| 4 | Timing and splitting of nitrogen fertilizer supply to increase crop yield and efficiency of nitrogen utilization in a wheat–peanut relay intercropping system in China显示文摘Agronomically optimizing the timing and rates of nitrogen(N) fertilizer application can increase crop yield and decrease N loss to the environment. Wheat(Triticum aestivum L.)–peanut(Arachis hypogaea L.) relay intercropping systems are a mainstay of economic and food security in China. We performed a field experiment to investigate the effects of N fertilizer on N recovery efficiency, crop yield, and N loss rate in wheat–peanut relay intercropping systems in the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain, China during 2015–2017. The N was applied on the day before sowing, the jointing stage(G30) or the booting stage(G40) of winter wheat, and the anthesis stage(R1) of peanut in the following percentage splits: 50-50-0-0(N1), 35-35-0-30(N2), and 35-0-35-30(N3), using 300 kg N ha-1, with 0 kg N ha-1(N0) as control. ^(15)N-labeled(20.14 atom %) urea was used to trace the fate of N in microplots. The yields of wheat and peanut increased by 12.4% and 15.4% under the N2 and N3 treatments, relative to those under the N1 treatment. The ^(15)N recovery efficiencies( ^(15)NRE) were 64.9% and 58.1% for treatments N2 and N3, significantly greater than that for the N1 treatment(45.3%). The potential N loss rates for the treatments N2 and N3 were23.7% and 7.0%, significantly lower than that for treatment N1(30.1%). Withholding N supply until the booting stage(N3) did not reduce the wheat grain yield; however, it increased the N content derived from ^(15)N-labeled urea in peanuts, promoted the distribution of ^(15)N to pods, and ultimately increased pod yields in comparison with those obtained by topdressing N at jointing stage(N2). In comparison with N2, the N uptake and N recovery efficiency(NRE) of N3 was increased by 12.0% and 24.1%,respectively, while the apparent N loss decreased by 16.7%. In conclusion, applying N fertilizer with three splits and delaying topdressing fertilization until G40 of winter wheat increased total grain yields and NRE and reduced N loss. | 5 | Biodrying of municipal solid waste with high water content by combined hydrolytic-aerobic technology显示文摘The high water content of municipal solid waste(MSW)will reduce the effciency of mechanical sorting,consequently unfavorable for beneficial utilization.In this study,a combined hydrolytic-aerobic biodrying technology was introduced to remove water from MSW.The total water removals were proved to depend on the ventilation frequency and the temporal span in the hydrolytic stage. | 6 | Risk assessment of Giardia in rivers of southern China based on continuous monitoring显示文摘The occurrence and risks of Giardia in China have been unclear to date,which has made it difficult to properly manage source water as well as to create reasonable drinking water standards.The levels of Giardia in river networks of several cities in Zhejiang Province,China were found to be in the range of 0-5 oocysts/10 L in the rainy season in 2008.The mortality due to Giardia infection for people in this region was calculated to be from 0 to 1.95 × 10?8 persons using a conditional probability equation.Based on multiple unboiled water intake routes,the disability-adjusted life years(DALYs) due to Giardia infection for people who consumed conventionally treated water was 0.625(95% CI:0.137-2.05) per 105 persons,with the symptom of hospitalization making the highest contribution to total DALYs(0.56 per 105 persons;95% CI:0.122-1.84).The DALYs decreased to 0.425(95% CI:0.137-2.05) per 105 persons per year for those consuming water treated with advanced technology.These values were lower than the acceptable risk(1.97 × 10?5 DALYs per year).This study revealed the risk of Giardia infection to the people in river networks of Zhejiang Province for the first time,and provides a method to evaluate the risk of Giardia infection.The results are useful for the modification of drinking water quality standards based on cost-benefit analysis. | Wei An Dongqing Zhang Shumin Xiao Jianwei Yu Min Yang | 2012 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2012,24,2: | 8 |

| 12 | Effects of d-Phenylalanine as a biocide enhancer of THPS against the microbiologically influenced corrosion of C1018 carbon steel显示文摘Microbiologically influenced corrosion(MIC) is caused by biofilms such as those of sulfate reducing bacteria(SRB). To mitigate MIC, biocide treatment is often needed. Tetrakis(hydroxymethyl) phosphonium sulfate(THPS) is an environmentally friendly biocide that is often used in the oil and gas industry. However, its prolonged use leads to biocide resistance, leading to dosage escalation. A biocide enhancer can be used to slow down the trend. In recent years, d-amino acids have been investigated as an enhancer for THPS and other biocides. Published works used anaerobic vials and flow devices, which could not reveal the real-time changes of the biocide treatment on corrosion. In this work, it was proven that the biocide enhancement effects of d-Phenylalanine(d-Phe) on THPS against the Desulfovibrio vulgaris biofilm on C1018 carbon steels could be assessed in real time using linear polarization resistance and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy to collaborate sessile cell count, weight loss and pitting depth data. The results showed that 500 ppm(w/w) d-Phe effectively enhanced 80 ppm THPS against MIC by the D. vulgaris(a corrosive SRB) biofilm. | 13 | Astragalus injection inhibits c-Jun N terminal kinase mRNA expression following oxygen-glucose deprivation and reintroduction in rat hippocampal neurons显示文摘BACKGROUND:In studies concerning cell injury induced by cerebral ischemia-reperfusion,current experiments have primarily focused on altered protein levels.In addition,the apoptotic proteins Bax and Bcl-2 have been thoroughly studied with regard to initiating neuronal apoptosis. OBJECTIVE:To establish an in vitro model of oxygen-glucose deprivation and reintroduction in the rat hippocampus to simulate cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury;to observe c-Jun N-terminal kinase 3(JNK3) mRNA expression in hippocampal neurons following Astragalus injection;and thus to determine changes in the signaling and downstream pathways of neuronal apoptosis at the cellular and molecular level. DESIGN,TIME AND SETTING:A