1Adsorption of heavy metal ions from aqueous solution by carboxylated cellulose nanocrystals显示文摘A novel nanoadsorbent for the removal of heavy metal ions is reported.Cotton was first hydrolyzed to obtain cellulose nanocrystals(CNCs).CNCs were then chemically modified with succinic anhydride to obtain SCNCs.The sodic nanoadsorbent(NaSCNCs) was further prepared by treatment of SCNCs with saturated NaHCO 3 aqueous solution.Batch experiments were carried out with SCNCs and NaSCNCs for the removal of Pb 2+ and Cd 2+.The effects of contact time,pH,initial adsorption concentration,coexisting ions and the regeneration performance were investigated.Kinetic studies showed that the adsorption equilibrium time of Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ was reached within 150 min on SCNCs and 5 min on NaSCNCs.The adsorption capacities of Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ on SCNCs and NaSCNCs increased with increasing pH.The adsorption isotherm was well fitted by the Langmuir model.The maximum adsorption capacities of SCNCs and NaSCNCs for Pb 2+ and Cd 2+ were 367.6 mg/g,259.7 mg/g and 465.1 mg/g,344.8 mg/g,respectively.SCNCs and NaSCNCs showed high selectivity and interference resistance from coexisting ions for the adsorption of Pb 2+.NaSCNCs could be efficiently regenerated with a mild saturated NaCl solution with no loss of capacity after two recycles.The adsorption mechanisms of SCNCs and NaSCNCs were discussed.Xiaolin Yu Shengrui Tong Maofa Ge Lingyan Wu Junchao Zuo Changyan Cao Weiguo Song 2013Journal of Environmental Sciences2013,25,5:29
2Effects of Tai Ji Quan training on gait kinematics in older Chinese women with knee osteoarthritis: A randomized controlled trial显示文摘Background: Although Tai Ji Quan has been shown to relieve pain and improve functional mobility in people with knee osteoarthritis(OA), little is known about its potential benefits on gait characteristics among older Chinese women who have a high prevalence of both radiographic and symptomatic knee OA. This study aims to assess the efficacy of a tailored Tai Ji Quan intervention on gait kinematics for older Chinese women with knee OA.Methods: A randomized controlled trial involving 46 older women in Shanghai, China, with clinically diagnosed knee OA. Randomized(1:1)participants received either a 60 min Tai Ji Quan session(n = 23) 3 times weekly or a 60 min bi-weekly educational session(n = 23) for 24 weeks.Primary outcomes were changes in gait kinematic measures from baseline to 24 weeks. Secondary outcomes included changes in scores on the Western Ontario and Mc Master University Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAC) and Short Physical Performance Battery(SPPB).Results: After 24 weeks the Tai Ji Quan group demonstrated better performance in gait velocity(mean difference, 8.40 cm/s, p = 0.01), step length(mean difference, 3.52 cm, p = 0.004), initial contact angle(mean difference, 2.19°, p = 0.01), and maximal angle(mean difference, 2.61°,p = 0.003) of flexed knees during stance phase compared to the control group. In addition, the Tai Ji Quan group showed significant improvement in WOMAC scores(p < 0.01)(mean difference,-4.22 points in pain, p = 0.002;-2.41 points in stiffness, p < 0.001;-11.04 points in physical function, p = 0.006) and SPPB scores(mean difference, 1.22 points, p < 0.001).Conclusion: Among older Chinese women with knee OA, a tailored Tai Ji Quan intervention improved gait outcomes. The intervention also improved overall function as indexed by the WOMAC and SPPB. 3Understanding primary and secondary sources of ambient oxygenated volatile organic compounds in Shenzhen utilizing photochemical age-based parameterization method显示文摘Oxygenated volatile organic compounds(OVOCs) are key intermediates in the atmospheric photooxidation process. To further study the primary and secondary sources of OVOCs,their ambient levels were monitored using a proton-transfer reaction mass spectrometer(PTR-MS) at an urban site in the Pearl River Delta of China. Continuous monitoring campaigns were conducted in the spring, summer, fall, and winter of 2016. Among the six types of OVOC species, the mean concentrations of methanol were the highest in each season(up to 13–20 ppbv), followed by those of acetone, acetaldehyde and acetic acid(approximately 