen-related distress.Multiple stepwise regression analysis showed that the mean correlation between DDS and the four domains was high, particularly the emotional burden domain(estimatedβ=0.363,P<0.001)and regimen-related distress domain(estimatedβ=0.356,P<0.001).The correlation between SAS and DDS was positive(estimatedβ=0.039,P=0.027).In conclusion, the results showed the importance of psychological aspects in Chinese individuals with type 1 diabetes.Screening and treatment of psychological aspects may result in better adherence and increased quality of life for patients with diabetes.Lulu Kong Yun Cai Gang Mei Rong Gu Xiaojiao Zhang Yao Qin Ya Cai Yan Li Hongwen Zhou Mei Zhang Tao Yang 2013The Journal of Biomedical Research2013,27,5:9

TNF-αTNFR1 Signaling is Required for the Full Expression of Acute and Chronic Itch in Mice via Peripheral and Central Mechanisms显示文摘Increasing evidence suggests that cytokines and chemokines play crucial roles in chronic itch. In the present study, we evaluated the roles of tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-a) and its receptors TNF receptor subtype-1(TNFR1) and TNFR2 in acute and chronic itch in mice.Compared to wild-type(WT) mice, TNFR1-knockout(TNFR1-KO) and TNFR1/R2 double-KO(DKO), but not TNFR2-KO mice, exhibited reduced acute itch induced by compound 48/80 and chloroquine(CQ). Application of the TNF-synthesis inhibitor thalidomide and the TNF-αantagonist etanercept dose-dependently suppressed acute itch. Intradermal injection of TNF-α was not sufficient to evoke scratching, but potentiated itch induced by compound 48/80, but not CQ. In addition, compound 48/80 induced TNF-α mRNA expression in the skin, while CQ induced its expression in the dorsal root ganglia(DRG) and spinal cord. Furthermore, chronic itch induced by dry skin was reduced by administration of thalidomide and etanercept and in TNFR1/R2 DKO mice. Dry skin induced TNF-α expression in the skin, DRG, and spinal cord and TNFR1 expression only in the spinal cord. Thus, our findings suggest that TNF-α/TNFR1 signaling is required for the full expression of acute and chronic itch via peripheral and central mechanisms, and targeting TNFR1 may be beneficial for chronic itch treatment.Xiuhua Miao Ya Huang Teng-Teng Liu Ran Guo Bing Wang Xue-Long Wang Li-Hua Chen Yan Zhou Ru-Rong Ji Tong Liu 2018Neuroscience Bulletin2018,34,1:8
Cadmium Activates Reactive Oxygen Species-dependent AKT/mT OR and Mitochondrial Apoptotic Pathways in Neuronal Cells显示文摘Objective To examine the role of Cd-induced reactive oxygen species(ROS)generation in the apoptosis of neuronal cells. Methods Neuronal cells(primary rat cerebral cortical neurons and PC12 cells)were incubated with or without Cd post-pretreatment with rapamycin(Rap)or N-acetyl-L-cysteine(NAC).Cell viability was determined by MTT assay, apoptosis was examined using flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy, and the activation of phosphoinositide 3'-kinase/protein kinase B(Akt)/mammalian target of rapamycin(m TOR)and mitochondrial apoptotic pathways were measured by western blotting or immunofluorescence assays. Results Cd-induced activation of Akt/m TOR signaling, including Akt,m TOR,p70 S6 kinase(p70 S6K),and eukaryotic initiation factor 4E binding protein 1(4E-BP1).Rap,an m TOR inhibitor and NAC,a ROS scavenger, blocked Cd-induced activation of Akt/m TOR signaling and apoptosis of neuronal cells.Furthermore,NAC blocked the decrease of B-cell lymphoma 2/Bcl-2 associated X protein(Bcl-2/Bax)ratio,release of cytochrome c,cleavage of caspase-3 and poly(ADP-ribose)polymerase(PARP),and nuclear translocation of apoptosis-inducing factor(AIF)and endonuclease G(Endo G).Conclusion Cd-induced ROS generation activates Akt/m TOR and mitochondrial pathways, leading to apoptosis of neuronal cells. Our findings suggest that m TOR inhibitors or antioxidants have potential for preventing Cd-induced neurodegenerative diseases.YUAN Yan WANG Yi HU Fei Fei JIANG Chen Yang ZHANG Ya Jing YANG Jin Long ZHAO Shi Wen GU Jian Hong LIU Xue Zhong BIAN Jian Chun LIU Zong Ping 2016Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2016,29,2:8