randomized,controlled,cellular and molecular experiment was performed at the Department of Central Laboratory,Chengde Medical College from February to June 2008. MATERIALS:Astragalus injection,the main ingredient of astragaloside,was purchased from Chengdu Di'ao Jiuhong Pharmaceutical Manufactory,China.JNK3 mRNA probe and in situ hybridization kit were purchased from Tianjin Haoyang Biological Technology,China,and JNK3 RT-PCR primers were designed by Shanghai Bio-engineering,China. METHODS:Primary cultures of hippocampal neurons derived from Sprague Dawley rats,aged 1-2 days,were established.After 8 days,the hippocampal neurons were assigned to the following interventions:model group,Astragalus group,and vehicle control group,cells were subjected to oxygen-glucose reintroduction after oxygen-glucose deprivation for 30 minutes in sugar-free Earle's solution and a hypoxia device,which contained high-purity nitrogen.The normal control group was subjected to primary culture techniques and was not treated using above-mentioned interventions. In addition,the Astragalus and vehicle control groups were treated with Astragalus injection(0.5 g/L raw drug) or sterile,deionized water at 2 hours prior to oxygen-glucose deprivation,respectively. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:JNK3 mRNA expression was measured by in situ hybridization and RT-PCR at 0,0.5,2,6,24,72,and 120 hours after oxygen-glucose reintroduction. RESULTS:Hippocampal neuronal morphology was normal in the normal control group. Hippocampal neurons exhibited apparent apoptosis-like pathological changes in the model,as well as the vehicle control,groups.The apoptosis-like pathological changes in the hippocampal neurons were less in the Astragalus group.Results from in situ hybridization and RT-PCR showed that JNK3 mRNA expression significantly increased in hippocampal neurons from model group,as well as the vehicle control group,compared with the normal control group(P<0.05).In addition,JNK3 mRNA expression significantly decreased in hippocampal neurons of the Astragalus group,compared with the model group and vehicle control group(P<0.05). | 15 | Concrete durability under different circumstances based on multi-factor effects显示文摘Concrete durability has become a hot research field in civil engineering. Concrete structures suffer salt-erosion damage to different degrees in the semi-arid region of North China. The environmental condition is one of the important factors affecting the durability of concrete constructions. To realize fully the interaction between various environmental factors, this paper researched concrete durability in the salt environment under combined actions(immersing, freeze–thaw cycles, and wet–dry cycles). According to the laboratory test data, the concrete-durability degradation law under coupling-effect factors was investigated. The results show that concrete's compressive strength decreases with the increase of salt concentration and immersion time. No matter what the environmental conditions were, the compressive strength-loss ratio increased with the test time. The compressive strength-test results indicate that sodium sulfate has the strongest corrosive effect on concrete durability, followed by calcium chloride, with sodium chloride having the weakest corrosion. Compared with the other two environmental factors, the wet–dry cycle is the key factor affecting concrete durability. While it iswell known that inflammatory stimuli induce the functional maturation of immature DCs, whether adhesion molecule selectins regulate DCmaturation is poorly understood. Using anti-P-selectin lectin-EGF domain monoclonal antibody (PsL-EGFmAb) that blocks the adhesionof P-, E-, and L-selectin, we demonstrate herein that selectins play important role in stimulating functional maturation of immature DCs.Immature DCs are generated from human cord blood CD34+hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells that were cultured in the presence of stemcell factor, Fms-like tyrosine-kinase-3 ligand, granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor, and transform growth factor-β1. Whenstimulated with tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α), immature DCs differentiated into mature DCs, producing increased levels of costim-ulatory molecules and interleukin (IL)-12 and obtaining the ability to potently activate naive Tcells. Interestingly, in contrast to matureDCs derived from TNF-α-induced immature DC cultures without PsL-EGFmAb, immature DCs treated with PsL-EGFmAb for7 days werecompletely blocked their maturation, as evidenced by decreased expression of costimulatory molecules CD80, CD86, and CD83, inhibi-ted production of IL-12, and inability to activate naive Tcellsin vitro. | 17 | An experimental study on the relationship between acoustic parameters and mechanical properties of frozen silty clay显示文摘To study the influence of temperature and water content on ultrasonic wave velocity and to establish the relationship between ultrasonic wave velocity and frozen silty clay strength, ultrasonic tests were conducted to frozen silty clay by using RSM-SY5(T) nonmetal supersonic test meter, and the tensile strength and compressive strength of silty clay were measured under various negative temperatures. Test and analysis results indicate that, ultrasonic wave velocity rapidly changes in the temperature range of 1 °C to 5 °C. Ultrasonic wave velocity increased with an increase of water content until the water content reached the critical water content, while decreased with an increase of water content after the water content exceeded the critical water content. This study showed that there was strong positive correlation between the ultrasonic wave velocity and the frozen soil strength. As ultrasonic wave velocity increased, either tensile strength or compressive strength increased. Based on the experimental data, the relationship between ultrasonic wave velocity and frozen silty clay strength was obtained through regression analysis. Emerging evidence has revealed that a group of B-box proteins (BBXs) function as central players in these light-mediated developmental processes. B-box proteins are a class of zinc-coordinated transcription factors or regulators that not only directly mediate the transcription of target genes but also interact with various other factors to create a complex regulatory network involved in the precise control of plant growth and development.
