1Petroleum hydrocarbons and their effects on fishery species in the Bohai Sea, North China显示文摘Systematic studies on the changes in concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons (PHs) and their effects on fishery species in the Bohai Sea during 1974-2004 are presented. Changes in PHs concentrations were closely related to Yellow River runoff. Concentrations of PHs accumulated in fish and shrimp increased by about 0.712 mg/kg dry weight when trophic level of fish and shrimps increased by 1. Attention should also be paid to the high PHs concentrations in mollusks along the coastal waters of the Bohai Sea. Average concentration of PHs in the adjacent coastal waters of Tianjin City during 1996-2005 decreased the population growth rates of fish, crustaceans and mollusks in the Bohai Sea by 2.58%, 6.59% and 2.33%, respectively. 2Environmental significance of biogenic elements in surface sediments of the Changjiang Estuary and its adjacent areas显示文摘Biogenic elements and six phosphorus(P) fractions in surface sediments from the Changjiang Estuary and adjacent waters were determined to investigate the governing factors of these elements, and further to discuss their potential uses as paleo-environment proxies and risks of P release from sediment. Total organic carbon(TOC) and leachable organic P(Lea-OP) showed high concentrations in the estuary, Zhejiang coast and ofshore upwelling area. They came from both the Changjiang River and marine biological input.Biogenic silicon(BSi) exhibited a high concentration band between 123 and 124°E. BSi mainly came from diatom production and its concentration in the inshore area was diluted by river sediment. Total nitrogen(TN) was primarily of marine biogenic origin. Seaward decreasing trends of Fe-bound P and Al-bound P revealed their terrestrial origins. Influenced by old Huanghe sediment delivered by the Jiangsu coastal current, the maximum concentration of detrital P(Det-P) was observed in the area north of the estuary. Similar high concentrations of carbonate fluorapatite(CFA-P) and CaCO3 in the southern study area suggested marine calcium-organism sources of CFA-P. TOC, TN and non-apatite P were enriched in fine sediment, and Det-P partially exhibited coarse-grain enrichment, but BSi had no correlation with sediment grain size. Diferent sources and governing factors made biogenic elements and P species have distinct potential uses in indicating environmental conditions. Transferable P accounted for 14%-46% of total P. 5Temperature-sensitive polymeric nanogels encapsulating withβ-cyclodextrin and ICG complex for high-resolution deep-tissue ultrasound-switchable fluorescence imaging显示文摘One of the thorny problems currently impeding the applications of the fluorescence imaging technique is the poor spatial resolution in deep tissue.Ultrasound-switchable fluorescence(USF)imaging is a novel imaging tool that has recently been explored to possibly surmount the above-mentioned bottleneck.Herein,αβ-cyclodextrin/indocyanine green(ICG)complex-encapsulated poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)(PNIPAM)nanogel was synthesized and studied for ex vivo/in vivo deep tissue/high-resolution near infrared USF(NIR-USF)imaging.To be specific,our results revealed that the average diameter of the as-prepared nanogels was significantly decreased to-32 nm from-335 nm compared to the reported ICG-PNIPAM nanoparticles.Additionally,the excitation/emission characteristics of the ICG itself in present nanogels were almost completely retained,and the resultant nanogel exhibited high physiological stability and positive biocompatibility.In particular,the signal-to-noise ratio of the USF image for the PNIPAM/P-cyclodextrin/ICG nanogel(33.01±2.42 dB)was prominently higher than that of the ICG-PNIPAM nanoparticles(18.73±0.33 dB)in 1.5-cm-thick chicken breast tissues.The NIR-USF imaging in 3.5-cm-thick chicken breast tissues was achieved using this new probe.The e x v iv o NIR-USF imaging of the mouse liver was also successfully obtained.Animal experiments showed that the present nanogels were able to be effectively accumulated into U87 tumor-bearing mice via enhanced permeability and retention effects,and the high-resolution NIR-USF imaging of in v ivo tumor was efficiently acquired.The metabolism and in vivo biodistribution of the nanogels were evaluated.Overall,the results suggest that the current nanogel is a highly promising NIR-USF probe for deep tissue and high-resolution USF imaging.Ruilin Liu Tingfeng Yao Yang Liu Shuai Yu Liqin Ren Yi Hong Kytai T.Nguyen Baohong Yuan 2020Nano Research2020,13,4:1