Association of Overlapped and Un-overlapped Comorbidities with COVID-19 Severity and Treatment Outcomes: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Nine Provinces in China显示文摘Objective Several COVID-19 patients have overlapping comorbidities. The independent role of each component contributing to the risk of COVID-19 is unknown, and how some non-cardiometabolic comorbidities affect the risk of COVID-19 remains unclear. Methods A retrospective follow-up design was adopted. A total of 1,160 laboratory-confirmed patients were enrolled from nine provinces in China. Data on comorbidities were obtained from the patients’ medical records. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to estimate the odds ratio(OR) and 95% confidence interval(95% CI) of the associations between comorbidities(cardiometabolic or non-cardiometabolic diseases), clinical severity, and treatment outcomes of COVID-19.Results Overall, 158(13.6%) patients were diagnosed with severe illness and 32(2.7%) had unfavorable outcomes. Hypertension(2.87, 1.30–6.32), type 2 diabetes(T2 DM)(3.57, 2.32–5.49),cardiovascular disease(CVD)(3.78, 1.81–7.89), fatty liver disease(7.53, 1.96–28.96), hyperlipidemia(2.15, 1.26–3.67), other lung diseases(6.00, 3.01–11.96), and electrolyte imbalance(10.40, 3.00–26.10)were independently linked to increased odds of being severely ill. T2 DM(6.07, 2.89–12.75), CVD(8.47,6.03–11.89), and electrolyte imbalance(19.44, 11.47–32.96) were also strong predictors of unfavorable outcomes. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease on admission(5.46,3.25–9.19), while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes(6.58, 1.46–29.64) within two weeks. Conclusion Besides hypertension, diabetes, and CVD, fatty liver disease, hyperlipidemia, other lung diseases, and electrolyte imbalance were independent risk factors for COVID-19 severity and poor treatment outcome. Women with comorbidities were more likely to have severe disease, while men with comorbidities were more likely to have unfavorable treatment outcomes.MA Yan ZHU Dong Shan CHEN Ren Bo SHI Nan Nan LIU Si Hong FAN Yi Pin WU Gui Hui YANG Pu Ye BAI Jiang Feng CHEN Hong CHEN Li Ying FENG Qiao GUO Tuan Mao HOU Yong HU Gui Fen HU Xiao Mei HU Yun Hong HUANG Jin HUANG Qiu Hua HUANG Shao Zhen JI Liang JIN Hai Hao LEI Xiao LI Chun Yan LI Min Qing LI Qun Tang LI Xian Yong LIU Hong De LIU Jin Ping LIU Zhang MA Yu Ting MAO Ya MO Liu Fen NA Hui WANG Jing Wei SONG Fang Li SUN Sheng WANG Dong Ting WANG Ming Xuan WANG Xiao Yan WANG Yin Zhen WANG Yu Dong WU Wei WU Lan Ping XIAO Yan Hua XIE Hai Jun XU Hong Ming XU Shou Fang XUE Rui Xia YANG Chun YANG Kai Jun YUAN Sheng Li ZHANG Gong Qi ZHANG Jin Bo ZHANG Lin Song ZHAO Shu Sen ZHAO Wan Ying ZHENG Kai ZHOU Ying Chun ZHU Jun Teng ZHU Tian Qing ZHANG Hua Min WANG Yan Ping WANG Yong Yan 2020Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2020,33,12:8
Behavioral Abnormality along with NMDAR-related CREB Suppression in Rat Hippocampus after Shortwave Exposure显示文摘Objective To estimate the detrimental effects of shortwave exposure on rat hippocampal structure and function and explore the underlying mechanisms. Methods One hundred Wistar rats were randomly divided into four groups(25 rats per group) and exposed to 27 MHz continuous shortwave at a power density of 5, 10, or 30 m W/cm^2 for 6 min once only or underwent sham exposure for the control. The spatial learning and memory, electroencephalogram(EEG), hippocampal structure and