Assessing environmental factors associated with regional schistosomiasis prevalence in Anhui Province,Peoples’Republic of China using a geographical detector method显示文摘Background:Schistosomiasis is a water-borne disease caused by trematode worms belonging to genus Schistosoma, which is prevalent most of the developing world.Transmission of the disease is usually associated with multiple biological characteristics and social factors but also factors can play a role.Few studies have assessed the exact and interactive influence of each factor promoting schistosomiasis transmission. Methods:We used a series of different detectors(i.e.,specific detector, risk detector, ecological detector and interaction detector)to evaluate separate and interactive effects of the environmental factors on schistosomiasis prevalence.Specifically,(i)specific detector quantifies the impact of a risk factor on an observed spatial disease pattern, which were ranked statistically by a value of Power of Determinate(PD)calculation;(ii)risk detector detects high risk areas of a disease on the condition that the study area is stratified by a potential risk factor;(iii)ecological detector explores whether a risk factor is more significant than another in controlling the spatial pattern of a disease;(iv)interaction detector probes whether two risk factors when taken together weaken or enhance one another,or whether they are independent in developing a disease.Infection data of schistosomiasis based on conventional surveys were obtained at the county level from the health authorities in Anhui Province,China and used in combination with information from Chinese weather stations and internationally available environmental data. Results:The specific detector identified various factors of potential importance as follows:Proximity to Yangtze River(0.322)>Land cover(0.285)>sunshine hours(0.256)>population density(0.109)>altitude(0.090)>the normalized different vegetation index(NDVI)(0.077)>land surface temperature at daytime(LST_(day))(0.007).The risk detector indicated that areas of schistosomiasis high risk were located within a buffer distance of 50 km from Yangtze River. The ecological detector disclosed that the factors investigated have significantly different effects. The interaction detector revealed that interaction between the factors enhanced their main effects in most cases. Conclusion:Proximity to Yangtze River had the strongest effect on schistosomiasis prevalence followed by land cover and sunshine hours, while the remaining factors had only weak influence.Interaction between factors played an even more important role in influencing schistosomiasis prevalence than each factor on its own.High risk regions influenced by strong interactions need to be targeted for disease control intervention. | Yi Hu Congcong Xia Shizhu Li Michael PWard Can Luo Fenghua Gao Qizhi Wang Shiqing Zhang Zhijie Zhang | 2017 | Infectious Diseases of Poverty2017,6,1: | 9

Quercetin attenuates the progression of monocrotaline-induced pulmonary hypertension in rats显示文摘Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a progressive disease associated with increased constriction and remodeling of the pulmonary vasculature.Quercetin is a natural flavonoid and has a variety of pharmacological effects including improvement of endothelial cell function. However, its pharmacological effects on pulmonary hypertension have been rarely reported. We sought to observe the protective effect of quercetin in rats with monocrotaline induced PAH.We divided 30 male Sprague-Dawley rats randomly into three groups with ten rats in each group:the monocrotaline group, the quercetin group and the control group. We found that, compared with the controls, the mean pulmonary artery pressure (mPAP) and the right ventricular hypertrophy index in the monocrotaline group were significantly higher (P < 0.01).Quercetin caused a significant reduction both in the mPAP and right ventricular hypertrophy index compared with the monocrotaline group (P < 0.01) while no difference was found between the quercetin group and the control group (P > 0.05).Monocrotaline induced a marked increase in the wall thickness (WT) in small and mid-sized pulmonary arteries compared with the controls (P < 0.01).Monocrotaline also induced a marked increase in the wall area (WA) in small [(56.38±6.65)% in monocrotaline vs.(19.80±4.63)% in control] and mid-sized [(43.71±5.38)% in monocrotaline vs.(14.24±3.66)% in control] pulmonary arteries (P < 0.01).Quercetin treatment markedly reduced monocrotaline induced increase in both WT and WA (P < 0.01),which,however,still remained significantly elevated compared with those of the controls (P < 0.01).Furthermore,compared with controls, proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) expression in the pulmonary artery tissues was markedly increased by monocrotaline [(45.59±1.27) in monocrotaline vs.(9.64±0.69) in controls],which was significantly attenuated by quercetin. Our animal experiment indicated that quercetin could have protective effects on monocrotaline-induced PAH. | Hanhua Gao Can Chen Shi'an Huang Bo Li | 2012 | The Journal of Biomedical Research2012,26,2: | 4

