| 2 | Determining "abnormal" levator hiatus distensibility using three-dimensional transperineal ultrasound in Chinese women显示文摘The dimension of the levator hiatus is a possible predictor of pelvic organ prolapse (POP). Thisretrospective study investigated 360 women who went to urogynecological clinic for pelvic floor discomfort.Levator hiatus dimensions were obtained by three-dimensional transperineal ultrasound and results werecompared between women with and without significantly objective prolapse (International Continence SocietyPOP quantification, grade 2 or higher). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses were performed todetermine valid screening index for detecting abnormal levator hiatus distensibility. Women with significantlyobjective prolapse had significantly higher levator hiatus dimensions than those without (all P 〈 0.001). ROCcurve analyses confirmed that hiatal area (HA) of 19.5 cm2 during Valsalva maneuver can be used as single-screening index for abnormal levator hiatus distensibility with sensitivity of 0.80 and specificity of 0.70. In thisstudy, we used a two-step method and achieved higher sensibility (0.80 vs. 0.87) without reducing specificity (0.70vs. 0.71) compared with a single-screening index method. | 3 | Hierarchical pore structure of activated carbon fabricated by CO_2/microwave for volatile organic compounds adsorption显示文摘An activated carbon pore-expanding technique was achieved through innovative reactivation by CO_2/microwave.The original and modified activated carbons were characterized by nitrogen adsorption–desorption,scanning electron microscopy,transmission electron microcopy,and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy.The mesopore volume increased from 0.122 cm^3·g^(-1) to 0.270 cm^3·g^(-1),and a hierarchical pore structure was formed.A gradual decrease in the phenolic hydroxyl and carboxyl groups on the surface of activated carbon enhanced the surface inertia of granular activated carbon(GAC).The toluene desorption rate of the modified sample increased by 8.81% compared with that of the original GAC.Adsorption isotherm fittings revealed that the Langmuir model was applicable for the original and modified activated carbons.The isosteric adsorption heat of toluene on the activated carbon decreased by approximately 50%,which endowed the modified sample with excellent stability in application.The modified samples showed an enhanced desorption performance of toluene,thereby opening a way to extend the cycle life and improve the economic performance of carbon adsorbent in practical engineering applications. | Wenjuan Qiu Kang Dou Ying Zhou Haifeng Huang Yinfei Chen Hanfeng Lu | 2018 | Chinese Journal of Chemical Engineering2018,26,1: | 16 |

| 6 | Dendrobium officinale Kimura et Migo and American ginseng mixture: A Chinese herbal formulation for gut microbiota modulation显示文摘Dendrobium officinale Kimura et Migo(D. officinale) is a famous traditional Chinese medicine(TCM). A mixture of D. officinale and American ginseng has been shown to enhance cell-mediated immunity, humoral immunity, and monocyte/macrophage functions in mice. Here, the effects of a D. officinale and American ginseng mixture on the structure of gut microbial community in dogs were examined using high-throughput 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing. The data revealed that while the mixture did not change the diversity of gut microbial community significantly, differences among individuals were significantly reduced. Furthermore, the mixture-responsive operational taxonomic units(OTUs) exhibited a phase-dependent expression pattern. Fifty-five OTUs were found to exhibit a mixture-induced expression pattern, among which one third were short-chain fatty acid(SCFA)-producing genera and the others were probiotic genera included Lactobacillus spp., Sutterella, Alistipes, Anaerovorax, Bilophila, Coprococcus, Gordonibacter, Oscillibacter, among others. By contrast, 36% of the OTUs exhibiting a mixture-repressed expression pattern were disease-associated microorganisms, and six genera, namely Actinomyces, Escherichia/Shigella, Fusobacterium, Slackia, Streptococcus and Solobacterium, were associated with cancer. In addition, five genera were closely associated with diabetes, namely Collinsella,Rothia, Howardella, Slackia and Intestinibacter. The solubility and density of the equilibrium liquid phase were determined by the isothermal solution saturation method. The equilibrium solids were also investigated by the Schreinemaker's method of wet residues and X-ray powder diffraction(XRD). According to the experimental data, the phase diagrams were determined. It was found that there was no significant solubility difference on the Na Cl-rich side between the ternary system(Na Cl + Na_2SO_4+ H_2O) in coal gasification wastewater and in pure water. However, the solubility on the Na_2SO_4-rich side of coal gasification wastewater was apparently higher than that of pure water. The increase in the solubility of Na_2SO_4 was most likely caused by the effects of other impurities apart from Na Cl and Na_2SO_4 in coal gasification wastewater. | 16 | Identification of novel molecular markers of mastitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus using gene expression profiling in two consecutive generations of Chinese Holstein dairy cattle显示文摘Background: Mastitis in dairy cows caused by Staphylococcus aureus is a major problem hindering economic growth in dairy farms worldwide. It is difficult to prevent or eliminate due to its asymptomatic nature and long persistence of infection. Although transcriptomic responses of bovine mammary gland cells to pathogens that cause mastitis have been studied, the common responses of peripheral blood leukocytes to S. aureus infection across two consecutive generations of dairy cattle have not been investigated.Methods: In the current study, RNA-Seq was used to profile the transcriptomes of peripheral blood leukocytes sampled from S. aureus-infected mothers and their S. aureus-infected daughters, and also healthy non-infected mothers and their healthy daughters. Differential gene expression was evaluated as follows: 1) S. aureus-infected cows versus healthy