8Truncated glycoprotein E of varicella-zoster virus is an ideal immunogen for Escherichia coli-based vaccine design显示文摘Varicella-zoster virus(VZV)is a highly infectious agent responsible for both varicella and herpes zoster disease.Despite high efficacy,there remain safety and accessibility concerns with the licensed vaccines.Here,we sought to produce a VZV g E immunogen using an E.coli expression system.We found that the soluble expression and yield of g E protein could be enhanced via C-terminal truncations to the protein,thereby facilitating a robust and scalable purification process for the purpose of vaccine manufacturing.The lead truncated g E(aa 31–358),hereafter referred to as tg E,was a homogenous monomer in solution and showed excellent antigenicity.Finally,we assessed and compared the immunogenicity of tg E with commercial v Oka LAV and Shingrix vaccine.We found that aluminum-adjuvanted tg E was immunogenic as compared with v Oka LAV.When adjuvanted with AS01B,a two-dose immunization of tg E showed comparable or better potency in antibody responses and cell-mediated immunity with those of the Shingrix vaccine at the same dosage,especially in terms of the proportion of IFN-γ-expressing CD4^(+)T cells.In conclusion,this method of E.coli-mediate tg E expression offers a cost-effective and scalable strategy to generate an ideal VZV g E immunogen for the development of both varicella and zoster vaccines.Tingting Chen Jie Sun Sibo Zhang Tingting Li Liqin Liu Wenhui Xue Lizhi Zhou Siting Liang Zhili Yu Qingbing Zheng Hai Yu Tong Cheng Jun Zhang Ying Gu Shaowei Li Ningshao Xia 2023Science China(Life Sciences)2023,66,4:1

18Bone morphogenetic protein 4 (BMP4) promotes hepatic glycogen accumulation and reduces glucose level in hepatocytes through mTORC2 signaling pathway显示文摘Liver is an important organ for regulating glucose and lipid metabolism.Recent studies have shown that bone morphogenetic proteins(BMPs)may play important roles in regu-lating glucose and lipid metabolism.Inour previous studies,we demonstrated that BMP4 signif-icantly inhibits hepatic steatosis and lowers serum triglycerides,playing a protective role against the progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD).However,the direct impact of BMP4 on hepatic glucose metabolism is poorly understood.Here,we investigated the regulatory roles of BMP4 in hepatic glucose metabolism.Through a comprehensive analysis of the 14 types of BMPs,we found that BMP4 was one of the most potent BMPs in promoting hepatic glycogen accumulation,reducing the level of glucose in hepatocytes and effecting the expression of genes related to glucose metabolism.Mechanistically,we demonstrated that BMP4 reduced the hepatic glucose lewels through the activation of mTORC2 signaling pathway in vitro and in wivo.Collectively,our findings strongly suggest that BMP4 may play an essential role in regulating hepatic glucose metabolism.This knowledge should aid us to understand the molecular pathogenesis of NAFLD,and may lead to the development of novel therapeutics by exploiting the inhibitory effects of BMPs on hepatic glucose and lipid metabolism.Liqin An Qiong Shi Ying Zhu Hao Wang Qi Peng Jinghong Wu Yu Cheng Wei Zhang Yanyu Yi Zihao Bao Hui Zhang Yetao Luo Jiaming Fan 2021Genes & Diseases2021,8,4:1
19Sustainable all-weather CO 2 utilization by mimicking natural photosynthesis in a single material显示文摘Solar-driven CO_(2)conversion into hydrocarbon fuels is a sustainable approach to synchronously alleviating the energy crisis and achieving net CO_(2)emissions.However,the dependence of the conversion process on solar illumination hinders its practical application due to the intermittent availability of sunlight at night and on cloudy or rainy days.Here,we report a model material of Pt-loaded hexagonal tungsten trioxide(Pt/h-WO3)for decoupling light and dark reaction processes,demonstrating the sustainable CO_(2)conversion under dark conditions for the first time.In such a material system,hydrogen atoms can be produced by photocatalytic water splitting under solar illumination,stored together with electrons in the h-WO_(3)through the transition of W^(6+)to W^(5+)and spontaneously released to trigger catalytic CO_(2)reduction under dark conditions.Furthermore,we demonstrate using natural light that CH4 production can persist at night and on rainy days,proving the accomplishment of all-weather CO_(2)conversion via a sustainable way.Xianjin Shi Yu Huang Ran Long Zhenyu Wang Liqin Wang Junji Cao Gangqiang Zhu Yujie Xiong 2024National Science Review2024,11,2:0