2–4 ppbv), while those of formic acid and methyl ethyl ketone(MEK) were the lowest(approximately 1–2 ppbv). As observed from a diurnal variation chart, the OVOCs observed in Shenzhen may have been affected by numerous factors such as their primary and secondary sources and photochemical consumption. The photochemical age-based parameterization method was used to apportion the sources of ambient OVOCs. Methanol had significant anthropogenic primary sources but negligible anthropogenic secondary sources during all of the seasons. Acetone, MEK and acetic acid were mostly attributed to anthropogenic primary sources during each season with smaller contributions from anthropogenic secondary sources. 4Characterizing oxygenated volatile organic compounds and their sources in rural atmospheres in China显示文摘Oxygenated volatile organic compounds(OVOCs) are important precursors and products of atmospheric secondary pollution. The sources of OVOCs, however, are still quite uncertain,especially in the atmosphere with much pollution in China. To study the sources of OVOCs in rural atmospheres, a proton transfer reaction mass spectrometry(PTR-MS) was deployed at a northern rural site(WD) and a southern rural site(YMK) in China during the summer of 2014 and 2016, respectively. The continuous observation showed that the mean concentration of TVOCs(totally 17 VOCs) measured at WD(52.4 ppbv) was far higher than that at YMK(11.1 ppbv), and the OVOCs were the most abundant at both the two sites. The diurnal variations showed that local sources of OVOCs were still prominent at WD, while regional transport influenced YMK much. The photochemical age-based parameterization method was then used to quantitatively apportion the sources of ambient OVOCs. The anthropogenic primary sources at WD and YMK contributed less(2%–16%) to each OVOC species. At both the sites, the atmospheric background had a dominant contribution(~ 50%) to acetone and formic acid, while the anthropogenic secondary formation was the main source(~ 40%) of methanol and MEK. For acetaldehyde and acetic acid, the biogenic sources were their largest source(~ 40%) at WD, while the background(39%) and anthropogenic secondary formation(42%) were their largest sources at YMK, respectively. 6Effect of chronic corticosterone-induced depression on circadian rhythms and age-related phenotypes in mice显示文摘Disrupted circadian rhythms are a recognized effect of depression,and our previous article demonstrated an association between depression and premature aging,but the underlying mechanisms are not well understood.In the present study,we used a mouse model of chronic corticosterone (CORT)-treated depression to elucidate a mechanism by which depression may be associated with the circadian clock and mediate age-related phenotypes.Mice received a daily injection of 20 mg/kg CORT for 21 consecutive days,and the depression-like behaviors of mice were identified by the sucrose intake test,tail suspension test and open field test.Our findings indicated that CORT injection may be correlatedwith the circadian clock by impairing circadian rhythms or shifting the phase values of clock genes.We also showed that CORT-treated mice exhibited a significant gradual reduction in body weight gain with increased oxidative stress, including reduced activity of antioxidant-related enzymes,reduced glutathione:glutathione disulfide ratio and cytochrome (Cyt)-C level,and elevated reactive oxygen species content.Moreover, chronic CORT injection affected inflammatory responses,the production of mitochondrial ATP and telomere shortening,which may be associated with the Sirtuin 3 (SIRT3)signaling pathway. 8Syntenic quantitative trait loci and genomic divergence for Sclerotinia resistance and ?owering time in Brassica napus显示文摘Oilseed rape(Brassica napus) is an allotetraploid with two subgenomes descended from a common ancestor. Accordingly, its genome contains syntenic regions with many duplicate genes, some of which may have retained their original functions, whereas others may have diverged. Here, we mapped quantitative trait loci(QTL) for stem rot resistance(SRR), a disease caused by the fungus Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, and flowering time(FT) in a recombinant inbred line population. The population was genotyped using