non-infected cows(S vs. H, which include all the mothers and daughters), 2) S. aureus-infected mothers versus healthy non-infected mothers(SM vs. HM), and 3) S. aureus-infected daughters versus healthy noninfected daughters(SMD vs. HMD).Results: Analysis of all identified expressed genes in the four groups(SM, SMD, HM, and HMD) showed that EPOR,IL9, IFNL3, CCL26, IL26 were exclusively expressed in both the HM and HMD groups, and that they were significantly(P < 0.05) enriched for the cytokine-cytokine receptor interaction pathway. A total of 17, 13 and 10 differentially expressed genes(DEGs)(FDR Padj. < 0.1 and |FC| > 1.2) were detected in the three comparisons, respectively. DEGs with P < 0.05 and |FC| > 2 were used for functional enrichment analyses. For the S vs. H comparison, DEGs detected included CCL20, IL13 and MMP3, which are associated with the IL-17 signaling pathway. In the SM vs. HM and SMD vs. HMD comparisons, five(BLA-DQB, C1 R, C2, FCGR1 A, and KRT10) and six(BLA-DQB, C3 AR1, CFI, FCAR, FCGR3 A, and LOC10498484) genes, respectively, were involved in the S. aureus infection pathway.Conclusions: Our study provides insights into the transcriptomic responses of bovine peripheral blood leukocytes across two generations of cattle naturally infected with S. aureus. | 17 | A novel phenotype with splicing mutation identified in a Chinese family with desminopathy显示文摘Background:Desminopathy, a hereditary myofibrillar myopathy, mainly results from the desmin gene (DES) mutations.Desminopathy involves various phenotypes, mainly including different cardiomyopathies, skeletal myopathy, and arrhythmia.Combined with genotype, it helps us precisely diagnose and treat for desminopathy.Methods:Sanger sequencing was used to characterize DES variation, and then a minigene assay was used to verify the effect of splice-site mutation on pre-mRNA splicing.Phenotypes were analyzed based on clinical characteristics associated with desminopathy.Results:A splicing mutation (c.735+1G>T) in DES was detected in the proband.A minigene assay revealed skipping of the whole exon 3 and transcription of abnormal pre-mRNA lacking 32 codons.Another affected family member who carried the identical mutation, was identified with a novel phenotype of desminopathy, non-compaction of ventricular myocardium.There were 2 different phenotypes varied in cardiomyopathy and skeletal myopathy among the 2 patients, but no significant correlation between genotype and phenotype was identified.Conclusions:We reported a novel phenotype with a splicing mutation in DES, enlarging the spectrum of phenotype in desminopathy.Molecular studies of desminopathy should promote our understanding of its pathogenesis and provide a precise molecular diagnosis of this disorder, facilitating clinical prevention and treatment at an early stage. | Peng Fan Chao-Xia Lu Xue-Qi Dong Di Zhu Kun-Qi Yang Ke-Qiang Liu Di Zhang Ying Zhang Xu Meng Hui-Qiong Tan Li-Tian YU Ke-Fei DOU Ya-Xin Liu Xue Zhang Xian-Liang Zhou | 2019 | Chinese Medical Journal2019,,2: | 2 |
| 18 | An Integrated Hydrodynamics and Control Model of A Tethered Underwater Robot显示文摘An integrated hydrodynamics and control model to simulate tethered underwater robot system is proposed. The governing equation of the umbilical cable is based on a finite difference method, the hydrodynamic behaviors of the underwater robot are described by the six-degrees-of-freedom equations of motion for submarine simulations, and a controller based on the fuzzy sliding mode control(FSMC) algorithm is also incorporated. Fluid motion around the main body of moving robot with running control ducted propellers is governed by the Navier–Stokes equations and these nonlinear differential equations are solved numerically via computational fluid dynamics(CFD) technique. The hydrodynamics and control behaviors of the tethered underwater robot under certain designated trajectory and attitude control manipulation are then investigated based on the established hydrodynamics and control model. The results indicate that satisfactory control effect can be achieved and hydrodynamic behavior under the control operation can be observed with the model; much kinematic and dynamic information about tethered underwater robot system can be forecasted, including translational and angular motions of the robot, hydrodynamic loading on the robot, manipulation actions produced by the control propellers, the kinematic and dynamic behaviors of the umbilical cable. | 20 | Early Transcriptomic Adaptation to Na_2CO_3 Stress Altered the Expression of a Quarter of the Total Genes in the Maize Genome and Exhibited Shared and Distinctive Profles with NaCl and High pH Stresses显示文摘Sodium carbonate(Na2CO3)presents a huge challenge to plants by the combined damaging effects of Nat,high pH,and CO32-.Little is known about the cellular responses to Na2CO3stress.In this study,the transcriptome of maize(Zea mays L.cv.B73)roots exposed to Na2CO3stress for 5 h was compared with those of NaCl and NaOH stresses.The expression of 8,319 genes,representing over a quarter of the total number of genes in the maize genome,was altered by Na2CO3stress,and the downregulated genes(5,232)outnumbered the upregulated genes(3,087).The effects of Na2CO3differed from those of NaCl and NaOH,primarily by downregulating different categories of genes.Pathways commonly altered by Na2CO3,NaCl,and NaOH were enriched in phenylpropanoid biosynthesis,oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids,ATP-binding cassette(ABC)transporters,as well as the metabolism of secondary metabolites.Genes for brassinosteroid biosynthesis were specifcally upregulated by Na2CO3,while genes involved in ascorbate and aldarate metabolism,protein processing in the endoplasmic reticulum and by N-glycosylation,fatty acid biosynthesis,and the circadian rhythm were downregulated.This work provides the frst holistic picture of early transcriptomic adaptation to Na2CO3stress,and highlights potential molecular pathways that could be manipulated to improve tolerance in maize. | Li-Min Zhang Xiang-Guo Liu Xin-Ning Qu Ying Yu Si-Ping Han Yao Dou Yao-Yao Xu Hai-Chun Jing Dong-Yun Hao | 2013 | Journal of Integrative Plant Biology2013,55,11: | 2 |