Optical fiber SPR biosensor complying with a 3D composite hyperbolic metamaterial and a graphene film显示文摘In the present study, an optical fiber surface plasmon resonance(SPR) biosensor was developed for measuring time-and concentration-dependent DNA hybridization kinetics. Its design complies with a 3D Au∕Al2O3 multilayer composite hyperbolic metamaterial(HMM), a graphene film, and a D-shaped plastic optical fiber.According to the numerical simulation and the experimental demonstration, the SPR peak of the designed biosensor can be effectively altered in the range of visible to near-infrared by varying the HMM structure. The sensitivity of the appliance was shown to achieve a value of up to 4461 nm/RIU, allowing its applicability for bulk refractive index sensing. Furthermore, a biosensor designed in this work displayed high-resolution capability(ranging from 10 pM to 100 nM), good linearity, and high repeatability along with a detection limit down to 10 pM, thus suggesting a vast potential for medical diagnostics and clinical applications. | Can Li Jinjuan Gao Muhammad Shafi Runcheng Liu Zhipeng Zha Dejun Feng Mei Liu Xuejian Du Weiwei Yue Shouzhen Jiang | 2021 | Photonics Research2021,9,3: | 3

Joint source channel VL coding/decoding for deep space communication networks based on a space trellis显示文摘This paper presents joint source channel variable length (VL) coding/decoding based on a space trellis.Through constructing a joint decoding plane trellis, better decoding performance can be achieved than by using the bit-level decoding algorithm. However, the plane trellis is complicated, which results in high decoding complexity for decoding VL turbo codes. To solve this problem,we construct a space trellis and design a low-complexity joint decoding algorithm with a variable length symbol-a posteriori probability (VLS-APP) algorithm in resource constrained deep space communication networks.Simulation results show that the proposed approach reduces the decoding complexity by 10% compared with the plane trellis, and the gain of Eb/N0 is about 0.2 dB at SER=10-4.Furthermore,it provides substantial error protection for variable-length encoded image data. | WU WeiRen TU Juan TU GuoFang GAO ShaoShuai ZHANG Can | 2011 | Science China(Information Sciences)2011,54,9: | 2