Nissl bodies were analysed. Furthermore, the expressions of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor(NMDAR) subunits(NR1, NR2 A, and NR2 B), c AMP responsive element-binding protein(CREB) and phosphorylated CREB(p-CREB) in hippocampal tissue were analysed on 1, 7, and 14 days after exposure. Results The rats in the 10 and 30 m W/cm^2 groups had poor learning and memory, disrupted EEG oscillations, and injured hippocampal structures, including hippocampal neurons degeneration, mitochondria cavitation and blood capillaries swelling. The Nissl body content was also reduced in the exposure groups. Moreover, the hippocampal tissue in the 30 m W/cm^2 group had increased expressions of NR2 A and NR2 B and decreased levels of CREB and p-CREB. Conclusion Shortwave exposure(27 MHz, with an average power density of 10 and 30 m W/cm^2) impaired rats' spatial learning and memory and caused a series of dose-dependent pathophysiological changes. Moreover, NMDAR-related CREB pathway suppression might be involved in shortwave-induced structural and functional impairments in the rat hippocampus.YU Chao BAI Yan Xin XU Xin Ping GAO Ya Bing HAO Yan Hui WANG Hui TAN Sheng Zhi LI Wen Chao ZHANG Jing YAO Bin Wei DONG Ji ZHAO Li PENG Rui Yun 2019Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2019,32,3:7
Reconfigurable directional coupler in lithium niobate crystal fabricated by three-dimensional femtosecond laser focal field engineering显示文摘For crystals, depressed cladding waveguides have advantages such as preservation of the spectroscopic as well as non-linear properties and the capability to guide both horizontal and vertical polarization modes, but fabrication is always quite time consuming. In addition, it is usually difficult to couple modes propagating in different depressed cladding waveguides through evanescent field overlap, so it is often required to dynamically reconfigure photonic waveguide devices using external fields for classical or quantum applications. Here, we experimentally demonstrate the single-scan femtosecond laser transverse writing of depressed cladding waveguides to form a 2 × 2 directional coupler inside lithium niobate crystal, which is integrated with two deeply embedded microelectrodes on both sides of the interaction region to reconfigure the coupling. By focal field engineering of the femtosecond laser, we specially generate a three-dimensional longitudinally oriented ring-shaped focal intensity profile composed of 16 discrete spots to simultaneously write the entire cladding region. The fabricated waveguides exhibit good single guided modes in two orthogonal polarizations at 1550 nm. By applying voltage to the deeply embedded microelectrodes fabricated with the femtosecond laser ablation followed by selective electroless plating, we successfully facilitate the light coupling from the input arm to the cross arm and thus actively tune the splitting ratio. These results open new important perspectives in the efficient fabrication of reconfigurable complex three-dimensional devices in crystals based on depressed cladding waveguides.Qian Zhang Meng Li Jian Xu Zijie Lin Haofeng Yu Min Wang Zhiwei Fang Ya Cheng Qihuang Gong Yan Li 2019Photonics Research2019,7,5:7
ZmWRKY104 positively regulates salt tolerance by modulating ZmSOD4 expression in maize显示文摘Salinity impairs plant growth, limiting agricultural development. It is desirable to identify genes responding to salt stress and their mechanism of action. We identified a function of the Zea mays WRKY transcription factor, Zm WRKY104, in salt stress response. Zm WRKY104 was localized in the nucleus and showed transcriptional activation activity. Phenotypic and physiological analysis showed that overexpression of Zm WRKY104 in maize increased the tolerance of maize to salt stress and