B.napus 60 K single nucleotide polymorphism arrays and phenotyped in six(FT) and nine(SSR) experimental conditions or environments. In total, we detected 30 SRR QTL and 22 FT QTL and show that some of the major QTL associated with these two traits were co-localized,suggesting a genetic linkage between them. Two SRR QTL on chromosome A2 and two on chromosome C2 were shown to be syntenic, suggesting the functional conservation of these regions. We used the syntenic properties of the genomic regions to exclude genes for selection candidates responsible for QTL-associated traits. For example, 152 of the 185 genes could be excluded from a syntenic A2–C2 region. 9Effect of Taijiquan practice versus wellness education on knee pro-prioception in patients with knee osteoarthritis:a randomized con-trolled trial显示文摘OBJECTIVE: To determine the effects of Taijiquan practice on knee proprioception in patients with knee osteoarthritis(OA).METHODS: We conducted a randomized controlled trial comparing Taijiquan with a control condition(wellness education) in patients with knee OA. The patients participated in either a 60-min Taijiquan session three times weekly or a 60-min weekly educational session, for 24 consecutive weeks. The primary outcomes were changes in knee proprioception. Secondary outcomes were changes in the Western Ontario and Mc Master University Osteoarthritis Index(WOMAC).RESULTS: After 24 weeks, compared with the control group, the Taijiquan group demonstrated better improvements in the joint position sense in knee flexion(left:-2.12°; right:-2.02°), and knee extension(left:-2.22°; right:-1.54°). In addition,the Taijiquan group showed significantly greater improvements in the WOMAC scores(P < 0.05) for knee pain(left:-3.17 points; right:-3.74 points),stiffness(left:-2.43 points; right:-2.13 points),and physical function(left:-10.99 points; right:-8.00 points), compared with the control group.CONCLUSION: A 24-week Taijiquan practice resulted in a significant improvement in knee proprioception in patients with knee OA. 11HIV-1 Vif suppresses antiviral immunity by targeting STING显示文摘HIV-1 infection-induced cGAS–STING–TBK1–IRF3 signaling activates innate immunity to produce type I interferon(IFN).The HIV-1 nonstructural protein viral infectivity factor(Vif)is essential in HIV-1 replication,as it degrades the host restriction factor APOBEC3G.However,whether and how it regulates the host immune response remains to be determined.In this study,we found that Vif inhibited the production of type I IFN to promote immune evasion.HIV-1 infection induced the activation of the host tyrosine kinase FRK,which subsequently phosphorylated the immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motif(ITIM)of Vif and enhanced the interaction between Vif and the cellular tyrosine phosphatase SHP-1 to inhibit type I IFN.Mechanistically,the association of Vif with SHP-1 facilitated SHP-1 recruitment to STING and inhibited the K63-linked ubiquitination of STING at Lys337 by dephosphorylating STING at Tyr162.However,the FRK inhibitor D-65495 counteracted the phosphorylation of Vif to block the immune evasion of HIV-1 and antagonize infection.These findings reveal a previously unknown mechanism through which HIV-1 evades antiviral immunity via the ITIM-containing protein to inhibit the posttranslational modification of STING.These results provide a molecular basis for the development of new therapeutic strategies to treat HIV-1 infection.Yu Wang Gui Qian Lingyan Zhu Zhuo Zhao Yinan Liu Wendong Han Xiaokai Zhang Yihua Zhang Tingrong Xiong Hao Zeng Xianghui Yu Xiaofang Yu Xiaoyan Zhang Jianqing Xu Quanming Zou Dapeng Yan 2022Cellular & Molecular Immunology2022,19,1:2