Effects of frustration on explosive synchronization显示文摘In this study, we consider the emergence of explosive synchronization in scale-free networks by con-sidering the Kuramoto model of coupled phase oscillators. The natural frequencies of oscillators areassumed to be correlated with their degrees and frustration is included in the system. This assumptioncan enhance or delay the explosive transition to synchronization. Interestingly, a de-synchronizationphenomenon occurs and the type of phase transition is also changed. Furthermore, we provide an ana-lytical treatment based on a star graph, which resembles that obtained in scale-free networks. Finally,a self-consistent approach is implemented to study the de-synchronization regime. Our findings haveimportant implications for controlling synchronization in complex networks because frustration is acontrollable parameter in experiments and a discontinuous abrupt phase transition is always dangerousin engineering in the real world. | Xia Huang Jian Gao Yu-Ting Sun Zhi-Gang Zheng Can Xu | 2016 | Frontiers of physics2016,11,6: | 2
In-situ generation and global property profiling of metal nanoclusters by ultraviolet laser dissociation-mass spectrometry显示文摘Metal nanoclusters are promising nanomaterials with unique properties, but only a few ones with specific numbers of metal atoms can be obtained and studied up to now. In this study, we establish a new paradigm of in-situ generation and global study of metal nanoclusters with different sizes, constitutions, and charge states, including both accurate constitution characterization and global activity profiling. The complex mixtures of metal nanoclusters are produced by employing single-pulsed 193-nm laser dissociation of monolayer-protected cluster(MPC) precursors within a high-resolution mass spectrometry(HRMS). More than400 types of bare gold nanoclusters including novel multiply charged(2+ and 3+), S-/P-doped, and silver alloy ones can be efficiently generated and accurately characterized. A distinct size(1 to 142 atoms)-and charge(1+ to 3+)-hierarchy reactivity is clearly observed for the first time. | 18 | Gold nanoparticle-directed autophagy intervention for antitumor immunotherapy via inhibiting tumor-associated macrophage M2 polarization显示文摘Tumor-associated macrophages(TAMs),one of the dominating constituents of tumor microenvironment, are important contributors to cancer progression and treatment resistance. Therefore, regulation of TAMs polarization from M2 phenotype towards M1 phenotype has emerged as a new strategy for tumor immunotherapy.Herein,we successfully initiated antitumor immunotherapy by inhibiting TAMs M2 polarization via autophagy intervention with polyethylene glycol-conjugated gold nanoparticles(PEG-Au NPs).PEG-Au NPs suppressed TAMs M2 polarization in both in vitro and in vivo models, elicited antitumor immunotherapy and inhibited subcutaneous tumor growth in mice.As demonstrated by the m RFP-GFP-LC3 assay and analyzing the autophagy-related proteins(LC3,beclin1 and P62),PEGAu NPs induced autophagic flux inhibition in TAMs,which is attributed to the PEG-Au NPs induced lysosome alkalization and membrane permeabilization.Besides,TAMs were prone to polarize towards M2phenotype following autophagy activation, whereas inhibition of autophagic flux could reduce the M2polarization of TAMs.Our results revealed a mechanism underlying PEG-Au NPs induced antitumor immunotherapy, where PEG-Au NPs reduce TAMs M2 polarization via induction of lysosome dysfunction and autophagic flux inhibition. This study elucidated the biological effects of nanomaterials on TAMs polarization and provided insight into harnessing the intrinsic immunomodulation capacity of nanomaterials for effective cancer treatment. | Siyue Zhang Fangyuan Xie Kaichun Li He Zhang You Yin Yuan Yu Guangzhao Lu Shihao Zhang Yan Wei Ke Xu Yan Wu Hong Jin Lan Xiao Leilei Bao Can Xu Yulin Li Ying Lu Jie Gao | 2022 | Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B2022,12,7: | 2

HYDROGEN TRANSFER IN CATALYTIC CRACKING显示文摘Hydrogen transfer is an important secondary reaction of catalytic cracking reactions, which affects product yield distribution and product quality. It is an exothermic reaction with low activation energy around 43.3 kJ/mol. Catalyst properties and operation parameters in catalytic cracking greatly influence the hydrogen transfer reaction. Satisfactory results are expected through careful selection of proper catalysts and operation conditions.Fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) is one of the major refining processes for converting vacuum distillates and residues into gas, high octane gasoline and diesel fuels over solid acidic catalysts. Cracking catalyst promotes cracking reactions, the reaction mechanism can be explained by carbonium ion theory [1] . Hydrogen transfer is a bimolecular reaction which requires two adjacent acid sites, where hydrogen usually transfers from a heavier hydrocarbon molecule to a lighter alkene molecule, the latter desorbs as an isoalkane molecule, and the former that donates hydrogen becomes more aromatic and finally coke [2] . Hydrogen transfer activity has long been recognized as relating to the acid site density of the catalyst. Thus the alkene content and composition of cracked naphtha and of product gas are expected to be adjusted by hydrogen transfer reaction occurred in FCC process. In this study, many factors affecting hydrogen transfer reaction, such as different kinds of zeolite catalysts used, reaction temperature, reaction time and coke deposit, were investigated. It will be helpful for the refiners to control proper extent of hydrogen transfer reaction in FCC process operation to adapt to different purposes and various options, such as maximizing gasoline yield, maximizing or minimizing olefins in gasoline, maximizing or minimizing gas olefins or iso olefins in product etc.. | GAO Yong can, ZHANG Jiu shun (Research Institute of Petroleum Processing, Beijing 100083, China) | 2001 | 石油学报(石油加工)2001,17,1: | 2