alleviated salt-induced increases in O;accumulation, malondialdehyde(MDA) content, and percent of electrolyte leakage. Further investigation showed that Zm WRKY104 increased SOD activity by regulating Zm SOD4 expression. Yeast onehybrid, electrophoretic mobility shift test, and chromatin immunoprecipitation–quantitative PCR assay showed that Zm WRKY104 bound directly to the promoter of Zm SOD4 by recognizing the W-box motif in vivo and in vitro. Phenotypic, physiological, and biochemical analysis showed that Zm SOD4 increased salt tolerance by alleviating salt-induced increases in O;accumulation, MDA content, and percent of electrolyte leakage under salt stress. Taken together, our results indicate that Zm WRKY104 positively regulates Zm SOD4 expression to modulate salt-induced O;accumulation, MDA content, and percent of electrolyte leakage, thus affecting salt stress response in maize.Jingwei Yan Jing Li Heping Zhang Ya Liu Aying Zhang 2022The Crop Journal2022,10,2:7
Antioxidants Attenuate Acute and Chronic Itch:Peripheral and Central Mechanisms of Oxidative Stress in Pruritus显示文摘Itch(pruritus) is one of the most disabling syndromes in patients suffering from skin, liver, or kidney diseases. Our previous study highlighted a key role of oxidative stress in acute itch. Here, we evaluated the effects of antioxidants in mouse models of acute and chronic itch and explored the potential mechanisms. The effects of systemic administration of the antioxidants N-acetyl-Lcysteine(NAC) and N-tert-butyl-a-phenylnitrone(PBN)were determined by behavioral tests in mouse models of acute itch induced by compound 48/80 or chloroquine, and chronic itch by treatment with a mixture of acetonediethyl-ether-water. We found that systemic administration of NAC or PBN significantly alleviated compound 48/80-and chloroquine-induced acute itch in a dose-dependent manner, attenuated dry skin-induced chronic itch, and suppressed oxidative stress in the affected skin.Antioxidants significantly decreased the accumulation of intracellular reactive oxygen species directly induced by compound 48/80 and chloroquine in the cultured dorsal root ganglia-derived cell line ND7-23. Finally, the antioxidants remarkably inhibited the compound 48/80-induced phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase in the spinal cord. These results indicated that oxidative stress plays a critical role in acute and chronic itch in the periphery and spinal cord and antioxidant treatment may be a promising strategy for anti-itch therapy.Feng-Ming Zhou Ruo-Xiao Cheng Shuai Wang Ya Huang Yong-Jing Gao Yan Zhou Teng-Teng Liu Xue-Long Wang Li-Hua Chen Tong Liu 2017Neuroscience Bulletin2017,33,4:6
Establishment of a Predictive Diagnostic Model for Acute Mycoplasma Pneumoniae Infection in Elderly Patients with Community-acquired Pneumonia显示文摘We established a diagnostic model to predict acute Mycoplasma pneumoniae(M.pneumonia)infection in elderly Community-acquired pneumonia(CAP)patients. We divided 456 patients into acute and non-acute M.pneumoniae infection groups.Binary logistic regression and receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves were used to establish a predictive model. The following independent factors were identified:age≥70 years;serum c TNT level≥0.05 ng/m L;lobar consolidation;mediastinal lymphadenopathy;and antibody titer in the acute phase≥1:40.The area under the ROC curve of the model was 0.923 and a score of≥7score predicted acute M.pneumoniae infection in elderly patients with CAP.The predictive model developed in this study has high diagnostic accuracy for the identification of elderly acute M.pneumoniae infection.XiAO Hong Li XIN De Li WANG Yan CUI Li Jian LIU Xiao Ya LIU Song SONG Li Hong LIU Chun Ling YIN Cheng Hong 2017Biomedical and Environmental Sciences2017,30,7:6