15Biocompatible reduced graphene oxide stimulated BMSCs induce acceleration of bone remodeling and orthodontic tooth movement through promotion on osteoclastogenesis and angiogenesis显示文摘We has synthesized the biocompatible gelatin reduced graphene oxide(GOG)in previous research,and in this study we would further evaluate its effects on bone remodeling in the aspects of osteoclastogenesis and angiogenesis so as to verify its impact on accelerating orthodontic tooth movement.The mouse orthodontic tooth movement(OTM)model tests in vivo showed that the tooth movement was accelerated in the GOG local injection group with more osteoclastic bone resorption and neovascularization compared with the PBS injection group.The analysis on the degradation of GOG in bone marrow stromal stem cells(BMSCs)illustrated its good biocompatibility in vitro and the accumulation of GOG in spleen after local injection of GOG around the teeth in OTM model in vivo also didn’t influence the survival and life of animals.The co-culture of BMSCs with hematopoietic stem cells(HSCs)or human umbilical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs)in transwell chamber systems were constructed to test the effects of GOG stimulated BMSCs on osteoclastogenesis and angiogenesis in vitro.With the GOG stimulated BMSCs co-culture in upper chamber of transwell,the HSCs in lower chamber manifested the enhanced osteoclastogenesis.Meanwhile,the co-culture of GOG stimulated BMSCs with HUVECs showed a promotive effect on the angiogenic ability of HUVECs.The mechanism analysis on the biofunctions of the GOG stimulated BMSCs illustrated the important regulatory effects of PERK pathway on osteoclastogenesis and angiogenesis.All the results showed the biosecurity of GOG and the biological functions of GOG stimulated BMSCs in accelerating bone remodeling and tooth movement.Delong Jiao Jing Wang Wenting Yu Ke Zhang Ning Zhang Lingyan Cao Xinquan Jiang Yuxing Bai 2022Bioactive Materials2022,7,9:1

17Comparative experiment on layered Li(Ni_(1/3)Co_(1/3)Mn_(1/3))O_2 as the alternative material for LiCoO_2显示文摘The characteristics and electrochemical properties of the layered Li(Ni_(1/3)Co_(1/3)Mn_(1/3))O_2 have been investigated by using the X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and cyclic voltammograms (CV). The Li(Ni_(1/3)Co_(1/3)Mn_(1/3))O_2 powders were synthesized by coprecipitation method. The as-synthesized Li(Ni_(1/3)Co_(1/3)Mn_(1/3))O_2 has well-shaped crystals with a uniform particle size distribution at ~500 nm. A reversible discharge capacity of 165 mAh/g at a current of 40 mA/g between 2.7-4.35 V, with stable cycling performance has been obtained. Moreover, the discharge capacity rises up to 190 mAh/g, when the cutoff voltage increases to 4.6 V. The excellent cycling performance at a higher cutoff operating voltage (up to 4.8 V) could be attributed to the well-retention of the microstructure of synthesized Li(Ni_(1/3)Co_(1/3)Mn_(1/3))O_2 powders. Comparatively, LiCoO_2 suffered structure degradation at a higher cutoff voltage. 19Recruitment of older adults into randomized controlled trials:Issues and lessons learned from two community-based exercise interventions in Shanghai显示文摘Background: With the increasing need for high-quality exercise interventions in China, relatively little is known about issues and challenges related to recruitment of older Chinese adults into exercise-based disease prevention interventions. This study aims to describe the recruitment process and outcomes of 2 exercise interventions conducted in Shanghai, China.Methods: Recruitment information was ascertained from 2 community-based randomized controlled trials for 2 exercise interventions, the first designed to improve health outcomes for older women with knee osteoarthritis and the second to study changes in cognitive function in adults with mild cognitive impairment. Results were summarized in terms of recruitment sources, number screened, screening-to-enrollment ratios, and costs.Results: Recruitment was primarily achieved through working with local residential divisions(i.e., neighborhood associations and residential committees). Both studies achieved their planned target number of older adults(45 and 46, respectively) within a 1-year time frame, with a screening-to-randomized ratio of 5:1 and demonstrated excellent retention rates(range 87%–93%) at 6 months. The recruitment cost for the 2studies averaged RMB 189(about USD 30) per initial recruit and RMB 738(about USD 119) per participant randomized. Some major issues encountered during the recruitment process included(1) the use of community neighborhoods to support the conduct of the projects,(2) access to participants, and(3) feasibility.Conclusion: Analysis of the 2 randomized controlled trials has provided valuable insights into the recruitment process and identified resources that can help better planning and recruitment for future interventions.
