| 2 | Dynamic membrane bioreactor performance enhancement by powdered activated carbon addition:Evaluation of sludge morphological,aggregative and microbial properties显示文摘The effects of powdered activated carbon(PAC) addition on sludge morphological, aggregative and microbial properties in a dynamic membrane bioreactor(DMBR) were investigated to explore the enhancement mechanism of pollutants removal and filtration performance. Sludge properties were analyzed through various analytical measurements. The results showed that the improved sludge aggregation ability and the evolution of microbial communities affected sludge morphology in PAC-DMBR, as evidenced by the formation of large, regularly shaped and strengthened sludge flocs. The modifications of sludge characteristics promoted the formation process and filtration flux of the dynamic membrane(DM) layer. Additionally, PAC addition did not exert very significant influence on the propagation of eukaryotes(protists and metazoans)and microbial metabolic activity. High-throughput pyrosequencing results indicated that adding PAC improved the bacterial diversity in activated sludge, as PAC addition brought about additional microenvironment in the form of biological PAC(BPAC), which promoted the enrichment of Acinetobacter(13.9%), Comamonas(2.9%), Flavobacterium(0.31%) and Pseudomonas(0.62%), all contributing to sludge flocs formation and several(such as Acinetobacter) capable of biodegrading relatively complex organics. | 3 | Resveratrol compares with melatonin in improving in vitro porcine oocyte maturation under heat stress显示文摘Background: Resveratrol, an important phyto-antioxidant commonly found in grapes, mulberry, and other plants,has a variety of functions including anti-aging, anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory activities. In the current study, we investigated the beneficial effects of resveratrol on in vitro porcine oocyte maturation under heat stress(HS). The effect of resveratrol, melatonin and their combination on alleviating HS was compared according to the maturation rate of oocytes and the development competence of embryos after parthenogenetic activation(PA).Results: Supplementation with resveratrol(2.0 μmol/L) not only improved the nuclear maturation but also raised the blastocyst rate of porcine embryos' PA from oocytes that underwent HS by increasing their glutathione(GSH)level, reducing reactive oxygen species(ROS) and up-regulating the expression of Sirtuin 1(SIRT1). It was also found that melatonin(10^(-7)mol/L) and the combination of resveratrol(2.0 μmol/L) plus melatonin(10^(-7)mol/L) exhibited more potent effects than resveratrol alone regarding their protective activities on oocyte maturation under HS.Conclusions: This study compared the efficiencies of resveratrol, melatonin and their combination for protecting porcine oocytes from heat stress. | 4 | The Arabidopsis B-box protein BZS1/BBX20 interacts with HY5 and mediates strigolactone regulation of photomorphogenesis显示文摘Plant growth is controlled by integration of hormonal and light-signaling pathways. BZS1 is a B-box zinc finger protein previously characterized as a negative regulator in the brassinosteroid(BR)-signaling pathway and a positive regulator in the light-signaling pathway. However, the mechanisms by which BZS1/BBX20 integrates light and hormonal pathways are not fully understood. Here, using a quantitative proteomic workflow, we identified several BZS1-associated proteins, including light-signaling components COP1 and HY5. Direct interactions of BZS1 with COP1 and HY5 were verified by yeast two-hybrid and co-immunoprecipitation assays. Overexpression of BZS1 causes a dwarf phenotype that is suppressed by the hy5 mutation, while overexpression of BZS1 fused with the SRDX transcription repressor domain(BZS1-SRDX) causes a long-hypocotyl phenotype similar to hy5, indicating that BZS1's function requires HY5. BZS1 positively regulates HY5 expression, whereas HY5 negatively regulates BZS1 protein level, forming a feedback loop that potentially contributes to signaling dynamics. In contrast to BR,strigolactone(SL) increases BZS1 level, whereas the SL responses of hypocotyl elongation, chlorophyll and HY5 accumulation are diminished in the BZS1-SRDX seedlings, indicating that BZS1 is involved in these SL responses. | 6 | Reversing cold tumors to hot: An immunoadjuvant-functionalized metalorganic framework for multimodal imaging-guided synergistic photoimmunotherapy显示文摘Immunotherapy assays using immunoadjuvants and tumor antigens could greatly increase the survival rates of patients with malignant tumors.As effective carriers,metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)have been widely utilized in cancer therapy due to their remarkable histocompatibility and low toxicity.Herein,we constructed a multimodal imaging-guided synergistic cancer photoimmunotherapy by employing a specific MOF(MIL101-NH2)as the core carrier;the MOF was dual-dressed with photoacoustic and fluorescent signal donors(indocyanine green,ICG)and immune adjuvants(cytosine-phosphate-guanine sequence,CpG)and named ICGCpG@MOF.This nanocarrier could passively target the tumor site through the EPR effect and achieve multimodal imaging(fluorescence,photoacoustic,photothermal and magnetic resonance imaging)of the tumor.Synergistic cancer photoimmunotherapy was achieved via simultaneous photodynamic and photothermal methods with 808 nm laser irradiation.ICG-CpG@MOF achieved the GSH-controlled release of immunoadjuvant into the tumor microenvironment.Furthermore,the released tumor-associated antigen along with CpG could induce the transformation of tumor cells from cold to hot by activating the immune system,which significantly enhanced tumor cytotoxicity and achieved high cure rates with minimal side-effects.This strategy utilizing multimodal imaging and synergistic cancer photoimmunotherapy provides a promising approach for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer. | Zhijin Fan Hongxing Liu Yaohua Xue Jingyan Lin Yu Fu Zhaohua Xia Dongming Pan Jian Zhang Kun Qiao Zhenzhen Zhang Yuhui Liao | 2021 | Bioactive Materials2021,6,2: | 4 |

| 8 | Effect of mesopores on solidification of sirolimus self-microemulsifying drug delivery system显示文摘To investigate the influence of mesopores towards the solidification of self-microemulsifying drug delivery system(SMEDDS), mesoporous silica nanospheres(MSNs) and Santa Barbara Amorphous-15(SBA-15) were compared. The MSNs had hydrodynamic size of 195.35 ± 5.82 nm, and pore diameter of 2.70 nm. The SBA-15 had hydrodynamic size of 2312.19 ± 106.93 nm, and pore diameter of 10.91 nm. The MSNs and SBA-15 showed similar loading efficiency of SMEDDS containing sirolimus(SRL). However,MSNs had higher drug dissolution and in vivo absorption, with relative bioavailability of 174.62%. Thus,the length of mesopores played a more important role in solidification of SMEDDS as compared with the pore diameter. | 12 | Cation-vacancy induced Li+ intercalation pseudocapacitance at atomically thin heterointerface for high capacity and high power lithium-ion batteries显示文摘It is challenging to create cation vacancies in electrode materials for enhancing the performance of rechargeable lithium ion batteries (LIBs). Herein, we utilized a strong alkaline etching method to successfully create Co vacancies at the interface of atomically thin Co_(3−x)O_(4)/graphene@CNT heterostructure for high-energy/power lithium storage. The creation of Co-vacancies in the sample was confirmed by high-resolution scanning transmission electron microscope (HRSTEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electron energy loss near-edge structures (ELNES). The obtained Co_(3−x)O_(4)/graphene@CNT delivers an ultra-high capacity of 1688.2 mAh g^(−1) at 0.2 C, excellent rate capability of 83.7% capacity retention at 1 C, and an ultralong life up to 1500 cycles with a reversible capacity of 1066.3 mAh g^(−1). Reaction kinetic study suggests a significant contribution from pseudocapacitive storage induced by the Co-vacancies at the Co_(3−x)O_(4)/graphene@CNT interface.
